I used to use SwiFTP to transfer files thru WIFI,
however, it is not that convenient to update newer files.
Is there anyway to Sync files without USB cable?
oh I think I posted in wrong section..
I'm also interested in this question. Of course, there is dropbox...but that has a 2 gb limit. When you're on Linux or Mac, the easy thing to do is just create a little script that uses rsync to sync the two desired folders (no doubt dropbox uses the same mechanics).
What's the easiest way to keep two folders (one on your android, the other on a PC) synced?

To access your sdcard from windows explorer ... wireless.
Go here to get the FTP server for your phone https://market.android.com/details?...W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5yYXBmb3guZnRwc3ZyIl0./
it’s free and very easy to set up.
I then went to windows explorer and mapped my sdcard as a network drive.
if you are on a network the address will be whatever was assigned.
You can now access your Flyer's sdcard from windows explorer without plugging into usb.
Just use explorer to move files to and from your Flyer.
I then used MS Sync toy on my laptop http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=15155 Also free to sync music and photos.
Just start the ftp server on the Flyer and click sync on my laptop and everything syncs up
another one if you are rooted...
I found Root FTP Server here https://market.android.com/developer?pub=waterdev
Using this you will have full root access and can do anything root explorer can do
Moving files in and out, set permissions ... Very handy for me
Edit ... More info on Root FTP Server here ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945188
And yet another one:
Go to the market and get kWS web server https://market.android.com/details?...yZy54ZXVzdGVjaG5vbG9naWVzLmFuZHJvaWQua3dzIl0. ... rch_result it’s free.
Next go to http://www.no-ip.com/ and set up a free account. After you have chosen your account name (like http://xxxx.redirectme.net) go to account settings and check port80 redirect.
Now start kWS on your phone go to settings and set your dns server to no-ip.com and your username/password.
You can now access your sc card from any computer with an internet connection by going to your chosen web address (http:// xxxx.redirectme.net)
I use this to share cad files with my employees when I’m away from my office

I’m not sure about SwiFTP but with FTP Serve and Root FTP you just need to start one of them and you will see the IP address and user name for your Flyer.
Then on your windows computer right click computer icon on your desktop and select map network drive.
Then use the address from ftp serve … something like … ftp://:2121/
You will then have a new drive in Mycomputer and windows explorer.
You can right click on that drive and place a shortcut on your desktop.
From then on just start FTP Serve then Dbl click that shortcut
I have 4 shortcuts … Phone sdcard, Phone Root, Flyer sdcard and Flyer root
Rarely do I need to use a USB cable with my devices

Search for Cloudless on Market. It provides automated upload / download from a samba share.
Set itself up as a sync service, upload / download / both way to a windows network share.
The interface is not so nice but the function is good. After the setup, all my pictures are uploaded into my network share without me lifting a finger.

This is the popup from creating folder pair in MS sync
You’re using windows 64 bit you should use Sync Center

That's because it set itself as a sync service.. each synchronize setting is consider as an account. Hence all the account related permission.

Hi
If anybody is interested in having RIM Blackberry + loads more functionality on an XDA, please take a look at - [http://www.a2000d.com/Duality_Always-On_Mail.htm] This is a server based product & suitable for 10 or more users.
Cheers
John
Wow, that's a lot of complexity to do something that's essentially already built into the device.
Hi, I think you may have missed the point somewhere along the line, sorry if I didn't make things clearer. This is full GPRS PUSH email which the XDA, in it's native form, isn't capable of.
Hope this helps.
No real difference. It keeps the GPRS connection open, just like keeping it open and having your mail software check for mail every five minutes. No effective difference, unless your e-mail is so important that you can't wait five minutes. But then you could set it to check once a minute.
It's not a true push in the sense that the server can't initiate the inbound connection.
Something pretty similar and cheap could be set up quite easily. The basic problem is that the XDA can't hold a GPRS connection permanently. You don't see the advertising bunf about 'always on connections' any more.
You could get blackberry-like functionality with two simple apps: one that runs on your exchange server that gets an SMS gateway to send you an SMS in a particular format when you have mail that hasn't been retrieved for a few minutes. And one that sits on the XDA checking incoming SMSs and when the 'check your mail' message comes in, starts attempting to start a GPRS connection and poll your server.
I agree with Andy. In fact I just noticed that T-Mobile are offering this very capability to all e-mail subscribers right now. The PPC client has to have an additional option ('my alerts') that has the specific functionality aka: read the 'hidden' SMS message and go and retrieve the mail.
Only problem seems to be that this additional option in the WM2003 e-mail client is not available as a separate download, but built into the ROM image. Seems that the only device that has it built in right now is the new HP PPC phone. I enabled this service on my t-mobile account and I receive the special SMS message fine, but my XDA e-mail client is not smart enough to recognize the special SMS message and then go an pull the mail down. I still have to do it manually. Still we are getting close to 'psydo push' e-mail I guess!! Does anyone know of an e-mail client for the PPC that has this functionality built in to it???
Look ay iAnywhere's Pylon Anywhere solution, it is better.
Only US $634 for five users (includes server back-end and client software), runs of Exchange or Notes. As for clients, it provides support for a broad range of handheld devices, including Palm OS, Microsoft Pocket PC and Smartphone, Symbian OS, SyncML, and WAP-based devices. Even supports RIM devices.
Communication is fully encrypted!

