Raxr maxx gsm? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Will moto release gsm version of maxx?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App

I don't see why not.
It's the same as the Razr. Different battery and back.

I don't see why they would myself as the battery life is excellent with the gsm model especially with the 2.3.6 update. I think it was needed with the LTE version as 4G really drinks the juice. I have no problem getting 1.5 - 2 days with moderate usage and GPS, wifi all enabled and music playing to and from work etc

You fool I need two batteries to get trough the day with my HTC Desire, (3-4 hours calling, 50+ sms, 50+ email, navigation, browsing, music, games,...) so I really need a MAXX type phone. If they bring it out, i'll be the first to buy one. I would never buy a normal RAZR, as it's not that special, but that battery life defenately is. So Moto, if you read this: PLEASE make a GSM version.

That's a bit harsh! - Aren't we all friends here?
If you don't think the Razr is that special then why bother with the Maxx when you can get extended batteries with larger covers to accommodate most smartphones for a reasonable price?
That way you can get a phone that you DO think is special and that suits your needs for battery life.

Thanks. I realy wish they release it sooner.
I have a sensation and note, but the sensation battery sucks specialy when i run.
I think waiting for droid maxx or buying sensation xe edition.

Would love a GSM version of the MAXX. Would last 3 days easy on 3G and light gaming!

There is a conversion kit out there.. Starts shipping April 2012..

the RAZR MAXX wont' be coming to Europe, if that helps?
Dear Mr xxx,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
We are very sorry to inform you that there is no plans regarding the release of the Motorola Razr Maxx in Europe.
Regarding your second question, if you are a developer we would like to recommend you the Motorola Razr Dev, however please keep in mind that this phone comes with no warranty. You can buy it from the following link:

Well you can buy one for Europe. A Gsm version has been made
Ask us any Android Related Question @FeraLabsDevs on Twitter

Where you can buy that in Europe?
And is there an official release that it's available for GSM? As China has CDMA also.

Yes, I understand that.
But where does it say there is a GSM version in China? The press release doesn't mention anything like this (or I've read the wrong press release).

Droid X2 from USA to India??

Hey people!!
Just wanted to know if I can be lucky and run this baby in India on a GSM network?
If so, how and what do I need?
Someone is coming from USA...but what about the contract with Verizon??
And performance wise which is better X1, X2 RAZR or Bionic??
Thanx!
You can't run this phone on a GSM network, it is a CDMA phone.
Contracts from foreign countries are something you need not worry about.
I suggest the Droid 2 Global for use on a GSM network. My dad has one and it's great.
I think the only one of those that is a "world phone" is the Droid RAZR. All the others are CDMA (and LTE in the case of the Bionic which does take a SIM card but only for LTE). Droid RAZR seems to be GSM compatible, and has the same specs as the Bionic, as well as an improved screen.

He's right. Go with an already GSM phone if you're going to use on GSM. Motorola Atrix is Tegra 2 like Droid X2 but with more RAM, and Atrix 2 is TI OMAP4 like D3, Bionic, and RAZR, and has an improved screen over DX2, D3, and Bionic.

I lol'd. Srsly I don't think the RAZR Is even globabl capable, if you want a strong phone that's global I'd say Atrix or D3. Bionic and Razr prety much the same, 200 mhz difference which I'm sure is a result of the Bionic being underclocked. Im sure that'll be fixed soon since the source code has been released. Razr does have super amoled but it also is pentile, same w/ the Nexus Prime. Built in Battery in the Razr for me no bueno, and no SD card on the Nexus = da fuq.
They announced there will be European and possibly Asian versions, but it could be like what they did for the Droid 1, made 2 different phones that looked the same with different antenna's, Droid and Milestone. Either way, launch is what 2-3 weeks away, lol.

Carriers in India aren't that strong a player...but I will keep a check...also, the Droid X2 is cool, but CDMA...anyway to get that working outside the current network...? I mean it will be Verizon, but here it will be Reliance...so anyway to get that working here..?
I would say, tell your friend to call Verizon and ask to have it unlocked. Once he/she gets to India they will have to give the MEID/ESN numbers to Reliance. Then, will probably have to open new service with them and get a new number. Verizon uses a specific spectrum range for CDMA, thus why the phone doesn't work on Sprint's CDMA network. The phone may, or may not be compatible with Reliance CDMA, but I could be wrong.

thanx! That helped me make my decision...Droid RAZR or Bionic. Mostly it will be RAZR.
In India, CDMA isn't as strong as GSM. Anyways...thanx everyone who replied. Every answer waw helpful. Just a question, more to myself than to U guys, why would Motorola make such a cool device wig CDMA technology and not GSM?
Anyways...
Verizon outweighs all GSM competitors in the US. They know the users typically who want the most bang for their buck android device want it on Verizon before with 3G CDMA and now 4G LTE and CDMA. Our GSM providers are horrible.

