Hey guys,
Forgive me if this question has been covered, I did plenty of searching without finding what I was after.
I have an app that was installed via Android Market. And so, the Android Market knows when new versions are out and notifies me of an update. Titanium Backup calls this the 'Market Link', not sure what else it could be called.
My question is, how would I go about 'disconnecting' the app from the Market? Deleting the market link as if it were side-loaded?
Yes, I know this means no more updates for the app etc. Which is actually what I'm after.
For reference, I'm using a SGS - DocRom V9.6 with Speedmod Kernel k13a
Thanks.
Hey Guys,
So no body knows how to delete the link between app and Android Market so that the Market no longer knows it's installed?
Or am I best copying the app somehow, uninstalling it and then side-loading it?
Thanks.
Using Titanium Backup (Pro) long click/press on the app you want to 'disconnect' from the market.
Then select Detach from Market
I added (Pro) because I'm not sure if it works on the standard version or not..which I'd highly recommend getting the pro version if you don't already have it.
Awesome thanks for the tip, I didin't know there was an extended menu if I long-pressed an app in Ti Backup.
Though once I long-press, 'Disconnect' is greyed out. And in fact, all my apps have this greyed out (And I do have pro), yet they all show in Android Market?
'Force Attach to Market' doesn't seem to do anything either.
Weird, I'm able to Detach the market link of both /data and /system apps - some of which I do and do not have backups of.
I'm not sure if this will really do anything, but you can always try using the "market doctor" to find missing market links, then see if you're able to remove the link that it finds. But to be honest, I'm not really sure that will do the trick nor do I have any clue why that option isn't available to you
Only other thing I can think of is to clear the market's cache/data:
Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Market
click force stop then clear data & clear cache
If they're both blanked out, just use TiBackup to wipe the market data.
After all that, see if you're able to Detach the Market Links
Hope this works

Thanks for the help.
Looks like clearing the data from the Market app (as you described) has allowed me to detach my apps from the Market through Ti Backup now.
That's not how I managed to do it though. I did it a far more complicated way!
I made sure I had a backup of the app, then uninstalled it.
I then browsed to the Titanium Backup backup folder on the internal SD card, and found the *.properties file of the app in question.
Long press on it and opened it in Text Editor.
I then deleted out every line that started with 'market.'
I then saved it, and Ti Backup automatically creates a backup of the original file.
Then I restored the app.
But to get this process to work, I also had to clear the Market app data (as per your tip).
Did I mention complicated!

Not sure I'll get a reply on an over a year old thread but worth a try. I tried this method but didn't work for me. When restoring the app did you restore data also? Thanks.
I'm still here!
The app I was trying to disconnect from the market I don't think had any real data to restore, so I don't think I was restoring data as well, no.
I'd say both the Market (now Play Store) and Ti Backup have changed a fair bit since this post. Ti Backup does have the ability to detach apps from the Play Store, if you find it in the app list and long press it will show the option. Some apps I think won't detach, and it could be because they're linked to your google/gmail account (for certain permissions or whatever). If they remain linked to that account, then I guess the Play Store still thinks it's installed on the phone (because it is).
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help!

Thanks for the reply. The app I wanted to break from the market is Business Calendar Pro that I bought a while back. The new updates don't work with the ROM on my phone so I wanted to stop the updates. I have MyBackup Pro and it has an option to break the market link but doesn't work. I haven't bought Ti Backup but use the free version. I don't want to buy it just to find that it won't work. I don't think Biz Cal uses google data but it does us the built in calendar's data so that might be why I can't break the link. Oh well. I'll keep trying different options. Thanks again.
Hi, not sure if this will do the trick but you could try extracting the APK for the app (not sure if TiB can do it or this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extract.apk) And then uninstall the market version and side-load the extracted version. I have a feeling it may not work as sometimes when I've side-loaded beta versions the released version has shown up in the Play Store as installed. When I try and uninstall it from there, the Play app tells me the app wasn't installed from Play and gets me to confirm uninstall.
I guess that's the long way of saying that the Play Store app must be using some mechanism to detect apps installed on the phone, even if not from the store.
Thanks again but the market seems to keep the data linked somehow. I'll keep trying different scenarios I guess...
did you find any method that work?
Honestly I haven't had time to mess around with it this weekend, but I'll keep up on the research and post here if I find something out. Thanks
Titanium Backup is not working for sure, at least for now, maibe they'll fix this sometimes!