It provides three connection types; ReadySync, network push and SMS push - of course you can manually sync as well.
Most of the providers (mobile) use some sort of SMS push to triggger your device to sync to get new mail. This solution supports that, if you want it. The network push is real-time, if something triggers the monitoring server it immediately has your device sync that information type. Pylon Anywhere can monitor and sync Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Calendar, Contacts, Notes. From both the client and server sides.
There are a ton more features that are incredible, like killing (hard reset) a device remotely if stolen/lost. I will have a review up by the end of the week, will post here (if I can).
Thanks Nighthawk. Looks pretty interesting and quite a bit cheaper than the Intellisync product I have been looking at.
I have downloaded the documentation and am thinking about doing the 30 day trial, but I am a bit confused about the various hardware requirements. All I use right now is a WIN XP laptop with MS Outlook for mail. My mail is POP 3 from BellSouth and I have a DSL connection to the Bellsouth account via a dynamic IP address.
It looks like that to install the PylonAnywhere server, I am going to need MS Exchange, a static IP address and my own domain..... Am I reading that right, or can I simpy install the PylonAnywhere server software on my laptop and point it to the BellSouth POP 3 account for my mail? Any idea?
Many Thanks!
CB
Yep, this is a server based system. Connects to your exisiting Exchange or Notes mail server(s).
You sound like your just connecting to your own desktop, hmmm.
You might want to look at Smartner's Duality Professional edition or Internet Edition.
Go here: http://www.smartner.com/products/professional.html
These two are based on a single user concept vs. enterprise.
Hope that helps, let me know how things go.
Yes, I came across the Smartner product in my sesrches too. Does not appear to be available in the USA form some reason... In fact the licencing agreement actually precludes you from installing it if you live in the USA. Must have some kind of licencing problems I guess.
...?
I saw that while looking at their web site, kinda concerned me :?:
One could only speculate as to why, since not listed anywhere.
I think you can still DL the trial vesion off their site thoguh. If not, check out Handango, they have two versions listed (one a monthly contract).
Hi Nighthawk.
Yes, I did manage to download the trial, but it seems to be the 'enterprise' version, with functionality and architecture very similar to Intellisync and Pylon. I did not see a trial for any of the basic connectivity versions... I think I will call Smartner on Monday and see what the deal is with the licensing. I suspect it may be some kind of patent issue with one of the other providers... I'll let you know what I find out.
To download the Enterprise trial I had to request it via an e-mail, awaiting responce.
The Handango version is the Professional version, you can DL a trial version (doing it now).
Definately let me know what you find out from them, thanks.
Hey..
Smartner Duality is quite a good package for RIM like functionality. I bought the professional version a couple of months ago. It was easy to install etc. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it only does e-mail. It doesn't sync your calendar/todo. Their Enterprise edition is the only one that will do calendar/todo. Other than that it works great.
I'm definately thinking about trying Pylon Anywhere after reading this thread 'cause I want calendar/todo syncing... And quite cheaper that Duality Enterprise's smallest license.
Thanks Nighthawk. I think the professional was the version I downloaded from Handango. It looked like it still required an exchange server, but I stopped when the licence agreement said 'NO' to installing in USA... I'll let you know what they say... In the mean time, do you know of any 3rd party e-mail apps for PPC that are more reliable for checking the POP 3 server? The Pocket Outlook app time interval ba ed checking seems very intermittant and unreliable.
am-imate,
If you have any questions about Pylon Anywhere just let me know, more than happy to help. The server install is pretty easy, you will need Outlook 2000 w/SP2 (only) and java installed for the machines (server) browser.

