I've bought a new legit/official (has holo, serials etc.) Atrix battery.
Charged it to 100%.
During usage, its draining literally 10% an hour with very light usage (several minutes an hour). In short its draining at three times the speed of my 1 year old battery.
I've tried wiping battery stats but that didn't work.
Any ideas, or is the stats just buggered and I just gotta run it in? (ie it will go to zero then sit on zero for 5-6 hours lol)
note I've gone back to my original battery in meantime rofl
EDIT: The actual problem is that the batt is reporting much less capacity than it actually has

Could just be a bad battery. Considering the old works fine that's probably the problem.

I have a similar problem with the original battery that came with phone it drains the charge quickly to 1% and on one 1% it gives a battery life of more time than the time it took to discharge from 100%.i was thinking of buying a new battery but now i am confused that what should i look before buying the battery to get a battery that can show me the exact charge on the indicator.
I have tried all tutorial of calibration used different roms and kernels but nothing seems to solve the issue.
well I might try that then, just let it run to zero see how long it lasts then see whether the stats come good over time
OK help needed.
The new battery is great capacity wise, lasts from morning to bedtime with >2 hours of bluetooth music, 30 mins calls, a ton of texts.

When I have battery stat problems the following has always fixed it:
1) leave phone on until it dies
2) take back off phone and plug into wall charger
3) after batt symbol shows 100% (without unplugging or turning off the phone) remove the battery. After a minute or so battery symbol will have question mark
4) put battery back in and leave it for at least 2 hours (seems like I have had to press the switch sometimes but you don't want the phone to reboot or you will have to start all over)
5) reboot into CWM and wipe the battery stats
6) reboot and it should be good to go
Anyone else found a fix to this yet?
I'm now running ICS (turl build) issue is still there.
Steps taken to resolve
- discharge to zero
- charge to max
- wipe stats
still there.

Nothing will work i have tried almost every tutorial. Recently i found out the phone is showing the the full capacity of battery only 500 that's why i think we will have to change that with the actual voltage to get a accurate battery indicator.What's ur battery full charge design check if from the root exploler

I'll try the insert empty bat into already connected phone, charge to 100% remaining off, repeat trick overnight, then report back.
FWIW on my 'good' battery which is 1 year old ROFL it says 1880
not sure how changing it would help though or is even possible?. It must be dynamically reported somehow as my good battery gives me a 'good' stat.

How much is ur other battery showing.I have tried different ways but was not able to change values.

Can people PLEASE stop telling us to calibrate we've BOTH DONE THAT MANY TIMES NOW. The problem is that the capacity of the battery is being reported as 500mah not 1930 or whatever its supposed to be. THe actual running time of the battery is fantastic, just thinks its at 0 all the time lol

Newbie here - I have a stock G Tablet.
Have added many apps and also Flash and it is working great.
My one concern is that however long I charge the unit,

Try to recharge with the device powered off, and let it charge for at least half an hour after the light turns green.
I've left it plugged in a good 2 to 3 hours after the green light came on.
It still only reaches 93%.

Do a full cycle, all the way dead and then charge as stated for about 30 minutes after the green light comes on. It could be just a calibration problem. How long is the battery lasting for you?
I use it for short periods throughout a day, so it is difficult to gauge an accurate time.
A rough guess would be approximately 6+ hours.
I always thought it wasn't good to totally drain this type of battery ?

I think this is a LiPo battery - if so, then its is OK to let it drain all the way - just don't do it too often. You should *always* do two full discharge/recharge cycles on any Lithium-based battery as soon as you purchase it, and again about every month or two.
For removable Lithium-based batteries (i.e. *not* for gtab!), if you aren't going to use the battery for, say, more than a week, the best thing to do is to discharge it to about 50% and then put it in the refrigerator. When you are going to start using it again, let it warm to room temperature for at least a few hours to a day (depending on how big it is), *then* put it on the charger. Absolutely do not charge the battery cold as the thermal shock could damage the battery.
The initial discharge/recharge cycles "primes the pump" so that you get the maximum capacity out of the battery (who knows how long the battery has been 'sitting on the shelf'), and the ongoing discharge/recharge cycles keeps the battery at its maximum capacity *and* allows the calibration electronics more accurately track the slow decline of the battery's capacity.
BTW, my gtab's battery lasted on-and-off for almost 2 1/2 days. That was 'sleeping' it at night (*not* turning it off!) and using it on-and-off wifi/surfing/playing AB during the day. I must say, the gtab's battery life is phenomenal!

