Hello
In South Africa we are up to 2.3.4 as being our latest firmware update available via Kies. In the official roms I see other countries go up to 2.3.6.
Now from what I have seen I am going to go and assume that the different regions differences are for optimal workings for the modem, gps information, CSC and the like.
The firmware I am currently using was taken from the post by Infratech
PDA:XWKI4
PHONE: XXKI1
Date: 14/09/2011
Android 2.3.4
OJC (XFA, XFC, XFE, XFM, XFV) (South Africa) *I am using XFM
Now how do I tell what firmware that doesnt match say phone and/or PDA would work best, I've seen mention of "choosing the closest number" but thats vague to me. I would prefer my phone to be using firmware of a place that actually gets regular updates but not at the expense of phone performance/compatability.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Please note I'm not asking for blind "use this" answers but trying to actually get an understanding so that I know how it works.
The only way you can tell is by using or having recommends from other local users for the modem/baseband .
CSC is country specific but is only a list of local network settings and they can be entered manually .
Thats it Kernels are interchangeable as is firmware .
Only check is that a firmware supports the language you require .
If you want only official updates via Kies then you stick with Kies and flash no other firmware .
Samsung release firmware its sent to the network /phone providers they decide if and when or not to update .
Generally the stock European firmware is more than likely to be available for later versions .
Flash say UK stock firmware 2.3.6 with a change of modem if you find one better in SA and likewise a change of CSC to your country .

This fake and its not working

Hey guys,
I am very new to android and this forum as well
I bought my sgs2 outright from Optus Telechoice, and recently i upgraded its firmware via Kies.
This is the firmware information shown in Kies whenever the phone is connected with usb:
PDA:KG1 / PHONE:KF3 / CSC:KG1 (OPS)
it says this is my current and the latest firmware.
*NEVER rooted my phone before, phone was shipped with KE7 if not mistaken.
Ok my question starts here, i've been reading forums for quite a while, and i notice that very few user have the same firmware as mine. i wonder why?
First of all, I heard that the official 2.3.4 firmware has been released via KIES, i really like to get the update but KIES said my current firmware is the latest.
I read this sentence from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
saying that:
These packages below are not official firmware packages, they are Frankenstein package created due to demand for Firmware with different CSC and modems. KIES will not recognise the firmware so you won't be able to update to new firmware using KIES unless you flash back to a firmware meant for your device first. Otherwise there will always be Odin to use for updates
and i found the exact same firmware version as shown in my KIES:
Optus OPSKG1 CSC: http://www.multiupload.com/EPWZTIMS1F
which proves that my current version is a kind of so called
+++++++[Frankenstein Firmwares]+++++++, which may restrict me from receiving the latest firmware.
As mentioned from the above, 'KIES will not recognise the firmware so you won't be able to update to new firmware using KIES unless you flash back to a firmware meant for your device first.'
In this case, which firmware is meant for my device?!
* I really wanted to get rid of the Optus bloatware by flashing the stock firmware PLUS get the latest official update 2.3.4 rolled out by KIES.
Can anyone please teach me how and what to do? appreciate that and thanks in advance to any who reply me.
*i am an adroid newbie pls bear with me!
Images shown in my sgs2 and KIES:

CORRECT
First of all, I heard that the official 2.3.4 firmware has been released via KIES, i
NO
i notice that very few user have the same firmware as mine. i wonder why?
Because they have flashed a later version via ODIN of stock Samsung firmware that may be a leaked version .
which proves that my current version is a kind of so called
+++++++[Frankenstein Firmwares]+++++++,
No not if you updated via Kies you are not understanding the post .
In this case, which firmware is meant for my device?!
The one you have on it is the latest for your device as installed by Kies .
I really wanted to get rid of the Optus bloatware by flashing the stock firmware PLUS get the latest official update 2.3.4 rolled out by KIES.
One Samsung path and wait for 2.3.4 to be rolled out by your network via Kies .
Or two unofficial method of updating firmware using stock Samsung firmware flashed via Odin.

Hi,
First of all thank you for the replies.
are you sure the official 2.3.4 hasn't come out via KIES?
I read some posts regarding the official release though.
Once again from my understanding, my kind of firmware (PDA:KG1 / PHONE:KF3 / CSC:KG1 (OPS)) is actually released by Optus via KIES, it is actually more like the OPTUS (and australian phone carrier) version of this firmware, thats why there are few users compared to the majority.
So what u mean is even though others (non-optus user) might get the update BUT i have to wait for OPTUS itself to roll out the update via KIES, right?
Okay lets not talk about official 2.3.4.
AND one more thing, i would really like to remove the Optus bloatware by flashing STOCK firmware via Odin, but i have no idea which STOCK firmware i have to choose from. i'm aware that there are a lot of stock firmwares available from the link provided above, but which is the appropriate as well as the latest STOCK firmware for my unit.
Since my current firmware is PDA:KG1 / PHONE:KF3 / CSC:KG1 (OPS), obviously it is a Optus-based firmware, so which STOCK firmware do i have to choose from? what is the 'stock version' for my current firmware as listed from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
i am really stuck here. Hope you understand my situation.
Thanks once again mate

