I am trying to connect my rooted \ custom rom \ custom kernel to my Xoom FE MZ505. I get paired, but not connected (no tether option). Any ideas what i can do \ should?
Phone: HTC Evo 3d
Android: 2.3.7
Rom: CyanogenMod-7.1.0-KANG2-Shooter
Kernel: 2.6.35.13-AnthraX-SHOOTER
Should Have BT tether enabled. I am unsure what app to use, I have wifi tether and trying to get PDAnet on there. Going through ALOT of threads did not help. Most get hung up on wifi tether issues instead of BT.
EDIT:: so basicly I should root it and find a way to add the bluetooth profile to connect to a phone??? Seems to be right. I am trying to connect to the wifi tether program that comes with Cyanogen (in BT mode). Not limited to that app just the one i am using.
BTW - my ip addresses on my phone (terminal) show no bluetooth, possibly because it is not connected
Using this protocol - http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/01...riginal-droid/

Hey all. So i've had my A70 for about a week now, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get this tethered to my phone. I have a Moto Cliq rooted with j_rodd's custom firmware that supports netfilter. I have Wireless Tether app installed and it works fine (I have connected it to my PC and tethered over WiFi).
But for some reason my A70 pairs with the Cliq, but no connection is established. It doesn't see it in the list of paired and tethering capable devices, and there is no way to make the A70 see my Cliq.
I wonder if ther is some way to manually enter the APN info. So far, it only allows me to enter that info if I select USB tethering, but not Bluetooth.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I bought this device because I knew I would be able to tether it. Without that functionality, it really isn't worthwhile for me to keep.
Thx in advance.
Before I buy a G-tablet, one of my major requirement is to be able to tether via my WM6.1 phones (htc mogul and htc 8525).
The 3 options from the WM phones are 1) built-in DUN USB 2) built-in DUN BT 3) WMwifirouter.
I've been digging through the xda forums and it seems like there are no standard ways to use any of these 3 options.
Specifically:
For USB method, android does not have the required drivers.
For BT method, android does not have a built-in BT tether profile.
For wifirouter, android does not allow ad-hoc wifi connections.
There are some work around threads, like for ad-hoc wifi tether the kyros tablet is doing this with limited success:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860489
for BT tether, seems like the archos tablets has a BT profile built-in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893589
Do anyone have a work-around or solution for the G-tablet?
Sorry if this thread is a repeat.
btw, its a bit difficult searching for this because most threads are about tether FROM an android device. In this case, we need to tether TO an android device.
I tether with wmwifirouter without problems using a touch pro 2 on sprint.
The G tablet will connect via ad-hoc with an easy fix, if you do a search on the forums there's an update zip you can apply to stock to enable it, or all the custom ROM's have the ability built in. I use mine daily running on my Droid 1 using wireless tether.
I am running stock 3389 with the gapps enhancement, and once I rooted my work droid x and installed wifi tether, my gtab found it with no issues and connected to it once i set up the wep key. Now I have to see what Verizon is going to do if my account on our corporate account exceeds some sort of data limit since we are not paying them for the wifi tethering/high data rate for my one account. Others have been upgraded accordingly as need arises, so I guess I will see what happens.

PdaNet tethering on my jailbroken iPhone 3g works after I flashed VEGAn-TAB GINGEREDITION on my G tab. My G tab had no problem recognizing PdaNet on my iPhone. Woohoo!
I am also looking for a solution tethering my blackberry bold to gtab. I had tried several methods but no luck so far. We probably need BT tether profile for Gtab. Not sure if someone can porting Archos' BT profile to gtab.
Seems I need to set up the android phone to act as a wifi hotspot. I am using a Viewpoint gtab with Vegan 5.1. I am guessing the the gtab is ready to receive/interact, but the phone needs something.
I have DL easy-tether for the phone and it asks me to DL for the "computer" offering Windows, Mac, Unbuntu and Fedora.
If I have easy-tether on my andriod phone (Motorolo Atrexx), is that enough to establish a connection with the gtab? If so, how? If not, what do I need to do?
The phone has not been flashed with a new rom.
Here's my problem. I can use the Wifi Hotspot and the Wireless Tether for Root at home or any other place I go except while I am at work. I have tried several different devices and they all will connect to my Thunderbolt unless I am in the building at work.
I have tried changing the channel to each channel available. I have also tried both secure and unsecured connections. I have also tried setting up a static IP on the device I am trying to connect.
The only way right now that I can tether is if I use PDAnet and I hate using this application. I would rather use my wifi hotspot to connect.
Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?
Mine works anywhere. I'm actually using the mobile wifi to dl a movie and browse xda with no issues and I'm in a brick building with few windows. Anything special on your phone (root, rom, kernel)
are u trying to connect the same device at work that u connect everywhere else?

