GAPPS - "Can't open" (bad) - TouchPad General

Hey all, just downloaded the gapps zip from goo-inside.me.
The filename is "gapps_ics_4.0.3_v11.zip", however when I try to install the zip from CMRecovery, I keep getting
E: Can't open /sdcard/gapps_ics_4.0.3_v11.zip" (bad)
Installation aborted.
I also tried a file I found on there named "gapps-ics-20120201-signed.zip", and that returns the SAME error.
I did a full cache wipe, factory reset, dalvik wipe, then installed CM9 0.6, and even tried "Fix Permissions".
NOTHING seems to be resolving this. I tried to search around for people with this problem with either of these two zip files, but have found nothing regarding these two specific zip files returning this error.
I tried downloading a fresh copy of the files, removing/recopying the file...nothing is helping.
I'm sure the fix is simple and elegant, but I'd love some help on this as I feel like a moron not being able to figure this out
Thanks all, and CHEERS!

Hmm, that's weird.
Try downloading from different site. You could also try v8, if it installs, it will update and you'll be current.
Just some ideas. Hope something works. Good luck.

I had the same problem. I was able to flash only after copying Gapps to the TP via clockworkmod. Unmounting, rebooting, then flashing. Good luck!

I can't install gapps which I downloaded from above mentioned site hope a solution if any of you solved it :?

If you're installing a rom, use this link http://goo.im/gapps to choose the appropriate gapps. Copy it to the root of your sd card, along with the rom file. Wipe cache, format system and wipe dalvik cache. Then flash the rom, then the Gapps. Reboot. It should work. If you just want to install gapps, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache, flash the Gapps file then reboot.
Good luck. Make sure that you use the Gapps corresponding to the OS you're using.

[Q] (bad) installation aborted?

I am Currently running VEGantab ginger and wanted to try a different rom
I get the following error when I try to install VEGan 5, or Caulkin... I followed the directions in the sticky
I wipe data/factory reset, clear cache and delvik, then I go to choose the zip from the sdcard and I get this message:
Finding Update Package
Opening update package
E:Can’t open /sdcard/roms/gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I can still install VEGanTab Ginger from the same directory and Vanilla, so I don’t know what the issue is.
Any fixes?
bad download or copy to your tablet.
Delete and re-download gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip

I have tried that several times. I have also donloaded from the XDA forum, and from VEGAn's site.
Rename it to something like Vegan.zip, put it in a different directory or something to see why you are having issues. It could be too many characters, or something simple like that.
when you browse to chose it to install, it errors then?

I tried renaming it, but it still didn't work. Thanks though. Maybe re-partitioning?
I don't see how that would help installing.
Something is going on with the install since it's aborting at install.
You said you can install other ROM's without issue...just this one, right?

Calkulins and Vegan 5. I was hoping to go back to a 2.2 Rom so video acceleration will work. I also tried doing it from ROM installer, but still not working.

Actually this seemed to fix it:
Reboot device, go back into CWM
Clear data/cache/dalvik, etc. (maybe a few times?)
Install from zip
Worked this time!

Ok. Thanks. I'll try it tomorrow. Just curious, did you wipe and then wipe again, or reboot recovery after your initial wipe and wipe again. Just curious your order of operations.

I just went to 1.2 and followed the steps, but get this if I attempt to do it by update.zip or the install zip way.

Flash CyanogenMod.

Sounds like you may have a bad download of the Google Apps. Try using this link:
http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip
Try downloading straight to your phone and then flash from ClockworkMod.

I think you are confused on how to install the Google apps properly.
At step 4, you should choose install zip from SD card, then select the Cyanogenmod zip file and let it install it. Once it has finished, you should then choose install zip from SD card again and then choose the gapps zip file and let it install that. You should reboot the phone only after installing both zip files, one after the other.
You can also save yourself a lot of potential headaches by formatting the system partition before installing. You also didn't mention the dalvik cache but I'm assuming you did that as well. If it's still unclear, here's the whole process you should be following for a clean install:
1) Boot into Clockworkmod
2) Wipe data/factory reset
3) Wipe cache partition
4) Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
5) Partitions menu > format system
6) Install zip from sdcard, select Cyanogenmod zip file
7) Install zip from sdcard, select gapps zip file
8) Reboot

Thanks for your direction. I have the Cyanogenmod running stably and I installed the Google Apps thereafter. Since I installed the Google Apps, my phone has been restarting after, say, 3 minutes of startup. Can you help me please.

Make sure you got the correct version of gapps for cm7. It should read something like: gapps-gb-20110503.zip.
Sent from my cm7 Aria.

