remarks about xxlp6 and xxlpb custom roms - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried Remix 8.5 based on XXLP6and 8.6 based on XXLPB
LPB is in very good progress versus LP6
4 remarks
the security settings don't function totally ( send SMS, and others functions ) , and like phone locator pro switch off the phone when using it
when screnn off, it is necessary to reboot
I think that in V8.6 CF root LP6 replaces LPB for allowing the apps on SD
but radio FM disappears . with LP6, radio FM is good
Keyboard the typed letter is not the letter on the screen
quick panel lidroid is very good but I prefer JKAY settings
(with many possibilities )
Andyx rom 5.1 radio fm is ok but the choice of cf root pl6 stop recup of some apps by titanium. security settings are going well
so I wait a new version of ICS rom for leaving 2.3.6 version

GSMArenea posted that ICS will come officially in March to the S2 and Note
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_ii_and_galaxy_note_to_get_ics_in_march-news-3752.php
If you can wait a bit longer there will be an official base to make a stable ICS ROM and then XDA will have them to flash safely without any of the current problems.Until then I dont think its work it,for me anyway, flashing anything thats so unstable for daily use when in a month or two we will have fully stable ICS here.

[Q] Best Rom for S II

I just wanted to know whats the best stock rom for S II. I am happy with the phone's performance on 2.3.3. I want every features of the stock rom better audio quality, google talk with video calls and atlast tad better battery life.
Well, i think the battery life is depend on individual settings, like 3G,Wifi,sync etc.
For me is Leomar75 Revolution the best Rom at the moment. It comes with a kitchen app that allows you to install themes, roms and kernels. i tried Skyrom, Criskelo and lightning. look in the thread from Leomar and then decide for yourself.
2.3.4 is almost knocking on the door, so no benefit to discuss about 2.3.3, still am using the KF3 for a month now, very stable and the best IMO.
Criskelo V10, Lighning 5,Skyrom 4.0 and LeoMar75 2.4 are based on the latest firmware XXKG6 Gingerbread 2.3.4, LeoMar is the only with FullWipe (Apps and Settings cleared)
The next official Stock Firmware with 2.3.4 will be roll out soon
As the first rom i would use litening rom, no root needed and it can ne flashed via odin. Comes with root and cwm. At the moment i like leomar rom most, his kitchen app is really cool and easy to use, for kernels rom updates themes and other stuff. Nearly every day updated .
You have to try.
the best roms are:
1 - samsung stock
2 - CM
3 - AOSP ports
Other roms bring next to nothing (couple of menu item tweaks and sound tweaks) but bugs and a skin. You've to realize that all the claims they make about speed or battery have no substance, there is nothing that is done toward those goals and 99% of them don't actually know what they're doing at all. Sad state of affairs if you ask me.
I have tried almost all the ROMs out here in XDA, except CyanogenMod. Out of all the ROMs that I tried, MIUI is the best in terms of User Experience and User Interface and above all the super fantastic battery life. Go and give it a try, you wont be disappointed. This is the REAL ROM, the MIUI guy has taken customization totally to a different level.
If you're a fan of stock with some few subtle additions try Darky2 KG6 ROM. I applied the ROM (No wipe), then applied the odexer zip and then a JKay theme and app from the themes section. Looks sweet and works perfectly
Cm (Cyanogenmod) is a very good rom, but not at this time and not if you using Kies. I am waiting for stable Version and will test it too
LeoMar is a very good rom. The kitchen app is very useful if you want to flash kernels, themes and if there is a new update you can flash it thru kitchen app.
CM7 Ftw! And of course for a full AOSP eperience, you can try AdamG's Oxygen!
I will be sticking to CM7 though, for me it's the best, fully customizable and full of tweaks.
Thank for guiding
I beleive I should try no wipe roms at first then I should try the full-wipe roms.

[Q] What firmware do I currently have? Orange uk phone + best stock rom debranding???

