[Q] Modifying a ROM....HELP - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love froyo. It's the only android version that is fully supported. A new rom came out called frankentab. I love everything about it except the icons used for home, back, and menu. The icons officially used are honeycomb icons, but I personally think they do not look nice with it...
So I would like to try to change the icons from Honeycomb to ICS myself.
Does anyone know how one may do this?
Any help appreciated
*EDIT*
Due to my unresponsive upper right corner touchscreen,
I changed back to my favorite rom, Beasty's Froyo Ultimate i think its called, and I still would like to try to change those wifi and battery icons I assume its the same framework situation.

From what i could think its in framework could start looking in there in the rom zip

thanks I started looking in there but haven't made any real progress...
I actually kind of abandoned this rom because my touchscreen is unsensitive in the top right corner so the home button was useless. I changed back to my favorite beasty's rom and now I want to change those icons and I assume its the same directions for that too.

You could try the UOT kitchen (edit roms online) or NinjaMorph (android market). I haven't tried either on the gtablet yet so I can't guarantee anything but I have used NinjaMorph on my DroidX and it worked. The UOT kitchen looks really neat just haven't had the chance to try it yet.
By the way I am on Beastly too great Rom but plain Froyo looking! Let me know how it goes I may do this too when I have some time.

Thanks I just made a flashable theme from UOT kitchen, and I am about to put it on, will update once it's done...

2 questions?NEED HELP

Ok my phone is running 2.1 with Aloysius Version 6..I love the rom and the speed.
There are 2 things I want to change, and it will not let me run any type of framework from metamorph to theme the top status icons..
I am wanting to change the top icons to where the usb icon looks like a little flash drive thats blue, the battery is round that is blue(as it dies, it also changes to red color/orange), the 3g icon is a round circle that says 3g. There is a theme that has all of this in it, and when I try to run it, it forces my phone to reboot..any help?
also clear widgets, i cannot get access to this, it basically makes my calendar/weather/etc. transparent etc.
Thanks in advance for the help

If you check the heroc forums you'll find a good bit of stuff. Just make sure its based on the latest Sprint leak. I've tried several and they work. If you want a specific look there's a wealth of how to's over there regarding .9 pngs editing, hex editing etc. Happy hunting also the themers over there are very helpful and quick to respond.e
Could you post me a link to the ones you have tried?

[Theme\WIP] Stock-ish TouchWiz Theme for Eugene's Macnut R12 Series - Group Project

Hey everyone,
Ive just made the switch over to Eugene's MacnutR12 build from TW's Onyx\Obsidian. I'm having a lot of trouble getting a "stock-like" theme working on the Macnut due to the extensive framework modifications. It just boot loops if you do anything significant to it, and I havent found a good method around that yet. Anyone with more theming experience having anything to input? Thanks for your help!
I've attached what is a good starting point theme. I am basically attempting to mirror the "Stockish theme" that TeamWhiskey put together, but am stumbling along the way. I decided this would be a good community project to start. Please use the theme if you like it, and contribute to this thread if you modify it. Looking forward to what people can put together.
THIS IS ONLY FOR EUGENE363's MACNUTR12 BUILD
To Be Done
Redo the notification bar to look like TouchWiz - having issues w/ this personally, mainly w/ getting the power widget back back to normal size so we can use the stock images.
Already Done
Using customized Gmail (always display images) with colored notification
Updated Settings images with JunkDruggler - they looked better
Added in bits and pieces of TouchWiz images - from Stock 2.2 framework\TW's "stockish" framework
Added custom colored notification icons - Just cause I like them
Added "chromed" WiFi bars, will attempt to remake for 5 bar cell antenna - Found this somewhere, please let me know if you made these, you deserve proper credit
Added my segmented green battery mod - feel free to use whatever images you want, I like the segmented green ones.
For the meantime, enjoy my "basic" theme
Thanks to s0niqu3, Eugene363, Manup456, TeamWhiskey, & JunkDruggler for the modified images.
I really hope you manage to get this theme rolling. I actually really like the TouchWiz notification pane.
Here you go. These are bone stock framework files that work on Macnut R12. I made these to have the improvements that Eugene made in Macnut but with the stock look.
I used the framework files from the Macnut rom as the base and then made my png and xml edits to revert it back to stock look. There shouldn't be any lockups or random reboots.
Also, these don't contain the accurate battery mod but you should be able to add the appropriate pngs and xml files for that mod that you are already using and be fine.
Hope this helps!

[Q] does gopu's circular battery flash work in streakdroid 1.9.0?

I'd like to have the gopu circular battery (with percentage) indicator, does it work on streakdroid 1.9.0?
If so, does the flashing do anything else to the ROM? or just replace the indicator?
u have to flash the version specific for 1.9
Only change the taskbar
Or you can go here and Cook your own
Cook your own gage, status bar, etc at Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen:
http://uot.dakra.lt/
Wish it was as simple as it was before to cook one for 1.9.0, but due to mulitple framework.apks being merged into one, will take some work on your part.
Will validate it is worth the time to correct your framework.apk for two reasons, if you know nothing about tweaking files you will learn something new and anything you make yourself is always just that much better.
Guide by (and credit too) alperin1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008695
Cooked my own with some guidance from alperin1, and it looks pretty damn good if I must say so myself.
that is sweet! thanks!

