I've seen that some people have found a way to change the soft keys on the Galaxy Nexus from white to blue. Is there anybody out there that can figure out how to do this on the Atrix???

That would be great...

The navigational keys for the Galaxy Nexus (and future ICS phones) are on the actual screen itself.
All other phones just have cut outs of the keys with a light source behind it.
Sorry, but I never thought I'd have to explain this to anyone.

My bad. Didn't study the nexus that much.

Not, not unless you take the entire device apart (same as replacing digitizer) and paint the LED's or the glass back. Motorola just kind of slaps some LED's underneath the buttons... I took it apart, and it looks like they didn't even try to make it look normal (like 4 LEDs). instead its just a bunch of stuff that lights up and bleeds light all over, like on mine, I have light that bleeds up into the screen, and if you hold it a certain way, you can see the light. It's very noticeable (directly seeing the LED)
Yeah I sent a report asking to delete one or even both threads since my question was obviously a no brainer!

Don't know how I can be to tell you the truth... Okay example:
Dark screen and the capacitive buttons are lit, above the HOME button you see a little shine of light, it is coming from the capacitive button. This is my second Vibrant phone(last one the 3g radio wasn't working properly) and the last one also had this issue, I checked the one at the store and it also had this, but it could just be that the shipments that the store got were all faulty of sorts, do you have this issue as well?
Is this a serious problem for you?
No but I am rather curious
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
Picture? Description isn't making a lot of sense.
okay.... I cannot get a picture with a camera at all... but I can try and explain a little more...
You know how the soft keys have lights to light them up in darkness? Well one of the ones from the HOME soft key seems to be showing some sort of light during dark screens outside of the button. Navigate to a black screen, now look above the Home soft key, mines has a little illumination from the soft key itself, I am wondering if it is too bright or something? I only see it during dark black screens but I just want to know if this is an issue.
Oh, I get it .. The screen itself glows, above the Home key? I just tried, max brightness setting and a black screen - no glow on mine. Manufacturing defect of some sort or you have better eyes than me.
Tilt the device so that the head phone jack is facing you, look at the soft keys, if it isn't there I might return mines because it makes things a whole lot different when watching a video

i think he meant theres a backlight leak from the softkey buttons

Angling it like that.. Only a very narrow sliver of light, only visible at a very precise angle. Definitely nothing I would encounter through normal usage, including watching a video.
Just checked the wife's Vibrant, slightly bigger spot of light but still a pretty narrow angle. There's definitely some variation going on here, but neither of ours are visible from normal viewing angles. If yours is interfering with video watching, I'd say that's a defect.
Yeah most likely, I can see mines... I think I just might return it and get a G2 this is my second Vibrant and I really don't want to go through another one, hopefully I can get my money back. Thanks for your help
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I have the same thing. It's not that bad, but I know it's there. Doesn't bother me much, but it's there.
I just checked mine as well and there is a very very small spot at a specific angle. It does not cast enough light onto the screen to be noticiable even in the darkest situation.
Curious what symptoms you had on your first Vibrant with 3G. My 3G is horrible. When I had a G1 a few months ago I had much better 3g. Now, even if I get a 3G signal, I either can't surf at all or it is slower than Edge. I have resorted to leaving my phone set to 2G only. I figured it was a problem either in my area or with the Vibrant In general. Your comment makes me wonder if maybe there could be something else at work.
As far as the light on your screen, I can only barely see that when looking from above as described, definitely not any other time. If this is your second phone, it may have been refurbished and not put together exactly correctly.
As far as mine, I think I'm going to go to the tmobile store and compare my 3G to the demo phone they have on display.

I do have huge light leak onto my screen from the buttons. It is most apparent coming from the home button. That one makes a streak straight up when the screen is black. Like a searclight... But, I don't notice it when the screen is drawn. Definitely a manufacturing issue, but not a serious one. I am also considering heading to the G2 when it comes out. Still miss my G1's keyboard even though I give Swype FULL PROPS for a great virtual kb.
So far after owning the phone for 3 days I've noticed several problems with my Note and may go ahead and return it for a new one. First my stylus seems to to thinks its pressed down when it's not but only towards the bottom of my screen where the "space" and "." key are on the Samsung keyboard. Secondly I've noticed a dark splotch and some dots towards the top of my screen thats only visable on grey to black colors and is really only visable at night. Lastly ive beeb unable to get my USB host to work, though its possible its just the cable (from/for my old Nokia N810). Anyways have any of you guys experienced these problems or other problems and is it worth returning in my case? Thanks.
Yes!!!! Mine does that too around the space and period key. Have you oc'd? I think that is my issue. I returned my phone and got a brand new one but it still had the same issue but only after that. And only after charging.

Is a no brainer that if you have anything but a beautiful screen you should return it, the screen in this phone is amazing so if you notice anything like you say I would definitely return and get it replaced for a new one.

I also have the dark spots. If i go into google and type in black screen and make it full screen and go under a blanket in pitch black there are spots on the screen that look like large individual pixels that are more black than the rest kf the screen. Theres probably like 28 tiny squares that so this.
Cant see them on any other color though. And cant sse them them at day when on a black screen.

There is a thread about the stylus issue here in the forums. Sorry can't get you the link right now. I can tell you mine does not do that.
About the splotches, it's inherent to how AMOLED screens are manufactured. Everyone has them. Some worse than others. It has never bothered me though.

