LED charging light - Motorola Photon 4G

Well did you have it on your other phones and wondered where it went on the photon??? Well try galaxy nexus led (just read the description, works for the atrix which is pretty much the photon) works great for me, now I know my phone is fully charged or charging *note* only shows different colored led while screen is off

LED notification light

Is it just me or does the led notification light seem very low? If the phone is laying down flat it's very hard to see if your not lookin at it directly is anyone else having this issue as well?

I consider it a feature..I can accidentally set my phone face up at night without a notification lighting up the whole room and waking me up. It's all in how you look at it I guess!

I agree that it's not very noticeable and I like being able to see it. One of the smaller issues I have to complain about right now though.
i agree, does not light up the whole room. My old EVO used to do that. uggg
I want to know when the light is going to work at least how it says in the manual
Okay thought it was only me. Yeah other than that I love this phone especially how fast it charges!
Yeah I thought the same thing when I first got my photon, I don't mind it though, and your right it does charge super fast,

Well, until you mentioned it.................Yes, its low unless I'm actually looking at the phone (and this likely saves battery?) BUT, as stated, I dont want my bedroom glowing when I'm sleeping either. Not like I would get up and actually check it anyway!

[Q] LED Notification Frequency

Has anyone found anyway to change the frequency the LED flashes with notifications? I've searched around and haven't found anything. I tried out a few apps but none seemed to change the power button LED.
Nope, i was fine with it until i saw my gfs gs3 light up like an xmass tree to let her know she got a text message.
Ours works but its pretty lackluster.
The only hope for a faster LED is when the ROMs start coming out that give control of it. And who knows if it'll even have the ability to be changed then. Stuck with a 25 second gap (for now).

25 seconds between flashes!? I've seen a E971 (Rogers variant) flash its front notification led and it was on for about a second off for two.
Can anyone clarify the blinking pattern on the AT&T model please? I'm thinking of getting the AT&T version due to expandable storage...

25 seconds (may)be a little drastic, but no one's really sure why there's such a time difference with the notifications.
Next time you get a text or something, check how often the light around the power button goes off. It's pretty annoying.

Well I checked for ya, and it turns out it does take about twenty five seconds for the power button to glow red. You have like a two second time frame to see it lol.

Thanks. So is it 25off, 2on, 25off, 2on, etc or is it just an initial 25s?

Its minutes between blinks it feels like.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
It's definitely just twenty five seconds haha. If your phone is locked during the time you get the notification, the power button will immediately glow red for about two to three seconds, turn off, and the light will come back on in twenty five seconds and so forth.

Very much useless compared to other phones I've had. With the long intervals between blinks and short duration of the blink, I almost never notice it. I just periodically hit the power button to see the lock screen rather than try and wait out the indicator light.
It's really only a problem if your phone is on silent and you haven't checked on it every once in awhile.
A theory to negate this minor flaw is to have a repeat notification (sound) feature for when you hear your phone but you're too busy to check it.
I'm not sure if this option is available, and if it's not, maybe it could be suggested to a dev and implemented somewhere.
Sometimes the charging indication stops blinking too at about 80%, although I thought I read somewhere the batteries only really charge to 80% to last longer, so there may be some tweaking that needs done. I like the gradual brightness it does too sort of how the HTC Fusz phones would look like they are breathing when charging.
My SG3 did light up like crazy, but was too bright and only worked with Samsung apps- K9 Email for instance had weird blinking and only blinked in the default color which for a tri-color was a waste. My Atrix HD blinked all the way home from the Activation SMS then never blinked again for the whole week I put up with it then returned it, so I think I can live with 25sec for now. It kind of reminds me of Knight Rider too and I like Red over blue/green.
Yeah my roommate actually has a SG3 and her LED light drives me insane. It's just way too bright, frequent, and distracting. Not exactly a phone you can sit on your desk and just ignore while trying to do something else.
Has anyone tried something like light flow from the play store to see if it can change the interval?
I've been following this phone because I hope to steal my wife's upgrade next month . I haven't fully decided, but I'm really leaning towards the lgog.

Edit:
It looks like a recent update of the light flow app added nexus 4 support, so that might be useful for the lgog.

Light Flow now works with it. Sometimes when I hit the power its a little buggy and doesn't turn the screen on but not to annoying. Thanks!
I got the LED to blink alot.
Rooted with esFileExplorer
Open /system/etc/system.xml
Change notification_light_pulse from 0 to 1.
Save.
Enjoy

Care to elborate on this a little more? How often does it blink now? Does it change the notifications at all? I don't want to go changing things without knowing how it affects other parts of the phone. Any information would be appreciated!:victory:

[Q] Did I get a defective LED indicator?

Hi
Just got home with my Note 2 and have been loving it except for a possible issue with my LED light. When charging and the screen goes off, the red LED comes on which is good, the issue is that it is very dim. The odd thing is that when I power the device off and leave it charging, the LED indicator then turns bright red like it is usually supposed to be(like it is on my S3). I was just wondering if someone could power off their device while charging and tell me if the red charging LED is brighter than when your device is powered off than when when it's powered on.
One other issue is I tried to charge the Note 2 using one of the many Android charging cables I have laying around and when I use anything other than the charger supplied in the box, I get an intermittent tone and the device will not allow me to turn the screen off.
Would be much appreciated if someone can test these two possible issues and let me know if theirs does it too or if it's just mine.
Thanks for your time!!
I believe the led light is sensitive to light, meaning it will be dimmer in a darker area and lighter in a lighter area.