Thanks. Tried the full discharge and then full charge with the gtab turned off, left for about an hour after the green indicator, but still stuck at 95%. Even deleted the batterystats.bin file. no change. must i do two cycles of full discharge and charge?
I'm having similar issues. I powered off my gtab overnight and let it charge for 8-9 hours and I have not been able to get the battery to say 100%. I'm going to leave it on all day and let it discharge completely and try again tonight.
Drained battery and left it charging overnight and while I was at work (15+ hours) and its still at 95%. I wonder if I should exchange it now.... I'll give it another week....
If you do two full discharge/recharge cycles and the battery is still not showing 100%, then I would take it back. Either it is the battery or the battery calibration electronics that isn't working (my bet would be the battery). Furthermore, since the battery is "not removable", its just not worth keeping it and taking the chance.
If the battery had been removable, then Viewsonic could have just sent you a new battery instead of having a whole gtab come back....
(Note for Viewsonic - this is where removable batteries are superior to non-removable!)

Before you return it check the actual battery life. If it turns out that it's just a calibration issue and if your happy with everything else, perhaps you should keep it.

mine is different... I can charge up to 100%, and keep using it for few hours at night, put it to sleep, then I wake up in the morning and find the battery completely drained... any1 has the similar issues??

You can try going to settings/applications/running services and turn off all non-essential services before putting it to sleep.
Mine doesn't get above 96%, will have to try the suggestions here but overall I'm still very happy with battery life of the 96%...

have you guys notice your battery temperature? i got 2 gtab but both operating at different temperature 1 at 23-24 other is around 31?
My battery life seems pretty good even though it doesn't go higher than 95-96%. I saw in another thread to try resetting battery statistics in clockwork recovery to see if that will fix the battery display problems. I'm going to try that next.
I've got the Malata Zpad (SMB-1002-3G) and mine now wont go over 91% (happened on the 3rd day). It used to charge to 100% no problem for the first two days.
I did a recovery (format) when you press the power and volume up button, but that didn't seem to do anything (other than wipe all my settings and put it back to original factory settings of course)
I'm pretty sure the battery is fine, and lasts just as long, but it would be good to be able to reset the battery status.
PS: My Zpad is not rooted or anything. It's pretty much standard (just running Launcher Pro).

Do you have Clockwork installed by chance? If you do you can charge the battery all the way up and then go into clockwork and reset the battery stats.

I use task killer and app cleaner and have restarted several times. When I look in battery usage is shows the Android OS using 24% Display 26% and phone idle 24%. I did update all my app and this seemed to help just a little. Anyone have any suggestions before I return my extended battery or do a factory reset. tks in advance.

That is about the life that I get on mine on a bad day. Now that you have had the phone for a while, more than likely, your battery has not changed but you have installed more apps which are draining you battery even faster. You shouldn't use task killers either, they screw with the roms built in memory management. However, if you must, then use "Task Manager" the built in stock task manager to end apps. Also i agree that you should completely discharge your battery and then let it recharge completely without turning it on and without using it.

This is not true. The phone has its own power management. When you reach 0%, the battery has still at least 3100mV (on mine it's more than 3200mV).
Li-On and Li-Pol batteries are designed to operate between 4300 and 3000 mV when they reach more or less, than they are damaging.
So you can charge and discharge your phone everyday between 100 and 0%, without any battery damage.
Other thing is Android power management, every time you wipe battery stats or restore backup, or you spend some time in recovery, Android doesn't know, how much capacity is remaining and you need to make more charging cycles, to teach it again and get full capacity from battery. I still don't understand this kind of management in Android.
I've tried all the battery stuff. No dice still discharging fairly quick. In the Battery Usage section It still showing Android OS using around 39 to 40% usage all the time. I have done a full factory reset on the phone 2 days ago and still same.
I noticed, you are using the task killer, stop using it, you have probably loop of killing and starting of some services. Task killer kills, android starts, again and again...
I have uninstalled task killer restarted the phone and still got the high Android OS usage showing.
You won't notice any difference immediately, make one discharge, charge and discharge cycle and you'll see.

As far as your problem goes it may be an issue with the phone itself I've seen a couple photons that needed to be exchanged due to issues that sound similar to yours. If it's doing the same thing on a different battery I'd take your phone into a sprint repair center, you could also try a factory reset if you have not already done so. If your only seeing this behavior with your current battery then I would return it or request a warranty replacement.

root your photon (if not already rooted) and download battery calibration from market, also after rooting go to android development and download th3bill's extended battery mod

