[Q] Bluetooth data transfer, Webtop, OTA.. couple of questions - Motorola Droid RAZR

Hi everyone,
I noticed my razr seems a bit picky about what can be sent or received via bluetooth:
i wanted to send a .apk to a friend of mine but the transfer via screen did not show bluetooth
as an option and when my friend tried to send me a .bin file but my phone didn't even asked to
accept, his just showed an abort. i also tried sending with another explorer, but it just called the
same transfer-options window. he then tried to send a photo which worked just fine.
I noticed similar behaviour in webtop, don't quite remember the filetype, but the explorer just declined with "unknown filetype".
Is there an easy workaround for this behaviour? i am already rooted, so playing with configs wouldn't
be a problem, don't really like installing all kinds off aps for small tasks.
Then there's webtop.( i am using it with a 8€ hdmi cable of amazon nebtop and the logitech ps3
bluetooth keyboard with touchpad just fyi)
firefox does not seem to have a flash 10 plugin, which means that i can open some flash-based content on the
phone-browser but not in webtop! is there a way around that?
Also, i don't really get the goggledocs login feature, as it just seems to be downloading my docs but then
still opens them in firefox, which quite frankly is too slow.
Seeing the various webtop-hacks on this board i get the urge to try them but i am expecting the effort
to go wasted once an OTA comes around. (?)
regarding OTA, i am in germany on an unbranded razr and have not yet received the first one. as i said,
i am rooted and have course frozen some bloatware. while i have read this prevents me from installing an update,
would i still be notified?
well back to the possibilities the hdmi port gives us: when using my bt keyboard in mirror mode , android functions are scattered all over the board,
[home] does home, [esc] does back and the menu button for blueray works as the menu button, i have not yet found a search button,
it just starts searching when i start typing.
while this is pretty logical, i could use [home] for its traditional purpose now and then. where would i have to fiddle around to rebind keys?
does every keyboard send the same buttonpresscodes or would i have to find those first (probably via some kind of shell?)
i think those are all my questions for now, some insight would really be apreciated.
best regards

hey doenis,
did you ever tried to rename the files? some files seemed to be not "sendable" in old OS's like Symbian S60v5. Maybe it'S still in Android?
And the WebTop... Tried another browser? Not sure, but maybe Opera will support? i've never tried this, but maybe that's the way?
The keyboard... It's out of my knowledge, but would it be logical that every keyboard is sending another keydown argument for the same key? sound not logical for me... maybe there'S some config file? but i would be careful by changing keyboard settings in configuration files...
greeting,
Sh4itan

the root fileexplorer as part of the rom-toolbox by jrummy16 calls a send-to window including all options
on unknown filetypes, where the stock explorer would say ~"action can not be carried out by any programm"
(when pressing share) so that's working now.
using an other browser: thats kind of the problem, the way i get it webtop is pretty closed down, that's
why i'm thinking about applying one of the hacks around here.
gruesse zurueck

ok today root explorer does not offer bluetooth transfer for any filetype and i noticed
that even the gmail client won't offer downloading several filetypes, in this
case .zip and .gz, which my milestone would accept without any problems.
i need some help here people.

You may have flash problems in webtop regardless of hack status or which browser you use. Flash is not open source. Adobe would need to compile flash 10 for ARM processors for a plugin to work. I do not believe that they have and (since they are abandoning mobile devices) I don't believe they will.
Any software that you would want to run on a hacked webtop environment would need to be compiled for ARM. With open source stuff, you can always compile it yourself. With closed source stuff you are at the mercy of the software's developers and unlikely to find much that will work.
Using the Ubuntu hack should make other opensource office suites available to you, but the likelihood of them being a simple point and click install is low.

I have not noticed any problems with the Firefox browser on my lapdock. I am able to view all flash content just fine. Don't really know what the problem might be there.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

theres some flash-content running, probably most of it, so i guess the important things i tried use flash 11, too bad
so did anybody else notice the ignorance regarding several filetypes?
the other issues are probably solvable with some research, but any input
will still be appreciated.