Well Nighthawk, I have a question on all this, a kind of « question asked by a dummy » for I know little but not enough to make my way through all the material posted here.
I would like to create a Blackberry like function on my XDA. I’ve looked at this post and got some part of it very clear. The rest remain quite unclear.
My company uses MS exchange server in the office and I have a PC with Outlook on XP on my PC. My company already uses blackberry solution which I do not have but would like to uses my XDA instead to avoid duplication of hardware.
If my understanding is correct,
1. I need to install Pylon Anywhere (or some other application) on my XDA to collect my new mail.
2. I need to liaise with my Mail server administrator to have the server send my XDA a special SMS to silently trigger the synchronization process.
3. I will use on my XDA ActiveSync Inbox to read my mail on my XDA.
Now, this seems to be too simple. Did I put all the pieces in the right place?
Email Push
I'm using the Mnotes program on my i-mate for Lotus Notes wireless push. It works well, the push works flawlessly and doesn't require installation on the server-just my desktop which acts like a server for my handheld. I also have it working through our firewall using a Movian VPN(v4.0). All of this works through my gprs connect.
The only downside is that an incoming or outgoing call interrupts the gprs and the VPN disconnects and must be manually re-connected. on i-Mate

Pylon Anywhere requires a server back-end, meaning you must install a Pylon Anywhere server into your network. This server connects to your companies Exchange/Notes server. It then communicates with the Pylon Anywhere client software on your device, after you have it installed by the server.

Try Funambol. It's open source and configurable... let me see... yes, here: https://www.forge.funambol.org/
Thanks Drnoir,
I have look at this product. It is very nice but the only thing that I don't like is that it Sync all your phone contact, and schedule information to the Funambol server. I was looking for a client which will sync with my office instead.
If you tell me what office service you're using, I might be able to help. Let me know what the specific platforms are and what you need to do to be more precise.
Also, bear in mind that it will also work with any service using SyncML services, not just Funambol.
That said, if it's MS Office you're trying to sync, there is also an Outlook Funambol plugin that will let you pull down the data from the Funambol server. Thus, the server is just the bridge to your data sync needs.
Hi drnoir,
It's for a an email system called firstclass by open text http://www.firstclass.com/ .
I know, not many people used it but our organization is using it.

OK, I did some searching (all hail Google!) and found this article:
http://www.firstclass-groupware.de/FirstClass Extras/S00496427-00496428
with the following instructions:
Basic SyncML device setup
To transfer data from your device or application to your FirstClass account, make sure that the field names you enter match the names on FirstClass. To begin your device setup:
1 Open the SyncML client or menu on your device (refer to your product documentation).
2 Open the settings or profile item (different vendors use different terms for this).
3 Enter the Server URL/address of the FirstClass synchronization server as provided by your system administrator.
It will look something like:
http://<IP address of FirstClass Internet Services server>/cgi-bin/sync
4 Enter your FirstClass user ID and password in the appropriate fields.
5 Select the data types you want to synchronize.
You must set the folder/database names as follows:
Data Type Enter
for contacts contacts
for calendar events calendar
for tasks (to-do items) tasks
Click to collapse
Please note that both the account, the server and the desktop client need to be configured too. Instructions are further down the line on the original document.

KML and XML Files directory
11. Use DecDeg2DecMin.exe, click on CONVERT

12. Choose the KML file you just created from
Google Earth and it wil automatiacally
convert it to an XML file
13. Copy the XML file to your device's

Hi sir charlie. after clicking convert to points, where would the converted file go? the kml file say, saved on my desktop would disappear and searching on my directory, cant seem to find the file, also the converted xml file. (i guess they would have the same filename)
Great app!!
I noticed a pair of issues:
-Sometimes the app is not actioning. For example: the first time I installed the app (mail setting, 1 minute for testing purposes), only three times arrived the email with the coordinates. Soft reset and nothing, but open the app again, stopped the sender, restarted the sender, and It work fine, but not sure If this will happen another time.
-When my device is in sleep mode, at sending the email the screen turns on for few moments (in blank)
Requests:
Can you add a pair of thing for n0obs/lazy users like me? (they do not want to deal with xml files)
-The format of the coordinates in the email mesagge
Current:
2/22/11 2:54:23 AM @ No Data
LAT: 16.xxxxxxx, LON: -99.xxxxxxxx
Desired:
2/22/11 2:54:23 AM @ No Data
LAT/LON
16.xxxxxxx, -99.xxxxxxxx
This only for direct copy/paste this coordinates in
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
-Or even better: Can you add a clickeable link in the email, that positionates the location directly in Google Maps, via the default browser?
(I just tested it manually in Opera Mobile, and it works, but first need to access to "classic" site of Google Maps [not mobile])
Yes, there are a most advanced ways to use this useful app, but I think that in this way (positioning by means google maps, in the default browser PPC/PC) must be useful for noobs users like me
Best Regards