Hi all, so I've rooted by phone using the amazing one click script and have managed to unlock the phone using sgs unlock tool but sgs2 could not find my unlock code.
Before attempting this I backed up my EFS folder.
Its been a while since i've flashed anything (a few years ago on my old old htc hero, had a desire hd since that which I didn't feel the need to flash at the time) and Now I have my SGS2 which came locked on the orange UK network.
Not amazed with the colour scheme and much preferred the blue battery etc of the virgin simfree sgs2 I had previously lol. It appears to have lots of orange bloatware present on the ROM aswell as annoying boot animation which i'd like to remove.
I do quite like the signal boost app idea although not sure how well it works as not had chance to try it!
I've added Go Launcher and a nice ICS theme on there to play with and a HTC sense theme but not overly impressed with go launcher and it seems to stop my search button function from functioning for some reason. I've got plenty of apps installed and configured although one thing that has annoyed me is being able to remove googlemail and gtalk from the social hub program as having google account sync on, I get 2 notifications about my emails.
*#1234# has provided me with the following details if anyone can decipher it. I'm actually using a t-mobile network card at present.
PDA: I9100PBVKI3
Phone: I9100PBVKI2
CSC: I9100PORAKI3
Build Info: Mon Sep 26 20:37:02 KST 2011
Whats the latest best stock ROM in peoples opinions? How do I remove orange bloatware via adb and is it possible to modify the orange boot screen? Alternatively... so I just wipe and flash a new stock simfree rom to start with?
Just looked at ICS Domincation with Soulbound, the theme looks very nice... whats the overall opinion on the ROM from majority of people? Should I switch from the stock rom optins possibly? .
ICS is a leaked buggy test build it has not been released by Samsung .
You have KI3 firmware android 2.3.5
2.3.6 is the next step up .
Stock firmware .

I would recommend flashing hyperdroid (personal favorite) v5 final if you want to use ics domination.
Most themes won't work on odexed roms like the totally stock Samsung ones. You would need a deodexed custom rom.
To freeze bloatware or remove it I would use titanium backup or Gemini app manager (this also manages auto runs)
When installing a new rom you will need to wipe data, so use titanium backup to backup user app data and apps only, SMS backup+ to backup sms's and sync your contacts to Google.
Your internal and external SD cards won't be wiped but always backup stuff you can't afford to lose.

[Q] how/what should I upgrade from my current setup Siyah4.1/ICS4.0.3

Hi,
I have been trying to look for answers in the forum but it is too confusing...My status is like this: I got the phone and installed Siyha 4, that was many months ago, if I look in About this is what I see;
- Android version: 4.0.3
- Baseband v: I9100BGLP2
- kernel v: [email protected]))
- Build number: IML74K.BGLP8
It is working, but it's showing random hangs, GPS does not work many times...and as I see there is even official support for JB, I would like to upgrade. But, I dont know what steps and even what I should upgrade. Not sure if Siyah I can just upgrade without issues, if then I can install any rom I want of top of it...etc. I would be really gratefull if somebody could tell me:
- what I need to upgrade
- in what order
then I will investigate and manage to do it myself. For example, I am after instructions like this (making them up as an example, no idea if this is correct):
1. upgrade to SiyahKernel S2-v6.0beta5
2. restart
3. install ROM cm-10.1.3-i9100.zip
I know there is no 'best' rom, just asking for advise for any JB (or later if there is stable one) rom that works well (no random crashes frquently, GPS working, I really need that).
thanks in advance!

1-to flash stock roms(tar extension) use odin or to flash custom roms (zip extention)then you need a custom recovery (eg ClockWorkMod).
2-if GPS is really matters to you, then dont flash cm10.1 is it have a known issue (gps is not working 99% of all time)see known issues for cm10.1:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Known_Issues_page_for_i9100
if you want stock rom(eg 4.1.2) look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487"
if you want custom rom with working gps use(in my opinion)neatrom lite:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569686
guide to flash with odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
always check the roms with md5sum check.
Hope it helps.
thanks!
OK, so let's say I'll go with stock rom (I'll remove most of samsung crap with RootDelete)...What about Siyah kernel I installed:
- is it replaced when installing stock rom?
- if not, can I update it to latest Siyah version? should I?

yes, because every rom has a kernel, but if you want Siyah kernel, after flashing the stock rom flash Siyah kernel again.if you want to update to stock jelly bean 4.1.2 then flash latest Siyah kernel.
Sorry for bad english.