We are aware of the detach apps not working. This is mainly because of the recent upgrade from google market to google play. We are working on it but Google Play is really stubborn! We need your help to "star" this post so that it comes into notice by Google

Yea. I figured that. Glad I didn't buy either to try them. thanks. It sucks but will have to deal with for now I guess.
found a fix
Hey. So I was looking around some more and found an app called "market fixer" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer&hl=en
It seems to scan apps that aren't linked to the market. The other thing it does, if you "scan all links", is give you all your market links which you can then select and "delete market link"
I check and it works. Also some reported it stops working on reboot, but mine worked fine. The app does warn that it will need to be reapplied if market data is cleared. Just wanted to update you and hopefully help anyone else with these troubles
Hi. I just gave this ago and worked very well. Thanks for finding that out and sharing.

edit: i use pro version btw and works for me jus fine
update
update on market fixer. I guess if you clean google play cache it relinks also. easy enough for me to use market fixer before I "update all" though so no prob for me.
I have apps that I purchased (or got free for the day) on Amazon App Store, but want to purchase from Android Market. The problem is that the apps show up as purchased in the Market and I cannot purchase them. I have tried force closing the Market, clearing Market cache, installing the app, attaching it to the Market, detach it from the Market, uninstalling the app, rebooting to recovery, wiping cache & dalvik cache, booting back to the system, clearing Market cache again, but it still shows up as purchased.
I even tried emailing Google's support. Their answer was "According to our records, the device you're using isn't supported for use with Android Market at this time."
Granted, when filling out the form, I put shooter as device, but holy crap, they should know these things if they're supporting Android.
I always has that problem with some apps from amazon. I use TIBU and it work 100% of time detach the apps from the market. You need the premiun tibu, go to the app and long press the title it will show a menu with the option to detach from market.

The phone knows you got the app and it thinks you bought it from the market so it attach the apps, with titanium backup you can detach the apps
Yes, I know. That is what I did. It didn't work.
Why does it matter if an app you got from Amazon for free shows up? You got a full version app from Amazon, which also keeps it up to date, so why the need to purchase from Android Market? I dont understand your reasoning.
From what I read, you got a free app of the day from Amazon (for instance, Hungry Shark 3). Since you got it under the free app of the day, you got the full version, no ad app. This would be the same version you would pay for in the Android Market, which seems to be what you want to do...so why would you want to do that? Amazon gives free updates for apps you downloaded...Im just kind of at a lost for why you need to do this. Maybe explain why you want to buy something you got for free.
Also, uninstall it from the Amazon app store and then it should remove it from the Android Market which will allow you to purchase from Android Market instead
Because the time between the Market update and the App Store update can be months, and I did try uninstalling it, several times
Yea, that's true, updates sometimes take a while. Are you uninstalling from Android Market or from Settings -> Applications.

Market page only shows open (or update for some)

This maybe a more tedious way but you can use titanium backup to detach apps from the android market.
Yeah, I know, that was the first thing I tried
I'm having a hard time following what process has already been done. If you don't want to purchase the app you should be able to get the .apk from your system, temporarily save that somewhere else. Then uninstall from Amazon, clear all data and cache from Amazon. Don't log back in or even open Amazon. Then transfer that.apk back to some folder such as downloads. Install it, use tb to attach it to the market, and you are done. Have you done that? There should be no reason that wouldn't work.
Here's the long process I tried:
FC Market, clear Market cache, install app, attach app to Market using TB Pro, detach app from Market using TB Pro, uninstall app, reboot to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik cache, reboot, clear Market cache again
All this was done while logged out of everything
Yeah, you don't want to do that. The goal is to have the .apk of the full version of the paid app in question, install it, then attach it to the market.

OK, Google support actually helped for once.
If you have apps purchased from another app store, and they are showing up in Android Market as Purchased, and no matter what you do, it stays that way, here's what you do:
GSupport told me to just do a factory reset, which didn't actually work since I run AOSP. I had to reformat & flash the stock ROM. Once done, I just went into the Market and purchased the apps I wanted to, then recovered from nandroid.
I'm curious as to why you would want to get the app for free and then pay for it? Maybe I'm missing something but I have no problems getting an app from amazon for free that would have cost me on the market. The again if I'm missing something I'm sorry.

