Mint App - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Mint just updated their app for Honeycomb Tablets ( https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mint ) today.
I installed it. However, I'm not seeing access to any of the new features. Are Flyer / Evo View owners locked out of the tablet features for some reason?

I agree, just installed it after hearing that it had been updated for tablets...It looks the same as on my phone, doesn't even display in landscape... I haven't updated the app on my phone in months and it is version 1.17.361. The newly installed app on my view is the same. I don't remember where I read that the mint app had been updated for tablets, but I bet it was based on a press release that was premature.

I just researched a bit more and there do seem to be examples and screen shots of new features/reviews so an updated app does exist. I just sent the developer an email explaining the issue. I'll post any response I get (beyond the automated response which I already received)

Thank you. It is good to know it's not just me. Thanks for contacting support.

Not surprisingly Mint support wasn't very helpful (though they did reply within 24 hours for what that's worth) Below is the full response I received:
"Dear Andrew,
Thank you for contacting Mint.com.
For Android, there are two separate apps for phone and tablet. Our phone app supports OS Gingerbread and up and the tablet app supports OS Honeycomb and up.
Please confirm your OS version. Have a good day!
Thank you,
Anne B.
Mint.com"
*sigh*

What the heck? That makes no sense.
When I search for Mint in the Android Market, even on the website (not on my Flyer), only one app shows up...?

Only version I see is the phone version also, on my View.

Got another reply from Mint support...
So here is the second reply (after I advised that support reread my email in my reply to them). I copied my original email below for reference. Support is still not understanding the real issue, which has to be related to aspect ratio and or pixel density (not screen size). but regardless its a no go. I am tempted to try getting the apk and side-loading just to see how it looks.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for getting back. I apologize for my previous response.
Unfortunately, your device specification is not compatible on the Table app. The app requires an 8.9" or larger screen. The Mint Android tablet app is compatible with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and an XL Screen Size 8.9” or larger.

I have a recently acquired HTC View 7" tablet that has been updated to ANdroid v 3.2.1. I just installed the Mint app (which I have been using on my android phone for a long time) The android market recognizes my view as a honeycomb device, but I the version of the app that installed is the same as is running on my phone (1.17.361). Is there a newer version that should have installed with the tablet optimized layout? Any idea why I do not see the new features? I know of at least on other user with the same issue (posted on XDA flyer/view forums) Let me know if I can provide any additional info that might assist your addressing this issue. Thank you

The 8.9" screen thing is BS.
How would one go about getting the tablet app and side-loading it?

Find someone with a rooted 8.9"+ tablet and pull the apk file for it.

Could be that they coded it for 1280x800 tablets...

Anyone have access to someone that owns a rooted 8.9" tablet?

FYI, I am having the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus:
ANY Android app that have a tablet-optimized version in a single app (no 2 separate versions) will not show the tablet version when installed in my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus.
I tested this with most popular tablet-optimized apps, such as Mint and TripAdvisor and same problem. HOWEVER, in my friend's ASUS Transformer tablet, it work just fine.
I believe this have issue with the screen resolution, since my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus is 1024 x 600, and these apps does not recognise these resolutions and hence, just defaulted to the "phone" mode, judging by the response from Mint.
This is just a piss-poor planning on the Android OS design...

Ah, interesting. That's lame. Is there no way to force it? Perhaps with a pixel density changer?

It would be nice if I could get any version of Mint to work. It won't let me log into any of my accounts. Pageonce logs in with no problem.

I just updated the Mint app and finally it shows up properly as a "Tablet" app.
I think we are lucky that Mint was created by Intuit, a large company, so they probably notice the app is not working properly in non 10.1" tablet. I think this is more of the Android fragmentation issue and how apps are developed in Android.
I just started developing Android app and I have a hard time making sure the graphics in my app is showing up properly in different resolutions and dpi.

[Q] Touchdown on Flyer

Does anyone user Touchdown? I use it on my Droid2 and was trying to find the tablet version in the market on the Flyer, and it doesn't show up; Only the key shows up. touchdown support said they have had a tablet specific version for a while now. I'm awaiting another reply from them, but I was wondering if anyone else has had success finding it.
You will see tablet apps in the market once the Flyer is updated to Honeycomb
Just out of curiosity, did anyone hear about when the update has been planned for?

This isn't authoritative, but I'd bet after the HTC 10" tablet is released with honeycomb.
The tablet version is honeycomb exclusive.
But the full key works on both versions and amazon has it on sale for 8 bucks.