Yes I am. I have tried 3 different devices all of which work while I am at home and not at work.
I can use PDAnet to tether with and I hate doing it this way. I would rather use wireless tether to connect with.
Is there a way a company can either jam a wireless connection or prevent one from working that isn't their property? This is the only answer I can think of. We have several wireless access points in the building. Seems like there's on about every 50 feet or so and we have a very large building.
I had the same problem with the Droid Incredible but I was able to use an older version of Wireless Tether to get around this problem. It was version 1.06, but it doesn't fix my issue on the TB.
Using Joelz ICS ROM, the goal is to get reverse tethering working, so that a wifi only (no contract) EVO 3D will receive internet from another internet enabled Bluetooth phone. Joelz ROM has almost everything needed to get DUN working: pppd, rfcomm, and sdptool. The only thing missing is the chat binary?
Using lophyte's guide, here, should provide all that is needed to build the missing component, the Chat binary. Or you could try using the Chat Binary I compiled using ppp 2.4.3 (please do consider I'm still a newbie, so I'm not sure if it's 100%). vampirexhunter's useful guide will provide what's needed to create the connection: here.
Bluetooth DUN tethering should work for ATT, Verizon, Tmobile, etc. If you have a CDMA/GSM internet enable bluetooth phone, you should be able to tether your EVO 3D to it. From what I've read, these providers should be easier to connect to by getting the correct APN string. So far, I've connected my EVO 3D to a Boost Mobile iDEN phone over a bluetooth connection for 1 minute, but there is no internet, and the connection disconnects soon afterwards. For my issue, I believe Boost Mobile has a special chat script to enable the DUN on their phones?
If you give this a try, please post your provider, phone model, status. Attach peer file, chat script
Provider: Boost Mobile
Phone Mode: Motorola i576
Status: Not working
tl;dr Goal, get bluetooth DUN working for ICS ROM. Provide internet connection for EVO 3D through other phone that has internet. Connect using bluetooth DUN. You try?
Hi,
I have read all the posts regarding the inability of ICS on the prime to access ad-hoc networks. I have tried all those 3rd party software (Barnacle, Wifi Tether beta 3.11 - tried to select different phones, pdanet on my Moto Atrix and mywi on a jailbroken Iphone 3GS) and my TP just does not see the ad-hoc network. There is a work around to modify wpa_supplicant (in one of the posts), but don't want my TP to be rooted. I think all these is happening due to ICS since on Honeycomb there was no problem. One of the posts indicated that ICS disables ad-hoc network since they are using WIFI Direct and don't know how that is implemented or used with the TP and able to connect to wifi devices (maybe like phone running a wifi tethering software, don't know)
Other people got it to work and for me, for whatever reason just does not connect my TP.
Another problem I have, is when I use bluetooth with my Atrix, it is indicated paired but not connected and whatever I do, when I click on the phone, the only option I have is rename or unpair, and my suspicion is, my bluetooth never connects to my phone. I tried my bluetooth headset and is connected properly (indicates media and phone connected) and I can hear my music play on my TP. Never works between my phone and TP.
If anybody is kind enough to share their thoughts or even a fix for this, would gladly appreciate it.
Thank you.
I fixed mine by using a custom ROM for my phone with a baked in Wi-Fi tether ie Sprint hotspot or Verizon's hotspots as these work just fine with tether.
I had success with the Open Garden Wifi Tethering app (available on the Android Market).
I have a Thunderbolt and have used Barnacle and Wifi Tether in the past for tethering to my laptop, but neither of these Apps worked with the Prime.
Tether
I also have the TP and a Samsung Intercept vm rooted, wifi tether and Barnacle both don't show up.
Why is this so difficult?
Just installed Open Garden, willsee when my TP gets back from repair (waiting on part! Hope itz a new radio!) Sent it in for weak wifi
theres already been a 20some page thread about this. ICS doesnt have a method to see ad hoc networks. some phones can broadcast in infrastructure, some cannot. Me personally, upgrading to ICS on my Verizon Rezound seems to have fixed its ability to broadcast in infrastructure, and where i was screwed before I am no longer.
I haven't tried adhoc, but it works fine if I turn the wifi hotspot on.
I'm using a custom ICS rom on a T mobile HTC Sensation.
If you have read all those threads - then there is no need to start another one.