This only for direct copy/paste this coordinates in
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
-Or even better: Can you add a clickeable link in the email, that positionates the location directly in Google Maps, via the default browser?
(I just tested it manually in Opera Mobile, and it works, but first need to access to "classic" site of Google Maps [not mobile])
Yes, there are a most advanced ways to use this useful app, but I think that in this way (positioning by means google maps, in the default browser PPC/PC) must be useful for noobs users like me
Best Regards

Sorry but I cannot see any XML folder, after conversion. I use a simple c:\temp\ folder in which I put "DecDeg2DecMin.exe" and the "filename.kml" (exported from Google Earth).
After pressing "Convert to POINTS" button, I select my filename.xml; then the program asks me if I want to convert another file (I answer "no"). Then the original "filename.kml" disappears and no xml file appears !

Very cool, well done. I assume you're planning to publish on the marketplace as well? Thanks for providing the XAPs.
Have you tested on WP8? If not, I'll give it a try on my ATIV S when I get home.

was about to try this but I am having problems with the IP address.
EG runs on a system (Windows 8.1 64bit) with the IP: 192.168.2.102
I've setup RemoteGhost on the phone with that IP address and I am using the default port.
apparently EG is receiving the command but the log lists
TCP.mute ['192.168.2.103', u'RemoteGhost']
which makes no sense
I checked my router and there is no redirect/port forward I can see that would cause this.
PS. Other EG plugins (like MusicBee) work perfectly fine with a www server by Pako.
any help appreciated.
cheers
edit:
never mind. after setting up e.g. VLC player I was able to get this to work. it still lists the wrong IP address but once I assign the received commands to the VLC player configuration buttons it works anyway.
cheers

Hello
Log list the phone Ip address and not your EG ipaddress.
So everything is working fine.
TCP.mute ['192.168.2.103', u'RemoteGhost']
And when you map this event with application context in Eventghost there is no link with ip address so it will work regardless of phone ip.
For example mute button will be : TCP.mute
May be in next version I will add dns name support for EventGhost server and maybe an autodiscover system over lan.

Well I have Eventghost in my PC and I followed the steps in the OP.. Yes my phone does have wifi.. Is the Eventghost IP address different from the one given on my router's settings page? How do I find this IP address?

You need to specify IP address of your computer where EventGhost Server is running.
Not your external IP address.
Can I use the ip address that shows up here... http://www.whatismyip.com/

Update 1.4.3
Optimize application for Windows Phone 8
I would like to use an android as a Windows 10 PC terminal. I'm using a Samsung Fold3 running Android 12 if it matters. It seems like a fairly simple process. Enable Remote Desktop on the Windows 10 PC. Make sure the PC's firewall (and virus protection software) passes Remote Desktop access. Install Remote Desktop Client on the Android and setup the connection to the PC.
The Remote Desktop Client sees the PC, fills in the active user account and requests the user password. I can enter the password but the android does not respond to the "Continue" button and all I can do is cancel out of it. I can also try to edit the PC configuration to setup a user account so that a password does not need to be entered each time but in this case the save button is unresponsive whether or not a password is entered.
This same thing happens whether I select the PC found on the local wifi or I enter the PC's IP address manually (with or without the 3389 port number).
Can anyone give me a clue as to what I'm doing wrong or how to proceed?
Sorry. User error. I was doing something stupid.
Never mind.
These remote desktop options allows you to access Windows from Android easily with just one click.https://www.anyviewer.com/how-to/remote-control-windows-10-from-android-0427.html

Thanks for the link.
My initial problem was just a usage error getting Microsoft Remote Desktop Client to work when on the same network. I fixed that issue and am able to use it to control my PC from an android as long as I'm on the same local network which is useful but I would also like to be able to do it from anywhere on the internet.
Your link led to a discussion of this issue with the possibility of using port forwarding or a VPN to allow access to my PC from an external network with varying degrees of complexity and hacking potential.
The link also discussed using chrome and a google account to access my PC remotely. This is unacceptable because I won't use chrome and have uninstalled it from all my android devices plus although I do have a Google account, I only use it to explicitly download apps from the store and otherwise disable Google Play Services and the Google Play Store and will not use any app that requires Google Play Services to function. So this option is out.
The final option requires me to create an account at a third party site and presumably direct all of my traffic through this third party. This too is unacceptable to me.
So the question is, is there a simpler method to access my PC from an android device that's on a different network than having to setup a vpn or enabling port forwarding on my router, that doesn't require registering for and using a third party service to accomplish the goal?
