I got my motorola photon from japan, and it has been locked on au kddi network.
I have unlocked it to work in Croatia, where i need it.
I can make and recieve calls, and receive sms, but sending sms seems to be locked somehow.
I can't send sms from "go sms" as well. All i get is "sending sms not available". I even made my own app, and no luck, same message appears. There is no sms icon in contacts, and in default sms app, there is no option to make new sms or anything usefull.
Sms center is loaded correctly from my sim card.
I have set up apn-s, but i don't think thats relavant.
So I rooted my device, and now I'm in search of how coud I make this sms to work.
So I ask you, what settings should I look for, and shoud I replace something with something from verizons photon android?
Have you tried downloading Google Voice? It uses a completely different service, but if you had a Gvoice number, and an account, you could send SMS that way. It should work fine out of country. I use Gvoice whenever I travel because it's cheaper.
Thank you for suggestion, but I mainly use sms for paid services like public transportation, parking, etc... so I really have to enable native sms service.
Currently I'm exploring: system/framework/framework-res.apk
As I've seen in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17578600#post17578600
I've unpacked apk, but there aren't any permissions explicitly set as in this thread.
But I found some file in apk, under raw folder which states:
com.kddi.android.intent.action.LOCKSMS_RECEIVED,com.kddi.android.permission.RECEIVE_LOCKSMS,2,0x000E,0x00,,,,,,
com.kddi.android.intent.action.KUPSMS_RECEIVED,com.kddi.android.permission.RECEIVE_KUPSMS,2,0xFFFF,0x01,0,3,0x000701,,,
com.kddi.android.intent.action.UNSUP_SMS_RECEIVED,com.kddi.android.permission.RECEIVE_UNSUP_SMS,0,0xEF43,0x00,,,,,,
com.kddi.android.intent.action.UNSUP_SMS_RECEIVED,com.kddi.android.permission.RECEIVE_UNSUP_SMS,0,0xEF40,0x00,,,,,,
com.kddi.android.intent.action.UNSUP_SMS_RECEIVED,com.kddi.android.permission.RECEIVE_UNSUP_SMS,0,0xFFFF,0xFF,0,2,0xEF44,0,2,0xEF55
,,1,0xFFFF,0xFF,0,2,0xEF56,0,2,0xEF7E
,,1,0xFFFF,0xFF,0,2,0x0002,0,2,0x005F
,,0,0xFFFF,0xFF,0,2,0x0060,0,2,0x00AF
com.kddi.android.intent.action.UNSUP_SMS_RECEIVED,com.kddi.android.permission.RECEIVE_UNSUP_SMS,0,0xFFFF,0xFF,0,2,0x00B0,0,2,0x00FF
com.kddi.android.intent.action.ESIGNAL_RECEIVED,com.kddi.android.permission.RECEIVE_ESIGNAL,0,0xFFFF,0x01,0,10,0x5349474E414C5549443A,,,
So I guess this is step forward... now I'm not sure is this just a log, so I have to find and kill this process, or just delete this file...
I will update when I find the time to deal with this problem.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated
Bricked it! help needed
OK, i succesfully bricked my phone by changing that file.
Now my question is how to get adb access with bricked phone.
It is in infinite boot loop, but I can access recovery options, fastboot and others. But adb don't reckognise it. It is only recognised in some usb mode but as offline.
I tried factory reset and wipe, but that is something differnet i guess. Probably my phone is unrooted again too.
I have backup of original framework-res.apk file I just need to push it but don't know how... please advise.

SMS
We've sent and received SMS with the new ROM. Could you describe the problem in more detail? Do the SMS messages just seem to go into a black hole both ways, or does some kind of error happen?
i fixed it already, i just didn't get the messages, and ppl told me they've sent me. but i installed afterwards the sms_fix.cab, and suddenly it works again.
thanx.
sim card holds sms messages
Hi all,
I have a same problem. When people send me a sms, I cant get it from my xda. But if I remove my sim card and use it another regular phone, I see there are lot of sms messages.
What is sms_fix.cab?
If this cab is for show names from sms messages, I have already installed it.
I use XDA-Developers.com special edition rom v 1.1. My boss had got a old bios. I try to upgrade his bios, but he has got still same problem.
My problem have started after new bios. Both of us can send SMS.
ROM Version: 3.17.03 ENG
Radio Version: 4.01
I dont want to hard reset it, because I just finished to install of hundreds of tools also I dont know it will work or not!
What can I do?
Thanks a lottt.
Rom as given but still can't send sms
Hi
My rom version is 3.16.32 ENG, Radio version 4.20.00
I have the phone unlocked with the xda manipulator (now using vodapone) and had received a sms message successfully from a colleague but I just can't send a sms. I clicked on the contact and tap "Send SMS" but it just don't do anything and when I tap on "Send SMS" under the tools menu in the phone , it also don't do anything. I read that someone said caller2picture prevents someone from sending sms. Is this true? Can anything be done to make it work even with that software installed?
Would appreciate any help or advice.
Cheers
Vic
HI all,
For the benefit of forumers- a cold boot restored full functionality of my sms service. Must have accidentally deleted some important files.
Cheers

I just got my Atrix yesterday, I seem to have the issue where it wont successfully log in to google talk which also means that I cant download apps. I've tried making a new account which also failed to work. Are there any ideas out there for how I could fix it?
Can anybody help me?
I had the same problem and figured out that it was Droid Wall keeping Gtalk from connecting. Make sure Talk can access the network freely.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Real solution