Some new Athena user questions

Hey everyone,
I've been using a WM device for 2 years, a good and old KJAM and now the X7500. As you may have seen in my previous post, I'm going to use the X7500 as a UMPC together with my KJAM. I don't plan to ditch the KJAM, as I'm going to keep using it as my PDA and phone. The main purposes of the X7500 would be browsing (WIFI or HSDPA), watching movies, gaming and maybe some document editing.
I have to say, that I got lost trying searching and reading posts around here, and there seem to be a lot of confusion about many things, so I'm gonna ask some questions that I couldn't find one straight updated answer for. I know that these questions have been asked a lot of times, but as I said, there wasn't any clear answer for them (hopefully there is now).
1. I need a good, fast and reliable WM6/WM6.1 ROM. I don't need many features, just simple and as fast as possible. What do u recommend? By the way, if I flash another ROM will it change my device ID? I have bought a program that is registered to that specific device, and by changing the ID that program won't work.
2. BT mouse. how good does it work with the Athena? Will it slow down the system? Will it work with any program (esp. browsers)? How about connecting a USB mouse through the 4-in-1 cable, would it work?
3. Browser. We have a great device, amazing screen but I feel that no browser is good enough for it. I don't want anything fancy, but I want it to be fast and support tabbed browsing. Opera mini is fast enough, but it lacks an option to browse with XX% zoom out permanently like Opera, Netfront or even IE. All of the above are pretty good by the way, but they are simply too slow. Actually, I don't get that. Why are they so slow browsing with WIFI or 3.5G? Opera mini does the job faster, my desktop with the same connection does it faster, what's causing their lag? I found out that browsing through my desktop with LOGMEIN from the X7500 is even faster (but annoying).
Any browser that will hit the spot? Any way to speed things up?
4. Task manager. I want a program that will give me the multi-tasking capability of a desktop PC without slowing down the device. basically I need instant access to all the open programs in the same way the taskbar works on Windows. If the program will give me the option to choose whether to minimize or close a window, it would be better.
5. Printer. Can I plug a USB printer, or can I use only network/BT printers with the device?
6. Any other tips of-course would me most welcomed.
I hope you had the patience to read all of those questions, and maybe even more patience to answer them. Thanks a lot to everyone around here....
best rom? athena project 3. cannot be beaten. ther's a rule on here where theres no posting of roms allowed except project kitchen. This rom is made by people working all day on it, and a new version is released like every 3 months. because thats how long it takes to make it perfect. Im fairly sure the new one is being released this week. but dont quote me on that.
You named all the browsers anyone would suggest, so I cant really recommend anything.
For taskbar id say use wisbar if you need loads of features and skinnable taskbar along with cascading start menu like real windows, or wktask for just sortof tabbed taskbar. wktask is embedded into the rom I mentioned.
hope this helps

First of all, thanks a lot for your comment. I don't really understand what you mean by no ROM postings allowed around here. If I want a lighter ROM than Athena Project, and afraid to cook myself one, I'm out of luck? nobody can even publish their cooked versions of the AP ROMs?
There is no rule like that at all.
If you decide to cook a ROM, feel free to post it. The Athena Project do some great work, but they don't own these public forums.
i dont want to argue about it , but if that's the case, then why is there only one cooked rom avalable? plus check the sticky called proj ct kitchen to see where i got the impression that you cant.

1) I will suggest PK3.0 as the fastest IMHO, we are waiting the new WM6.1 (4.0 release) The .NET re-designed will improve the speed as is happening in many other ROMs. We are waiting also the results of the Athena Team tuning: wait the WM6.1 may be in the next week.
I have increased the speed using MEMMAID, (www.dinarsoft.com) as mantainance and optimizzation tool. The rom's speed depends only from chef choices for the first start but later is related to many other things. Manteinance is the best way to keep it fast
1b) Device ID changed? may be not, we will see...
2) I use a wired optical mouse and it works just as is supposed to do
3) opera 9.5 is fast, the beta is out and it is finger friendly and fast . Netfront 3.5 is fast too, I chose Opera
4) wktask is part of PK rom, you can download it here http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html and it does exactly what you need
5) Yes, BT or network, having jetcet print
ROM cooking is free and WELCOMED here!

