When I first saw the commercial I thought it was funny, a little cheesy, but I liked it. Yet at the same time I don't think that it advertised the device well. Immediately after the commercial was aired, there were alot of negative comments on twitter in regards to the s-pen. People were confused and assumed the device required the s-pen for all functions. Even reading the comments on the YouTube video for the commercial and various blogs, alot of people assume the device is taking a step back by offering the stylus -- since that's what the commercial seemed to focus on unfortunately.
And as funny as it is to see butthurt ifools cry about Samsung bashing them, it might not have been the best move by them. The commercial starts by insulting apple fanboys/girls because they are in line waiting for the iphone, yet tells them to basically get in line for the note. I'm all for apple bashing but I think it could have atleast been done in a better manner.
So Samsung has now sort of dug a hole for themselves with the Gnote I think. People in the U.S. now think it requires a stylus and others who don't favor Samsung devices hate them more.

They should have started the commercial out by hammering in how great the screen size is... get people hooked on media, video chat, browsing, and then... BOOM. OH LOOK IT ALSO HAS A PEN IN THIS ****. oh daaaamn. Let it be a bonus feature to the average smart phone user, while still allowing the business man or note taker to interpret the pen as the main selling point.
yup i must say i agree with both of your comments regarding the commercial.
esp for a super bowl ad...it should've been much better

I'm looking forward to using my note along side my ipad2 personally. They both fit different roles imo and I don't care what anyone thinks about either device when I use them in public.

+2.. This device will be around for a long time to come... relax... There's a website for the Note on Samsungs site w/ extra videos and specs, why spend $$ twice on the something they already have on their site? Instead why not have a hoopla commercial that waves the flag then have ppl search for it. It worked perfectly for the Acura NSX commercial, the server was temporarily shutdown from all the searches ppl did after the commercial..
Just to clarify: I don't really mind what other users care to think, but you can't help but feel that Samsung could have done a better job with the TV spot. This doesn't change MY perspective of the device, but it still concerns me to a point since i would like to see the device succeed obviously because I want there to be more iterations of the Gnote, and for other manufacturers to get involved in "phablet" marketspace. And if this commercial happens to somehow deteriorate that marketspace in some fashion, I am concerned.

i am not a marketer (?) at all but Samsung was probably just trying to stir the emotions to draw people into their website or the AT&T store to check em out further. Then they can dig into the techy details that are typical of many Android users...i.e how fast is it, what's the processor, is it gorilla glass, how much does it weigh, is it ICS, etc. etc.

No way. The gs3 wont be coming to ATT probably until at least late summer seeing as the international version hasn't even been released, let alone announced. Plus, it most definitely won't have a 5.3 inch screen, which I am really looking forward to, and won't have the s pen either most likely. Once I get my note it will be hard for any manufacturer to get me to upgrade unless it is a successor to the note from Samsung.

We will be lucky if we see the s3 by the end of the year. It was quite awhile between the release of the s2 int. and the AT&T version so I would assume it would be close to the same for the s3.

Cool thanks for the heads up!
If I worked for Samsung's advertising department...
Compact car and conversion van jump off facing ramps, crash into each other, and mid-sized luxury SUV comes flying out of the fireball.
Ultralight plane flies into the back of a jumbo military cargo jet with the rear ramp down - camera zooms out from the cargo hold to show a Gulfstream business jet flying off into the sunset.
Someone holding a handheld TV walks into a movie theater, sits down, camera rotates 360 degrees and now it's a Samsung 55" flatscreen in a home theater room.
Will Smith walking down a busy NY sidewalk (in his MIB suit) looking at his Galaxy S II crashes into Jada sitting at an outdoor cafe reading something on her Galaxy Tab - next shot shows Jaden getting up from the ground, slipping his Galaxy Note LTE into his pocket, and doing some sort of Kung Fu move from Karate Kid.
Fade to black with the words: Your World Delivers (with AT&T logo, of course) the Best of Both Worlds! Samsung Galaxy Note LTE!
Van Halen's "Best of Both Worlds" playing throughout.

All that negative talk about the note while admitting:
"The Note hasn’t been released yet, and I haven’t tried it out"
He gives himself away in the last portion of his biased rant:
But I will point out that the iPhone remains, by far, the best-selling smartphone in the world, and it has never deviated from its original dimensions. It’s time for Apple’s competitors to take a lesson from this success and realize that bigger isn’t necessarily better and that a phone’s utility decreases as its screen inflates.