UOT Kitchen Help

Can anyone who is good with UOT Kitchen put together a walk-through? I was told it basically walks you through it, and to an extent it does, but it didnt work for me with my SystemUI and Framework-res from the UnNamed 1.3.1 ROM.
Sorry if this is a VERY Noob question but I'm having trouble with it.
I love the idea of being able to mod my own stuff without having to ask for everything. This is sort of asking to teach the horse to find water rather than giving it the water.
BTW this is the UOT kitchen I am referring to in case anyone is unfamiliar and wants to give it a go
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
What steps did you take?
I tend to upload the files first then proceed to adding the mods.
Did you pull the files off your phone or the zip file?
sent from the Dark Obelisk.
It was off my phone with ES File Explorer. I chose the mods i wanted to make then uploaded the files as the last step, sort of just going through the tabs in order left to right. Then I submitted it and waited, when it came up in the pick up section it said there was an error with it.
If someone can make a youtube video or something of them doing a successful mod? I think that can help, maybe also point out common mistakes or misconceptions people run into?
It seems like a very straight forward process but there seem to be several areas which can trip people up because its sort of a do-all tool for many devices and roms which don't necessarily interchange.
Edit:
I think I found my mistake, I've been playing with it and it seems I misplaced one file, I put twframework-res into the framework-res spot, i found framework-res and put that in the correct spot and the twframework-res into its spot.
Do I need to use all three files or will just framework-res do? I read in another post that you just need framework-res.apk for things like battery mods and other status bar items.
Edit2:
So I sort of got it to work, I did a custom battery and scroll bar but the overscroll glow didnt show up, not sure why.
There are a few screen shots of it and I'll up up the file if anyone likes it and wants to flash it, like I mentioned earlier I'm using UnNamed 1.3.1 so I'm assuming it should work with UnNamed ROMs. There is also a png of the battery, its the Jazzk one.
Normally just framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk are used for dropdown menu, animations, icons etc.
I'm guessing twframework-res.apk falls into the same thing, involving itself in everything like com.htc.resources.apk does for HTC Sense devices.
The kitchen said to include twframework-res.apk if you are using touchwiz, which from what I understand is what UnNamed uses.... but dont quote me on that haha
Unless your on an AOSP like CM7 then yes your using using touchwiz.

if unnamed uses touchwiz 4.5, which i think it may, the reg tw-framework-res.apk won't work. You have to be sure its the stock tw launcher if your going to use the tw-framework file for UOTKitchen.

it doesn't
From what I've learned playing around with decompiling the different system framework apks the touchwiz-res.apk is used when editing SystemUI.apk and Settings.apk which includes icons from the status bar and the system menus. The framework-res.apk contains the battery icon and things such as that.

[Q] Help me create a bottom status bar mod!

hello, so I've been searching and searching for a way to move the status bar down to the bottom so I can flick it up to open it. I've seen it before in cm7 roms and reloaded ics for older nightlies of cm9 roms. I'm wondering how they do it... it seems like it's some BIG secret, because no one seems to know anything about this type of mod or where to start to create it. It's built in to the cm7 roms, and Reloaded ICS doesn't work for newer cm9 roms.
So here's my request.
1. Someone point me in the right direction of where to find the right xml files and values to edit to recompile a rom with a bottom status bar!
or
2. Someone help me port Reloaded ICS to either newer ICS builds or maybe even JB!
or
3. Someone tell me some kind of good news about finding any way of moving the status bar down and reversing the pulldown so it slides up! cuz I'm really getting sick of searching for guidance on this issue...
I swear, it's the final and only thing I desire to change about my phone...
I love AOKP so if we could integrate this status bar trick/mod into an aokp build, that'd be the best rom ever!
again...why is this so hard? this search has gone on long enough, I'm really starting to get fed up with people creating roms just because the source is new... I'd like to see more customizations with current roms, like a bottom status bar option! why was this left in the dust in cm7? why not keep the mod going in cm9 or 10? bahhh!
I've started to decompile framework-res.apk and systemUI.apk but I don't understand what to change to make this happen, there are several places where in certain xmls it specifies the gravity or position of things that sound like they'd have to do with where the status bar is and how it acts, but I really don't know where to start...
Please help! It sucks knowing what I want, having the available technology to create it, but no guidance or any info to start with!
I have attached a couple pics that i made from screenshots i took while running Full throttle's and Licorice's Fuzion Rom
My background is my wonton symbol and the little android at the bottom is my app drawer, there are other icons/folders beside him but they're invisible, haha!
So if anyone could help me with creating a rom that looks like these pics, I'd be eternally grateful!!!
