Recovery like clockwork or ruu
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

like clockwork that i can use to install zips with. im trying to flash a custom recovery

Bump* I'm currently on unlocked hboot 1.5 I don't care which recovery to flash. I've been trying to flash team win VIA rebooting the phone and install manually but it keeps saying that "main version is older" I've tried quite a few files from searching over Google

If you unlocked your phone then the folder you needed to root has the recovery in it. CWM*.Img

Which folder

You could download rom manager and flash it with that.
We're comin from a pure power source.

I just flashed it via fastboot. It worked.

ummm, why? pointless.........
just flash a recovery via fastboot search for the guide on how to do it. your problem is then fixed.
yeah tryied fastbooting and it said it was copied over but same issue
and as for rom manager you need superuser to do that so no it wont work
Install it from the market. You may need to install busybox too. Should work

Help getting recovery on 1.5 hboot

I recently replaced my phone and got 1.5 hboot. I tried pushing recovery through adb but couldn't get it to work. Then i tried using the zip method, but got a message saying "main is older". Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

First, are you unlocked, if so, have you tried flash image GUI? From my own experience, only a few recovery versions work with hboot 1.5 s-on. I'm using cwm 4.0.1.4, I think twrp 2.0 works also.

Hmm, wish I could help more but I haven't seen that problem. Maybe try a different recovery?
Have you tried entering recovery via fastboot? I haven't had success on my 1.5 phone without using the fastboot method (with a compatible CWM).
I got it to work using flash image GUI. The zip for the ROM wasn't working bc it was a bad download. Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Desire X Dead

I flashed a kernel using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools&hl=en
My phone was rooted, s-off and running vimiro rom.
Now my desire x wont boot, or go to recovery, its just stuck.
Tried flashing kernel again via fastboot, flashed. Still nothing.
What should I do now this is ****ed up.
Additionally on bootloader it says "PROTO UNKNOWN' like wtf unknown?
try flashing an RUU....
If you can't do that, put necessary flash files to sdcard, then boot to HBOOT... HBOOT should flash those files for you hopefully....

Where all can you go?
Recovery? Emergency/download mode? Or anything else?

Yeah. If you still can access fastboot, first flash a working recovery (best choice now seems to be the TWRP from InfinityShooter). Then you can reflash Vimiro ROM from there.

ATT Lollipop/KitKat Firmware Update signed/encrypted/custom

S-on users will need to relock/lock bootloader before flashing.
S-off users can simply flash using either method below. I also have included an S-off only option which i removed the boot and recovery img from (perfect for users on custom roms who only want to update firmware)
Option 1) Use fastboot to flash
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ATT444firmware.zip
*** If any message appears about reflush and flash run above command again ***
fastboot reboot-bootloader
**** this firmware has both stock boot and recovery so flash your custom rom's kernel and/or your custom recovery NOW before rebooting****
Option 2)
Rename zip file to 0P6BIMG.zip and place on your external SD card. Reboot to hboot and allow bootloader to update/flash
Download Links Do NOT mirror these elsewhere.
Stock signed/encrypted (includes stock boot and recovery)

OMG I LOVE YOU :fingers-crossed:
This is REAL developer spirit!
i did option 2 and it goes thru the phase in bootloader, and when it boots i hear the boot up sound but stays on the HTC screen, but i can hit the vol up and i can hear the sound like it did a reboot but its stuck on the HTC screen. any ideas?
I think you will need to reflash your ROM as dottat did not specify if he had made the package for s-off not to wipe. Generally during firmware update, it will wipe clean the phone to reset partitions, I am assuming. If you come from gpe firmware, best to reflash because gpe and sense have different partitioning.
Hold power+vol up to force shut down then use power+vol down to get to bootloader and enter your custom recovery from there.

Firmware won't wipe.
That said I believe by second option he meant SD card method. If he's s on he will likely need to reflash his roms kernel (boot.Img) via fastboot after unlocking again.
@hauntyu
Just pull the boot.img out of the zip of the rom you were running and flash that in fastboot mode after you unlock your bootloader again.
Which method would I use to flash the ruu or download because Im gpe and it says when I run the ruu its the wrong image.

You would need to set your cid and mid back to stock. Then flash the firmware only zip I posted in my other thread. Then factory reset. Then flash this ruu.

You have to flash stock 4.4.4 recovery and then relock. Then you can either download it from the other thread where it's posted and manually flash it in recovery or do it the regular way through update.

Flash this stock 4.4.4 recovery...

then fastboot oem lock
then update...
your rom you have right now must not have ANY modifications other than root or the update will fail (hotspot hack/sd card fix/etc).

You are gonna need to lock using your pc so your pc is required anyways. Make sure you back up your stuff before you unlock your boot loader again as it will factory reset your phone to do so.

I'm trying to get back to stock, but I'm S-On. Every thread I've seen (including this one) requires S-Off and I can't find instructions on how to relock the bootloader from S-On.
As I posted elsewhere, I've tried to run SunShine, but it won't work with LiquidSmooth. The couple of "stockish" ROMS I've flashed haven't worked and I've had to reflash my backup.

Flash a stockish Rom and then separately flash the stock boot.img from the 4.4.4 firmware zip. Sunshine will fail on any Rom that uses a non stock kernel. Even debug turned on in kernel will cause it to fail.
OK so then it should go something like this..
1. Connect phone to PC.
2. Move recovery file you linked to my android folder on PC where my fastboot files are.
3. fastboot flash stock recovery
4. fastboot oem lock
5. Reboot
6. Take ota.
Am I missing something?

Evo 3d gsm bootloop after successful ruu.exe

Hi guys. I have a really weird problem especially cause I have successfully done ruu.exe many times without any problems. But now my evo won't boot even after ruu.exe finished succeffully, have tried multiple times. Just to mention that months before I did this ruu, I've installed a custom kernel "MiRaGe" and everything was good, till a couple days ago when I tried to boot into 4ext recovery and it didn't boot at all, tried 3-4 times, no luck, but the rom was working fine. (I haven't tried to boot to 4ext since installing a custom kernel) Now I relocked my phone to install ruu.exe, it finished successfully, but can't boot now. I have also unlocked bootloader again and have flashed recovery and still couldn't boot to recovery. Then I relocked and did ruu.exe again, but still no luck with booting to rom. Also I've tried factory reset in bootloader after finishig ruu.exe and the same thing.
S-ON
Unlocked
Hboot 1.53.0007
Radio 11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262714_signed

Please help, I need my phone really bad. Thanks.

Yeah and I've tried "fastboot boot recovery.img" command to boot to recovery, it was success but again the phone restarts. And just to mention that I've also tried cwm recovery but the result is the same.
I suppose that my evo is a true brick now :/

Try 4ext recovery, fastboot install recovery 4extimg.img and after that reboot into recovery. If it enters recovery install a close to stock ics rom, with 4ext smart flash enabled or extract the boot.img from the rom and install it through fastboot (fastboot install boot boot.img).
I can provide you the latest 4ext recovery img, pm me if you need it.

Already did that with 4ext and cwm but none of them won't boot to recovery, but for the rom, i did ruu.exe after flashing recovery (that won't boot) and after relocking, then I unocked bootloader and flashed boot.img from the same ruu.zip, but no results, bootlooping. I think nothing can be done, it's a brick.

You flashed the ruu with the exe though windows or through sdcard? Did you try to remove the sdcard? Try fastboot wipe or format recovery before installing the new img.
