Have you tried it on a hdmi device? I have done it on my hd tv. It works and well. I believe you must have hdmi output to do it. Or the laptop dock is the main option.

Well it pulled up on my TV. Isn't there a way to use it on a desktop without the dock?

If you have a HDMI input on your desktop monitor, you can connect the Atrix via HDMI to your monitor. If you have the Webtop hack, you will be able to use it this way. If not, you should still be able to use the entertainment center. You won't however be able to use Webtop on a laptop, as video on a laptop is out only. Similarily, you won't be able to connect your phone through the video card on a desktop, as this is video out only also. You could possible do this with an elaborate setup using firewire, serial ports, etc., but why would you go to those lengths?
Hope I understood your question and my response answers that question.
Cheers!
<edit> I should also add that the limiting factor with a laptop and desktop is not the connection itself, but rather the drivers. The ports are capable of video in, but you will not find drivers to accommodate this.
The laptop dock is not a "laptop" as such, and you shouldn't confuse the laptop dock with a laptop.

I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus threads and saw this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_--zcmqIyRI and decided I would try it out on the Note. I did this on my Evo when I had one so this isn't a new idea but I kind like it. This isn't an in depth video, it just shows you how it works with what I have working with it. The commands that the Nexus user can use with his keyboard I couldn't get to work with the Note. Not sure if its an ICS thing or what. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laUNz7QJ9Wo&feature=youtu.be
I too have been playing around with this and it is a pretty novel idea. It isn't 100% there yet in terms of being a setup I could use full time, but it does let me travel without my laptop and plug in to a hotel TV.

I am using both an Apple keyboard and track pad in one setup and a Motorola keyboard/track pad combination in another. They both work well.

Is there a way to make the Motorola Lapdock to work with the Note or something similar?
I was hoping to put Ubuntu on my phone and be able to mirror that to the screen.
Any suggestions?

Can you get any of the commands to work from the keyboard like the Nexus? I'm not having much luck there. Might be a gingerbread thing.

I just found an old Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard (it's a small black box that you set on a table, and it projects a full-sized keyboard onto whatever flat surface it's sitting on using a laser) I used to use with my Windows Mobile 2003 PDA and tried to pair it with my Note today. It works flawlessly! This thing hasn't worked with any of my devices since WinMo 5, and even then it usually required a driver to be installed. Not with the Note! Just need to be sure I have the Samsung Keyboard selected (but it doesn't need to be open). I just keep getting more and more excited about this thing (except for the dark splotches on my display and low Quadrant scores).
Ok this is neat for traveling. Anyone know what cable we need to connect to the lcd monitor?

You have to have the MHL to HDMI adapter for it to work. I got mine on Amazon for $22 including shipping and got it within 5 days. Then of course a bluetooth keyboard and mouse..works good. Does your monitor have HDMI?
Edit: If your traveling I'm sure the tv might have an HDMI...unless you stay in a Days Inn as I do..

The Logitech Tablet Bluetooth keyboard/android 3.0+ works nice with the Note.
It even has 3 special keys to enable the menu, home and search buttons.

I do this with my Transformer Prime via.the.HDMI out. I have to get a MHL adapter for my Note. But this is very possible for people who browse, email and play games. NES and NES ganesh never looked better on my Samsung 60"
I dont touch my laptop anymore. Only to download ROMS lol

Note 717 as a computer
I have been using the Note 717 as my home computer. I downloaded Liquid smooth 4.1.2 and now the HDMI to Micro USB adapter doesn't recognize the monitor? Please help....I would also like other ideas for hooking the phone to a monitor. The cables constantly cause issues with connection. thanks you
Does anybody here know if the evo lte is compatible or is working with that kind of cable?
Some places I read that is the kernel and this phone is not compatible, but other places they are selling the cable and saying it works.
Also someone tried transfering pictures using nfc?
I can transfer youtube or website links, or contacts; but not able to transfer pictures.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I have tried this with two different host cables and it does not seem to work for me (works just fine with my xoom). It sucks that they would not include this as this is part of Android since 3.2. HTC needs to fix this.
Ok, thanks for the info, I hope htc fix this soon, is a good feature to have.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
Yea you can't send picture using Nfc. Samsung tweaked s beam to do it using Wi-Fi direct and I'm fully expecting Google to assimilate that into 4.1 or whatever jellybean will be.
With usb otg it's in ics but needs to be enabled in the kernel. So hopefully when the source is dropped we can get that done. Don't know why they would do that from the beginning.
Sent from my EVO 4G LTE
Yeah I thought i saw somewhere nfc being use to transfer photos but then thats what it is. It would be nice if it was a nfc feature.
Hopefully htc makes an update to use usb on the go.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I saw that bump to send feature in the new Windows Phone 8 keynote. I'm assuming it uses NFC to initiate some WiFi connection for transferring.
If we can get USB hosting to work, that would be awesome!
Anything new on this? I sure would like to see this working on my EVO LTE...

Most basically it allows you to mount usb drives. Full functionality allows you to plug in controllers and other usb devices which the OS has drivers for. In the case of my asus transformer it allows the use of 3g dongles as well as flash drives.
Awesomesauce has OTG enabled in the kernel, but i don't know of any rom that has auto mounting baked in, i had to use a 3rd party app to mount my drives and even then it was a little clumsy and took forever to mount.

Ok so I've got my deactivated Photon and I'm repurposing the device as an Android media player. I'm basically trying to make it a nexus Q/Google TV like device. Looking for suggestions on how to best achieve this. I would like to be able to control the device from my phone (Note 2) as the nexus Q allows you to modify it's music queue.
Some background: phone is unlocked, I'm using an HD dock to connect to my TV or stereo.

Buy an HDMI Cable & download an airplay server app from the market (the is one like that)
and an AIrplay Client
Hdmi out on my photon always looked terribly pixelly. I almost could not stand it but mine is locked so maybe custom roms and kernels fix that issue.

Thinking of doing this on a 32" bedroom TV. How are you all controlling it, do you just set up whatever video you want and then plunk it into the dock, or do you have a wireless keyboard/mouse?

Well that's one of the things I'm trying to figure out. If I can get it to behave like the Nexus Q then I could control it from any Android device. Unfortunately I have yet to figure out how to accomplish this.

Not 100% sure if I know what you're asking, but Airdroid might be the thing for you. It lets you perform a variety of functions on your phone remotely from your computer (it doesn't, however, show you exactly what is on your phone's screen; it has its own interface).

Yeah, Ive read about that program, but thats not what I want. I want it like a remote desktop.
Similar to teamviewer, but instead of controlling PC-PC I want the same with Android-PC.
And I need the screen to be visible =)
