That's the infamous placebo effect.
Put this
Code:
echo "YourScript_xyz_Name was here! @`date`" >>/data/initd.log
after the first line of all of your scripts. It should read somthing like
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
... check "/data/initd.log" after a reboot, what it is telling you.

There are four methods, which I'm currently aware off, how you can edit your scripts in init.d:
adb pull, edit, adb push;
browse with a file manager and edit it with the internal editor;
busybox vi YourScript_xyz_Name;
some fancy scripting with shell tools like sed, awk, ...
(The order is from simple to most advanced. ... )

A script's permission are set as soon as you flash them. Some are meant to launch at boot and some under specific conditions.

If the script not launch at boot, u can check on terminal that the script is not working

Change Owner settings?
This thread is great! I was also wondering which is the proper CHANGE OWNER settings for each script? Most of it are set to "Owner: root and Group: shell"?

SlaidFastMod is better than both.Its not okay if you flash both,SlaidFastMod is compatible with TurboBoost,so you can use them together but not the other scripts.
If you want to know the scripts currently working on your phone,go to init.d folder,it requires root access.If you can see the script in init.d folder,it works

I want to change the default keyboard of a rom, so when it is installed and booted it will show up when opening a text editor (so no configuration is needed).
So according to this I just place the keyboards .apk in system/app in the rom .zip and set its permissions (with the updater script). But I don't really thing this will change much..
correct me if I am wrong.

ok.. I will delete stock keyboard.
I was just hoping to still have both keyboard installed on the rom and just change the default one modifying any system text file. (as build.prop or any system .xml)
For example, when changing the the default system language you have to modify default.xml inside "system/customize/MNS" and you can still have the rest of the languages.
but nevermind.. thanks!

[Q] How to set permissions with updater-script?

Hey all,
I'm trying to do an updater-script that subtitutes some data, but i can't set the permissions to the files I replace, since I don't know how to. I've searched a little, but all threads I found say the same thing:
set_perm(UID, GID, mode, "pathtfile");

I know what UID and GID stand for, but I don't know what to put in the "mode" part. If anyone could help me
Also, I've seen that
run_program("sbin/chmod", blah)

will do the same task, but I don't know how to use it xD. I know how to use chmod though...
Sorry if this was posted in wrong section
Thanks in advance and I will obviously click Thanks button for anyone who helps me...
What permissions do you want it/them set to? I can knock out an updater-script for it. About to go to lunch so it won't be right away that I can get to it.

R: read permission
W: Write permission
X: Execute permission
First block for the owner, second for the group and third for others.
A short permission change is also possible with the following numbers:
4 = read
2 = write
1 = execute
0 = no permission
For example:
If the owner needs read and write, you add 4 and 2 ->6
Android has the same permission system like Linux distributions.
Help required
Hey guys just needed some help
In an updater-script
in set_perm ()
What permissions should i specify for a file located in /data/system folder say for eg: batterystats.bin
I would suggest using an app like root explorer to see what the permissions are, as in flash a ROM, navigate to the directory you're concerned with and then look to see what permissions are set as, even within data/system not all permissions are the same

so heres what is shown by root explorer
One of the file has rw-rw---- permission
Other one has rw- --- --- permissions
So could you please guide me what values to set in
set_perm()
Thanks in advance
Try
set_perm(0, 0, 660) location/nameoffile
And
set_perm (0, 0, 600) location/nameoffile

[P] [ICS] [HOWTO] Add Init.d support

Requirements:
1. Root
2. Root Explorer (or equivalent)
Instructions - manual:
- Copy files from 'system.zip' to SD-Card
- Make directory
/system/etc/init.d/
- Move files to:
/system/bin/sysint
/system/xbin/run-parts
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
/system/etc/init.d/99test
- Set permissions of all files to: rwxr-xr-x
- Install Busybox
- Run and update Busybox
- Restart
Instructions - CWM:
Not available for P
If everthings working you will get this file:
/data/local/tmp/init.d_log_test.txt
Now you can add any init.d scripts you like to folder /system/etc/init.d/ (set permission to rwxr-xr-x)
credits to:
- Doomlord for files
- seky0405 for confirm working on P
Scripts
SCRIPTS
--> Use only one set of scripts
Instructions - manual:
- Do a NANDROID backup first!
- Copy files from 'initd_xx' to SD-Card
- Move files to respective folders:
- Set permissions of all files to: rwxr-xr-x
- Run and update Busybox
- Restart
Instructions - CWM:
N.a.
Including:
- Fidelity
- Move Dalvik to Cache
- ...
Credits to:
- acervenky for scripts (pack2)
For further scripts refer to e.g. Corresponding U thread
There is a similar thread on this forum that I have tried many times but failed to succeed :-/
I hope this one does, I prefer using stock kernel.
Edit:
By the way you need to edit Add_InitD_Scripts_15Oct2012_pack2.zip, it will fail to be flashed in CWM because folder META-INF is not in the root dir of the zipped files, META-INF and System folders must be at the root of the zip file and not inside a folder
this is working for stock kernel and confirmed working by seky0405

Download Droid Manager (Link to thread in my signature)
Run Droid Manager (After you install it for sure )
it needs busybox installed. IF it's not installed users will get a prompt to install it.
after busybox is installed click the button "Start Droid Manager"
Unzip your the downloaded files from this thread, follow instructions in the screenshot, tell Droid Manager which files are the scripts
the rest is explained in the attachment of this comment.
I'm sorry I didn't write instructions since I usually find providing an image is easier than providing written steps
By the way current version of Droid Manager installs BusyBox 1.18
I will be adding version 1.20.2 in the next release which is due max tomorrow

Yups thats strange....
I know!!!
And I know, Sliding Xp Has init.d support, but when I c, there was no folder in the system/etc, and I've tried thru pimp my rom's verify before installing its own init.d support... Its says "Nopes, No Support"
Bt when I install pmr init.d support and then I verify, it says "Success"
So it means, for me, Sliding xp has no init.d support.... Strangeness always occurs in my case ONLY!!!
Now the thing is that, I have 38 scripts, and they all r 0 bits, so it means thet r corrupted and I shud delete them all and flash aroma version again...
What u say??

Ya.. It actualy make your GPU fruequwncy to get the Maximmum Power.. Because of the first India Kitkat release or the Genxxt Kitkat.. Doesn't have lag / fps that drop fixed.
So i made a init.d script... To make the GPU to get maximum power ..so we got the highest FPS that we can use...
I use it and not experience it yet.. If you get battery drain.. You can just remove it from init.d ..
Ok
Cheers

If you use init.d .. Search how to use init.d on stock kernel... If smanager... Just search how to run script auto on boot using smanager.. (And dont forget the SU)

If you use the First build of Kitkat from Samsung / the Rom that have Bug... You will see FPS Drop and lag in UI... So.. I try to edit and doing stuff on my device.. And i try to edit thing in the GPU fruequency.. And thing.. And... I make a Init.d script of it and it worked . lag gone like in Asphalt 8 that LAG So Muuchh...
So here.. Download my Script/Init.d from Link Below .. And if you already activated Init.d... Copy my script to /system/init.d/ .. And make permissions to 0777 Or rwxrwxrwx.
If you dont have init.d enabled.. Use SManager to run the script at Boot...(Dont forget to enable SU in the SManager)
Ok
Hope you get fixed too..

Did not see any difference. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, among many games, is still a pain in the head.
Ran AnTuTu Benchmark. No improvement.
Thanks anyway.