Two reasons:
1) Amazon App Store updates come WAY after Android Market updates
2) Devs don't get anything from FAOTD on Amazon (what's 70% of $0.00?)
Gotcha now I understand thanks for clearing that up.

Tried this and it didn't work; the app I'm trying to purchase is Swift Key X which is .10 today and I'd really like to purchase it through there.
Bah.
One of my friend have installed a pirated app of swiftkey...now the market have started throwing error for him for swiftkey and it had stopped giving predictions. He came to me asking for help. I told him i can only help in case he purchase it (and sale was also going on) so when he went to his market to buy it shows there already purchased (even after uninstalling from phone). I tried for him by detaching the app from the market from titanium backup but still it shows there. Cleared all cache and data for the app and market and still no avail. Is there any way to fix this or will have to go ahead and buy from another google account and have multiple accounts added in market ?
*(sorry for informal english and any grammatical errors that might have made their way in)*
Thanks much in advance!!
I have never heard of a pirated app showing as 'purchased' in the app store.
Uninstall the app.
Clear app store cache and data. Reboot.
if it shows as purchased, just reinstall. If not, buy it.
It seems like he wants the legit app and not the pirated one. If the app store shows it as purchased, and he/you, whoever, downloads it, it will be the legit app. The app store will not give you a pirated version.
I see no problem here, other than your friend pirates apps.

No it doesn't work like that. When I get free apps off amazon the market sometimes shows when they need to be updated. If you try to update them, it gives you an error saying you didn't pay for it. If you uninstall the app, it will still show up as purchased, and you won't be able to purchase it or install it.

No it shows. Normally when u install apps from Amazon or use some apk for testing then those apps too show as purchased in the market. U cant reinstall from the market and neither can purchase them. Market doesnt allow you to repurchase the purchased item(though infact it was never purchased).
I have tried detaching it from market though TiB but still this doesnt get fixed.
Not sure if reflashing the whole rom after a full wipe will help.
Anybody??

You could try buying it from the market website. Apps not installed from the market will not show under My Apps but if you search for the app on your device it will show as installed since it probably detects the app on the device itself.

No luck there too. Web market also shows that the app is purchased. Guess its synced to google market's servers and even reflashing wont work after full wipe.

That is weird that it happens that way. It has not happened to me and I use amazon market and have pushed many apps to my phone. I have not encountered this. Also, android market has never prompted me to update an app that I got from Amazon.
Not saying it does not happen, it seems obvious that it does, it just has not happened to me.
Is the app available on Amazon market? If so, can he just purchase it from there?

Was referring the Amazon apps case as stated by Waddle in the above post. And sadly Amazon not available in our country
I seem to have this issue as well. Trying to move away from amazon market and re-purchase my apps on the android market, however the amazon purchased apps are showing in my android market as purchased and I can't get rid of it.
Any other ideas on how this can be fixed?
sign in with another google id and you can buy it again. But this way has it draw backs too..
I have the same problem with swiftkey... I got it from the GetJar store a few months ago but it was an old version and i uninstalled it. now I cant buy it from the market as it is shown as purchased. and as said by abhisahara nothing seems to help.
cant anyone think of something to do?
Same thing going on here
oddly enough, I had dead space and shadowgun then i saw the 50% off and i uninstalled both from my android and then i went and purchased dead space and it worked but then went to purchase shadowgun and it shows as purchased and i cannot neither download it nor purchase it. It is becoming annoying. Any ideas?
have you tried uninstalling it from within the market app on your Android device?
My forum colleague found a way. Here is the solution - it's a croatian forum so i will write it here in english.
1. open Google play (Market) in Chrome browser (on your desktop/laptop) and find the wanted app (best would be that you backup the app via Ttitanium backup if you can, and uninstall it)
2. right click at PURCHASED, and select Inspect element
3. above the selected row you'll see data-ispurchased="true". Look at the screenshot (if the sshot doesn't work, PM me)
4. change"true" in "false" and select enter (on your keyboard)
5. now click PURCHASED that will open the popup for buy via google wallet so you can purchase the app (of course, you must have a valid credit or visa card and a registered wallet account for this to work)
it worked for me. bought two apps, cut the rope and quell reflect.
maybe it works in other browser, didn't try it.
had some problems with downloading the second app. had re-change the inspect element to true. and after the re-check the app started downloading on my phone.
thanks to my pce forum colleague Lacy for this info.
It really works, I've been looking for ages !
After a few tries and uninstalling the app from my phone, I could purchase it. No more update worries !