Yeah really the screen spots arent a HUGE issue for me its the stylus, the fact it only does it in that one spot leads me to believe its a digitizer issur rather than just the stylus, though it doesnt do it with my ThinkPad tablet PC's Wacom pen...
Please go to this thread and run all the image/video tests to see if your screen issue is even worse than you think right now:

Well guys I took my Note to the AT&T store and showed them the problem with the stylus, both display models did it and the Note one of the AT&T employees owned did the same thing, they gave me another Note but it did it worse! so I got them to give me back my original Note. What do you think? mass defect? does anyone elses do this?

You could open it up, like he said, and just use a red sharpie to color them, if you don't have the right paint. It fades after a few weeks, but I used to do that. Or you could use one of the Sense 3.6 custom roms, and use the leedroid tweak to dim the lights down. They look much better dimmed, to me at least

I have seen some fairly bad Refurbs in my day. If your only problem with your phone is that you do not appreciate the general shade of red present on your buttons, I say hold onto it tight with both hands and never let it go.
At least the soft keys match up with the ROMs that have unicorn porn in the Dev section.

Hey all, I need some help. I need a camera app or even a system tweak that will allow me to adjust the flash setting of the camera. Currently, we only have ON, OFF or AUTO. There should be an option for soft flash as well. I try taking pictures of my 5 month old niece and every photo I take of her, her eyes are closed because of the bright as hell flash we have on our phones. Any help would be appreciated.
Anyone know of any?

Im not an ass, I just dont believe in sticking crap to my note when I'm sure there could be a software solution to the idea. NEXT!
Found this online....
HTC has an alternative API that supports this, however it's only on HTC Sense devices, and as of Gingerbread they've changed the permissions so it's only for their Flashlight app, not third party ones (unless you use root).
But on 2.2 HTC devices you can use it by writing a string to /sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness. This controls if the LED is on and how bright it is. For maximum brightness write "128\n", half brightness write "64\n". Easy to test from adb shell:
echo "128" > /sys/devices/platform/flashlight.0/leds/flashlight/brightness
And finally turn it off by writing "0\n" there.
Would Devs be able to use this info to create a system tweak to provide options for the flash intensity for the user?

The way you responded was pretty douchey, just saying. Especially since it's a valid idea. You could cut a tiny square of matte scotch tape to stick on the flash and you wouldn't even notice it on your phone.

Put a piece of thin tissue over the flash. This is an easy thing to do especially if you have a case on your device. Stop being a **** to people, atleast they are tryin to give you a solution to your problem. You should thank them not lash out at them.
You're right. I apologize to all that i have offended.
Now can we have a solution to this problem that doesn't require adhesive or paper or anything even close to this type of solution. Please, only software related solutions.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
In OP's defense; they did ask for software or app tweaks, not physical mods.
In defense of the other responders; using white plastic and/or cheap invisible tape IS a method used even by professional photogs to get that soft, dreamy glow. As mentioned in another post, if you have a case and are needing a semi-permanent solution, cut a small square out of a shopping bag. Use layers and different color bags to achieve the results that you're looking for.

The best solution is to take the picture of your niece in the day time WITHOUT Flash. Problem solved. Pictures with flash have little quality compared to daytime captures IMO.
My gf hates that I keep closing my eyes when taking pictures with flash at night. I guess I will bring sunglasses with me at all times.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Take pictures with out flash in lighted areas
then you can maybe use filters or a camera app that can give you different filters to enhance the brightness of the picture
in dark areas idk ....it is a bright flash and dont know of any apps/mods to dim the flash
and i wouldnt stick anything to my Note either
it hurts to have it in a case but i have to protect it lol

And that's why I responded the way I did before. I'm OCD about keeping my phone immaculate and sticking things to it makes me cringe.
Now there has to be a solution. I prefer taking pictures with flash indoors because if not, i notice the pics turn out pixelated. (in my home atleast)

Let me understand the problem
Niece is only available for pictures at night and or in dark basements...?
Solution:
Just carry a halogen flashlight with you at all times, or a candle is good too but could burn if placed too close to skin
If the flashlight is too bright for her eyes you can cut a piece of tape and cover the lense..
Now is good and your note doesn't have any glue from tape.. Problem solved, Leave a "thanks" bellow please.

I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are on this... I really prefer soft keys like on the nexus devices to the capacitive buttons found on HTC devices. But if you enable soft keys it looks really weird with two sets of keys. I'm thinking of putting a strip of black vinyl over them or something... It would be hardly noticeable but it would feel weird. I'm also wondering if they could be covered in black vinyl from the back side, I'm not sure if they're colored white or just completely transparent. Thoughts or any other ideas?

I love the capacitive touch soft keys on the DNA. They work much better than on my old Thunderbolt (the screen digitizer is used instead of a separate circuit). I really hate physical buttons, like that atrocious center Home button on the Samsung GS3/4/Note (Plus, why the hell is back on the right on the GS phones? Makes no sense). I also don't like on screen keys like what you're describing. They waste my valuable scree real estate, and I'd rather have buttons that don't move or change rather than some software overlay.

I have an app that someone linked that controls the capacitive keys to make them dim or turn them off. As far as making them disappear; I saw in a tear down that the keys themselves are transparent where as the rest of the digitizer is black. If you tore the phone down you could probably paint them black to be rid of them completely.
