Accessing network resources - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi,
I tried searcing the Prime forum but couldn't find anything. Since the Prime is connected via wifi on my home network, how can I access like folders and files on my other pc's that are in the same network and also my NAS storage in the same network. I know printing is not possible unless you have 3rd party software like Printshare and others.
Tried to go to MyNet and seems this is just for media like music and streaming purposes (not sure).
Please advise and thank you for you input.

FileManager HD works well

ES File Explorer is sweet too. Lets you browse and play/stream/copy stuff from your LAN

[Q] Need help finding SMB shares (WDTV Live specifically)

The built in media apps are supposed to be able to connect to SMB shares, but I've yet to be able to connect to my WDTV Live using any of them. I haven't tried setting up any Windows shares to see if the combination fares any better.
I can, however, connect using ES File Explorer and ASTRO. ES File Explorer is actually able to find the SMB share on its own (smb://192.160.0.12). With ASTRO I need to specify the address. In any case, both apps can connect, I can copy, paste, and otherwise interact with the WDTV.
Unfortunately, whenever I run one of the stock media apps, it never finds any SMB shares.
I tried cifsManager, but based on the error messages, neither 2.1 or 2.2.1 on the A101 comes with its own cifs.ko. Perhaps one could be built for the A101, but that's beyond my level of knowledge right now.
The WDTV Live is running stock WD firmware. I've been thinking about loading brad's firmware, but I don't know if that will make any difference with this issue.
Any thoughts on what needs to be done to get this all up and running so I can stream right from my WDTV, rather than copying from it and then playing the video?
only works with dnsnames (as far as i know).
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, from Windows machines I am able to connect to the WDTV at '\\wdtvlive'.
I'm running DD-WRT on an Asus WL-520GU. Is there anything I can do with that to resolve the issue with the A101? Maybe setting up something with DNSmasq?
heard the same from some other users using a IOMEGA HDD NAS.
I have no problems using SMB with a Buffalo & Linksys NAS but I'm interesting in the solution of this issue.
So it seemed to be working with the latest firmware update, except that it's unbelievably slow at listing the share contents.
Now, after a reboot, it's either listing contents even slower, or it's not working past log in to the WDTV.

Connectify installs on your pc (whatever has the connection to share), and creates an Access Point using 2 connections: 1.Your internet connection 2. The connection you'll use to share the first. I was able to get it working with just my one wifi conn. on the laptop. Its a nice program to use for boosting the signal, or file transfer.
It also has it for Android in 'Private Beta', they allowing testing (signing up). I havent tried this.

I was inquiring about this before on here and stumbled on this program. Hope it helps
If you have already set up file shares on your PC< and you just want to stream from within your network, you can use CIFS.
get CIFSManager in the market. plug in your PC's Ip, directory and password, and the share will show up on your tab as if it were any other directory.
You do need a kernel that supports CIFS. But nearly all builds now do. Note that Pershoot's Kernels require you to download his modules and push the CIFS module (directions on his blog site). Clemsyn packages the modules into the ROM.

Simplest method is using UPnPlay (free) from the market.
It will scan all network shares, PC's or Servers, then allow browsing for files and select your favorite media player to stream the video.
Combine that with Rockplayer, it would be the best method.

streaming nas media

Hey guys i was wondering what is the best app out there that will allow me to stream my movies and tv shows from my nas to my tab while im away from home. I know how to do port forwarding just cant find a app that will stream the media
Plex works really well! It converts on the fly if you have a PC next to your nas. Quality on your LAN is great! Quality on the WAN is so so but it works!
Thanks for the reply i have plex installed but it doesnt work outside of my home network on my tab. It works fine on my phone but not on my tab ( my tab is tethered to my phone to access the internet when im not home)
TVersity allows you to stream outside of your network. Quality is much better than on Orb or some of the others.
what app do you use for tversity i checked the market and nothing came up

I don't use an app. usually. I do it straight from the browser. You can enter an http address and pull up files or a flash file.
Alternatives are Vplayer, the Toshiba Media Player app available on XDA (works the best actually) and um..... one other one I forget. You just install TVersity on your PC and let it scan wherever your media is installed. Whether it be on your puter or an external.
I use J.River Media Center, the app is called "Gizmo" (just search in the market).
I'm able to control all my music in different rooms, workplace etc over the pad. Or stream it to the pad itself.