There are a couple of others floating around if you search hard enough.
But the Athena Project roms are so good, everyone seems to use them.

This is the 6.1 porting from Kaiser I think.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363542
I think a lot of the browser slowness is down to windows mobile itself. Not sure why. Even the Opera Mini Java midlet is faster on the Symbian OS than on Windows Mobile. Netfront and Opera 9.5 are big improvements on what was available last year though, and Opera will no doubt have a few tweaks before its official release. No Flash or Java add-ons though still
Apparently someone has already managed to play youtube with Opera. Not sure if it is true as he has not responded to request for the cab file yet.
edit: This gentleman gave an update. He had earlier managed to make it work by editing the axobjects.ini file to effect the following changes:

He had posted some screen capture of his earlier success, but found that subsequently it stopped working mysteriously. Anyway, he also said that he is sure when FL3 (instead of Flash player 7) is avaialble this would work.
The trouble is, will adobe release a FL3 for winmo platform...
Edit:
The above works. Make sure you have installed flash player 7 and make the above edit to the ini file.

It's very jerky though. Still better off with the flash plugin. There's an application called EMTube on Symbian devices, would be nice to see it on winmo as it allows access to all the youtube Videos at high quality without loading up the browser at all. There's the Vtap application but that always seemed a bit stodgy to me.
On the subject of Fl3.0 you may have a long wait yet - it's still only been integrated into the N95 8gb, don't know what Adobe are playing at with the rollout for this - it was released as a developers' testing package over five months ago, at this rate someone's going to develop a workaround that screws them over: I HOPE AND PRAY!
That's why there was no excitement in my post. It's not really watchable.
I would still prefer to use PIE with TCPMP to download it first then watch it.
Hello,
I have been using the HTC WM6 ROM HERE and its been great. I wanted a basic ROM with no whistles and bows to get used to the device. Mine had the T-Mobile ROM on, nothing wrong with it but the phone dialer and theme are awful in my view. I tried both opera and net 3.5 and both show great promise, but they aren't ready yet. I ended up just getting one of the IE addon's that hanango do, fine for now. interesting to hear about the things you can use through the USB port. Ive been using the universal and stuff like that doesn't work on it. I think I need to go back and read up more!
Take care

[Q] Aria requirements.

I am looking for a Smartphone with a particular form factor, the form factor is shared by the P3600, the Aria & the HD Mini. I have the 3600 but it is time to upgrade
I’ll be honest I’d rather get a HD Mini than an Aria, but I want to stick with Tel$tra and Next G is on 850 Mhtz,
So Aria it is.
Now looking at the ups and downs of this proposition it looks like it will do everything I want out of the box (Give or take a bit) the only concern is the ability to run apps from the SD which doesn’t appear to be available until upgrading to 2.2.
If I want the phone unlocked and free to do as I say, I obviously can’t go downloading a carrier specific Rom, so need either a factory default or Home baked number.
So… What Android 2.2 ROM is available that is as close to the Unlocked factory default as possible? Or can you download the Unlocked Factory Default from HTC direct (I have tried and failed)
You're looking for gene Poole's liberated 2.2.2 or attn1 fr008.

You want Gene Poole's Liberated 2.2.2
Also, how and where are you getting your phone?
Most of us (it seems) in this forum got our phones when they were running 2.1 and we were able to easily root them with unrevoked. People who have gotten the Gratia or warranty replacements recently with the official 2.2 system in place have not been able to root.

