I can't get my phone to boot up so I can't use a RUU and when I go into fastboot and select recovery it just goes back into a bootloop I have looked everywhere for a stock ROM in the form of a .nbh and can't find any! Does anyone have one they could share? Thanks in advance! The Rezound doesn't have a Q&A section so I posted here.
*UPDATE* I found the PH98IMG's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365654
I am not at all familiar with an nbh file... Too my knowledge if you can still get into hboot you should be able to ruu.
I know when I relocked I couldn't boot back up with my normal ROM and used the ruu exe file to take care if it.... Try there first

It says in that tread that you can extract the PH98IMG from the RUU which did not work at all and the RUU's don't work from fastboot
Here is a link to a ruu file you should be able to rum through fastboot as all a your mainver is 2.01.605.11 rename as PH98IMG http://www.4shared.com/zip/MNDHXsaC/rom.html

I've had some RUU issues myself but was never able to find these files, so thanks for the link.
One question, did you have to flash stock recovery first, or does the PH file take care of all that clean up for you?

Running the RUU flashes the stock hboot, stock recovery, stock radio, stock kernel, and stock ROM, it is also reputed to wipe your "internal storage".
To return to root, you flash Amon Ra in fastboot and use the advanced menu to re-root, then you can flash a custom ROM and/or kernel.

I ran the RUU from Fastboot, so I know it does work.
why don't you just go back to fastboot and flash the recovery again to see if that fixes it?

I ended up having to return that Rezound because it had something seriously wrong with it. It messed up 1hr after I purchased it, I was on the Market and it went to the HTC logo and just kept rebooting, and the only thing I could do was get into fastboot. When I selected recovery it would just boot back to the HTC screen and when I tried to factory reset it did the same. I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the CWM recovery several times but it still would just go to the HTC screen. When I typed "fastboot boot recovery" it said it couldn't load the recovery. I formatted a sdcard, put the PH98IMG on it, it loaded the image but then would act like nothing was ever loaded instead of asking me to accept the update, and it would just go back to the main HBOOT directory Anyways all is well now Verizon replaced it with no problems as soon as they opened today.

Do you need to be on stock recovery and locked to run ruu?
Did you try doing a factory reset/wipe?
I've read of people doing a full wipe and being able to remove the phone without ruu

I tried factory reset from hboot, but the phone just turns off. I am having the same problem as the OP. See my posts in the Cleanrom 4.5 thread in the dev forum. Do I need to have stock recovery and be locked to run the ruu?
Hey guys I am looking for a little help. I had an IDIOT error.
I have a rezound that I put a custom recovery and unlocked via hosoons tool. Then I flashed a custom Rom (newts hybrid).
Well I started reading about how its easier to flash etc if you are s-off. So I tried restoring my stock unrooted backup. While restoring it failed and I came to find out its because I needed to also restore the boot.IMG. so I went to try and find it and my backup was gone! I have went thru internal and external its no where.
So I reflashed the Rom and boot IMG the correct way and am now running that. So my basic question is am I sol? Am I stuck on this Rom?
Thank for any help.
Sorry for the crappy type out I am at work and just got time to write this up. I will update what I get home.
P.s I did a lot of searching and couldnt find anything.

S On you say...
It's as easy as extracting the boot.img file and using fastboot to install the boot.img file.
Open up the ROM you downloaded and extract the boot.img file.
Place the boot.img in the folder where you have fastboot, ex:
d:\phones\rezound\bootloader\andriod\
Boot into recovery; flash your ROM; boot into the bootloader; then run fastboot from the command prompt:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Good luck and have fun.
Thanks for your reply! But how would I go about getting back to stock? I understand the boot.IMG flashing procedure I just didn't realize it was necessary to restore a backup and now my stock back up is not available and I have no idea where it went so I am running the Rom I stated above with no way to go back to stock.

You don't have to go back to stock to change ROMs. You can just wipe and flash another ROM (including whatever kernel comes with it).
But yeah, if you want to s-off you should be stock. Although now it seems even if you are s-on flashing the kernels is automated. I just flashed EclipticRez and it had me select s-off or s-on, I picked s-on and it made the PH98IMG of the kernel and went to hboot. I just had to say yes and delete the file afterwards.
But you can get back to stock by running the RUU found here:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/
You need to put this on your external sd card, rename it to PH98IMG.zip, relock (fastboot oem lock) and reboot. Hboot will find the file and start running it. Let it run through several times so it gets all the files. It will reboot you once it's done. Then you'll need to unlock again and flash a custom recovery and then you can make a new nand of stock to make it easier to get back to it.
Also, there's an OTA that just rolled out so if you don't want to be bothered by it just don't put the back door on so you won't connect. There's a thread about it in General, seems to be new radios and who knows what else.
But don't you have to be s-off to flash an RUU? Also can you put amon ra recovery on your phone with s-on?