Curious why you still need Touchdown? It was necessary for Exchange integration in the past. But Froyo supports natively.
Please excuse my ignorance.
I'm considering using touchdown because I don't have to type a pin into my device every time I unlock the device. Only when I go into Touchdown. My work email requires a pin. This also prevents failed attempts at logging in from wiping my entire phone.
Full html in touchdown is nice too

Just like the Galaxy Tab, The NORMAL version of touchdown should see that this device as higher resolution and will automatically show you tablet mode viewing.
That's how it was on the Galaxy Tab. try it out.

Try this:
Downloading TouchDown™ from NitroDesk
Follow these steps only if you are unable to install TouchDown™ using the steps above
Open the web browser on the device If your device is running Android versions 3.0 or greater (e.g: Motorola Xoom, LG G-Slate), type in the link http://nitrodesk.com/tddownloads/nitroid-honey.apk If your device is running Android versions 2.0 or greater (e.g: Incredible, Nexus, Motorola Droid etc), type in the link http://nitrodesk.com/tddownloads/nitroid-droid.apk If your device is running Android versions 1.6 or 1.5 (all other devices), type in the link http://tinyurl.com/tchdwn The download will start once you press Go. Wait for the download to finish. Tap on the file which was just downloaded. Follow the prompts to install TouchDown™. You may have to enable the "Unknown sources" option in Android settings to complete the installation. Now you have TouchDown installed on the device. You can start TouchDown by pressing the TouchDown icon in the Android programs list Configure the application to connect to your server by following the instructions here (PDF)

Does your viewsonic g-tablet NO LONGER appear in the Android Market?

I noticed several weeks back that my tab was not listed as a device in the the market when I visited the web-market. I could see my phone, but not my tab. It had been there. What happened to it? I began to think I broke *that* functionality of it somehow. I mean, I screw with my tab constantly.
I conveniently noticed there was an update for VeganGinger (7.10) so I went for it. Nope. No market device listing. (the 7.10 update broke it, I thot) Okay. Let's try Flashback. Nope. And, it's a *known issue.* Damn.
This morning, I emailed Google: For the last few weeks, I have been unable to "see" my device on the market. My phone is listed as my device, but my tablet has vanished from the list. I am still able to download apps from the tablet. It's just that my viewsonic g-tablet does not appear in the list of my devices. It's inconvenient when I want to install a market app to my tablet from the "web" android market.
A very nice person replied: Hi there, Thanks for contacting us today. According to our records, the device that you are using is not supported for use with Android Market at this time.
The Android operating system is open source, which means that any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Android Market is an application created by Google that is only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices.
For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit: http://source.android.com/compatibility/index.html
If you have any further questions, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly. I’ve provided a link below for your convenience: http://www.viewsonic.com/support/
I was unsatisfied, and a bit annoyed, so I replied and asked: As I mentioned, my device *had previously* shown up in the market.
Does the removal of my device mean that google has changed their device compatibility specs? Or that they are enforcing those specifications more stringently?
Additionally, is there anything I can do to allow my device to show up again? Or am I caught between google and a manufacturer that has stopped supporting their device?
Their answer: Your device wasn't ever a supported device unfortunately.
It does sometimes take a while for Market to recognize that the device is unsupported but once it does it isn't reversible. Viewsonic should have suggestions for alternative app sources. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.
WHAT? Not reversible? Oh dear.
One more question: Will the limited Market functionality I currently have on my viewsonic device continue, or will it "go away" in the future?
The google answer: At this time, I can't say for sure whether you'll retain the access you currently have or not. I'm not aware of any planned updates to Market that would affect this but that doesn't mean they aren't in the works behind the scenes.
So, my fellow Viewsonic aficionados, there is the answer to the "howcum I don't see my g-tab anymore...?" queries. I just thought you'd all want to know.
Dan
BTW, If this info helped you, don't hesitate to hit the "thanks" button, k?

Yep. Your choices are to use Amazon (which works fine) and keep using the Market app (updated one, if needed, for HC roms) to download updates & freebies from the Market directly on the device.
And continue to scratch your head at the mess that is Android.
I'm glad i sold my Gtablet and got the HTC Flyer when Best Buy had them on sale.

So, is anyone aware of a way to clear/change identifying info from the g-tab to restore this ability, or do we collectively think it's a lost cause?

Not having it show up in the web store is not a big issue for me. Just download from the market on the tablet?

