[Q] 32gb??? sdhc card - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I've already ordered for a 32gb card make : strontium class 10. Read the reviews and it looked safe.
Wanted to know if any one is using a 32 gig sdhc? And if there are any non normal experiences with it...eg : like slow , time to open stuff which opened better on 8gig.

I use Team 32GB Class 10 without problem

Using a 32GB class 4 - pretty sure it's Micron? Either way, media scanning on bootup takes a bit longer, but otherwise works just fine.
L4T

32gb microsSD cards are okay but in my experience not yet as reliable as smaller sizes, say 16gb. When they first became widely available early in 2011 they would fail without warning. Things have improved, but still, they can fail sooner than smaller capacity microSD cards. Stick with a known company brand like Transcend, Lexar, or Kingston.

Using PNY class 10 here, OK so far, but I've only had it a few days.

I've been using a 32g, class 4 SanDisk for about a week now. (Late bloomer to the View-LOVE IT!) I haven't had any problems, hopefully, that continues.
On another note, I've had a 32g card in my EVO phone for a while now and no problems. *crosses fingers*

Hey i just got the card delivered. I was not sure reading strontium brand, but for the price i took the risk
I transferred data and i got 10.5mb/sec fluctuating between 9-10. so the card is definately class 10.
i tried my usual movies and opening heavy pdf's and it did well.
As far as it quiting on me is concerened the site has given me 5 year warranty... So i hope all goes well

I've been using a class 4 32gb card in mine since December, and I haven't had any problems whatsoever. It's worked well, and the speed of the card has been better than I expected.

Taking delivery of my phone soon.
What's the latest on microSD cards?
Are 32GB worth it? Do they work?
Any particular minimum Class I should get, even if I have to get 16GB?
Thanks

am using class 6 works fine.
I use an 8Gb, class 4 without any issues. Resco is installed on the card.
Although if your going to flash a ROM from a micro SD card use one < 8Gb.
Thanks,
Al
From my experience, it's not the class or size that matters. It's the make. (Obviously a smaller card with a higher class will have faster r/w speeds, but that's not usually a noticeable issue.)
I never buy any SD cards now that are not SanDisk, and I can't remember the last time I had one that didn't work.
Some brands seem to get a lot of complaints.
The class wouldn't really matter if you're just using it to store data/apps.
I use a Nokia N900 and run Android off the SD card. A higher class gives a better speed when running an O/S off of one. But using one to store data/apps wouldn't give a noticable advantage of one class than another.
Obviously the size does matter but depends on what you'll use it for.
Plus for flashing use < 8Gb.
Thanks,
Al
PS. I agree with the brands. I don't buy cheap non-branded ones. Although I've never had an issue with any of the 'cheap' ones.
The size of the card depends on your needs. If you cram a lot of stuff in there or apps, then aim for 16gb or 32gb.
You can find 32gb on amazon from $70 up (sandisk, kingston, dane elec -- those are deem legit 32gb cards) and most of them should give real class 4 performance (even when they're listed as class 2 like sandisk).
For me I like San Disk, but I want to test Toshiba 16GB Class4.The seller told me that Toshiba quality is good also and I decided to buy it.
Never had any problem with file transfer and running android on SD card.
I've used it 4 months now.So far so good.
I use a kingston 8gb class 4.. Never had any issues with performance
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I'll probably run Android off the card initially with the standard WM 6.5 tweaked. Maybe put some SatNav on there too.
As for Apps depends what I come across. For WM I have an old large build of offline Wikipedia and some dictionaries etc.

I had my 8GB SanDisk in my G1 for 2 years, then my HD2 for about 8 months, then randomly one day it stopped working.
If I plugged it in, all of my content appeared on the phone such as pictures. Then after about 30 seconds it would freeze, and then the phone would say no SD card is inserted. I managed to copy all of my pictures across on the PC luckily before it froze.
Granted it was old - but they do fail after a while.

What memory cards are people using?

