Hey i'm having a little epidemic at the moment as my X10 usb port has decided to remove itself from the pcb and i have attempted to repair it with no success and im wondering if any knows if there is possibly any other way to flash a kernel from the sd card as im going to permanently be stuck on the FXP52 kernel and the wifi tether app isn't working therefore i can't use the phone for the main thing i wanted it for so if anyone knows whether this can be done i will appreciate all the help i can get
Sorry as for now there's no way. There are some miui Roms that use the same fxp kernel, and I think tethering fine works on them

Damn not good and yes i know this, im running the miui&FXP BlackEditionHD by Crowds and its a really nice rom just i have a few wlods every now and then and want to try out dooms fxpmod full oc kernel and in the future a different rom/kernel configuration and for tethering i can use bluetooth tether but wifi isn't working, in wifi tether for android users i get could not set Essid error and barnacle says could not set ssid of wlan0 "/ not sure why as its as its all configured correctly, wifi itself works fine just no wifi tethering
this thread should be Q & A section.
and I guess you can use locked bootloadrer kernels too if I m not wrong.
they can be flashed directly in recovery though unlocked bootloader kernels are better but you can atleast use them .
correct me if I m wrong
only just realized that lol
im not sure i have only been in the customizing scene a little while so im not 100% certain as to what i can do i want to go back to doom's full oc kernel but my damn usb port gone died on me
go to thread Doomkernel's v06 Locked bootloader and download it and put it in sd card and flash it in recovery(xrecovery or CWM)
dont forget to again flash the kernel after flashing a new rom
He's on FXP kernel, so the "old" bypass method is not supported. In other words, he can't use old custom kernels for locked bootloaders.

No, this can get him to GB stock ROM but it will not change the kernel.
If I were you, I'd go to a SE service center and ask about repair prices and if they are not affordable, check eBay for spare parts.

dunno if this helps but i have an unlocked bootloader?
EDIT: this was the method i used to unlock it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253277
EDIT #2: i can't go to SE as i have dismantled the handset and attempted a repair myself and i bought the phone second hand
As iris said above then I'm afraid try fix it yourself

So after reading the android development section, i found out that our devs prefer using basebase .52 for their customized kernels. My question is, does that mean they will work exclusively on .52? and if so, will it be possible to flash baseband through xrecovery now that they have found a way around the bootloader? (Is it possible to do that even with a completely cracked bootloader?) I say this because my usb hub doesn't work anymore and xrecovery is the only bit of functionality i have left. There's a fair share of x10 user's with broken usb ports and i can't be the only person with this problem. Atleast i hope not.
no, sorry, not through xrecovery. they are using an exploit in bb .52, which since then has been patched. you will only be seeing a bootloader by-pass for now, but the possibilities of custom kernels are pretty good for the near future. sorry about the usb mate, best to send it in, or borrow a saudering gun and search for the usb repair instructions in forums

hi all,
as usual, i hope this isn't a double post.
i'm wondering, when the official gingerbread update arrives, will it work on old basebands??
the reason for this question is because my x10 has a broken usb port and i'm stuck in baseband 2.1.54.
would devs make gingerbread roms based on the official rom for older basebands??
this is bothering me so much because i love my x10 and it would break my heart if i couldn't update my x10 to a fully working gingerbread.
thx for ur input

Might not work most likely not there is a new baseband and kernel required

Do you know what pin on the usb port that is the broken one?
when you connect the phone to the computer, does anything show up?
What I mean is that if your connect has +5V or -5V broken it would still show upon the computer but wouldn't charge (i think), so maybe the phone wouldn't get in charging state but could be connected.
Else the best would be to open and try to fix the broken connector, i don't think this would be too expensive to pay for.
Unless the connection for the usb is broken on the "chip port" and is not a connector broken.
I looked at bunch of threads with fixes but I'm no good at insides of gadgets and it would cost me $70 to fix it at a shop; I would rather replace it for $200 or wait for hardware upgrade if it came down to that though.
I was reading this thread earlier today and I just remembered about this, I was just on the market and I came across this app called Software Data Cable by Proid Mobile Inc. This app can let you transfer files/folders from computer to phone without the need to use a usb.. This could be the solution for the op is looking for if he wants to upgrade to gingerbread. Its free btw... Have a look at it read the faq as it states and let us know if it works.
The software data cable app uses wifi and ftp to transfer your files. Even xrecovery is going to be gone while the phone gets a new kernel.

I don't think u can update headband with software data cable, can u?
Oh ok, wasnt aware of that. Would you be able to take the micro sd and place it into a card reader then transfer the files that way? Out of curiosity.

Impossible as flashing baseband or seus repair requires to be connect in flash mode, so there is no system running on it.
When they manage to get full control of the kernel and bootloader you may have a chance!