Thanks for that mtnlion. I thought this was my last hurdle but then I considered the implications of syncing outlook contacts and calendars… It appears that you need a third part application to do that. FFS why can’t someone port WM6.5 to the Aria HW? It would make life so much easier.
Is it time for me to start learning to cook ROMs?
Thanks for the update stoneship. So it isn’t all as easy as it seems on the surface. SOD…
Maybe I just have to cross my fingers and hope that HTC keeps supporting the small form factor and wait for there next round of releases, and hope something fits.
I haven't used it in quite awhile but I'm pretty sure the HTC sync software will sync outlook and calendar when you plug in your phone.and there are apps on the market also.

Thanks again mtnlion, but this still leaves me with the issue highlighted by stone ship that some systems won’t let you root break them and put on non official ROM images. The Aria as a solution is so close I can taste it… But I am just not confident it is going to be without issues.
Ahhh Screw it… I have bought one… How much trouble can it be???
Well... after rereading your post it seems that you may not be aware of this.
The phone you purchased will most likely (if new) come with software preinstalled from the factory that will prohibit you from rooting it via software methods.
You will need to send the phone to someone else to downgrade it for you. Then you can root it and install the software above.
Hope that made sense, I'm running on fumes... :-/

Cross your fingers that you got one with 2.1 on it so you can root it easily. If not I can point you to someone who can s-off it for you.
The Aria is a great little phone and once you get things sorted out I think you will find you can do what you need with it. Syncing outlook contacts and calendars should not be an issue either through activesync or HTC sync regardless of official or cooked rom.
You say Active sync or HTC sync??? Does that mean that M$ Active sync can sync with an Android device? That would be weird.
The device is advertised as unlocked and 2.1 As long as it is unlocked then I am good even if it is 2.2 I don’t expect to need it rooted in the immediate term, though I do expect I am going to have to hack around a little to get the Audio on my Cardo Scala headset sorted (it doesn’t support A2DP) so I may be eating those words in short order.
Though in the words of the great tosser Jeremy Clarkson… “How Hard can it be?”
Seeing I am asking these questions I may as well outline the Bluetooth issue I have and see if any one can shed any light on the Android solution.
As I said in my previous post my Bluetooth headset doesn’t support A2DP, so to get music playing on it (or get GPS spoken directions) I need to perform a couple of hacks
The first one is to combine the stereo channels so on my Windows mobile I do this by applying the following to the registry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"UseJointStereo"=dword:00000001
The second (And more important) is to change the Bluetooth channel behavior which is done by making the voice command attribute do nothing (remove the path of the executable) and keeping the channel open for an indefinite amount of time (VoiceCmdDuration being a large number)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand]
"LaunchApEnable"=dWord:1
"VoiceCmdDuration"=dWord:15180
So… In Android, what files do I need to tweak, and how do I need to tweak them to achieve the same results?
Thanks
Well I now have my aria in my greasy little hands, and for better or worse… It has 2.2 loaded.
Starting to sort my way through the maze of setup now…
Patience.