[Q] [HELP] New To Flashing

Couple questions I have.
What is the correct procedure for flashing ROMS? Heard you have to wipe cache and dalvik cache, where do you go to wipe dalvik cache?
Do you always have to flash a ROM twice?
When flashing zips for ROM fixes, do you have to re-install base ROM then the ROM fix? EX - Running AOKP Milestone 5.2, there is a problem with the Internal storage mounting. Downloaded a fix off jokersaxs website. In CWM I cleared the cache, flashed the ROM twice and the Internal memory still can not be found.
Thank you for the Help!

1) Depends on what you are flashing. Before flashing the file you will want to read up on it first. Usually there are guidelines in the OP. If you are not sure than best to ask first and make sure you have a backup created. It is a good idea to wipe cache/dalvik several times before flashing. This can be done via your recovery (in CWM dalvik is located under "Advanced" menu) or there are zip files you can flash which will do the wiping for you. I usually do both.
2) No. But with certain roms it is recommended to help prevent issues. Usually if it is needed it will be stated somewhere in the thread.
3) Should not have to but here again it depends on the type of file/fix and if it is necessary should be listed in the OP. Usually just the fix can be flashed otherwise it would be easier for the dev to post an updated rom version to flash.

[Q] No "Null" bar under settings after ROM flash

Hey guys I installed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005845
But for some reason I dont have the Null bar under settings. Nor can I seem to find a way to open STweaks. It is installed under application settings, but I cannot find how to open it.
Any advice? I cannot post in the thread because I am a new user
Thank you in advance
I did full wipe, clear dalvik and all that. Format system, wipe cache, everything. Tried all settings. 5-6 reinstalls. Same result.
Any advice?
You can try superwipe zip.
It will wipe your internal SD for a super clean install.

Erase /system partition on Cyanogen Recovery

First of all, this is my first post on this forum, so I'd like to say hello to everybody.
I made a bit of a mess with my father's phone (it was mine before he had it, so it was already modded), and the explanation will be somewhat long because I tried everything before coming here for help.
This phone had Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, installed through the official Cyanogenmod 12.1 Nightlies. It was working perfectly, but I wanted to install more Gapps on the /system partition and switch some of the original Cyanogenmod apps with the corresponding Google apps. I used Deltadroid's modular Gapps (Thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/app-minimal-gapps-gapps-lp-20150107-1-t2997368) to install everything I needed on the /system partition, but I only did a factory reset+cache wipe instead of wiping the /system partition too and starting from scratch, because I couldn't find the option to wipe the /system partition in the "stock" Cyanogen Recovery. Now the phone will boot, enter recovery mode and even get to the setup screen, but as soon as the Google Play Services are needed, they crash and the setup won't go on. I tried installing the CWM but the signature check fails every time, I tried using ADB but I'm no expert and I don't know how to make it work, I tried reinstalling the ROM and wiping /data and /cache once again to no avail, I tried basically everything but it seems the only thing that can be done is wiping the /system partition and reinstalling both the ROM, the Gapps and the add-ons.
The problem is, I have no idea how to wipe the /system partition, so I was wondering if anyone here could help.
Thanks in advance.
Hi @Valtekken
You just need to have a "signed" .zip to flash through that recovery. Try the philz 6.48.4 attached here. I have heard of a few people not being able to flash this one, if it doesn't install, use the other one first, reboot to recovery, and then flash 6.48.4. So -
1. Flash the philz recovery
2. Reboot to recovery, not system
2a. (Flash the other one, reboot to recovery [if you used XWMS3 first])
3. Do your wipes(you should only need to wipe /system if you want to keep your data, but I always recommend a clean install if possible - /data, /cache, and dalvik/art cache as well)
4. Install the new CM12.1 and gapps
BTW the gapps you can flash will depend on whether or not you have repartitioned. If you have stock /system partition just install a pico or minimal gapps

First of all, thank you for answering!
I tried many "-signed" .zips, but none of them worked, so I'll assume I used non-compatible ones. There was space for the Gapps on the /system partition, mainly because I made sure of getting only the Gapps and the few addons I needed, so the MB count was very low.
I'll try your recovery right now and let you know in a moment, hopefully this solves the problem and I can have the phone working again.
Managed to install the recovery, format the /system, /data and /cache partitions, install the rom, the Gapps and the add-ons. It worked, but the phone still gives me an "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped". How can I get the apps to work? What could the problem be?
I solved the problem, finally...I changed the Gapps package (I used TK's Gapps) and managed to install it and make everything work.
Thanks for all your help! I think the thread can be closed now.