After cloning a samsung gio s5660 through a CWM backup I started experiencing the same issue. Heres What REALLY happens.
Google authenticates you in their services trought unique "keys" which are automatically generated upon system installation / factory reset, so if you clone your device or install a rom which has these "keys" pre-installed, obviously, your rom will only autheticate you in google servers if your phone is the only one using the service at that given time... Upon failure, your phone assumes to be the one who's wrong, and google servers won't autheticate you until you either tell your phone he is not wrong (by deleting the data from play store, which resets its status and errors) or you change the "keys". SO, what can we learn from this? deleting the play store data IS a temporary solution, and won't solve a thing. Let's delete the duplicated keys shall we?
Navigate with your favourite folder explorer on your android (I use X-plore, you can tell me anything, there's nothing better) to the following directory:
- "(root)/data/data/com.google.android.gsf"
Now you have two real options, either you may delete the all folder, which was the perfect solution for me, since my rom is prepared to re-create it upon phone restart and new keys will be generated, OR, you might want to just delete the contents of app_sslcache inside com.google.android.gsf whish are THE KEYS I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS ALL TIME, YEEEIHHHH and reboot your phone...
Needless to say, take a nandroid backup before you do any of this...
Thank me later
For those who remember me from symbian s60v3 phones, yes, it is me, I'm back, and I've moved to the droid world, it's much better indeed
Let me just say, I have no idea why this thread was moved or resurrected. Whoever did so was about a year and a half too late. Please close/delete this thread.
Hi guys, need your help. I can't seem to be able to activate Viber via SMS or Phone Call code. Each time I put in my phone number, the number will not be 'saved' in Viber and thus, the activation code will not work. I been trying to clear cache, reinstall, delete all memory from viber but still it is not working.
I am so lost and any suggestion on how I can activate Viber on my phone?
p/s It was working fine until yesterday as I did a full wipe on the phone. After installing back, everything goes hair wire!
Please assist and thank you.
I am in Mumbai India

I have a problem on my Galaxy S3, running android 4.1.1 on Vodafone network in the UK. It is not rooted.
I want to make sure the phone is unlocked before buying a sim card for use in France
Using the stock dialer, "*#7465625#" gives me "ussd code running" followed by "Unknown command".
Looking around elsewhere, others have blamed it on Mobile Tracker, which as far as I can see, I don't have. The only solution I have seen is a factory reset, which is a scary prospect for me, not having any idea what that entails. And then reinstalling apps one by one until the culprit is found. I have also seen comments about ussd security issues. I am slowly heading out of my depth here (I know my way round windows quite well, but phones are unknown territory for me,).
I am hoping some clever souls on this forum might be able to help. Is this a known, and solved, problem? Or is a factory reset my best bet?
If I have to reset, I know where the reset is in the menu system - on the same page as a checked box saying backup. So...does does the back up happen automatically or when I press reset or have I got it completely wrong? If not, which files do I need to save away from the phone? What happens to things like contacts I can remove the external SD card, so that won't be an issue. How do I reinstall the apps, particularly the ones I have already paid for?
I have spent most of the afternoon tried to get a handle on this and my head is spinning now.
Any help at all, would be very warmly received.

1st solution : root your phone, very easy procedure then you can flash the same stock ROM from sammobile.com to become unrooted again without wiping/resetting your phone.
2nd solution: download APPSAVER from market for free, then you can save all the applications you have downloaded but not the DATA (for example you can save the game itself but not the progress you have achieved)
as for the contacts, go to the contacts folder - menu import/export - export to usb storage and voila all your contacts will be written in a single file that you can import after you reset your phone
as for SMS, you can download "SMS Backup & Restore" from market for free to backup then restore your SMSs
after you perform the above, go to Settings - Back up and reset - Factory data reset and your phone will be back as you received it.
On the other hand if the phone is locked you can always unlock it using Voodoo S3 on the Play Store, it can sim-unlock your device if you're rooted of course.
Great reply, thank you!
Rooting...a bit loth to do that while still under guarantee and at my level of experience. One day I will get hold of an old phone and try it with that first.
Appsaver - what a brilliant app, thank you again. If it is one particular app that is the problem (and that is the sense that I get from elsewhere), then I can use this to back up my apps, uninstall them all, check for the ussd error. If it has disappeared, then reinstall apps one at a time until the error reappears. If it hasn't disappeared, then I can go the reset route, after backing up contacts and SMS.
Thank you so much for your help.

Ah. The more I try to read up on this, it feels the more lost I get.
How do I check whether the phone is unlocked...borrow someone's micro sim card?
I just followed Sony's tutorial on their developer site (can't post links…) to unlock and flash the ROM to AOSP. I also compiled manually the kernel in the process. I imported my mmssms.db as well to keep my messages.
The stock messaging app kept crashing when opening a conversation, so I tried to clear the mmssms.db, but then I simply can't get to the redaction screen. I can select contacts but that's it. I tried another app: it can send SMSes successfully, however I don't receive anything.
That's probably a bit confusing but I'd like to know where the issue could be, where to look and/or what useful debug infos I could get & share.
----- EDIT -----
I tried to put my sim in another phone: works
I put another sim in my phone: can send, can't receive as well.
Flashing it with the same bootimg and system without importing the mmssms.db fixed it. To be sure, I imported it again and it did the same as before.
It therefore seems that the replacing the DB is a bad idea, there must be another way.
