So i dont take credit for this so i posted the whole page please in joy.
Unless you own one of the five phones that support Netflix's new Android app, Thursday's announcement was worthless.
But thanks to some clever folks on Reddit, Netflix's petty device restrictions needn't apply. With a rooted Android smartphone, you can trick Netflix into thinking your device is approved for streaming video. It's not a perfect fix -- some users can't get it to work -- but it'll do until Netflix officially brings its app to more Android phones.
The first thing you'll want to do is root your phone. You can look up instructions for specific devices at xda-developers, but keep in mind that rooting is not supported by warranty and could turn the phone into a paperweight.
Still with us? Now, follow the instructions, as posted on Reddit:
1) Download ES File Explorer (Or any other root file editor)
2) In ES File Explorer, go into Setting > Root Settings and enable both check boxes
3) Navigate to /system/ and copy/paste build.prop to /sdcard/ (just in case)
4) Open & edit /system/build.prop
5) Change the following lines to make your phone think it is an HTC G2:
--ro.product.model=HTC Vision
--ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
OR
--ro.product.model=Nexus S
--ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
6) Reboot the phone
7) Install the netflix apk (if you haven't already)
Enjoy
I haven't tried this myself, as my only Android device is a Droid Incredible, which doesn't require extra hoop-jumping. Obviously, you work around Netflix's obstacles at your own risk, but the ability to tinker is one of the reasons you got an Android phone in the first place, right?

best app ever im waiting to find positive attitude so i can donwload to my phone and make it work nicee anyone know if its working good the netflix aps or it crashes?
I installed the hacked version that doesn't try to authenticate your phone and it lets me view and manipulate my queue, but when I try to stream, I get a blank white screen with nice clear audio. It seems there's a legitimate reason that Netflix is only releasing the app for certain phones. We may just have to wait on them to get it working for our hardware.

Netflix does work on our phones. There are Three ROMS out there that work perfectly. Sense 3.0, Cyanogen, one of the MiUi, and some of the TeamRoyal ROMs.
why wait when you can obtain now?
Can u share more I have cyonagen mod and haven't found a working version.

Have to use CM nightlies. Forget when they introduced it, but Cyanogen tweeted he had a fix a few days before the nightly was released.
I have to use the latest nightly and change the build.prop to HTC vision. Then I can download from the market and it works great.

I've tried this before and it doesn't work. This is the reason why I looked into rooting my device and ultimately flash it with teamroyal's ROM. Like neidlinger said, I got netflix working on my phone flawlessly!
i've tried all kinds of ROMs and netflix apps. none worked. until today! CM7 Nightly #100. then i had to install the 6.6.2011 updated netflix apk and boom, its working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
interesting i just downloaded the apk off the internet and it seems to work fine so far, but i haven't used it that much either

Just a heads up. Edge is absolutely phenomenal on the Touchpad.

No, I was just wondering since it can cause issues. But for me Edge works with and without it.
Edge EX is also working fine for me on CM9 Alpha 0.6. I didn't do anything special, it just worked.
*ETA: Which version of CM9 are you running? Version 0 and 0.5 had an issue with some games that has been fixed in 0.6
Whole pack is amazing so far. Goo is just amazing and fun same for osmosis and edge is a nail biter. Haven't tried the last on but assuming its half as good as the other three your in for a treat its also the biggest at 150 megs. They all load and play fine on cm9 6

my only issue is that i noticed it doesn't show up in the android market as being installed. however i was able to get to an 'update' option which then said 'you cannot update this app because you did not purchase it'. is there a way to install apps thru the marketplace when you've purchase them elsewhere (sounds ridiculous to me).
i had this happen when i wanted to update an app that i had paid for thru the market quite a long time ago and i ended up clearing the market cache and reinstalling the app with no problems. however, this doesn't fix the issue with these games.

You won't be able to update through the market right now. Osmos and Edge have in app prompts built in to check for updates and allow you to download them. Updates for the other two will be posted to your humble bundle download url and they are working on making a Humble app that does install through the market and checks for updates

Q: How will my Humble Bundle for Android games be updated? A: If there are any updates to the games, we will post them to your download page. There will be a timestamp, letting you know when the newest version was posted.
Also, the latest builds of EDGE and Osmos will have an in-app update feature -- if they notice that Humble Bundle has a new build, it will show a dialog box asking if you'd like to update. We're hoping to work with the developers to have this feature added to the other games.
Finally, we're beta testing a Humble Bundle Android app that will organize your Humble Bundle for Android games, and alert you when a new version is available. We'll be sure to let you know when the app goes live!