[Q] Best SIII 4.4 ROM or BTU?

Hi All
Long story short, my phone broke and samsung fixed it under warrantee. They returned it with the vodaphone 4.3 flavor OS which was bloated to bursting point with all the crap-ware they add. So naturally the phone was dead slow, which prompted me to flash it to the 4.3 BTU. The phone is quite fast now, but the updates don't work so I'm stuck with those dreaded initial 4.3 software bugs, wifi connectivity & battery drain to name just 2.
I'd like to know if there are any decent & stable 4.4 ROMs available? I have tried CM11 earlier this year, but that didn't work to well, it was quite buggy.
I'd love to be able to install the 4.4.x BTU, but as far as I can tell, it hasn't been released (yet?).
Advice would be great.
Thanks!

I never expirienced any strange bugs like eith new 4.3 uodates, try using some great custom 4.3 roms out here, like archidroid, neatrom, arhd etc. Just search and try, combine it with a custom kernel and your phone will be reborned.
4.4.x ism't and won't be released for s3, because, well, samsung is $#&*, but you have note2 4.4 ports, like QS kitkat Archiport, and s5 themed like Blekota etc. But these 4.4 ports are having graphical glitches which occur for some, for some not, but as I see, Lord Boeffla updated his Boeffla kernel and in new updates graphical glitches are gone, battery life is much better and wifi direct and screen mirroring are working.
So if you want best stability go with custom 4.3, if you want to test out the kitkat experience which should be good now if combined with Boeffla kernel then go with some 4.4 port.
And don't forget, best rom threads are not allowed and will be closed by moderator, you should try what xda world has to offer and then decide.

How do I load a custom kernel? I've only ever flashed with Odin and then that was just the ROM.
Just as a matter of interest, 4.4 has been released for the S3 on certain carriers.
Flash the kernel through your custom recovery.
Only the versions of the s3 which have 2gb of ram have kitkat..other versions do not including the international version

Just as Pulseuser mentioned, 4.4 is released only for i9305 LTE variant of s3.
About custom kernel, the easiest method is to root your phone using cf-autoroot, just google cf auto root and download the .tar.md5 for Odin for i9300 S3. Then when your phone is rooted download ROM Manager from playstore and install Clockwork Mod recovery, then reboot to the recovery via rom manager app and choose install zip from sdcard, fin your custom kernel/rom or whatever you want to flash and then tap yes and reboot, but first copy your custom kernel/rom on sdcard.
It is very easy, you even have tutorials on youtube on how to flash something via CWM recovery.

1st ROM to install?

Hi.
My S3 is bogging down, and was going to factory wipe it. But because I've had it over a year now, I feel like putting a new ROM.
I still need to use things like Gmail & Navigation.
Can someone point me to the right direction for a simple install for something that is better than the stock 4.1.2 i'm running.
And as I rooted this last year with the video tutorial posted on here, It was on a previous PC which I don't have so can't remember if it was Odin that I used (If this makes any difference)
Many Thanks
and happy new year!
Archidroid 3.0.2 if you want smoothness and stock android interface.
But beware of bad camera and graphic glitches.
Archidroid 1.7.18 + latest archi kernel if you want not so smooth but still better experience.
It's a Touchwizz ROM but it has a lot of customisability options during install.
My favourite JellyBean 4.3 ROM is Imperium :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37656328&postcount=2
Loads of options to customise through Aroma installer and was always solid and reliable for me.
I am currently rocking KitKat with QS-i9300-KK v3.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-qs-i9300-kk-t2755841
which is looking good and solid as a daily driver so far (I am using it with Arter97's kernel v4 beta 2 which fixes the power-off charging bug where the phone will switch on when plugged in to charge - the latest Boeffla kernel also now fixes this issue)
Both of the above are stock ROM based.
