How do you update a rooted evo 3d with hboot 1.5 i am currently on 2.08.651.3 and want to update to 2.17.651.5 so i could flash MeanROM v0.6 or viperrom
you need to learn to search...
couple ways
1) factory OEM lock the phone, unroot, take the ota, unlock again, then re-root.
2) easier way....flash the stock HTC recovery, then take the ota, then flash custom recovery back on. Or at least that is how I understand it, though I haven't done it myself.
Good luck.

so i have to go back to stock and update
Why dont you just flash the new rom? If it's based off of the latest update, then that's what you will get on your phone. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think you need to unroot, flash back to stock rom, Update to 2.17 and then root again just to install a rom based on 2.17.
the only reason to do it would be for the radio. and for me at least it was all buggy using the new rom with old radio.
Ive read on some post that people update and they bricked there phones

Ok, I'm really curious about this. I want to quickly know what ROMs can be flashed to a phone that is HTC Dev Unlocked and S-On.
Currently running MeanROM 1.91 (and HTC Dev Unlocked & S-On), but I would really like to run Cyanogenmod on it.
I understand you can flash the radio in an S-On phone, but it has to be done in recovery, vs doing it in the bootloader with an S-Off phone.

You can flash whatever ROM you want, as long as you have a custom recovery.
And you can flash radios through recovery as long as your HBOOT isn't the one from the latest OTA (1.15). In that case, you can't.
You can. just backup, and do a full wipe, and and flash.

I think the only thing you gain with s-off is the ability to update your firmware.

I got my phone a week ago (actually on the 13th), and as soon as I got it, I let it do the updated to 1.22.
I have TWRP 2.2 as my recovery. HBoot is 1.15. In that case, is there any ability at all to update the radio to something newer?

I think he meant you can only update the radio firmware with S-Off.

Well, currently there isn't a newer radio, but if there was, you'd have to relock and take whatever the new OTA would be to upgrade your firmware (including radio).
Radios cannot be flashed through recovery with the new 1.15 HBOOT, nor can splash screens or kernels.

So, to relock, I would have to follow one of the threads on unrooting and relocking the phone? You can't do that by just re-flashing the stock ROM (its how it worked with my LG Optimus S and Motorola Photon 4G)?
The point is, I want to run CM9 or 10 once it becomes stable for this phone (when camera, MMS, and everything else works)

Actually, you don't have to re-lock to take an OTA, if you're on stock. But being as though you want to run a custom ROM, you'd have to nandroid backup your current setup. Relock the bootloader ("fastboot oem lock"), and then flash the latest RUU, at which point you'd be updated to the latest firmware.

I'm sure there will be.
So, the process would be:
1.) relock the bootloader
2.) flash the latest RUU
3.) unlock the bootloader, and re-root
4.) flash to the latest CM9/10 port (and install the latest gapps)
I downloaded the over the air update for htc evo 3d and when I try to install it my phone restarts and the htc screen shows then it restarts again like normal. Since things I should mention is that I unlocked the bootloader and had the phone flashed to Verizon. I hope that this didn't have any effect on the update process. Does anybody know a way to apply the update using the computer? I copied the update data to my computer( it's in rar file format).

You cannot upgrade to an official ota with an unlocked bootloader.
Aw Damn! That sucks. Well now I see on room manner a android 4.0 Rom and I just downloaded it. I want to back up my current sense 3.0 and install Tom but can't find a way to install it. Know a way to get recovery my friend?

Not really sure what you just said, but if you want to install a rom, there are TONS of guides on here. Boot into recovery, make nandroid backup, wipe everything, and install (flash) zip.

Well if you are rooted you already should have a custom recovery. If not, you can find the thread for the recovery you want and follow the instructions.
Sorry, dumb auto correction. I will see if I can find another way to install recovery on my phone then. Thanks.

I can't update my Sprint CDMA Evo 3d. I have flashed it to another carrier but i don't thnk ths is the problem. After i go to settings and check HTC Updates it says i have an update available to ICS. The phone downloads(305 MB) update and after that it reboots to Recovery like it was installing the Update but then restart to RO normally and just make a Factory Reset.
I was HTC Dev Unlocked Hboot 1.50 S-ON, so i relocked the Bootloader to run the Full 2.17.651.5 RUU so i'm 100% stock. Any way to install it?

Do you have a custom recovery installed?
I heard you need to be running the stock recovery to be able to use an OTA update.
hope this helps
Nope. The RUU reverts the phone to 100% Stock(Recovery, Radio, FW, etc).
So I was reading that you have to unroot, update, and then reroot via HTC's method if you are on hboot 1.50 and old firmware.
How would you go about doing this?
Are you s-on or s-off? It makes a big difference as to what you do.