Short answer is go back to the same page you downloaded from and updates will be posted there.
If you want to check if there is and update you can check the game's Google market page. If an update is available, the update button will appear, but you won't be able to use it.
You can also check the Humble Bundle's Twitter feed as they have been posting there when updates are made available:
http://twitter.com/humble
Eventually, there will be a separate Humble Bundle app that checks all your Humble games for updates and downloads them if there are any, but that app is not out yet.
I have some of this posted in the Q&A but thought it deserved a thread here as I now have it working with Google Play Music on ICS. I have not been able to get the new YouTube application ported over to ICS yes but I'm still working on it.I could probably get this working on Gingerbread by changing the manifest again but I no longer have a GB device so if someone really wants it let me know.
What you need:
The modified NexusQ.apk file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28636772&postcount=23
The new 4.3.605 Google Play Music apk which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19423409&postcount=1
A Nexus Q and WiFi network.
A device running ICS. I used my Bionic running leaked ICS but I did have to root in order to install the new 605 Play Music application.
Instructions:
Install the new (4.3.605) Google Play Music application from Steve0007's posted linked above. If you get an "Existing package with same signature.." error you will need to do the following (this is what worked on my Bionic):
WARNING: ROOTING YOUR DEVICE AND CHANGING THE SYSTEM FILES CAN CAUSE BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Root your device (I used this method on my Bionic: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...gh-releases-ics-leak-root-exploit-bionic.html.) Install Root Explorer from the market and delete the existing com.google.android.play.music.xxx.xx.xxx apk from /system/app. Reboot device. Copy 605 apk to device and install.
END SCARY ROOT WARNING
Install the modified NexusQ.apk, plug in the Q, turn on Bluetooth on your device (it will prompt you to if you don't) and get connected! I had to go through the process several times before it successfully paired up but from what I've read the same is true on JB devices as well. If you need to wipe out the Q you do so by unplugging it, plugging it back in and as soon as the blue ring starts place your palm over the single LED on the top until the ring goes from flashing red to swirling purple. This will factory reset the device. Since getting both my Bionic and Xoom paired it's worked well.
Enjoy until the official ICS and below apps drop from Google.
If anyone is successful at getting the JB YouTube application working on ICS please let me know.
Thanks to everyone that helped me get this working!
Thanks a ton!!! I've added a link to this in my roll-up (here) in the general thread so others will find it. I'm now able to use my Nexus Q, thanks again!
Eventually I'll start learning to do some dev work :/
I followed your directions but I still cannot stream anything, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I was able to get the Nexus Q 8 Ball easter Egg to work.
What is your current status? Do you have the 4.3.605 music player installed? If so you should have the little "beam" icon on the top right when playing music and tapping that should make the Q almost instantly start streaming that song.

Did you read the part about needing to manually remove the old play music application via root explorer (or a simple uninstall if allowed)? Have you tried either?
I wasn't too happy with Google either but the support page for the NQ does say that it is only working on JB until purchased units start shipping. Plus I've learned a lot getting this to work! ;-)

Just though I should specify what rom I had success with. I copied the app to /system/app folder and changed the permissions. I did NOT have google music previously installed. When I ran the app to install it said install failed. I then installed the NexusQ app directly from my SD card, which installed no problems. I did not try to run the NexusQ app and rebooted the phone. Once rebooted i turned on my WIFI and bluetooth and launched the NexusQ app and rebooted the Nexus Q. The app paired up with the Q no problem. I was then able to run Google Music app and play to the Q with no issues. *NOTE* When i walked out of the house (i did not manually disconnect the wifi or bluetooth, just hit the stop play music button and turned off the TV and receiver) and came back later, turned the TV and receiver back on, the visualizations or music track would not show at all. Just the NexusQ home screen. I rebooted the Q and everything is working fine again.
No, youtube does not work (which I think is posted an original post somewheres). It seems that a ported app will be needed to push youtube videos to the Q. I cannot test Google movies/TV as I dont own any.
I've tried exactly this on my HTC One S running ICS (albeit with HTC Sense) and can't get it to stream to the Q.
Everything installs fine (if I move it to /system/apps and change the permissions as mentioned) but I see no option in the Play Music app to stream to the Q.
Additionally, the new Play Music app looks it has lost quite a bit of functionality to the previous version - perhaps indicating that the installation went badly? For instance, there are much fewer options on the settings page and there's no option to choose or configure my Google account anywhere.
bobukcat - is this the case for you?