I downloaded an app from the black market a while ago, now it's on sale in the real market and I want to buy it.
I uninstalled it but it shows up as "Purchased" on Google Play and when I try to download I get an error saying it failed because I haven't purchased it.
I tried breaking the market link (with Titanium pro), it didn't help

Clear the market data and cache. You might have to reboot. Also make sure that you are at normal dpi for your phone.
Absolution 3.7/Redemption ICS A2b1
Found only an option to clear search history. Also, what is DPI?
edit: ok, stupid question. found it, tried it and rebooting now
Cleared date, cache and search history
Rebooted
Got the "we're upgrading to Google Play" message again and had to accept the T&C again
But still, shows as purchased...
I did this with another app in the past and didn't have this problem. After I uninstalled what I got from the black market I could immanently purchase it on the Android Market. Maybe it's because of the upgrade to Google Play?
Same here:
When XDA posted the article Over 100 Paid Apps For Free On GetJar, I went ahead and downloaded few apps from there. Now I want to really buy a couple of the apps that I like and I can't.
I tried:
- install the apk from getjar, unlink from market (with TB), uninstall apk
- install the apk from getjar, link to market (TB), uninstall from device
- clean data/cache for the app and the market
- uninstall
- wait.
- Report to market that I did not buy it.
and still: after 2 days with the app uninstalled, the Google Play Market still says "Purchased".
What can I do?
I don't know even it insists on these 2 apps of many that I have, the others doesn't show as installed or purchased even thought they are on my device at the moment :|
Update:
The solution is to install an older version of the marker, in which the app appears as Not purchased, and can be purchased without problems, here is the working version of the market (com.android.vending-2.3.6.apk):

This WORKED!
Just for the information:
Google Market 3.5.16 fixes this issue definitely: now it will not show side loaded apps as Purchased in any case, like this apps installed via Amazon, GetJar, APK, Black market are treated as just "Installed" in the Play Market. You can uninstall them from the market, and when you choose "Update" from the Play Market you'll be shown the "Purchase" dialog to buy the app.

So my questions are:
What are market links?
How do they work?
What does attaching an app to market do/creating a market link?
What does removing a market link do?

market links connect your app to google play store.
when your app receives an update market links helps you to be aware of the same.
its helps u get update info abt your app
if you are rooted, Using Titanium Backup (Pro) long click/press on the app you want to 'disconnect' from the market.
Then select Detach from Market. this will remove your market link but then you wont get any updates..

If I purchase an app or download a free one, will the application have to be repurchased/as if it has never been downloaded so long as it isn't attached to the market via link?

if you purchase an app the the purchase details are linked to your google account. so even if you reflash rom / wipe your phoone etc , if you log into the same google account it will automatically show as you have purchased that app.
Although for safety try not to mess with the market links of purchased apps..

Thank you so much with the fast reply!
One more question, when I download apps through the Play Store, and I go into Titanium Backup, I would expect an option in the menu saying "Detach from market", but they only have the "Attach to market option". this doesnt make any sense since the apps downloaded from the Play Store are already attached from the market. Can someone please explain this to me? Does the "attach to market option only work with sideloaded apps?
One last thing about Paid side loaded apps: Plants Vs. Zombies is $0.99 on the play store, if I side load it and atttach it to the market via a link, will I get updates even though it's sideloaded? Also will it appear in my app history as purchased if it's installed on the device? Will it appear as purchased if it's uninstalled from the device?
Thanks!

its showing "attach to market" because u have not installed that app from play market. you might have downloaded apk from somewhere and installed it separately(side loaded). Check other apps too that u have downloaded from play store have the same problem.

attaching market link should ensure that you get updates regardless whether the app is sideloaded or not ! i mean thats what attaching to market means ! no matter whether you are using TB or not if you have purchased app the it is linked to your google account that the app is purchased by you. Google is'nt counting on everyone to install TB and use the option of attach to market to get updates on purchased apps....

unfortunately only for the time beeing.. after a reboot the link is there again. Pretty annyoing as there are some devs patching their apps to crap until they don't work anymore. Got one of them and it was so easy to update all your apps, but you have to do it one after another 'cause this s**t app simply does not work when updated.
