Aluminium Backplate Problem! - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

HI xda Community,
I have a problem: I have a scratch on the aluminium backplate. Is there a way to brush it up, or something like that?

Just kidding, I really don't know what would make it look like stock.

Put a skin on it so it covers the scratch and looks good.

Anyone know of a chemical that can turn the aluminum to plastic?

I was going to say cut a huge hole in the back to get rid of the scratch, but yours was better!

Sodium hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide will react good with aluminum. It eats away at it, can thin up the aluminum so the reception can eventually pass through.

[Q] battery cover peeling?

hi guys,
i recently noticed that there is a layer on my battery cover which seems to be peeling off of late, near the top of the cover where you normally take off the cover. anyone else facing this problem?
Several people have reported this in the past, you need to be careful to not over flex the back when removing, replacement aren't expensive though
ah its because of flexing... doh! thanks!
do you know about the paint on the rim of the phone then? a little bit of the blue paint has sorta chipped away even though its always been in a cover. really weird.

Same again really,I believe they use a laquer coating so it's prone to peeling, just one of those annoying design flaws, I believe the s4 bezel is aluminium
you've been a real help, thanks!

[Q] Protective Plastic?

This might sound like a daft question, but after receiving my G Watch this morning and taking off the protective plastic on the back and screen, I noticed there is some more plastic stuck on the sides.
However, these pieces of plastic do not want to come off very easily, and leave a small amount of sticky residue. I'm wondering if they're meant to be left on the device.
Does anyone know either way if these pieces of plastic on the side are to be removed?

I see the bits you mean, they look like they should be removed, but for some reason when you peeled them off you didnt get most of the glue off, im thinking i may leave them on so the edge of the watch doesnt get scratched

Yeah. I decided to bite the bullet and peel them off. They weren't easy to get off, but after rubbing my finger over the area they were stuck on to, it seemed to shine up and match the finish of the rest of the watch.

Slickwraps Natural Install

Well, got a surprise from the post office as they delivered my skins today! Just installed the Distressed tan skin and wow, I now have the sexiest N6 ever! Thanks so much @slickwraps! I did take the stock plastic cover off and I am using a old skin as a base layer below the leather skin. Sits flush with the phone now and looks like it was made to be there. The leather is top quality, smells great and is super grippy, way grippier than the carbon fiber skin I had. Because this ****s flush, you can use any case you want. I am using the Ringke Slim fit for when I'm at work. Enjoy the pics.

So you removed the actual phone back that has the dimple and "Nexus" on it?

You still can if you remove it properly so I wouldn't worry.

Yes, you can probably tell from the black around the trim that this started as a blue N6. Just sanded away.
Looks good.
This is soo cool, well done! Also, the metal part is awesome! I am still waiting for my leather to arrive from slick wraps. As you have stated in your post, you have put the leather on top of your old skin, was it due to a thin leather? Or what was the reason?

Thanks!
First reason was because I wanted a buffer in between to cover the holes(pattern)so the leather wouldn't show these "dips", just a smooth leather back. I also wanted protection for the ribbon cable for the side buttons that runs back there, I didn't know how ofter I would be swapping skins and I didn't want it pulling up on that ribbon when I took it off.
I also have the Bamboo back and a extra middle housing and I can tell you that the bamboo won't work as is. It's maybe .2 inches too wide so it bows in the middle. Not a huge problem since it's Natural wood and can be sanded very easily(carefully)to fit. This is what I'm going to do. Just take about .1 inches off both sides and it should be Golden.
Awasome!
Regarding the sanding of the metal part, how hard was it to sand the buttons? I have a white version of nexus, but now seeing how brushed/polished metal frame looks makes me think of doing same ?!

I left the buttons just natural aluminum. My hand was sore from polishing the frame so I gave up lol!
I just did the same thing with mine. I was ****ting bricks while removing the back plate in fear of damaging the ribbon cable, but damn was it worth it.
I'd post pics, but having nothing to take pictures with at the moment

[Q] Materials used in X1/X2?

Can anyone enlighten me (and perhaps the community) what the Honor/Mediapad X1/X2 is made of? I've read about aliminium and on the back side two pieces
of plastic for the antenna, etc. There is no Gorilla glass I believe? Also, what about the chrome trim around the display, is it plastic or metal?
Cheers :good:

The backside of X1 is aluminium except the upper and bottom portions that are plastic. The chrome trim around the display is plastic. I don't know about X2 as I have not seen it.

Thanks for your input. How do you know for a 100% that the trim is plastic? I reckon since the X2 is pretty much the same as the X1 it should be the same material. I worry that the chrome looking paint will fade/chip very easily...which was the case with Sammy phones for example.

Yes I am pretty sure. Accidently, a TV remote landed on my brand new X1, it chipped the chrome plating on the trim exposing black plastic.

Haha, your remote did it for science, I'm sure. I'm certain the X2 is the same then. Strange, since some others seemed adamant in claiming it was made of metal. This could be a deal
breaker to me, since you can't fix it once it's chipped or faded. Damnit.

Question Pixel 6 - are anodized case available?

Guys, does anyone know if anodized cases are available just like for the apple phones.?
For it to be anodized, you mean you're looking for an aluminum case?

Pretty nice sturdy case but it say the 'protective cover' for the screen is NOT tempered glass! Notta BIG deal but if the polyurethane cover is well attached, you may need to cut it close with an exacto razor knife. I had to with a mil-spec poetic HD case. For $50 it should come with tempered glass, ffs. Let us know how it goes if u get it!

Tempered glass
I find it hard to believe that putting your phone in a metal sarcophagus wouldn't impact cell reception. dbrands Damascus vinyl even impacts signal (minimally) and that's just a tiny sliver of metallic foil.

Well believe it. There's no metal where the antennas are. Plus, to actually BLOCK RF requires an electrical connection to ground.

I'll take your word on it not blocking the antennas, haven't had a Pixel since 3XL.
I'm not going to get into an argument over the last bit and am not responding further but that is entirely false. Tell that to a Faraday cage.