Right, and when the iPhone finally gets a screen size upgrade all these trolls will talk about how great the new size is, how it doesn't feel bulking with little baby hands, how it's not at all awkward to hold up against your head. Christ, they probably shoot a premature load when they find out their new 8" tablet makes phone calls.
I'm currently an iPhone user. Have been since the day they came out, but that will be changing once FedEx knocks on my door on Friday (tomorrow would be even better). I have always loved my iPhone. It has been nearly perfect for what I've needed it to do except in one specific area: Screen size. Sure, I could have made the jump to a 4.x" Android phone but there weren't any phones of that size that I was interested in, and with the push to 4G/LTE there were even less Android devices I was personally felt were captivating to me. What really pushed my decision to leave the iPhone was the release (or the announcement I should say) of the iPhone 4s. Wow! What a disappointment. I didn't find the move from the 3g to the 3gs to be all that spectacular and I certainly wasn't overly awestruck by Siri. Sure, there was some increase in performance but there were no improvements in the area where I wanted it, the screen size. 5.3' is big. There is no doubt about that, but I have big hands, and as much as I've enjoyed each and every iPhone I've ever owned I have always had a problem fumbling around with the virtual keyboard, even when in landscape. My kids on the other hand, they love their iPhones. They use the crap out of them for what they do, and they love Siri. And you know what, that's fine too...
I can't stand how 99% of the reviews for other phone find need to even mention the iPhone. Review the phone your reviewing and stop swinging from apple's nut sack like Tarzan its pathetic to say the least...

It's funny how in this piece Farjad writes that "When you go back to a normal phone after using something so large, you wonder what on earth you were thinking." While Engadget says "After a few hours with the Note you'll very quickly become accustomed to the size, and once you have you won't want to go back."
I don't see how he can justify that the utility of a phone diminishes as it's screen size increases. So long as it is pocketable, and increase in screen size will always increase utility. More screen real estate means more room for your fingers, more room for enjoying media, less zooming, and much less eye strain. I absolutely despise anybody that brags about the fackin 'retina display'. At 3.5", holding the phone a foot away or more makes small text unreadable anyways. Yes, our ppi is slightly lower at 285 I believe, but hell, you can at least read text from a foot away. Also, if you move an iphone close enoygh to make the screen appear the same size as the note, or the note far enough away to seem the same size as the iphone, guess what? The note has higher resolution. Bam. Some people are just too stupid and ignorant to accept the fact that the note destroys the need to carry a phone and a tablet. Yes, readability on an iPad is probably easier with the large display, but it's still an extra device that you have to carry, and it really cannot be held comfortably for extended periods of time anyways due to its weight to size ratio. The note will have a great weight to size ratio, making enjoying media for extended periods of time rival that of the lightweight kindles and nooks. Plus it makes calls. It's sad when people are so loyal to a brand that they fail to realize that other brands make superior products. I would take my current infuse or my old cappy over an iPhone any day of the week. And my old cappy is two years old.
The other thing that apple lovers fail to realize is that fragmentation isn't a completely bad thing. It gives you options. You have phones from the size of the HTC aria or xperia mini all the way up to the infuse, galaxy nexus and note, and everywhere in between. You can choose the device that suits your needs best, and aren't locked to a single size, incrementally update phone.
Also, I hate when apple fans bash the rate that new android phones are released. That hate is fackin stupid. It allows you to get the latest and greatest smartphone whenever you are available to upgrade, not just once a year. It also promotes competition that has driven the quality and technology of android devices at an unbelievable pace. Yes, your phone will not be the latest and greatest shortly after you purchase it, but you still have a top of the line phone that is every bit as good, if not better in my opinion, than an iPhone. Fragmentation pushes manufacturers to try new things that will bring great phones to the market much faster than one phone per year. I guarantee that if apple made multiple versions and screen sizes of the iPhone that their market share would not increase. Instead, they would have fewer people per each device, with roughly the same number of people.
People like having choices, and until apple realizes that, iOS will forever be behind android.

Love this comment. Completely agree. It seems nearly impossible yo read a phone review without mention of an iPhone. And why?!!
Constant mention of it is probably the only thing that keeps the iPhone relevant (in any way that it is). Is apple paying all these people!? Jeebus! iPhone is crap compared to even my 2yr old Evo 4g. And I've got ICS on my Evo lol. Would apple ever ALLOW THAT? Hell NO.
Hey, "reviewers", listen carefully,...there is no need to mention iPhone unless you are REVIEWING an iPhone (once a year). Try that, and see what happens to apples market share. I guarantee it would stagnate. You currently are just providing free, unwarranted, press for apple. And looking a fool

While I agree that it is stupid for so many reviewers to talk about the iPhone, that is not "the only thing that keeps the iPhone relevant." Millions of people have and will continue to buy iPhones even if new Android phones are not compared to the iPhone in reviews. The reasons the iPhone is popular are legion, from people who are clueless, to Apple cultists, to people who legitimately prefer the feel of iOS to other mobile options. The clueless people are the only people who might be influenced by lack of iPhone mention in reviews, but I sincerely doubt that many of them have ever read a review of Android device online.
They gave he galaxy note a 2/5 stars slamming it for its size then complaining that the s-pen is too small. Seems if the device was too big, the s-pen should have been perfect. This is the best phone I've owned and I've owned a BUNCH. 2/5? Hell no.