That was it bro, thank you!! I was doing all of this is a dim environment and after reading your post I grabbed a flashlight and shined it at the front of the Note 2 and at first no change....but then all of a sudden it switched to the bright red LED. Big time thanks man I was not wanting to have to go back to the store and exchange again. I already had to exchange the first of for what was either a stuck pixel or dust under the screen. This one the screen is perfect so I want to keep it.
Can you or anyone else test a random charger for me and see how the Note 2 reacts. Wondering if this thing needs to be used with the supplied charger to not make this sound and the screen staying on. The odd thing is I just tried my Nexus 7 charger and it works without issue but all my other chargers act wonky with the Note 2. Again man thank you for your time to post it helped me out big time

Used my gnex charger and supplied one and both work fine

What's with the notification light on this thing?

Is it normal for the notification light to barely work? Most of the time it barely works, but once in a while it comes on. Same with using light flow... Same condition. I am stock, rooted, Trinity kernel, nothing else. Anyone have a perfectly working light? I've tried factory reset, re flashing, etc. I am hoping this isn't a hardware problem but I think I would take a good screen ice a good notification light.

Mine hasn't worked since I got it last week. Reading around the forum it would appear that it is not uncommon. I think it is a bug within the OS, some folks have had luck forcing it on using some app in the Play Store, while others have not been so well off.
Some people have had success getting the notification light to work by rebooting when charging. This worked for me but I know it hasn't worked for everyone.
Problem must be in Google software. Mine too was the like described above while stock. I just installed AOKP & the rom has a led-light settings control. In it you can set colors, blink time & rate, etc. Works fine for whatever you have set it for.

It's really weird that some people on stock are having problems with the notification lights... I'm assuming you have the settings for pulse notification on... and also that you know that on stock, the LED lights up only when the screen is off...
That said, I've had no problems with the LED notifications with custom ROM (my AOSP+, AOKP, CM10.1 & Evervolv)... haven't use PA, so I can't comment there!!
Only saw this while on stock. No issues with CM10.1

I've gone through three units for various issues. The first two had a perfectly working LED, the one I kept only works when booted while plugged in. So it's random and not a user issue at all.

If it isn't user related then is it faulty hardware or Google software?

Wait a minute. This thing has a notification light? I received mine yesterday and it hasn't worked yet. I charge it and nothing whether it's on or off. Can I turn it on?
Edit: WTF!!!! Just to make sure I plugged it in while the screen was on and nothing. I will give this tablet some credit on the the quality and awesome hardware it has but just from having it since yesterday I'm getting really pissed at the lagging in the browser and gaming. I know I can install the aokp browser and that will fix one issue but to fix the other I'm going to have to install an overclockable kernel to boost things to see if it helps. Then from what I've read, once you do that you might have overheating issues!!!! Geese!!!
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda premium
The notification light works once you restart the tablet with the charger plugged in
Just throw lightflow on it and be done with it. Mine wasnt working either, but put lightflow on it and it works great now.
Nine kinda does it's own thing. We have an understanding.

All of the units I've had so far have had a working notification light no matter how I've turned it on. If yours only randomly blinks from time to time, RMA it.

Easier said than done. The replacement may have light bleed or dust under the screen. The three replacements after that might have issues too.

Once I switched roms it was fine. It's all in the stock ROM. Cm, pa, etc all have good notification light operation.

Guys don't get me wrong. I love this damn thing. The screen is awesome and I installed ocean browser and disabled chrome and it Friggin FLIES in internet browsing. Was getting very frustrated yesterday though until I installed the new browser. One problem solved and only one more to go with stopping the lag in gaming. I know the hardware can handle it but I guess it's down to the thermal throttling from what I understand. If we can fix that and keep it from overheating this thing would be unstoppable.
Edit: the notification light thing just irritates me a little having spent over 500 on this thing and it everything not working out of the box. I know I could fix it with light flow but I shouldn't have to do that.

App for capacitive buttons ?

on old gingerbread phones without led notifications there used to be a kernel maybe Franco don't recall that had the ability to flash the capacitive buttons. That would be key on our G anyone know if its possible?

Bln support. Built into kernel. Then the app will work
the best phone ever
Yes that was it I remember the app and the kernel dependency now if someone would do this lol

Crazy enough there is an app that can do it. It's working on mine. You wouldn't expect it to work though but it does. The app if Light Flow. You have to enable the app to control the buttons light. It does work but seems to cause a full wakelock.

From my understanding that only Samsung phones can use bln. But on another note why would you want that when we have a very bright led on the power button?
Edit: while that would look clean with the front buttons for notification that would give some drain battery drain not worth it to me since we already have a led light for notification. While wouldn't be my first choice for the location, they should have done it like the sprint model.

Aside from the side location, the other issues with that notification light are 1) the fact that it only blinks ever 30 seconds or so, with no option to change the frequency, and 2) instead of an RGB LED, apparently LG only put a red one in, thus making it impossible to differentiate between different notifications.
If frequency can be fixed, I'd be happy. Otherwise, getting the capacitive buttons to each indicate a certain notification seems like a great alternative.

There would be so little battery drain you would never notice. Also, if you turn off the red led and only use the front capacitive leds the "drain" would be equaled out. I used BLN before and it is amazing. Would love to see it on the LGOG.

Well I notice it blink every 5-6 seconds for a minute or so. But in a dark or lit room I can see it just fine. Only thing I don't like that it on the side should have been on the front like the sprint model. And still don't see why they made the phone different anyway. Just glad the att model has the sd card slot