The Limitations of Android are really annoying. (Unrooted)
I can’t Leave the device Synchronizing and also copy files back and forth (I Can in WM5)
I can’t copy files directly to the device only to the SD Card (I Can in WM5)
I can’t access the SD card from the device while I am accessing it from the PC (I Can in WM5)
I can’t edit configuration files to alter how it interacts with things such as Bluetooth (I Can in WM5)
I can’t store resources such as ringtones on the device, only on the SD card (I Can in WM5)
I can’t control the phone from my desktop computer such as MyMobiler (I Can in WM5)
And these are just the limitations I have found in 3 days when comparing it to a 6 year old Operating system.
And because it came pre installed with 2.2 I can’t root it…
It really appears that if it isn’t rooted it is pretty F#$ked.
Android is not really designed to be synchronized over USB. Yes, you can do it, and HTC makes a program for it specifically, but I suggest abandoning that habit and getting used to wireless syncing instead. The only reason I ever connect my phone to a computer is to copy a file, and even then I sometimes choose to do it with Dropbox instead, or send the link to the phone through ChromeToPhone.
Even if you don't want to use Google Calendar/Contacts as your primary calendar/contacts manager, you should be able to set up Outlook on your computer to synchronize with them. I don't personally use Outlook so I can't say what the best method for doing this is, but perhaps someone else can chime in with a suggestion.
As for the SD card, I don't think there is really any significant disadvantage to storing files on the SD card. Assuming you just leave your SD card in the phone, what's the difference? Some Android phones do have internal memory you can use for copying files to though.
As for the bluetooth issue, yes, that sucks. Good luck finding a solution for that if one exists.
Well An Update…
My Blutooth issues are managed by this app
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bedoig.BTmono_Donate&feature=search_result
It is O.K. But does have a nasty habit of rebooting the device if you don’t shut it down properly before disconnecting the bluetooth connection.
It still doesn’t allow me to initiate actions from the headset other than picking up calls, but at the end of the day this is all I require.
After my torrent of negatives I have found a few starters for what Android is doing better…
When you mount the SD card to the computer it is fully available, you can read & edit files not just copy to and from (I Can’t in WM5)
Once you throw a file manager on the device it browses UNC paths well
Though It does appear I am getting some really weird $hit happening with my Outlook calendars.
And I have noted that I can’t have different screen timeout behavior dependent on weather it is plugged in or not.
If I could have the best of WM, and the best of Droid, I would be a happy little camper.

[Q] Alternative to Androidscreencast PC to Android USB control

Hey there XDA Community,
I open this new question thread, because similar ones are not as specific and/ or posted in sub-forums for phones. However, Androidscreencast is a cross-phone program.
Androidscreencast is a java programm that allows you to connect to your Android phone through an USB connection. I think you need ADB and root access for this.
I am searching for something like this that also supports German charakters like umlaute (ä, ö, ü).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
The app "My Phone Explorer" is said to be able to do this, although I didn't try it.
http://mymobiler.com/ also offers this Feature and works pretty well, after a few setting changes and restarts of the executable, also with umlauts.
However, I went back to Androidscreencast since it does not need an app and I realized it's convenient enough to use my phone for everything but typing with my finger and it's not so bad that I can't have umlauts.

I want to update to 4.0.25 so i can use it from my phone with archos remote, but it currently run with blue rom and cant update by it self. Also the hdmi is not working in recovery and i cant see.

Hi There,
Grab the surdu rooted update from here
You can flash the sde zImage and initramfs.cpio. using an archos tool called kd_flasher, just push the zImage and initramfs.cpio.lzo to the device, doesn't really matter where, /data/local/ is as good as any, Then push archos.ext4.update from (Stock_Root_4.0.25) on to your device, then reboot into sde , something like this should sort you out
Code:
adb push zImage /data/local/zImage
adb push initramfs.cpio.lzo /data/local/initramfs.cpio.lzo
adb push archos.ext4.update mnt/storage/
adb shell kd_flasher -i/data/local/initramfs.cpio.lzo -k/data/local/zImage
adb shell reboot_into sde
Hope that help you out

Man, I've can't believe I didn't clock this app sooner, I only just look at what it does, my touch screen has been fooked for months as well, It's one of the few thing about Archos that has made happy. I was looking in play around with USB/IP adb virtual mouse drivers, Sill will. It's nice to see they finally Got Something right!
Thanks a lot for the help, i ll try this and post how it went in the next days.
Yes after 4.0.24 update it says that you can use your phone as a touchpad that sounds very interesting. Also i saw lots of updates at the video app of archos that is the only one that plays fine through hdmi.