Gawker sites have been dead to me for awhile.
That's absolutely ridiculous. That's one person giving a heavily opinionated rating. They fail to realize the usefulness for a lot of people. For a Guy like me that has huge hands and large pockets, a phone this size is a no-brainer. Also, for women with purses, this phone is completely great when used with two hands. Also, even with my huge hands, I had no problem using the S pen. Did they also forget about the S pen holder if you think it's too small?
Lately I'm really disappointed with the lack of unbiased reviews on phones. Reviewers should take an unbiased viewpoint and point out basic facts about a phone, then suggest their own opinions. Not stating their opinions as fact and downrating a great device.

I definitely hate apple for that reason. They were definitely not the first ones to make a rectangular phone, and they definitely weren't the first ones to make a rectangular tablet. You can't patent a rectangle. And apple knew that. They were just trying to create a monopoly or at least drown out as much competition as possible. The galaxy tab was the first real challenger to the ipad, and they tried to eliminate it. Same thing goes for their proposed injunction against the galaxy s...it was the first series of phones to directly compete with the iphone. Yes, the legal system is incredibly screwed up to even allow it, but I hate apple for even trying in the first place. Also, trying to sue for the use of a gridded system of apps. Ios devices clearly weren't the first ones with that, but when the first truly competitive device has an app drawer that looks like their whole os, out come the lawyers. Legitimately every picture I saw of those court cases only showed the app drawer on the galaxy tab. Ridiculous! There is so much more than the app drawer to android. Also, I think it's ridiculous that they photoshopped the galaxy tab in their presentation to match the aspect ratio of the ipad. And the judges that couldn't tell the difference from 20 feet away between the two are some luddites that seriously need to check out this technology called eyeglasses. Maybe apple can patent those too and supply them free of charge to bribe them a bit. Wouldn't put it past them.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my iPhone 3g while I had it, and I can't argue with the fact that apple devices are very visually appealing. However, android phones and windows computers suit my needs more. Though I don't imagine any of you defending apple and calling me a troll, haha, I am not trolling; anybody who knows anything should be upset with the way apple has done business as of late.

What I like about the Note is that it fills the void that jb0nd was talking about -- between a smartphone and a tablet. When Apple released the iPad, which was supposed to be the middle ground between computer and smartphone, these biased bloggers refused to complain that it was just an oversized iPod, and that it would be a failure. No, they supported the idea full-on, gave it a 10/10, and convinced the public that it was the product to buy.
I went to "Best Buy" yesterday.
I saw the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Player (didn't know about it), and 4 different Galaxy tablets.
They were nothing but different size versions of our SGS2!
In my opinion: as far as functionality we have the best dealio! The Galaxy note is useless to me. It's just our phone, but larger! The player is our phone, but larger and without the phone part! Of course, the tablets are our phone, but larger! If I really want larger, I'll just connect my phone to a TV via HDMI!
What are others' opinions, and what did I miss?
I personally think its cool to see so many different variations of Samsung devices and encourage them to continue to CRUSH Apple with something that Apple cant provide, which is choice, and continue on their path to world domination.
side note...the I777 is unique in many ways to these other devices.
I mean, Samsung is showing off stuff at different price ranges for different people.
We got a large range of stuff like Samsung Galaxy 5 and Fit and etc. for people who want cheap Android phones, but not looking for the strong power but just for something to make calls on, text, something compact, and something they can play Doodle Jump on.
We got stuff like the Galaxy S II and SkyRocket for people who really want the raw power on their phone, but still, appeals to a large audience with mass advertising, promises fulfilled, and not that incredibly high of a price.
We got the Galaxy Nexus as an attempt to show off their best phone, the top of their line-up, as well as with pricing. If Samsung had anything to show as their work done beautifully, it would be that with Google backing it up completely.
And finally, the Galaxy Note is Samsung's way to step out of the crowd and show something that no one has yet, so it's just just a mess of 3-4 inch smart phones that are just thinner and lighter than the model before, holding most of the changes under the hood, which doesn't concern the majority of buyers.
They pretty much got all the different levels of consumers down, as opposed to Apple, which tries their best to hit all of them with one phone that lies in the middle of all of that, but in the end, the size of the phones is the main thing separating all of the Galaxy phones.
So I wonder how many galaxy players were sold... probably like 2 or 3.. I would rather have an iPod touch

