[Q] HP Touchpad and device recognition in Android Market - TouchPad General

Hi,
As ICS ROMs appear for the Touchpad, there are ways of fooling Android Market and the apps themselves into thinking they are running on a different device. I know of changing the build.prop file.
I flashed a particular rom and hoped that when I set up my google account, my previously installed apps would start downloading from the market as I had apps and settings backed up through the options.
After I had flashed, my touchpad didn't start downloading my previously installed apps via the market or sync any settings. When I looked on my settings in the web version of the market, my previous incarnation of my touchpad had been removed from the device list and replaced by the freshly installed one. I could tell because the friendly name given to my device had disappeared and make and model had returned to HP Touchpad (It was previously set by me to Samsung and GT-i9100 through the build.prop file)
There were 3 other devices in my list, my current phone, my old phone and the CM7 version of my touchpad. This has lead me to believe that under the hood the market must be recognising the device from poissibly some serial number / ID of the device and the version of android running. I am thinking it can't just be the serial as the CM7 entry would have gone when I installed and linked the CM9 version.
So the market has removed the old CM9 entry and added the new CM9 entry, so it knows there is a link, but has failed to then get my apps and settings back. Is this due to the Make and Model no longer matching?
I hope somebody knows how this all works and then maybe we could have a sticky to advise when reflashing your device what to do to make sure the market sees it as the same device so the app restore and sync work ok.
Thanks everyone
Jason

You should just use Titanium backup to restore your apps and settings. However I know that when I signed into my google account, my TP started downloading apps i have on other devices (however I had ICS on my nook before, but not currently; maybe thats where it was getting it from).

Missing Aps

I've upgraded my HTC Hero GSM to Froyo 2.2 with CyanogenMod 6.0
I've lost my apps - including the ability to sync with google (only exchange account listed) and no marketplace
I have the apps backed up on my computer AND SD card but cannot find anyway to reinstall them on to the phone without installing another 2.2 which comes WITH the apps - which I am reluctant to do since the CyanogenMod seems to work great
Any ideas anyone?

[Q] ""App name" could not be downloaded due to an error (-101)"????

[Q] ""App name" could not be downloaded due to an error (-101)"????
Hi, I have a TF101 now running krakd and a t-mobile g2x running miui
Yesterday, i did a wipe and flash krakd 1.4.2 on my tf101 (was from revolver). Then i signed in with my google account as usual. However, when i tried to download apps from the market, it says: ""App name" could not be downloaded due to an error (-101)".
Then, I checked my phone, which is still running miui, suddenly, it could not download apps from market either. (. The thing is that I have not flashed anything on my phone lately.
I created another google account and it works perfectly on the tf101. But when there are two accounts at the same time (on the tf101), it still does not let me download apps.
So I think this must be some kind of issue with my google account because it affected my phone as well
Please let me know if there is anything I could do. Cuz I use my gmail. I dont want to make a new email account. that sucks
Thanks so so much
I also faced the same issue when i flashed a new rom on my t-mobile g2. after the first boot, it started downloading all the apps that i had previously installed. and after some time I started getting this error. googled it a bit and discovered that its because google has some unspecified limit of data that you can download from the market on a given day (24 hours). you should be able to download apps again after the 24hr cycle completes
try clearing cache as well data of market in manage applications in settings menu

[HELP] Google Play Store: Server error

Please see my thread in General Q&A:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746101
=========================
GT-i9100 ICS 4.0.3
SOLVED , by factory reset
The most important clue i got was from a google reply i found on their forums: Gtalk app wasnt working either, so i dindnt have a connection to their servers.
I did a factory reset and reflashed my used rom, then CF root. Google play worked.
For this thread not to be so boring, some trivia:
I didnt do a standard backup. I entered all the settings by scratch. I did backup my contacts, memo, calendar, sms, emails with Samsung Kies. Restore worked without problems. I had these games with some progress, so i copied everything from /sdcard to my computer before factory resetting. I installed the games from google play and without starting them, i copied all stuff i found about those games back to /sdcard and /sdcard/android. Everything was where i left them, didnt have to login or something...
I suspect that i uninstalled some vital service that google play needs to run like maybe gtalkservice, but i cant really tell what happened. And what i especially dont get is why didnt the missing services or whatever didnt reinstall just by flashing, before factory resetting, like the app market did, cause thats what i tried in the first place.
All those infos about regional settings, market enabler and that sort of stuff were misleading for me! I guess it wasnt a server error after all.
Heres a very nice link with important/unimportant programs that galaxy s2 comes with. Cant really understand the language its in, but that table is very useful: YES NO and CAUTION with their respective colors says it all:
???( cant paste link due to foreign characters, using xda app)???
So just google for "mygalaxys2.com sammy apps", its the first link, then scroll down to the table.

[Q] Changing ID for backup in Google account

Can anyoen tell me if and how I can change the identification for the settings backup / restore in the Google account on a rooted device, resp. what is used as identification there?
Situation is as follows:
- old device had a sudden death and the Titanium Backup was unluckily on the internal SD, not on the external one (don't ask)
- device got replaced
- device rooted and CM 10.1.3 put on it
- selected to restore from Google account
- now it started to install the huge amout of apps that was installed on the replaced device
- this at some point broke and the remaining apps just had error 920 and were not installed
- I just wanted to try it again, so I made a factory reset
- same as before, but now ALL apps got the 920 error and nothing was installed, so I assumed this was probably some anti-DDOS thing in playstore and thought I'd try again after some waiting period
- after waiting some time I made another factory reset, but now it doesn't even try to install any apps but does nothing
I assume that, after the last failures, it rememberd for the specific device that nothing is installed and thus does not try to install anything again now.
Thus my idea to change the ID with which the backup is identified per device.
I already tried to change the Andriod ID with Titanium Backup and to do another factory reset, but that doesn't really help either.
Hopefully someone of you can help me with this.