Thought so.A csc is not carrier based its country based. For example Im in Spain and in use FOP on any network,KOR is korea standard and so on.You can flash a firmware with a multi-csc if that firmware is official in those countries. If not you get the csc for the valid country only.If you go to the link below you will see a list of all official firmwares. If you go even further below to the "FRANKENSTEIN SECTION" you will see more firmwares and a list of CSCs.You can flash a Frankenstein FW,factory reset your phone then if you want flash any of the CSCs you see there and do another factory reset to complete it.In my experience its not a good idea to flash another CSC to an official FW so thats why its best to choose a Frankenstein one which are just the same, just pimped-up by XDAs intratech. The other wat is to flash a custom ROM that has a multi CSC pack built in.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290468
thats what i thought so i used the firmware in the link above i then did a factory reset so kies would see it as if i done it vis kies. Kies then checked for an update and none was found but then when i went to change the csc i only had xeu.
Dose anyone know when/if 2.3.5 for xeu will be out i dont want to flash again
because i just got kies to work with the firmware im useing
Kies wont work from the CSC you on your phone. It will search for the latest update depending on the product code of your phone and if you flash a non-official firmware then it will say that the firmware that you have cannot be updated. If you want the official 2.3.5 then you need a factory unlocked SGS2 as they are usually the first to get updates and dont flash it with a non-oficiall FW.Flash a custom ROM if you wantIm on KI4-KK5 2.3.6 cos I have a custom ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290468
it is unlocked to all networks it unlocked when i flashed it with 2.3.4
Kies reads a specific registry key to get the phone details like
I9000ADJP6/I9000O2UJP3/I9000ADJP3/I9000ADJP6
If Kies tries to match firmware to the above codes it would fail .
As per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1089874&highlight=hidswver
the Check FUS post allows direct downloads
or spoofFW may allow you to download a firmware from Kies by spoofing codes .

Its just that you said you de-branded it.I took that as a locked phone that you have unlocked with a flash but that wont change its product code.
ah im with you now how can i unlock it so the code can change?
it was on t-mobile 2.3.5 is out now for t-mobile but kies is saying im up to date not sure now how to get get 2.3.5 but so kies still works
on my mums galaxy s her sales code was cpw i changed it by *#272*IEMI#
changed to xeu it then had an update to 2.3.5
CPW CSC is the best for the UK as it covers more networks .

i did try CPW but still no update and this one http://www.multiupload.com/QROGHPRZVK made my anti virus pop up when my mums one was set to CPW it would not update till it was set to XEU also CPW is still on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread http://devsrom4android.blogspot.com/2011/10/samsung-galaxy-s2-firmware-updates-via.html
same as XEU

Dont worry to much about the antivirus coming up.Thats just the way your antivirus or firewalls is set.Happens every now and then but its not a virus so just download it anyway.Happened to me a few times, mostly when the file is an md5 file and not a tar file(both go in PDA in Odin too so no worries there). As for Kies I guess its a matter of flashing a compatable firmware that Kies will recognize for the update as normally it wont recognize non official ones.Or a custom ROM if you cant wait.
CPW CSC is the best for UK networks as it covers more networks .
It has nothing to do with updates its only the CSC file that contains multiple network configurations more than the XEU csc does .
CSC is not actually required to use the phone .
SpoofFW might be worth a look from the market .