Although I am exclusively an Android user (which you can see from my sig), I have to say that the strategy of "crushing" Apple with "choice" did not pan out that well. Samsung is kinda ok on the phone front, especially with SGSII, but everything else is essentially lost. Tablet front was lost from the get go, because they "fought" IPad form factor instead of putting all resources into 7" one, and they lost even that battle because Amazon stepped in. It is unfortunate, but I personally do not know a single person who owns something that is 10" and is not an IPad, or 7" and is not a Kindle Fire...

I also have two 7" Galaxy Tabs and love them. They seem to be more like my captivate on the inside with the looks of our phone on the outside. Now the GENERAL POPULATION are definitely sheep and is why they choose apple for the most part. I know apple is good for the GENERAL populace but I think our phones would fair well even with these that don't modify them to their liking. And sitting at Starbucks with my Galaxy 7" tab I have gotten more WOW WHAT IS THAT because most GENERAL people just don't really KNOW about the other options when all they hear about is crapple. So my point is taken when they comment on the tab about how nice it is. Apple has done their job to blindfold many people. I think within the last year i have started to see some people switch over to Samsung GS or GS2 and never look back.

That's weird .....only person I knew with a iPad was my sister in-law, who bought one without seeking my approval(because she knows I hate Apple) and within two days of owning it she brought it back to best buy and exchanged it for a 10" Galaxy.
I know alot of people with tabs.....none of those people own iPads. You see heavier concentrations of them....especially in the work place where co-workers do ruthless things like suggest you get an iPad. Same goes for Android.....everyone I know.....and I mean almost EVERYONE has some kind of android device.....most likely because everyone they know has one. I will buy an iPad as soon as there is no more iTunes, its completely themeable without jailbreaks, when.......ah forget it....ain't gonna happen.
Side note reguardless of Samsungs sales.....they still don't remove choices.
Sent from the baddest cellphone ever made.
Well, there are many differences...
The Note has Wacom baked in so that can use electromagnetic pens for precise input.
The player is more of an SGS1 variant.
There are several tablets and they are different...Also you cannot carry your TV during travelling isn't it?
I saw this on pulse in an android section. I thought it was ridiculous. shows how ignorant isheep are. I guess $500 for a tablet plus 150 for a dock is cheap. Also there are android phones that cost way more than the iphone.

I saw those articles. lmfao just goes to show how childish alot of IOS users are. they are hating the fact that Android has Instagram now. Android flood of instagram users will overtake apple users in a short period of time. Android has way larger user base. I got it on my Atrix. haven't really tried it out yet. seems like a bunch of b.s. really. so i want to see what the hype is over. I hope its not just some dumb filters as I've had those and more alot longer on android in general. seems like some kind of picture sharing thing mostly between users. overrated IMO.
also funny is how the most popular iPhone model is the free 3gs iPhone offered by at&t. lol. how can we be poor if they using a free phone..lol

I'll not get too worried due to this. Only hipsters use Instagram and think they are "real" photographers. Yeah right.
In fact, no self respecting Android user will and should use Instagram. Camera360 beats it any day, anyway. Instagram is for spoiled brats and hipsters who think android owners live in a ghetto and live on food stamps.

This is horrible. What pisses me off the most about Apple is that they outsource their manufacturing and claim that it is to keep the cost of their product down, yet I believe they have the highest priced devices. Secondly they create a standard for the outrageously priced devices when they could EASILY shave 30 to 40 percent of the price on ALL of their mobile products if not ALL of them products. And, what's the worst part of all is that the mobile market is exponentially growing, meaning the two grand you dropped on your current phone/tablet setup will be obsolete in 3 to 6 months. Rather than really fine tune a product, they continually shell out new devices with "better" specs. Kinda ridiculous the way they produce products, even Android is guilty of this. It's bad for the consumer, but great for the companies. I mean why create a solid product that stays current for at least a year when you can make devices obsolete after three months which in turn will guarantee that at least a greater percentage of consumers will repurchase the newest devices at a quicker pace. Whatever happened to companies providing what is best for the consumer and not what makes the most amount of money in the shorted amount of time!
Oh well, it is what it is. Before you know it there will be an entirely new type of gadget out that replaces the smart phone/tablet all together and then the cycle repeats but with higher prices and shorter device life spans. Actually, to be honest, I am suprised that we aren't forced into purchasing firmware upgrades... Hmm, maybe I shouldn't of said that, I could totally see a CEO reading this post and going ZOMG GREAT IDEA $50 to update your device!
In any event, kudos to Cult of Mac for reporting on this, given that they're describing a large part of their own audience.

