Every time I click a YouTube link in the default HTC browser, it opens the mobile YouTube website.
On my phone (HTC Sensation), it asks if you want to open the YouTube app.
Has anyone else run into this issue and found a fix?
You might need to go into settings/ applications and clear the defaults on the browser. It sounds to me someone bumped the check mark of the pop up to use the app or the browser as default.

On gingerbread I was able to click Youtube links from any application and launch them using the youtube app. I was prompted once to do so and every time thereafter the app would launch.
Now on ICS, i never once got the prompt to chose internet or youtube app, it just launched every youtube link using the browser which i detest.
Does anyone know what option/default i have to clear to get my app back as the default for links?
I tried clearing defaults for the browser and any apps that i usually click youtube links in to no avail.

It has to do with crapple and its patent suit. The app associations is the work around that HTC has come up with. Presently there is no way around this. It sucks, we know. Blame crapple.

I don't know if this is specific to this phone or not but every time I click a YouTube link I am directed to the the website instead of the app. I have cleared permissions and un installed updates to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check app associations in your settings... It should ask you what to launch unless you have already set it to go directly to the browser

My YouTube asks everytime I hit a link if I want to open it in the browser or the YouTube app and won't let me set a default. My app associations menu doesn't list anything related to YouTube either.
So my question is this -- where are you launching the links? It's possible that it's a problem within your browser, so you might want to try a different one and see what it does. If it's not from the browser (Facebook, etc), it might be that app.

I have a guide that solves this exact problem, sadly, you need to be rooted. So as soon as you are rooted (or if you're one of the lucky ones who is rooted) check out this thread right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696536 it will work on your device and solve your issue :good:

So here's the thing I've flashed JB 4.1.1 and I've noticed something which I don't know if it's a ug or a feature on the update. When I try to open a youtube video on facebook unlike the previous firmware, I don't get the option of watching the video on the youtube app, instead I'm only given the options of browser or pop up browser...
Can anyone help...?

Everything's ok here. I get as options the browsers and the youtube app. Try reinstall Facebook and youtube updates (remove the updates and update it again)
Also be sure you didn't selected youtube videos to open as default in browsers or something like that.

Hi,
I am using Galaxy s3 and upgraded it to Jelly Bean.
Till now whenever I used to click the link in S3's default internet browser, I used to get the app to open it. For e.g. if i clicked on Google play link, it used to open google play appl. Or if I click on youtube link it used to open youtube app on my android device.
But now, every time i click on any such link, it opens app in web browser. It is very much annoying.
I have cleared all the defaults of all the apps like Internet, Youtube, Google play etc but the issue still continues.
Seniors can you please help me in this issue. I really tried all the things but no success.

Possibly not much of a solution but try using a different web browser, there are far better than stock. Try using dolphin browser HD or Chrome. There are a few more but they are the ones I recommend.

Doesn't work...interesting thing is even after clear defaults from dolphin as well as stock browser, it only gives me these two options to choose from when I click on any youtube link,e.g. in FB. It never gives me an option to select youtube app.
I'm on Viking 5.1 | Android 4.1.2, although I'm sure the ROM should not matter. I remember it used to work on 4.0.4.

for some reason I can not open youtube links with my youtube app anymore. It used to be like I was able to choose whether I would like to open the link with my brother or with youtube. Now for some reason I can only choose between Android Browser and Opera. Youtube option is gone. I have googled this problem and found a couple of people having the same issues but no solution. Can anyone of you help?
Things I tried:

Try to clear the data of youtube app or if that does not work try to uninstall and reinstall the app.

I have the same problem, I clear data from facebook, browser and youtube and still all the links from youtube I´m only able to open the with browser and for some reason it says this video can not be played
I had this issue in some GB ROMs, JB is fine.

I had some problems with the Youtube app recently, it just said "an error occured" and in the logcat it mentioned something about not being able to authorize my account with google services. Turned out the latest version of the app is just crappy. Downgrading back to 4.1.47 fixed all issues for me.