No, you don't have to do all of that. If you want to run the stock kernel from the latest OTA, you have to update your hboot. But you do not need to unroot or anything to do that, just flash the firmware update with the new hboot. Or, you can run any ics rom, just with the 2.17 leak kernel without updating your hboot.

You don't need to do all that. Just simply update over the air if you want the official update. If you want to install a custom rom, then simply root your phone(HTCdev), install recovery(4ext) and flash a custom rom. Always remember to do a nandroid backup before flashing.
Cheers.

So Sprint finally said there was a system update to ICS so I downloaded it and installed and it instantly popped up an error, didn't have any words it was just a picture of the guy with the warning sign. So I waited and it never did anything. I figured I would clear everything/factory reset and see if that fixed it. Nope. Even moreso, it wouldn't let me install any other ROM either. I did enough superwipes and stuff that I finally got the stock ROM to work so I'm back where I started.. One clue might be that I cannot seem to clear the sd-ext, it gives me an error there.
With it back in working order, if I don't clear anything and just try and install ICS from bootloader, what I show in the pic is what happens.
The last part about the E:error in sd card is what I was getting when all the other ROM's were screwing up.
Maybe bad sdcard

I don't see how when it works fine now. It's like something is messing with it but I have no clue what.
Re-lock your device and apply the update again.
Just do a fastboot command "fastboot oem lock".
Ugh, you cannot take an OTA if you are rooted with a custom recovery.

wow! are you F***ing serious? OH I'M ROOTING AND I'M GOING TO TAKE AN OTA? SERIOUSLY!? lmao! Other than that, I'm not going to say anything more. lol. I WISH I WAS ROOTED AND HAD 1.4 INSTALLED WHEN I GOT MY PHONE! but no! it came with 1.5 and it took a year to figure out how to downgrade. lol. oh well. now they've figured everything out. can s-off with being on 1.5. love everyone on here. Anyway, DO NOT TAKE AN OTA!
I am not the greatest with these things. You are saying I need to unroot my phone for this to work? And I need to somehow get rid of the revolutionary recovery thing? I don't know what OTA means but I can see it's part of the file name. Is there a non-OTA version of it that I can use? For some reason a lot of ROM's don't work. I have hboot 1.5 with s-on and cynogenmod and a lot of ICS ROM's just hang on the HTC screen.

You don't need to unroot, but you need to lock your bootloader and get the stock recovery back to take the OTA. The easiest way to upgrade to ICS without doing all that is to flash the new firmware, then flash a stock rooted rom if you want to stay on the stock rom.

Upgrade firmware through bootloader, then flash a stock rooted rom or a custom rom based on ICS. If you want to use the new kernel, you will have to upgrade hboot as well, or you can keep your current hboot and use the VM leak kernel.
For some reason a lot of ROM's don't work.

Could be a number of reasons, you need the new firmware to run an ICS rom, and you need the new hboot if those roms use the new kernel.

You can't flash kernels with s-on, so you will need to get s-off before you want to use an ICS rom.
Started having some problems on meanrom 4.2 and 4.3 where I wasn't recieving text messages so I figured I may as well update my radio firmware and pri. Currently on baseband1.05.11.0606 PRI 2.45_003 hd boot 1.15 s on, of course
I know installing the update will update my boot to 1.19 with less chance of s off but thats why I have flash image gui right, lol.
What process do I have to go through to install the update?
I'm downloading this ruu:
http://beta.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390062577138008377
I'm currently on the aroma rom is all I have to do is relock the boot loader, install the ruu, unlock the bootloader again install twrp and I will be ready to go?
(EDIT)
or can I download the updates and flash thru flash img gui somehow as if I were s off?? Doubt it but may as well ask
I just want the new radio firmware to help with what I can hope is better reception 3g speeds as mine suck and I'm 3.9 miles away from a tower so yea...on aroma its asking me to download a sprint updat that 171mb can I just do that and install or will I mess up my phone?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
You need a stock rom and recovery before you can take an ota
That's what I was thinking so I have to use the ruu, right? Just have to lock the bootloader I thought I read that it was possible to do on cleanrom or something like that tho...wrong?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
You don't need to use ruu, flash stock rom, stock recovery, relock and accept ota
Ok just got to find me a stock Rom as I have lost my stock nandroid and ill complete this. Thanks

Not sure about cleamrom, ota can fail if there's been too much modification
Maybe it was fresh EVO I swear I saw something about it and am searching for it currently....if it fails I'm just back to square one...aka where I am now right?