Hi guys.
I really need to return to swedish stock firmware on my GT-P7510 but I can't find it anywhere. The csc on the original firmware is NSE. Is there anyway to mess with kies to upgrade it to original NSE. Or if someone has tips on how to get swedish stock firmware back I would be extremely grateful.
Best regards, Martin.
Go to samfirmware.com and the Swedish rom should be there?
Will have to be flashed through Odin, if you don't mind a non-Swedish, but official Samsung, check this site:
http://www.teamovercome.net/p7500/?page_id=5 and check section ' Backin’ Up Yer Data & Apps…'
Sent from my GT-P7510 using XDA Premium HD app
No the firmware isnt available on sammobile. Maybe it would work if igot the csc-files for NSE and then update it OTA? But where do i get those?
I assume the celtic region covers Sweden? Last I checked it was covered under that.
Im currently on an UK-firmware and tyis is not right. The swedish one comes with some swedish bloatware. The uk one i have installed is 3.1. If i could only change the csc to nse instead of xeu as it says now I probably would get the rigt firmware OTA? i remember there was an 3.2 update OTA when i bought the Tab. Am i wrong with my theory, or you think it will work?
Flash a celtic region via Odin.
By celtic you mean?? Because i have flashed the uk/ireland firmware with odin and this doesn't contain the NSE csc.
Does anyone know where to get hold of csc files for either NSE or NEE?
Shouldnt they be included via SIM pack? Most sim's come preloaded with the carrier's APN and such
No. Those files are region codes in the samsung firmware. These files make the update-server decide which fw to send to the phone/tab.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
But that shouldn't matter as sooner or later the ICS release will be one general update, It would be like IOS firmware, one general firmware for all regions. Region wise can be determined via IP Address as far as I know. When I had my tab flashed with a malaysian region firmware *Bought it online* as soon as It reached Middle East (where i received it) the update was available via Kies for Middle East update, and not the Asian firmware one.
Then again, why the hassle of kies, Odin for the win. Flashing different regional firmwares since 2007
Hey guys
Im new to the galaxy s3 and samsung, I recently got my GS3 from newegg, unlocked international version.... I was wondering how to know which region the phone was from? I tried googling but i cant seem to find the answer. I came from an SE Arc S, SE had SI numbers so I could tell, but what does samsung use?
Also, there is no update for the latest LFB firmware yet... Does Samsung rollout firmwares for different regions in stages like SE? I'd like to keep everything stock..
When I press *#1234#, I get the following:
ap: i9300ubalf3
cp: i9300ublf2
csc: i9300uubalf3
Thanks
My understanding is that yours is Trinidad and Tobago.
Search for i9300uubalf3 on google and hit the sammobile result.
I think you can follow @SGS3Update on twitter to see if yours got the update, though I'm not sure how reliable this it. Technically, Kies should offer the update as soon as Samsung makes it avail.
What I still don't quite get is the role of CSC. More importantly, can we flash it independently of the firmware? And if so, which CSC canadian and US users should be flashing?

CSC can be flashed as a separate item .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
Says
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either.
CSC not required for phone to work .
jje
Thanks,
Since there is no CSC for Canada or USA, I take it that there is no point in changing it (except for maybe getting faster official updates?)
As far as MMS and Data, in Canada and USA, we'll need modify APN separately since there is no CSC?

Hi, I also have the same CSC as the original poster, Located in Trinidad. Do you know which csc receives the updates as they are released? I want to flash mine to whatever it is.
I had the same *#1234# as OP. I flashed every modem found on the thread here and signal quality results weren't any better. Checked for updates and got nothing. I noticed that most talk about XXBLFB (UTB) UK, so I chose to flash that firmware. Just to be in the same playing field. I am using my phone in the Miami, FL USA area.

Flashed the UK latest firmware, UK CSC and it works fine with Rogers here. The rogers APNs are automatically in the APN list, I guess they get that from the sim?
I'm entirely new to this so try to bear with me
I recently bought a Galaxy SII from a one day deals store and it arrived running Gingerbread 2.3.5. I want to update to the latest version available for the SII however the OTA update won't connect to the server and Kies (after at least two hours trying to get it to recognise my device) has told me that my current firmware can't be updated. Unless someone knows an obvious fix for Kies I guess I'm stuck with having to flash the new firmware using Odin. I'm using a guide on CNET (unfortunately I can't post links yet) that goes through installing ICS but replacing ICS with Jelly Bean.
The biggest problem is which firmware to get. My CSC code is OXA (Open Europe). Do I have to find firmware that matches that or can I just chose any one that I please then follow the guide that I'm using? I've been looking on SamMobile and there is a lot of different regions to chose from but none of them have the OXA CSC code and I don't know what to do. Also, is there anything I should look out for? I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm sure it gets tiresome helping people like me.

There you go OXA It seems open Europe ended at 2.3.5 .. No wonder you can't update.. Anyway Poland's firmware should work just fine. Or just search the firmware of your own region. Do remember to do a factory reset after flashing JellyBean!
Alternately I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 Its the latest firmware Samsung has to offer.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I think I understand now. The CSC is really only relevant to your current version. If I flash Jelly Bean from another region the CSC will just change to that region and still work as normal? Does it have any effect whatsoever on the function of the phone?

Yes CSC is bundled with the firmware. Dunno why but every time I flash a firmware it does not come with CSC and I must flash it manually.. Now that's a whole other story. If you plan on flashing a firmware not related to you region e.g you flash a European firmware while you stay in Asia then the CSC is quite pointless as kies won't let you update through it anyway. That said you must have the correct CSC/Firmware/Modem and region to recieve official updates through Kies. If not updating via Odin is good as well .

Well I live in New Zealand and the phone that I have has the European CSC code. The site that I got it from is called 1-day who claim to find the best prices from around the world in order to give ridiculously low prices. I assume that means that my phone came all the way over from Europe. Based on what you say then, I assume then that the CSC wouldn't matter in my case anyway as even stock, my CSC is in the wrong region?
