try this...
if you are using default music app, disable the headset control in all the other music player apps, if any...
if you are using another app enable headset control on that app (and disable it on all other music apps)...

I was using jusada ics, iPhone headset, and pause/play button worked, I was using PowerAMP, winamp, meridian, and now playerpro, now I'm using 'signature' and everything is ok, maybe fault is in your headset?

here is the apk... but i somewhere heard that its only for froyo..!!
am not sure either I know the xperia play has one on it so maybe you have to wait till 2.3 to come
DSPManager is hands down the best one! Just flash it and you're good to go. With DSPManager settings applied on top of PowerAMP EQ, the difference is night and day. Try for yourself!

Why not Google Music? Winamp and PowerAMP should work fine too, but PowerAMP is $5 I think.

Anyone know of a music player that looks exactly like it or have the .apk for it ?
I personally don't like the moto music player syncing lyrics and constantly wasting data

yes exactly that , but I'm using Player Pro, which has a skin just like that and is very customizable compared to that one I can add Genre as a selection as well! Recommend Player PRO
I use google music player. Most if my music is on the cloud. I like it as a replacement over stock.

Try GoneMad Music Player. One of the better music player, imho
There is trial version for you to try, though
HoloMusic from HoloApps.
I have not tried it though.

Using Rooted Xperia Tipo Dual with Stock Rom
I was running foxhound rom1.3 and I used to get the effect of DSP manager on stock music player and video player(stock). But when I came into 1.5 version, its supported only in Apollo or Google play music play. I'm hugely disappointed about this. That effect in the video player was simply awesome. Is there any method to bring it back? Can someone help??

I installed the ROM without selecting the optional beats audio. Then used this mod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945535. Now I have beats audio also in stock apps. The beats audio which came with the ROM was not providing effect for the stock players. Now I have the effect in video player also.