Yes, there is an additional reserve that the Smart chip will protect by turning off the battery once it reaches the "0% mark". The Smart chip will also continue to drain the battery further past the 0% mark eating into this battery reserve. Now one full discharge like this probably would not hurt the battery as long as the battery is recharge within a reasonable amount of time. However it certainly does nothing to benefit the battery health whatsoever and it is never recommended to let a battery fully discharge. There are some practices of only charging the battery to 75%-80% that can improve battery life, but individual run time will be sacrificed. My recommendation is if the battery is under 65% than to charge the battery if it is possible to do so.
After doing a factory reset the same problem remained. Sprint exchanged the phone for a new photon. Put my extended battery back in and so far no problems at all with the exception of not being able to join my contacts with my FB contacts.
I have been discharging my Photon and previous phones to 0-5% at least 3 times for a week and did not find any difference in capacity, compared with the new battery. Lasts from the morning to the evening. If I should charge it on 65%, then the phone would be unusable for me.
Like Schale said it could be an actual phone issue, but i highly doubt it. I would try some things before assuming its a problem with your phone. Do this... Also this assumes you are unlocked or at least rooted.
1: Factory reset so to start fresh with no crap applications (task killer apps do more harm than good, as do most battery saver apps)
2: Drain battery till the phone shuts itself off (Dude what right about it reserving a certain amount of juice to not cause damage)
3: Charge to 100% (Dont use the phone during this time.)
4: Use a battery calibrator app (rooted) or recovery (unlocked) to wipe the battery stats.
5: Drain power as fast as possible till phone shuts off
6: Charge to 100% (Again, dont use the phone during this time.)
You can now use the phone how you normally would. If you don't notice a drastic increase in battery after discharging and recharging three or four times over the next few days, I would be comfortable in assuming it's a phone problem. Good luck!
I decided to replace my 2+ year old Atrix battery with an OEM battery. Since then I can charge to 100% just fine (ran the battery fixing apps and did a wipe battery cache thing) but the battery discharges visibly, like down 4% for a single google search, and gets stuck at 1% for many hours. I used an app to see the voltage and it tops out at 4.2v and levels out at I think 3.5v and dies around 3.2-3v if I remember correctly. Anyway, I just don't know how long the phone will last but it is lasting most of the day. Even turning setcpu off I run for hours with a battery drain app and stay at 1%.
Using MROM-1-0.20120505-olympus. I think this is still considered CM7.

Okay, the question is what can I do to make the drop more linear rather than going from 100 to 1 in an hour and staying at 1 the rest of the day.
And I've charged discharged half a dozen times with no change.
As you have tried, I don't have better ideas.
I like checking the voltage reading, rather than the percentage value. It usually makes more sense above 3.6V.
Delete all files (or even better copy somewhere for backup) in /data/battd/. Turn off your phone, charge it few hours after led become green, remove battery with charger connected, wait for "?", place battery again and charge it for about 1 hour, turn phone on with charger connected, check battery level, wait to 4200mV and 100%, finally disconect charger. Use phone without recharging until it turn itself off or reach 1%. Then charge it and use normally.
I did it with new battery and now works great, charge to 4200mV, 100% and discharge to 1%

I have the EXACT same problem as original poster, and i see my battery dying to 1% within couple of hours, and then remaining on 1% for rest of the day! This is misleading and most of time i have no idea how much more my phone will go on. All this despite the fact that i bought my battery paying 35 bucks to get it directly from Amazon!
Tried doing what Zeljko1234 has said in his post above, but to no avail. The problem remains as it is. Anybody else faced this issue and found a resolution? Will hard reset or rooting help? Appreciate any help
Although there are similar reports of battery issues, I haven't found anyone with the same issue. I have an SGS2 running 4.0.4 - all stock and although I'm on Orange, it's not an Orange handset. It's just over a year old.
Since being on 4.0.4, I've noticed the battery level drops when I switch it back on/reboot. It has been dropping by 20-30% but recently it's been dropping all the way to 1%. It has also taken to switching itself off with no warning (or shutdown) - I can only assume because it suddenly thinks the battery is at 0% despite what it was seconds beforehand.
As a typical example, it was charged to 100% (4200mV as shown via *#0228#). After a few hours standard use, it was around 60%. Then, seemingly when I'm doing something intensive like recording video or downloading something over a data connection, the screen goes off and I realise it's dead. I restart and the "battery critical" warning comes up - 1%. It dies again and I remove the battery for a minute, put it back, then power up. This time it says 9%. Then after a short while it dies again. So I connect the charger. After a couple of seconds, the battery charging indicator shows about a 1/3rd full. I switch on and the battery is now at 46%. Whatever the issue, reattaching the charger seems to rescue it - even if it's not back to the original level. The charge levels (in mV) seem to match the percentage.
This happened so much that a few weeks ago, it wouldn't even start and I had to wipe and reinstall everything. It does work now, but still crashes at least once a day. I'm not sure what else to do other than wait for Jelly Bean and hope that will miraculously fix the problem.
I have attempted "battery calibration" though it's a bit difficult - and I've read that it doesn't actually work anyway.
I am a noob - so please treat me like an idiot in case I've missed something obvious.

1.Battery Calibration apps don't work(They don't do anythight good) Battery calibrates selfs...
2.I think that your battery is dead like my (Buy one it cheap)
3.And I think too that Insane gauge chip is very crazy...(You can reset it maybe helps... need flash Syiah and Get Stweaks)

Yup, battery calibration is a myth. Google already states that you do not need to reset your fuel gauge for ICS/JB devices. All battery parameters are automatically reset when it's 100% charge.