The reason I am asking is this:
When I bought my nook, I put in an 8gb (4) Kodak that I already had and not a problem with anything. I recently bought a 32gb (2) that I found for cheap and it formats ok, but when I put book or music on it, the nt dumps half or more of them into the lost files folder. Just acting screwy so I figure that this card is not going to work for me. What are other people using?
I'm using a 32GB PNY class 4. No problems at all. I wonder if class 2 may cause problems?
I'm using a Class10 PNY 16gb card, It was cheap on Black Friday.
If any one gets the Nook-Tab to boot off a card, you will want to do some digging into what has quickest in the 'small block read' category.
All i wanted was some cheap storage, so i just got the the PNY, in practice i have no problems playing 720P on it, and i don't think it will be even close to a bottle neck playing 1080p either.
Check newegg. 32 gigs there for under 50, 15gigs for around 14, etc. i have links on my dropbox thread
I got a Sandisk 16gig, class 4 from Radio Shack for 16.99. I formatted it in SD Formatter 3.1 and have had 100% success with it on every download.
I started with an old 8GB Class-4 SanDisk and move on to a Class-10 PNY. The difference in file transfer is critical for me, I add a lot of contents and remove them when I'm done.
I wanted a card quick. I found a 16GB Lexmar at Office Depot for $18.
It's working fine, but has mostly data so far.
I did use sd formatter in every way possible, wiped the nt, formatted with the nook, all ended up with the same result. Has to be a card issue. More than likely it is because it is a (2), but not sure. Just a heads up to make sure you check the number before buying memory.
I'm using an Amazon Basics 16GB Class 10 card that I picked up from Amazon for $25. It's been working very well, and the speed tests out to what a Class 10 should run at.
I'm using a SanDisk 32GB class 4 card. According to SD Tools, write speed is 4 to 5 MB/s, read speed is about 18 MB/s. I haven't had any trouble with data files, but haven't yet tried to watch any videos from it.
san disk 32Gb class 4 $36 newegg. Works fine got it about two months ago when I saw the price.
Random SanDisk 16GB that I pulled out of an old OG Droid. It works as it should and I haven't had any issues with it.
I plan on using: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BOMU3K/ref=pe_175190_21431760_cs_sce_dp_1
class 10 32gb for about 50 bucks, just waiting on the nook now.
There are lots of places that sell 'hacked' flash drives that report higher capacity then they actually are, you'll get lost files left and right with them. The SD card's wont look any different then a real one, they just aren't. Best to avoid any deals that seem too good unless its direct from one of the big vendors.

I just bought this Lexar 32GB for $47 (when it was on sale):
amazon.com/Lexar-MicroSDHC-Memory-Reader-LSDMI32GBSBNAR/dp/B004AM610M/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I formatted it using the SDFormatter program posted in another thread here.
Transferring 192 ebooks (about 370MB) from Calibre to my Nook Tablet took about 3 minutes which is much better than my 8GB Class 4 SD card I was using. It would have taken like 40 minutes for some reason.
home.comcast.net/~nirvgorilla/calibre-nooktablet-lexar_32gb_transfer_of_192_ebooks.png
If I get one, I'll grab a 16 gig sandisk class 4 for 20$ on the newegg.
I ordered a Sandisk 32gb Class 4 from Amazon for $35 (free Prime shipping) to replace a 16gb I took out of my Iconia A500.

32 GB PNY lass 10. Working well.
I think you want a fast card. Where you can have issues is if you want to run your OS off of the SDcard. I did this on my Nook Color. Then it was very fussy about which card to use. For just storage (which seems to be all you can use the card for on the NT), I think any class 4 and up card will work.
Transcend Class 4 32GB from Bestbuy, $45. But I had a $25 gift card, so I used that to eat some of the cost.
Works great.

Save money and stick with class 4 or 6. Booting off sd for NT is not in the foreseeable future as of now.

TitaniumBackup?

I have the Pro versions and backup weekly. I just noticed, it was taking 3.5Gb of internal storage so I offloaded to desktop, then deleted. phone seems a little faster? not to mention I would only really need it if I lost phone, so being on card would be no help. what do you all do?

Odd that you mention it, I have Lexar 32Gb Class 10, nothing on it. I keep everything on my desktop (naturally) but I use ZumoCast.
Anything above a class 6 doesn't really benefit on a mobile phone (especially android) Supposedly its actually bad for the SD card. I had 2 different brands of class 10 including lexar and it will only read at about 6mb. I paid extra money for nothing because my 16gb class 4 sandisk out performed them both lol.
The lexar fried by the way because it couldn't handle the constant flashing and whatnot probably. He rage quit on me!