Yes, I'm in a quandry now with it, I'm porting CWM and stuff and probably going with a 4.2 from the Omapzoom sources, Archos G9's are based heavily on the Blaze Development Platform.
It's not overly difficult to write my own app to do that although I suck and hate doing UI work and the archos did feel alright to use on the HTC Sensation. I already tore apart the Client APK from my HTC, It's pretty heafty but that isn't what I need anyway. It's just a case of Implementing the protocol on the custom roms. Considering I control both ends of the conversation you just gotta tell.
Piece of Cake Really..... I'll add it to the list
You're rooted currently right? Have you tried changing your system properties the pretend to be a 4.0.24 rom....It probably won't work because I think Archos will is reliant on the input classes of the android framework. which is wrapped in the a script in /system/bin/input. On ICS the commands available are as follows
usage:
input text <string> : this will "type" a string to the focused android ui window
input keyevent <event_code> : an number between 0-255 which represent either keyboard keys, both soft and hard buttons as well as custom assigned things
I currently make heavy use this of it with my custom adb. Which is how I mae inly work with it . Although I given them some nice wrappers because I'm a lazy bastard. Anyways input in jellybean add a couple of extra
usage:
input text <string>
input keyevent <key code number or name>
input tap <x> <y>
input swipe <x1> <y1> <x2> <y2>
I played with tap and swipe earlier, on a Galaxy Tab I put 4.1.2 on. they work pretty nicely. Quick Left and Right Swipe can be done with just add a sign to the number, The only thing missing then is an easy way to do long presses. It possible the send them using /dev/input codes, I've not got round to playing with that, I've not had an overwhelm need to do it as I always have a otg cable with a mouse to hand.
Ah F**k it, I'll get wireshark on it later and backport whatever the after.
Apologises for the technical mind dump, I just got myself started. at least you know there more than what archos provide re remote controlling.
I didn't quite understand that big post of yours but your solution worked perfectly and now my g9 is update to 4.0.25
Archos remote touchpad is a little bit difficult to use but it's functional. Now i move on to solve the next 2 problems ,network speed for streaming movies from my data server and force screen to be off because the screen is white all the time and it is a little bit irritating
But these are not device specific so i believe mr Google will help me
Thank you very much again!!!

Haha, Welcome to the inside of my mind....I've been affectted by these robots.
To turn off the display on the device do some more command line trickery
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/omapdss/display0/enabled
or
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/lcd-backlight/brightness
Both achieve the same result, It's been a while since I worried about network speeds but generally I try an be wired in the route either directly or through home plugs, I know some of the usb etherports are cheap and work with out much hassle of the G9 On wireless I try to be on fairly channel away from other people ( not always possible ) and Networking said to try to use even channels, Some to do with Electrical and thing I don't fully care to understand yet

X96H PRO TV Box Cannot Press Enter on Keyboards And Cannot Get r/w Access?

I just bought the X96H PRO TV Box a all winner H603 chipset 32gb rom 4gb ram quad core, running android pie 9.0. It's native root without read/write access I never knew that root could exist no read/write access in the first place? Any way, I need to find out how to get read and write tried the permission changes in folders and files namely the Genric.kl file and subsequent folders. The issue is I cannot press enter on a keyboard not the built in virtual keyboard or a USB keyboard wired or wireless in both chrome and or Google play store apps nor brave browser either. Hence this is one big paragraph lol as can't hit enter key and go to a new paragraph how ridiculously idiotic a flaw to add to a firmware surely the decade and then some years should have given the dev an idea to include enter as key option 28 in Genric.kl but no he put D_PAD ENTER instead so I am stuck now no full root to modify it, I have no experience modding stuff I struggle to learn. However can reflash devices extremely well and hard mod but this has got me stumped now, I don't want to void the warranty it's not a day old I don't want to return it either, I tried USB keyboard helper tried remapping it to 28 enter and fails well works in apps bar play store and chrome/brave browsers. Can someone maybe help me out please get the system read and write everything, there is another interesting option to input hdmi on this device again it comes with a flaw it's controlled via the remote only and designated as a source button with no visible os around it sort of dictating it could be simply for passing hdmi sources through it and not to record with which sort of seems gimmicky and a clever sort of you buy it on the assumption it records you bought it for good thing I think it is, if anyone could also shed light how I might records this please let me know.