No, this dont apply for us. Google stated that is useless wipe battery stats, the didnt say anything about our fuel gauge chip

My battery went from 50% to 15% after a reboot.
The bizarre thing, though, was that I watched it increase from 15% to 20% charge even though it was not plugged in.

I accidentally found a way to over come the unsual battery drain. This method may not work out with completely worn out - old batteries. A month after I bought my s3, my battery started to drain excessively. I had installed no new apps..
Phone Usage was almost the same. Before the battery drain I got almost 26~30 hours of battery at normal use... after the battery drain I got less than 12 hours for the same usage.
So here is the method.
Put the phone on charge. After puttting it on charge, switch off the phone... u can restart it after twenty seconds... ideally wait till the phone cools down, if it feels hot... don't use the phone till it reaches 100% charge. This method works for any initial charge. I.e. it works when the battery is at 98% or at 1%. But if u try this method when u have 1% and u keep using the phone while charging, this method may not work... so ideally don't use the phone while charging.
So now I do this everyday and my phone lasts for 26~30 hours on normal use.
I used gsam battery monitor pro to monitor my phone's temperature and battery usage.
It also gives the average number of hours the battery will last.
For those who dont know : Ideally charge the battery when it is leas than 10%. This will increase the overall battery life.

You basically calibrated your battery. Typically only needs done about once a month at most to keep your battery gauge accurate. Any more than that hurts your battery.

Calibration is draining the battery till 0%, phone switches off and charging it till 100% when the phone is switched off.
This did not do the job. Battery drain was still bad.
After trying out my method, i charged the phone for two or three cycles without this method. Then the battery drain got horrible till the method was repeated.
I have been testing this method for a month. It hasn't caused Any harm. My battery life is good.
Its in effect the well posted bump charge method .

I don't know a lot about batteries so I don't know how much of this is true.
I read that the phones chip, if it regularly see's the phone's battery going no lower than say, 15% over time (i.e, user always charges it once it hits 15%) that it will start to use this 15% mark as the "empty" level and that the best thing to do is to "remind it" every now and again, that there are battery levels below this 15% by letting it drain to 0%
Anyone got any comments on that?

Once you get above 90%, I would stop worrying about it. I think most if not all devices need to go through charge/discharge cycles while fully charged to keep the battery life good, so when it is "charged" it will actually be ramping up and down to do that. How this is shown to the user varies across manufacturers, and there is really no clearly right solution -- if you show them the actual changes in level they start complaining and getting concerned about their battery not being at 100%, so it is good to just show it at 100% at this point but then you are giving a little white lie about the actual level.
NOTE last line 100% is not really true .
As to the 15% all i read is that continual dropping below 15% / 10% is bad for the battery's overall life .

The other thing with Li-On batteries is that (as you say) using the last 10-15% of charge is damaging to overall battery life. If the battery reaches "True 0", it would be irreparable. That said, this last 10-15% of "Danger zone" (as I will now call it) is inhibited by an EPROM setting so a user cannot actually get below that.
Essentially, what I am saying is that the 10-15% "danger zone" is not included in the 0-100% that we perceive to be the "battery life" as the user.
So in the 1st attached image, the Red area represents the "danger Zone" or EEPROM protected charge. The Green area represents the 0-100% that we use as a user.
But in this case, I am asking if the EPROM sees the 15% remaining charge of the green area (forgetting the danger zone exists), if regularly not dropping below that, it becomes the new 0%, losing the last 15% of the green area as per the second image?
The phone only sees a reported voltage value, which it compares to a table giving an approximate % remaining - based on a fixed battery capacity.
The 15% danger/red zone you refer to is below the minimum voltage the phone will allow the battery to ever reach, as below this value the battery itself will act to disconnect - giving unexpected shut down and data loss/partition corruption. You would also be unable to recover a battery in this condition with a normal charger.
Best advise is still to recharge before the battery reaches 10 to 15% of the phone's indicated remaining value - you can safely go down to 0% indicated but will lose a little battery capacity each time you do this, as the electrodes inside the cell are being worn away. It's no big deal, hence why the phone permits it to happen, you'll just need to replace the battery earlier.
Similarly charging to 100% and holding the cell there is just as bad, remove from the charger and start using it right away.

*shrug* Sorry, I read your post about 10 times last night and figured you were talking about calibration. I then posted accordingly. Tonight, after I read your reply, I tried reading your post again a few more times. Finally, I came to the conclusion that your post makes no sense, so I give up trying to decipher what your post was trying to say. I surrender.
The best answer to the battery drain issue is a application called "GREENIFY". It closes all the background applications.. Try it n thank me if u feel it worked.. It increased my battery life more than twice..