I agree, and I disagree. I originally had a SanDisk 32Gb Class 2, I found a cheap KomputerBay 32Gb class 6 I got. The SanDisk was 3 times (seriously over 3 times) faster so I returned it the next day. When I lost my phone last month and I saw the Lexar Class 10 for $60.00 I got it? I have not done any benchmark test, but I'm happy with it.
I have heard that for most, its an overkill. But I have also heard it all depends on what your doing? I would assume games like GTAIII and MW3 would benefit from the faster reads as would HD Video?
Not my field of expertise, but Im happy.

SanDisk 64GB sdxc $79 at Best Buy Class 6

Hope this hasn't already been posted, figured it was a pretty good deal.
64GB Sandisk
Thank you so much for posting this deal! I surfed through my wallet and through all of the left over best buy gift cards I had I ended up with a free 64gb microsdxc! This was an amazing deal to begin with, but you just cant beat that!
Nice, not to bad at all. Glad you got one!
Don't forget to reformat the card in your phone - or else it won't work.
I've had mine for 4 months I think? It's great - I love it. I won't be able to live with less memory ever again - which will be a problem with most of the next gen phones seemingly going away from memory cards.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so yet (64gb).
This link shows benchmark pics of a class 10 16gb vs. SanDisk class 6 64gb, and the SanDisk is actually faster than the class 10 card.

I wish I knew what brand that class 10 card was. It's garbage. I just ran that tool thrice and my average read/write was 10.9/4.9MB/s respectively with a Class 4 SanDisk 32MB. That said, I'm also pretty pissed I paid 65 dollars for this card when I could have gotten better speed and more powahhhh for not much more if I waited. FML.
In case anyone doesn't know, the class rating on these cards is the minimum write speed the card will achieve, provided you're not copying a movie from a USB 1.0 PC or something else that would bottleneck it.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
To be fair you can't go with the read/write on a card unless you test empty. My 32GB card surpasses the Class 10 it is if empty but get near full and it' just below a Class 6. So the tests mean absolutely nothing unless you are testing with an almost full card. It's time I moved to a 64GB card my 32GB is too full with the games on it.. LOL
Wrong.

Is it formatted to a FAT32? That will probably save you from most headaches. I've had my 16g for almost 2yrs with no probs. I save tons of crap on mine. Movies, music, roms, apps...etc I haven't had a problem as of yet.
Wait....I sent this with Tapatalk?
did any of them happen to be sandisks, directly from sandisk website? I have NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH sandisk, IT MUST BE authentic though. Used a micro sd card for the past 3 years, still works.
depending on what you use your micro sd for it depends on what class you should get, a higher class is not always better for your purpose. A higher class has better sequantial read write, while a lower class has a better read write. If you transfering files all the time, I'll stick to class 2 or max 4. If you're trying to shoot movies more of the time get a higher class. there's been a topic on classes of microSD, honestly you don't need anything more than a class 2, it has plenty more write speed than is used by our phone to shoot HD video.
ALSO lower classes are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY less prone to get corrupt. keep that in mind next time.
SanDisk is ALL I will EVER buy.
I've git a 32GB class4 that I bought before realizing I need a class6 for 1080p video recording almface: but I've had no issues. I've also had an 8gb class 2 that's NEVER had issues (other than writing really slow) and I've had it for yrs now

I picked up a class 10 Kingston 16gb on sale about 2 years ago and it's been working great. Loaded with movies, music, games, roms, etc... Use it everyday.

Must be bad luck. I have a 16gb class 6 that I use in this phone and my last phone. So close to two years old now.
I have an Adata 16 gig class 10 SD card that eventually went bad on me. They are supposed to have a lifetime warranty so I'll see if I try that.
That microsd gave tons of headaches. My Droid 2 would start acting funny once it went bad. It would freeze, pics would show up sometimes and sometimes now. Lots of forcecloses and my computer would read and read it. I pretty much had to reformat it to get it working again but a few days later the problems would pop up.
I went ahead and bought a samsung 32 gig class 10 once I got my Amaze. So far so good this thing is even supposed to be water proof with a 5 year warranty. It was around $37 from Fry's.