We didn't get Instagram, we got an emulator for the magical phone. Now we can carry all that smug self-importance in our pocket whenever we want to feel rich. 2 stars though because the voice recognition sucked and the photo filters made me feel ironic.

But I do have to say that when people buy an iPhone, they don't just buy a phone. They buy into a highly proprietary culture that promotes thoughtless spending.
Android? Well just comparing how easy it is to get refunds for purchases on Play vs App Store should give us all a good idea.

LOL! That is funny!
Social media really brings out the stupid in people. We used to think about something before sharing it with the world but now people share it with the world before thinking about it. It is because there always seems to be an audience (the internet) available. This is not the only case. (Incoming Hunger Games Spoiler) A while ago when the Grammys were on there was the whole "I would let Chris Brown beat me any day" tweets. Then when the Hunger Games movie came out there was the whole "I don't feel so bad about Rue anymore after finding out she was black".

lol all their rage right now.
What I get from this is Apple users blindly buy apps and hope they work for what they want it to do (As there is no refund). With Android I'm going to look for the free app if i'm looking for a specific function. If it does it well, then It might entice me to look into the paid version to see what extras you get if you pay for it. There are a lot of crap apps, and you kinda have to test them all to find the best one that works for you. It's annoying when there are no free apps on Apple to test what you want to do, and if the app you bought isn't what you thought it was or has problems, you can't refund. Sucks!
I really hate waking up, reading a thread and finding out Im poor.
I really need to talk to the IRS and get my 30 sum thousand dollars I sent them last year back.. do they not know Im poor?!?

Apple has kept a pretty consistent 1 year release schedule. Also why would you expect a company to lower their prices when they are selling their products as fast as they can? They arn't charities.

My 5.0 is a bit banged-up and I'm wavering toward getting a refurbed unit as a backup before they all go and/or this one gives up the ghost, but I'd rather have something new.
- 7-inch tablets are a bit larger and bulkier than what I want. (The new Nexus 7 is a good deal, but....its still a tablet...without a microsd card slot.)
- Smart phones are too damn expensive and I'd really rather *not* have an OLED screen.
Samsung seems able to release every size and format of device except a media-centric device in the 5"-6" range.
I'd even settle for the 5.8 inch upgrade that was released in Korea sans a camera flash right about now.
Anyone else even a bit miffed at Samsung's firm focus on tablets and smartphones now?
I'm not complaining really. I still love love love my 5.0, but I hope this isn't the end of the line for this format in this size.
-A Samsung customer getting really tired of waiting for something new.

The market may have shriveled to a pathetic nub for all I know, but I wish to add my voice to the OPs. That post pretty well describes me (perhaps there's a fair number of us holding the fort; dare I hope?).
I often dryly state that i am 'between jobs' so a smartphone w/ contract really isn't an option for me right now, but I'd dearly love to dump such shekels as I can spare into a quality pocketable Android device that is still being supported. My beloved Sansa has begun to show its age, so I won't be able to put the decision off too much longer. Hear me, O Mighty Samsung Gods, all I ask is one last pseudo-Luddite-indulging hurrah...

You may be right, but surely South Koreans aren't the only ones who buy PMPs. I'm sure they'd sell more if they offered them worldwide.
Maybe they're going to offer the YP-GP1-5.8 reissue soon stateside/worldwide (It's been about a year since it was released in Korea) after the market there becomes saturated with them and they have a ton of parts left lying around and need to make a profit on them.
Or maybe not. The Nexus 7-2nd Gen. *is* starting to look a bit more attractive though....just a bit...
I think actually the galaxy player is a good alternative to expensive tablets and phone and these mixtures because. But something new wouldn't be bad...
A little bit more power and RAM would be enough
The Design might be a little bit more rounded but the size is nearly perfect

I don't think it is that. The market is here, but the thing is Samsung is the only company from what I seen that made an android PMP player. Also with this market you have to make the device a great price, and that's any where from $100-$150. I'd say $200 but then people would be all like "Well I can get a nexus 7 for that price"
I want an upgrade also. Sucks that the galaxys players are not as popular as ipods

Yes it really sucks but the problem is a lack of marketing for our device. Most people asking about my player are really impressed of its size and the fact that it's running android. They find it way better than these boring Apple iPods