Well not knowing exactly how all this works I figure I saw it i'll post it and see what everyone says.
hi!
i'm currently running froyo 2.2.2 rooted and with dookmatt's kernel. i want to upgrade to the official 2.3.3 rom and use franco's kernel. this is the part where i don't know what to do...i mean do i have to use kdz or update through lg pc suite? and also if i have to upgrade through lg pc suite do i have to restore nandroid backup?(i made one just after rooting to be sure )i know it's probably been answered in another thread but due to the really short time i spend at the computer i would really appreciate if someone told me what to do or at least gave me a link to a similar thread.
cheers!

I would like to know if I can upgrade to official 2.3 without a PC. Is there any way to flash zip file in recovery?
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
You need the new baseband. That cannot be done from recovery.
from what i understand the baseband is flashed when using kdz right?

Yes, you are right.
ok i've flashed the original 2.3.3, rooted and installed franco's kernel for gingerbread...all went well except for one thing... i connect to a wifi network...everything is ok but after 10-15 minutes wifi goes off by itself and in settings under wifi i get an Error status message(just where it says connecting, obtaining ip adress) and wifi cannot be reactivated unless i reboot the device. can this be fixed?
edit: never mind i've taken my time to browse the forum and discovered i'm not the only one with wifi error... thank god i don't have the black screen bug! now i'm anxiously waiting for franco's update on the kernel
Cool this post answered my question
I ran CM7 nightlies on my DInc2 and updated to the stable version the day it came out. Technically, I am a noob so I really don't know what I am doing, I just know what I like and I can follow directions. (Except for Matt's ICS update when I forgot to protect the root and had to start over with .181, doh!)
Why is it that CyanogenMod is unavailable for one of the hottest phones on the market? Is it because of the locked boot loader? (which I will have to look up cause I don't even know what the heck a boot loader is anyway)
It's not über important, I just really miss my CM7 and was wondering if anyone knew the answer.
Locked bootloader= no custom kernals also there is cm9 but not cm7 nobody wants cm7 anymore ....
Sent from my Spectrum....Verizon's most underrated phone
You don't need custom kernels to have official CM.
That being said, our devs are hard at work on making a fully functional CM ROM - thing is though, since we have to work around the kernel that our devices are working using a process called "2nd-init", since we have locked bootloaders, everything is taking a lot longer and is a lot harder.
We have a partially working CM9 ROM over at http://droidhive.com. We also have AOKP.
Would you recommend a partially working version for noob who really loves CM?

I am running 4.0.3. I agree, it is cool. I still think I prefer CM.
CM isn't necessary at this point in time.
hy,
i am quite sure this questions wer answered x-times, but i didn´t find the answer in the forum, so i will ask:
1) Can we expect that the Bootloader will ever be UNLOCKED?
2) Are some DEV´s (and who?) working on it? Do they inform the folk on ex. twitter or so, like the iPhone guys (musclenerd, pod2g, ionic,...)
3) I already updated to ICS-TMobile-Leak, is my bootloader now different to the one in GB?
somehow i thought, i shoud write a NEW post, but i hope its okay to ask here, coz +1(wanna hav CM9 toooo)
greets

1. I think only Moto can unlock the bootloader, cause someone else told me it's an hard work because of 3 layers of encrypted code (I don't know what it means!)...it requires a lot of time and a powerfull machine
2. see n°1, Eternity project team are working on a bypass for bootloader (kexec)
3. ICS Bootloader is different from GB one, I guess.

Wait a moment...kexec is not necessary for CM9 flashing...you can flash modded rom, yet.
kexec (or unlocked bootloader) is required for mod kernels!
I am on icsleak, means i cannot flash costum rom as long as devs are not developing roms for my existing kernel right?
So i need to have kexec to bypass the kernel flashing to flash a costum rom...

First phrase. Yes, I think so, if you can't downgrade to GB, as I guess
Second hrare. I don't know if kexec gives you this opportunity. You have always to flash a compatible kernel with a custom rom, its or others. This is my guess, someone else can confirm or not?
ok so my usb port smokes up when i connect it, so i need a way to install the kernel through cwm recovery, hopefully there is a way, because normally flashing a kernel never works for me -.- i know its dangerous but yeah only thing left i can do
not that i know of
Check the kernel file if its CWM you can simply flash.

you cant. simple as. i will work on it after i get my galaxy note but it doesnt exist yet

At the moment, you just can't. your phone needs to be in flahsmode, and the only way to get there is through usb, so if your usb-port is fried you're stuck on the kernel you currently have.
ok thanks man, was just wondering cause ive seen some people with samsung galaxy's do it, shieee oh well, minicm7 is good anyway

yeh well, the samsung galaxy's are newer with our 2010 phones we're almost medieval and in the middle-ages they didn't have CWM yet back then we were stuck on xrecovery.