If we can figure out which part needs to be changed to transmit a different ID to the market, then I imagine we as GTablet users should be golden. I can still buy and install on the device, just not from Web Market. Oh well....I still have 2.3.7 and very few other users do...yay Cyanogenmod!
Same problem with 10s
I have the same problem with a Viewsonic 10s. Mine has a stock rom and installing the market apk didn't work. Will flashing a new ROM fix things? Or having Root access allow installing apps from the SD?
I still have a few says to return the tablet so if things don't resolve themselves soon, back it goes.

No. I have flashed three times since this discovery, to no avail.
You can *still* browse and install the apps from Android Market to your device.
*The only functionality this affects is the ability to install an app to your tab when you're browsing the Market from your PC.*
Dan
Doesn't the 'market fix' that changes the device ID to allow more apps to show up, already accomplish this?

Any way to install tablet versions of apps?

Ok so I have CM7.1 Alpha3.5 on the TouchPad. It's decent. However, it's just a blown up phone ROM with some tweaks to make it usable on a screen this large. This means that there's no panes in Gmail or other tablet optimized apps.
Now, I don't mean to diminish the work that has been done to things like the overlay for the buttons - that is really a slick implementation - but is there any way/place to get the tablet optimized versions of apps onto this thing instead of the phone versions of the apps? Or should I just shut up and wait for ICS to come out soon?
EDIT: Sigh. Mod, you can move this to the General section. My bad.
I was thinking of installing this, but if what you say is the case (all the apps will be like they are on the phone) then I guess I will wait til an ICS port comes out. I just REALLY want the Android apps on the Touchpad.
Install it! You have nothing to lose. You can boot into webOS OR CM7 via the startup menu.
Don't let one guy's complaints stop you.
Oh by all means install it. Its crazy fast and in a worst case scenario you lay an easier foundation for installing ICS when it is available. You don't have to use Android - this will get you dual booting.
If your talking about google music or netflix tablet versions, if you edit the device id to something like GT-i900 it will load up tablet versions.
At least this has been my experience...

Fyi there is a huge difference between "tablet version(hc)" and " tablet optimized " tablet optimized works on larger screen gb units( like our tp)
tablet version is intended for honeycomb devices with the appropriate framework and can only be loaded on honeycomb os.
The reason why ppl are needing to edit the build.prop is for the app/market to recognize our device as a compatible device/hardware on a "tablet optimized " app.
No matter what u do a "tablet version" application will not work on a "phone version " os.
If it were that easy to install a hc application, the current fragmentation would not exist within androids, and ics would not be that important coming out.
Just a food for thought rant since I'm seeing so many God damn threads about this matter lol..
Thanks for listening

Honeycomb source was never released so we are stuck with a phone optimized version of Android until we can get an CM9/ICS ROM. There are new APIs etc in Honeycomb that won't allow those apps to run in Gingerbread even if you somehow force installed them. You can find some apps that will display a tablet UI. Here is a few of ones I use that run a tablet UI:
Netflix (really nice tablet UI update that is working great)
OfficeSuite Pro 5
Maxthon Browser for 10" Tablet
Firefox (tablet UI can be enabled in about:config)
What I look for is apps that have tablet screenshots or have been updated for ICS yet the same version also runs on GB.

It's incredibly amazing, though also paaaaaaainfully slow... not the connection, just the interface. I'd mainly need this for Excel (haven't found an Android Office suite that does XY scatter plots!) but the sluggishness would need some getting used to on my otherwise very fluid device.
The interface is pretty annoying to get around in, since it's so cramped. Luckily my dock's touch pad can help with that. What's weird thuough, is that it doesn't recognize some physical keyboard-specific inputs, like arrow keys. You'd think they might have tested for that?

There was an update for Cloudon posted in July, does anyone have this version? Can't get it from the play store on my phone or my tablet (HP Touchpad). I need it for school, my laptop is in for warranty and I don't have a lot of spare time to sit in a lab, I have to work while taking a bus.
Edit: Version 2.0.7.33 is the latest.
Thanks.

I have this one on my mediafire for a while, not sure if it's a different version though.

Could someone with a tablet upload the latest .apk
I got latest phone version through my old HTC Desire(Bravo) but when I install it on my Padfone 2(Which does not have official support for this app yet) it only enables the phone version of this app.
While the version posted up here enable the tablet mode but because they are to old it won't let me login. Giving me an error that these version of the app are to old and no longer supported.
If anyone is interested the phone .apk I can upload it.
Sent from my PadFone 2 using xda developers app