No, my play music application has all the previous functionality and even more options in Settings, including Nexus Q settings. Did you install the Q application first? I don't know why this would matter but that is what I did.
Did you just move the new play music apk to the /system/app location or did you actually install it from application manager in Astro or other file manager? I don't know that just moving the apk to that folder will work (I don't think I even tried that) so you may have to delete the old one, reboot and then install the new one from the apk. Please try that and let us know if it works.

Yeah, I've tried to rebuild the YouTube application from JB with a new manifest multiple times but I still can't get it to work right, I did finally get it to install but it just constantly FCs and never really runs. Clearly someone much more skilled than I (which wouldn't take much) at modifying apks would need to look into this or we just wait for the official app from Google to drop.
Strange that the volume control from your phone doesn't work, as long as I'm in the Play Music application it works fine on both my Bionic and Xoom.
As reported in the OP I too had lots of errors and force closes, etc. when trying to get this to run the first time but from what I've read that happens on JB devices too and in fact I had a few on my Xoom running TeamEOS nightlies.
For those MagicJack users who have thus far been frustrated, there is a new app (Talk Free) which allows us to use our MJ accounts to make calls with our TPs. Play store has it.
Quality dependent on good wifi signal, as always. Audio receive and speech from early experience, very good. However, lots of echo experienced on the other end's transmit.
Also note, when the app is in opened on the device, mic will not work with other apps. App must be forced closed, as no exit exists for app presently. It's still beta, albeit a good start.
Neat to be able to make calls from the TP. Running ICS nightly fwiw.

Is that a yes or no?
PackageUsageStats is not same as getRecentTasks. I doubt you can get same info from PUS as in getRecentTasks in pre-LP.
Hi,
May I ask what you mean by giving the example of Greenify? What exactly is the shortcoming with Greenify in L in contrast to pre-L?
I was following their change logs and it seems to me that there is nothing Greenify nowadays couldn't do in L. What am I missing?
I am just asking, because I am not sure why and whether I should install this module as a Greenify (beta) user.
Wouldn't it be easier to introduce your fix in their own code?
Modify module to work for only one app?
I'm wondering how I could modify this module to make it so that it only works for one particular app (Last App Switcher). I like the idea of Android preventing third party apps from getting my recent app details, but I also miss using LAS.
I'm thinking that in the call to XposedBridge.hookAllMethods() I could replace the third argument XC_MethodReplacement.returnConstant(true) with a instance of XC_MethodHook that checks the calling app's package name and if it matches the package I want to target (com.abhi.lastappswitcher) then it would return true, otherwise it would call the standard Android isGetTasksAllowed function normally. I've never done any Xposed development though so I'm not sure I'm going about it the right way.
Hi @pyler,
Is this module still needed in Android M for apps like Greenify?
Thanks
Phil

I want to know that too
Anymore info on this? Im on g900i lolipop.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S5 using XDA Labs
Needed for Marshmallow? Thx

No, since many devs already use new APIs.. If you have old app, not updated for LP/MM, this maybe needed for full app functionality.
A fantastic module, some apps still require this to work, an app from myself for myself for example: RAMTool https://tiziocaio.store.aptoide.com/app/market/com.thepriest.andrea.ramtool/1422/22796519/RAM+Tool
Since my app analyzes recent and running apps and on a regular interval, I fear that using UsageStatsManager will degrade performance, I am afraid that the cpu will be more stressed.
Rewriting my code to get worse perfornce than before doesn't make me happy ...that's probably the reason i hadn't yet wrote it.
Are my fears unfounded?