No, you just have to be locked to run the RUU. I'm still s-on and I just did it last night. Then I flashed Amon Ra and then a ROM.
s-off was a later discovery so RUUs and custom recoveries were being flashed by everyone when they were s-on until someone figured out how to s-off.
So while I'm on my Rom I can relock and flash the ruu? Do I need to put the recovery back to stock or will the ruu do that?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
The RUU will do that. All you need to do is put it on your sd card if it's a zip file, rename it to PH98IMG.zip, relock and reboot.
I am sorry for my ignorance but I need to relock first correct?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Yes.
Save anything you need off both cards. Pictures, music, etc... any files at all.
Make a nandroid of what you have now in case anything goes wrong. (I'm sure it won't)
Relock the phone in fastboot:
fastboot oem lock
Put the RUU file on the sd card and rename it to PH98IMG.zip
Reboot the phone into bootloader (hold vol down then press and hold power until you are in hboot)
Phone will find the PH file and run the RUU. It goes through it a few times. The screen will go dark a few times during the process and it will go through updating after each of those times again. Just let it run it's course and it will reboot your phone when it's done. Delete the PH file if it's still there. (I used my orig 16gb card and popped in my 64gb back in as soon as I did it so I didn't check if it was still on the 16gb card or not, but if it is it will run again so make sure it isn't.)
After that you will need to unlock again using your unlock token. If you don't have it still you can get a new one. I just keep mine in my flashing folder on the pc so it's always there if I need it.
Use this command to unlock:
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
Then flash your recovery:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery
Root
Make a nandroid for going back to stock whenever you need to
Flash ROM of choice.
Good luck!
Hey thank you so much for your help! For some reason my phone eouldnt read the PH98img file. So I had to use hasoons tool again and flashed the file that way. Ran it twice and bam back to relocked stock! I really appreciate all of of your guys help!
I do have one more question. Do you have to be s-off to flash amonra recovery? I have read where you don't and where you do...
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
No, you can flash Amon Ra while s-on. Everyone did before s-off happened. I'm still s-on and I just did the whole RUU thing, Amon Ra, new ROM a couple days ago.
Don't forget to make a nandroid of stock right after you flash Amon Ra.
Thanks again! What Rom do you recommend?

I'm glad I saw this thread, because I'm in trouble.
I've been running an ICS rom with the gingerbread patch. But tethering never worked.
In an effort to get tethering working, I flashed the new CM10.1 JB rom. Phone stuck at HTC screen. Did some reading, realized I needed to yank the boot.img out of the zip and fastboot it in. Did that, didn't help. I spent 4 hours last night trying every conceivable order of events. rom first, then img. img first, then rom. img via fastboot. img via PH98update file. Nothing works.
I put amon ra on and started all over again. Ugh. My old Sprint Evo was a tank for stuff like this, I swear you could put anything you wanted on it and it would run fine.
Anyway, I was going to come on here and ask if it's possible to go S-OFF with a stuck phone because it's all I could think of.
But now I will try this relock, ruu, unlock, amon ra, root method.
Here goes another 8 hours.

Good luck! Post back if you have any issues. The RUU took me about 10-20 minutes.
After you flash Amon Ra and root make a nandroid so you can easily revert to stock if needed.
Back up and running. The instructions were well written and easy to understand.
Thanks for all the help!
However I think this time I just want to go straight to S-OFF. I did the htc dev unlock last time, I have no idea where my token is.
I guess I'd rather go all the way and s-off so I can try that JB rom again without worrying about seperating the boot.img file.
So is it possible to s-off my phone with the RUU listed on this thread? And phone currently locked?
Another question. I don't think I've flashed any firmware which means my phone is still running GB firmware. Does that mean I need to always run the GB patch when running IC or JB roms?
Good to hear!
The RUU will have gotten you to the latest firmware if you used the global one at android police.
As to any s-off questions, I'm still s-on so I would get that info from someone else. I don't want to say the wrong thing and get you in a bad spot. There's a long s-ff thread in the general section and I'm sure if you just search you should find the info you need. Or else there's a help thread also in the general section where you can post questions or actually, probably find the answers you need.
Keep this handy for next time:

It works similar to dumlock.
Hey everyone,
So I have successfully HTC Unlocked my Rezound bootloader, installed Amon Ra, and then installed and booted the CM9 unofficial. Problem was that CM9 wasn't quite as cooperative as I'd hoped - it is unofficial, after all, and so I decided to abandon that in favor of Nils' Business ROM. Here's where I ran into issues.
I have tried everything in every order I can find online and think of, including Nils' writeup. So, for the life of me, I cannot get the leaked ICS RUU to boot (4.03.605.2 as listed in his instructions on XDA). Install runs fine every time I do it from the relocked (I checked) stock HBOOT, all steps included. Every time it reboots (and I've tried forcing it back into hboot to do the install a second time) it just goes to the white HTC screen and starts boot looping. Tried it a million ways, no go. Also worth noting - the stock recovery doesn't install properly, either. Some'fin is hinky, here.
So I've tried just "assuming" it went fine anyhow and then proceeding with the install for Nils' ROM and same deal, no go, although with one difference. With Nils' ROM, it does display the boot splash screen "Nils Business ROM" or what have you about 1 out of every 4 "boots" in the loop cycle, and then reboots again.
I think I am going to perform S-OFF tomorrow if I have the time, and then try it again using the S-OFF instructions, but I would sincerely appreciate any help from you all. Honestly, I'm at near wit's end with this device, and I don't want to be, I enjoy this chase too much, but I *really* want the reward at the end of it, lol.
Any help is deeply appreciated.
- Katie
Re: [Q]
I'm guessing because of the corrupted recovery, you have a bad download of the RUU. Try re downloading and check the md5 hash for a match. The ruu should reboot itself after the first pass and end up in bootloader again for the second pass.... If not then after the first pass just hold down power + vol down to get back to bootloader.
Hope this helps

Make sure that you have a booting ROM before you s-off. You will cause yourself all kinds of heartache if you don't.
Using an sd card reader on a pc, check md5 of your RUU zip file. If it checks out good, put the sd back in your rez and do an hboot power on and accept the update again. Report back with your findings. Also you will need to re-unlock your hboot after and install your recovery again.

Right now, I cannot S-OFF because it requires a working stock image, and I'll be lucky to get anything more than CM9 unofficial working here.
You're too fast, now my bad post lives on...
So, when theh RUU failed, you unlocked again, flashed a custom recovery and tried to flash Nils' ROM?
Do you have a nandroid you can try to restore? Even if its the cm9 ROM at least to see if you can get it back to a working phone?

Well that's the trick. CM9 didn't work well enough to even be worth backing up. I'm trying to reinstall it again now just to see if I get there - and it looks like I will. Once I'm back up with that, I'm not sure where to go from there. The phone barely worked under CM9. Really hoping to get Nils' ROM on there, since it gives all the nice features of a stock device without the bloatware. Even if I never get S-OFF, I'll be perfectly happy with just Nils' software.
How about this... did you wipe everything before running the RUU? There's CleanWipe in the Development forum you can flash it from recovery and it will wipe everything 5 times!
This shouldn't make any difference, but there's also a different RUU, the OTA that's not global. You might try that one instead. I'm convinced that sometimes things are just voodoo even when they should be completely logical. That's definitely the case at work on the Avid systems I use.

Your HBOOT is 2.27 and it should say relocked????
It should since you flashed the 4.03.605.2 RUU. The only RUU you will be able to flash since your S-ON is the one found here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390034591667978440

If it does install 100% and boot loops still. Take out the sdcard. Boot into the HBOOT and perform a factory reset inside of HBOOT/Fastboot(NOT IN RECOVERY)

Yes, I am on 2.27 HBOOT.
Point of interest, though possibly unsurprising. When I send the lock command, it locks and reboots, but says "Failed" in my command window screen. Sure this is probably normal since the phone might just reboot before responding to the computer, but possibly an issue.
I believe that is the image I tried before, but I'll do it again both ways to be certain and report back soon! :good:

RUU_VIGOR_ICS_35_S_VERIZON_WWE_3.14.605.12_Radio_RS_1.22.10.0424r_3622A_MR3_9K_release_270509_signed.exe
Found on androidfiles.org/ruu/?developer=Vigor or any of the other ones it fails. Fortunately I have not bricked the phone yet but I am running out of options since android police site has one but says not to use it : This will not work if you used the HTC Bootloader unlock tool. Your device must be fully stock with a locked bootloader or you must have S-Off (method).
Help please!!!
Try this link here http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Vigor and download the PH98IMG_ICS_3.14.605.12.zip! Do not download any others. Rename it to PH98IMG.zip and flash in bootloader. It should allow you to flash it.
If I'm incorrect on something someone plz correct it

After you rename it place it on the root directory of the SD card. Then power phone off. Then press volume down + power so it boots into bootloader. There it should ask if you want to update. Tell it yes. It won't brick you as its the same s/w you seem to be on. Worst case it won't flash.
Edit: make sure you verify the md5!

What message do you get when running the RUU, also what Rom were you running prior to relocking?

My rezound is semi-bricked currently and I am also looking to get back to stock form. I think the most current ROM that I had on it would be like Infection2.3. But I cannot seem to get past the boot animation and I believe the RUU needs to be actually booted up all the way? I will check the Hboot versions and such when I get home. (I tried a ph98img in the root but when it attempted to flash I got "HBoot version is older than expected, exiting")
Any thoughts?

Remember to flash a ph98img zip RUU, the bootloader must be relocked and internal storage will also be completely wiped. Backup the contents in recovery using usb mass storage mounts.

Sounds like all that needs done is a factory reset(wipe caches+data) and wipe system. Re-flash a Sense rom and fastboot flash the matching boot.img. Try my rom Viral OTA, just the data/system wipes prior to flashing and it willk get you back up to 100%. Rememer to reboot to bootloader if using TWRP.
Hi,
I have a Sprint HTC Evo3D
-HTCDev "Unlocked"
-Shooter XC Ship S-ON RL
-HBOOT 1.50
-TWRP Recovery 2.8.7 Loaded
I'm trying to make this phone usable, and all guides kind of shoot me in dead end. Nothing is working, and i tried flashing a bunch of random roms.
Can anyone give me directions, or point me in the right direction? I'm looking to revert this to a stock rom or something usable. Preferably the latest Andriod revision. I don't care for root, or anything special... I just need the wifi and browser, this isn't a service phone.

Try to flash boot.img from the rom.rar that you have installed. What is your radio baseband version?

How do i tell what radio baseband do i have?
When you say try to flash the boot.img, do you mean literally "fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img" to the system? I grabbed the VILLUMINATI-08152014-shooter.zip & it did flash via the TWRP, but did not boot up afterwards.

No, actually "fastboot flash boot boot.img" to the system. Just extract boot.img form rom.zip and put it to your ADB tools folder a hit "fastboot flash boot boot.img" command, try it. Does bootloader shows your radio version? Check that.
villuminati, liquid smooth both require s-off and specific HBOOT.
you are s-on. cm11 won't run.
try a stock-based rom, those should work.
oops, read closer, you're not finding stock roms.
this one works ok without s-off on the two 3vo's I tried it on.http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-evo-3d/cdma-development/rom-3d-anthology-12-18-2014-t2977403

I tried flashing the base, waiting 20min, and got nothing. The phone is stuck on the white HTC boot screen logo. I then flashed the badassrom over it, and got the same result. FYI, i'm using the twrp recovery to flash both these roms.
Does anybody have a link to the stock rom? I tried the "PG86IMG_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304-signed.zip" and it seemed to be stuck also.
Any other ideas?
you could try flashing an official RUU
they're posted in the stickies somewhere.
that'll rewrite all your firmware to something that should hopefully boot up.

When you flash the RUU, is that running through the executable? I find that impossible b/c it requires you to have a working OS first to start off with? Can you flash a RUU with fastboot?

there's .exe ruu's for window$ fastboot and PG86IMG.zip files for the root of your SD card in fastboot. since the phone's gotten long in the tooth a lot of links are dead so you may need to hunt a bit.

Couldn't' find much working links on this forum, but i googled & found "PG86IMG_Shooter_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2_Radio_1.09.00.0706_signed.zip" on other forums. Renamed it, rebooted to bootloader & this phone is alive again! Thanks for the help
