[Q] Need help with bad echos, on Passion v12 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm on ICS Passion V12 rom and I have this issue, I hope someone can advise how to solve it. Ever since I flash this ICS Passion rom, my friends start telling me that when they say something, they can hear echos back and background noises. On my end, I have no problem hearing them. I used the speaker all of the time. I believed this issue only happen when I turn on the speaker. I even lower the volume down and it's still happen.
Looking at the OP and thought this is an issue with mute/unmute so I tried it but it doesn't help. I also searched thru the forum but unable to find the answer. Is this just me with this issue? I really like this rom and hope to get this problem resolve. If you know the answer, please advise.
Thanks!

My phone does that when i turn on speaker phone also, only to the listener on the other line.

I have seen this happen on my phone as well. I have also had this problem on other non smart phones and also on the stock rom. It does seem to happen every time using the speaker phone on passion v12 though. Just last night I had it happen during normal calling (not on speaker phone) but it was only for a brief moment. The rom IS in beta so maybe it will be fixed.

Thank you for reply to my question. I went thru 950 pages last night (what a pain...hehehe) in the developer forum and found number of others are also having this issue. Some are suggesting to use V11. I probably will give that a try b/c I only use speaker for phone so I can't use phone with this issue.
Anyone know if flash to V11, do I need to do wipe, wipe, wipe before flash? I want to keep the settings and app, etc...
Any good ICS rom beside Passion?

[Q] ICS Passion v9.0 -- Inconsistently Poor Call Quality

Hello gentlemen!
First of all, I want to thank neobuddy and everyone that he worked with on the ICS Passion ROM. I find it excellent and have been using it for the past week or so.
I do have a slight issue, though, and as I am not yet familiar with mobile development, I am not sure if the problem stems from my hardware or the software. I bought this Vibrant used, though in excellent condition. As soon as it arrived, I rooted it and installed ICS Passion on it. Therefore, I never actually used the stock software, and that is why I am unsure if this issue stems from the ROM or from the phone itself.
Anyway, my problem is that sometimes during a call, my voice will cut in and out very frequently. This occurs with various people and in various places, so it doesn't have anything to do with signal strength. I can hear the other person just fine. It also seems to only occur when I receive a call. Once I hang up and call the person back, they seem to be able to hear me just fine.
I suspect that this has something to do with one of the following:
1) Sound filtering and normalization. The way that the software handles the data that it receives from the microphone. If it was the microphone itself, I would expect this issue to be much more consistent.
2) Which network the phone uses during phone calls. I've gathered that H is for data transfer and 3G is for phone calls (for the most part). Is it possible that ICS Passion somehow fails to switch to the proper network when a call is received? This seems unlikely as I searched through the ICS Passion thread in the dev forum, but couldn't find an issue similar to mine.
Any insight would be appreciated, although I suppose if no one can help out I can just flash the stock and see if the problem persists. If it does, then I can only assume it's the phone.
Thanks!
try v 10 or v 10.6
Mute and then unmute your call. We've had this problem since cm7

Sweet, good to know, thanks. Do you know of a more permanent solution?

I'm afraid to upgrade to v10 because some people have been experiencing issues with their phones rebooting several minutes into the call. I may try it anyway, though.
Do you know if your problem is with incoming calls only?? That's where the issue seems to be, that the mute/unmute fixes. I put 10 on about a week ago, and am loving it. Put 10.5 on yesterday, and 10.6 today, so they are working on it. I think 10.6 might have fixed it for me, so I'm so happy. Thought Bionix was going to be the end of the line, I tried a couple of gingerbread roms, and had issues!

Been on v10 for a week and have not had the reboot problem. I've heard 10.6 has some problems but yeah the mute/unmute bug isn't that bad you get used to it

That's what it seems like. I have not had a single "you sound like you're underwater" issue for outgoing calls.
Thanks for the responses, everyone. I'm glad to find out that the problem isn't with the phone because I can't afford to replace it for a while. I guess I'll just wait a bit and hope that these slight issues get resolved in a more stable iteration.

[Q] Is Skype crackling for you?