[Q] Directory Bind with Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hi there,
After screwing up my Samsung S3 and until I can somehow get it fixed, I am seriously considering purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but really 'only' if I am able to successfully root it and able to run ''Directory-Bind' on it as I do on my S3 now. Could I get a thumbs up here that Directory-Bind is compatible with a Galaxy Note 3 running Android 4.3, or if if it's not compatible, a suitable alternative, as I want to be able to mount an external SD card and run apps/games from that, as I do now with my S3. If Directory-Bind isn't compatible with, can someone please name me a good suitable alternative that is?
As usual, if this question has been answered previously, my apologies.
Thanks in advance.

You need to post in the note 3 forums.
Do you have a s3 i9300? If so why not post whats wrong with it and see if we can get it sorted.

Sorry, my bad, my post was 'supposed' to be in the Note 3 section, I don't know what happened.
Someone already addressed my S3 problem in another thread( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...3-question-t2690307/post54013380#post54013380 see below) , but I still haven't been able, due to illness, to fix it.

I'm in the UK and rooted my Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) well over a year ago, using, the CF Root method from these very forums.
All had been working just fine until about a week ago, when I (stupidly) installed an apk that was 'supposed' to add KitKat features to my stock 4.1.2 ROM. It was from this article "http://androidcritics.com/get-android-4-4-kit-kat-android-devices/" that I installed two of the provided apk's, namely 'Google Home' and 'Google Velvet' (an apk that claimed to add 'Google Now' features to my ICS ROM). Now, I so regret taking the risk of installing those two apk's, as now, as soon as my SGS3 has booted up and detected the 64GB SD Card (running with Directory Bind), I get a message that states 'Unfortunately Google Search has stopped'. When I try to open Google Search, it says unable to load data, and trying to run Google Play now always says 'No Connection, retry?' All was fine before I installed those 2 apk's. Even when I try to download something via the Play Store in Firefox on my PC and try to send that to my SGS3, that now fails too. In-game purchases won't connect either (No Connection, again) I'm really confused, because some apps connect to the Internet via WiFi, such as Dolphin Browser,Yahoo Mail and facebook; but, ANYTHING to do with Google, including GMail seems not to or just plain won't connect, although Google maps does connect.
After this problem started, I immediately, using Odin 3 v1.85, successfully flashed my SGS3 with CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar, but that has made absolutely no difference and has fixed nothing. My phone is way past its warranty, so getting it fixed by Samsung is out of the question, and my only (hopeful) solution is to ask you guys for a working fix/solution, please?
I've connected my SGS3 to the latest version of Samsung KIES (via USB) on my PC and KIES states there is a software update for my phone available (it doesn't however mention what the software update is or what for), but it says I may lose data on my phone, and I don't want to lose my data and settings; so, somehow, I'm going to need to make some kind of backup, yes? What would be the best application for backing up my internal SD to my PC, as I unfortunately don't even have space on my PC's HDD to make a backup of that at this time.
My SIII states there are 600 installed applications (of which the vast majority still function just fine, except some that need to connect to the net via WiFi (some will and some now won't)), that I really haven't got the time or energy to reinstall all of them again, so can someone please point me in the direction or post(s), explaining the best way to back up my internal memory and settings (I don't have the HDD space to back up the entire data contents of apps on my external SD card at the moment, so I'm guessing backing up the internal 11GB will save all the relevant data I need). I'm sure backing up like this has been covered in a separate post, so any pointers to those posts would be useful, thanks.
But the most important thing for me at the moment are to get my Google Services and Wi-Fi issues fixed.
One last problem.....When I try to open Applications Manager in Settings, it stays open for about 10 seconds then force-closes. I'm guessing that having the high number of installed apps n games installed is causing this, is it? Because of this, I don't seem to be able to delete the davik cache on things like Google Play, etc.
I've managed to reset (global) App preferences in Applications Manager, but that's as far as I can get in there before it force-closes itself.
I've tried logging on to YouTube, using my regular Google account, but nothing happens.....I don't get it. Would I need to remove my regular Google account from my phone and then fill it in again??
I even reinstalled Google Play (Playstore v4.0.27.apk) and Google Search, but both still don't connect to the Net.
If you have any other questions regarding my problems) or need any more details from me, to help with a solution to these problems, then please go ahead and ask me. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to put is as much detail about my problems as I could.
Many thanks in advance, sincerely, Al."
Briefly, the problem is, I tried installing a couple of APK's on my rooted 4.1.2 Samsung Galaxy S3 that were supposed to install Google Now. They pretty much did that, and it's working, but it has screwed up just about everything else Google-related, including Gmail (just always force-closes), Google Play (won't connect), Now, when I try to log into my Google account on my S3 (with my correct email and password), I always get the message "Couldn't sign in - Can't establish a reliable connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your Android device may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care."
This was never a problem before since I removed my Google account from my S3 and tried to add it again, in order to try to fix the problems with Google Plat and Gmail. Now, Google Plus doesn't work too.
Everything else, all apps n games, including Wi-Fi connection to my router work just fine, except connection to the Play store and trying to update or add apps to my S3 via my PC.
I've been told to download an original stock 4.1.2 ROM in zip format and stick it on my external SD card, but I have yet to find exactly where to find a stock 4.1.2 ROM in zip format in order to put it on my external SD card - any pointers would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I hope this covers everything for a minute.
Cheers, Al