Even though I feel the Razr is a superior phone I dont think there will ever be a dev scene even like for the Bionic. If there isnt one yet there most likely wont be unfortunately. The Razr was over shadowed by the release of the GN and with a locked bootloader why invest your time into it? The dev's have pretty much gone from the bionic too. The only reason it was getting some love was because of timing and the GN wasn't out yet.
I think the GSM version might get a little bit due to its bootloader being unlocked but even now there doesn't seem much. Shoot compare it to the GN a week after release and it has a dozen or so ROMs already.
Droid is a name registered with Verizon ... notice that all phones named Droid are only on Verizon and no other network ...
As for Dev scene... give it time .... amazon thanksgiving sale helped the Droid RAZR base to grow huge ... and within month time came nexus with icecream sandwich which devs were eager to get hands on.... I think RAZR will get support at least after it receives ics

Correct. US Phones use CDMA radios and other countries use the GSM. I don't think there is a "world" LTE phone yet.
I know I just saw a posting earlier this week about how Europe finally got the HSPA+21 and will get the 42 later. It talked about how they were testing LTE in the UK but were talking about a period of 3-5 years before it even starts to roll out. Maybe when the UK gets LTE they will be compatible.
The US has the best radios even tho we don't always get the best phones.

Can a gsm /system/app dump be used on the cmda razor to restore the stock /system/app or do you have to have a /system/app dump from a cdma razr?
USA is neither the first nor only country with LTE.
In Fact, the world's first commercial LTE network started in Sweden in December 2009 and now they're already testing the next generation, LTE advanced with speeds up to 954mbit/sec.:
http://www.intomobile.com/2011/06/2...dvanced-sweden-hits-954-mbps-download-speeds/
Also in Germany LTE is already available in most major cities and I guess it's also available in some other European countries.

Droid Razr MAXX GSM Version Confirmed!!!

The Motorola Press Release says it all. Won't be long until we see this in other parts of the world (or some people hopefully successfully flashing it with English Stock ROMs). I was waiting for the MAXX conversion kit and was gonna get a Razr but this seems like a better option.

Total ****s. I contacted them last month and they said they would not be releasing the Maxx for the UK/europe. I went ahead and bought the normal RAZR.
Is it really GSM version?
yeah does china operate same GSM radios as the rest of the world e.g. australia?
China uses both GSM and CDMA from what I can gather but LTE is in small scale trials apparently.

The Droid RAZR MAXX is XT916, not XT912. We don't have a model number for the Chinese release yet. Only the CDMA versions have LTE support thus far.
Given the poor track history of getting functional branded Chinese-market devices on the secondary market/the variety of wireless tech in use there, I highly doubt a GSM RAZR MAXX released in China will be of much use to many users outside of China. Not really something to celebrate just yet.

Installing a GSM radio on a CDMA razr

Just wondering but can it be done? afaik the two are identically hardware wise right? I got my mitts on a CDMA razr but gsm signal on it sucks big time and i've been trying to find ways of improving it.
would the bypassed bootloader be able to stop me from doing so? Would I get a hard brick?
The ICS release will make the Razr "global" (GSM+CDMA+LTE).
I'm on the .79 leak, with AOKP and mine is a global phone.

I'm pretty sure the GSM razr doesn't have lte. If it did, it would only work for Verizon (my reasoning being that if the DROID RAZR has GSM, and the normal RAZR has lte, chances are they are built the same way with software tweaks) Of course.), none of this matters if the GSM RAZR doesn't have lte, which of probably doesn't.

yeah I mean the XT912 or the Verizon edition razr.
I am running a ICS leak but the signal is really bad and on top of that I cannot add a vodafone APN, as such I do not get any roaming internet aside from Wifi I can find. I would try flashing the modem on my own phone but I have heard of stories of CDMA phones bricking when flashed with a GSM rom.

AFAIK, there is the Droid Razr, and the Droid Razr Maxx. There is no hardware difference between a GSM or CDMA phone. If you have a Moto schematic diagram showing some other difference, then post it.
The only hardware difference the two devices above, is the Maxx has a bigger battery.
Everything else is software, and that changes with ICS.
Napoleon said 'To find if a thing is possible, try it.'
Wait for the ICS release and see if it works, or install the .79 leak and see if it works.

Suggest a dual-core android phone

Can someone please suggest me a few dual-core android based phones? I was away for some time and so I was not able to keep up with the new releases and with the price drops of the old ones.
I'll be using it outside US so it should be SIM unlocked so that I can put any GSM SIM.
Can be a World phone or GSM only phone.
I can consider buying used or refurb phone.
Should have good dev support.
Budget is $150-$230