I'ts only on ICS rom, before on GB rom it has never come out. I have terrible crackles during skype conservation.
For those who doesn't know what I'm talking about here is a short sample:
http://www.speedyshare.com/4MGV7/sample-crackles.wma
I have done a little research through Internet:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600896
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647711
So I'm not alone. The problem is connected with htc device using ICS soft. I don't know if it's soft related or skype related. Moreover I can say the same situation is in GTA 3 game, crackling all the time, it was mentioned in one of links above.
Does anybody have some idea how to deal with it? It's really annoying and skype is important peace for me.

Hey I also had a lot of problems with crackling speakers on ICS roms. on the thread of the custom rom that i use at the moment (mwakious) there were more people complaining about it. In his latest version he seemded to repaired it if you check the change log. i tried it for myself and i dont experience any problems any more. Maybe an idea to flash that rom? don;t know if you like it but at least you are not bothered with that crackling noise anymore.
Good luck!
It's funny because I use this rom all the time and person who has complaint about it was me . I have the newest version and still have these crackles. Have you done something special or the newest version has solved this problem for you?
'Temple Run' has it too.

[Q] muffled voice?

Ever since i started using the gs3, people are saying my voice sounds really muffled. I am using the omega 5.1 rom. Is it the phone at fault or the rom?
This is pretty much the easiest test ever. How would someone on a internet forum, know if you got a defective phone? Instead of asking people who can't help, help yourself and install stock ROM, then see if that fixes it. That was your question, right?
I use the Omega 5.2 and dont have problems, try another rom and see if the rom or the phone

[Q] Horrible Call Quality

Hey guys.
Here's the problem I'm having. People can't hear me well on the other line. Some have said that they can barely hear me, others have said it sounds all muffled. In searching I didn't find much on XDA, but did find some stuff on google about it being a known issue with the Atrix on stock software.
I tried CM10 first (epinter's thread) and now I'm on Neutrino CM7. I'm having the same problems.
Any thoughts? Is this something that is hardware related, or can a tweak or optimization help it out?
Thanks!
I'm not aware of anyone else around here having this kind of problem, so I would guess it's likely hardware-related. Either that or it's some freakish and unique software glitch. You could take it to a service center and have them clean it up, wipe and realign the mic and earpiece contacts to the motherboard or something (or you can try yourself if you're comfortable with that). Can't think of anything else to suggest.
It is a known issue and I have the same problem. On the stock u can disable noise reduction to get rid of this issue, but it is not available in CM 10

did you find out what was the best rom for you?
because im having the same problem and i tried the eprinter cm10 then the neutrino cm7 aswell and have same results, dont know what rom to try now

[PROB] Distorted, robotic voices during calls

Hey.
I've got an issue that comes & goes with my SGSIII.
I use UltimaROM v16 and Boeffla 5.1 Kernel, and have tried reflashing with no luck.
I experience the distorted voice on calls periodically. Some calls just work perfectly, some just doesn't.
When it does occur, it's almost distorted to the point, where I can't hear what people say. The problem is consistent with or without headset.
Occassionally I start out a conversation with the distortion being really bad (the problem is only on my end). Then, after a few minutes of conversation, it disappears, and the quality is perfectly fine again.
Really strange.
I work as a journalist, which means frequent phone interviewing. Thus, I really depend on being able to hear what people say over the phone when working.
After searching for some answers on the board, I found some users recommending flashing a new modem/RIL.
Problem is: I don't know the first thing about which modem/RIL is right for my phone.
I ran GetRIL and it said "Baseband: I9300XXUGMK6" and "Unknown RIL"
So.. is this still a modem/RIL-thing?
If so, which one should I use, and which modems & RILs fit together?
Please help a new Samsung flash-o-holic out!
Thanks,
Thorm
I'm gonna do a cwm backup & flash a new ROM tonight, just for trial & error.
The ROM: XROM V1.0.3

Try to use your phone some days with GSM network and see if the issue persist. I faced this issue earlier.
Also try to change your Kernel and see if the issue persist.
Lastly if this not solved. Visit sammobile, check the appropriate firmware and flash the original firmware. Avoid using custom ROM as you are heavily depended on the phone.