I use Plex over 3G on my Wi-Fi Tab tethered to my phone. I'm tethering via Wi-Fi, not USB. I have to store the remote IP address for the server Plex is running on in order for the app on the Tab to find it.
yeah i have my remote ip address saved and im teathered via wireless as well and i dont get a connection. My phone has the same remote ip address as well and it connects just fine. Ive also tried connecting to my vpn teathered and that doesnt work either, but my phone can connect without any problems
I have a QNAP 212 NAS and Galaxy Tab 10.1. Tried Tversity/uPnP and the rest but all I got was jerky playback over wifi.
Solution was long winded but now I can stream anything stutter free
1. Map NAS drives to PC (Windows 7 cannot index NAS so use this workaround)
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...to-index/d6a6cb41-1d66-476c-ab1e-70329dd55cc5
2. Install Qloud
3. Stream at 2048mbps
4. Funmouth
thanks for the reply works like a charm
no worries

tools for transfer music and videos

hi,
i want to know how i can transfer music and videos to my TF201?
witch tools i use for that?
thanks for response
a tool needed to transfer stuff to my device was the #1 reason i moved away from iDevices (itune).
for large amount of transfer, you simply connect to your computer thru USB, and use file explorer/manager from your computer to move files.
i use ES File manager (on the tablet) to copy a couple files over WIFI sometimes, slow
I generally use Samba SMB/CIFS or a memory card. USB works great if you have a modern PC but I'm to lazy to get a cable. SSH is also heavily used for my network.

Get isyncer for your device and it will sync your iTunes library.
Anyone know of a good wifi file sharing app to share files between android devices? BT is too slow
Nvidia always!
Windows Media Player
It's odd though.. After ICS I can no longer do a SMB connect to my NAS through either Astro or BS Player. Anyone experienced the same?
Edit: Gah, nevermind When playing around I had entered a wrong password at some time, and gotten myself locked out from my NAS
Use the awesome DropBox... click the referral link in my signature & get DB free & you can put DB on any phone, tablet, computer & instantly transfer files around. I use DB 99% of the time to move songs & vids & photos & wallpapers & notification tones & podcasts & apps to my tablet from my computer.
You can use all above, and tools like Web Remote Desktop, or others see in market), and you have all sync software also, on computer side, through USB and wifi, with samba share. Plenty of possibilities.
"wifi file explorer" works great. When I am too lazy to get the cable, I just use wifi to do the transferring. The only problem is it only transfers one file a time. But you can zip everything into a zip file, upload the zip file, and unzip it all througt wifi file explorer. Very convenient.

it has multi platform apps pc/mac/android/ios
ofcos if u are transferring HD movies usb is definitely the way. this cloud is very good for small file size esp mp3!
cheers!
My go to apps is AirDroid, TeraDesk, DropBox, or Evernote (it all depends on what I'm doing and from where).
Plus I also have LogMeIn pro for emergencies.

Folder and dlna issues

Firstly, the phone is awesome and im loving it.
However, I'm having 2 problems which I'm hoping someone can help with....
1. On the home screen, I have set up a folder with some apps in it. I re arrange the apps but after half a day or so, the apps have moved their position in the folder. Anyone else getting this?
2. In Video Player, I go to 'Nearby Devices' and I can see my DLNA server but when I select it, it says 'Contents Location is not available. Check network status and connected device' . This server works fine with my Transformer Prime and PS3. Any ideas what I need to do to get it working?
