ICS, we just got shafted. - HTC EVO 3D

http://m.androidcentral.com/htc-say...ch-updates-coming-march-adds-more-phones-list
Ice Cream Sandwich updates will be available by the end of March. First up are the HTC Sensation, Sensation 4G and Sensation XE, with the Sensation XL to follow.
In addition, we can confirm Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades will be coming later this year to the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S and HTC Desire HD.
June/July is my bet.

That really sucks.

Well that's the last non-Nexus HTC device I buy. Though I don't feel too bad because I'm not excited for Sense 4.0, I'll be using CM9.

Some people prefer to have a new thread for actual new information. I know I don't have the time or patience to flip through 85 pages of "lol u mad bro?" posts in one single ICS thread just to find an update that is worth reading. If the OP in that thread is constantly updated, then that's an improvement. But when there's new information released, a new thread is justifiable. There isn't one single ROM thread for all of our ROMs, is there? Wouldn't that be kinda annoying?

htc just effed us. of course us Evo3D owners have to wait between april and june for our damn update while they update their 4 sensations. how long has that phone been out to have 4 variations of the exact same phone with minor improvements here and there? at least when apple releases a phone, they wait a year before they release the same phone with minor tweaks to it.

Hahaha its no problem, I set myself up for that one. Glad a few people hit me with it.
But yeah, I do agree, it kinda stinks that we're not in the first wave of ICS updates. I had my fingers crossed that we'd be in the first 3 phones at least. But hey at least we are still going to get it. I'm sure once it drops officially for the other phones, it will only help our own devs out. My big hope is that they release all of the source info as quickly as possible to further help the devs out... I hear HTC isn't very quick with that typically, however.

While I am pretty pissed about this, I guess it could be for the best. Maybe we'll get updated straight to Sense 4.0, and there will be less likelihood for annoying bugs.
It just sucks that the Sensation, an inferior device to ours spec wise, will be getting the update first.
Also, since I don't see much to gain in complaining to HTC about not getting ICS for a while, since it could possibly be a carrier problem on top of that, we should instead bug them for driver source.
Ala my two recent tweets @HTC:
@htc If you aren't going to update most of your devices until later on in the year, might you at least consider releasing driver sources?
and
@htc You have a lot of customers that would be very happy to be able to access those sources, to fix problems we have with ICS AOSP.
Tweet that @HTC and @htcdev and see if we can get any sort of response. Tell them we would love to have these so that we can have working camera on our ICS builds and ports to keep us pleased with them until the date of our upgrades.

Well screw HTC, I left RIM to come to droid cause i was sick of empty promises. I was told when i bought this phone that id have ICS by the end of February. Now they say later this year, thats so vague it could be December and they still have months to announce they're pushing it back further. I will never buy another HTC device. By the time they release ICS, jellybean will be out and ill still be behind. HTC may as well merge with RIM and go out of business together.

I am disappointed as well. I want to know that I have the latest and greatest. BUT I have ICS on my wife's Sensation and its no different than Gingerbread with Sense on my Amaze.
I ditched my POS Galaxy S because Samsung did this exact thing to their "flagship" phone and passed on the SGSII because I expected the same crap
At least they didn't say end of 2011 and push it to Q2 like Samsung did for the SGS. I guess HTC still has time :-|

You ditched your SGS because there was no official ICS for it? SMH bro, that phone has one of the biggest developer base, there are like over 3 good 4.0 ROMs over there now. The only reason I left my SGS was because it didn't have the AWS bands
Okay Its going to be the first quarter of the year not December! Second I still think if they are testing it now we could see a release in Feb at the most March. However, The sensation has a lot of Sense 3.6 roms with ICS. I tired porting one but I failed at it. Maybe we shouldn't wait until OTA and just figure out a way to port one of those roms.

I heard the HTC ICS update will still be with Sense and will pretty much look the same. The Amaze has buttons so there won't be the newer Honeycomb/ICS soft buttons on the bottom. I'm using ICS on my Moto Xoom and the swipe to dismiss notification window and swipe to dismiss task switcher are nice, but otherwise ICS is not much different on the surface.
Soooo what is the big ICS feature members of this forum are wanting for the Amaze? I'm not understanding the disappointment. Please help me out.

This is YOUR thread specifically for NEW Evo LTE Owners or Members that Came From Another Device or Operating System to the Evo LTE...
I know quite a few members/friends that have migrated back to this Forum and figured a thread to "introduce" or "re-introduce" former Samsung, LG, Sony, Motorola, ore even iOS users back to the HTC way of life... Especially since compared to other UI's, operating systems or even the OG Evo Sense version is alot different and sometimes hard to adapt to.
Reserved...
I was an OG Evo owner, but have owned the Epic 4G Touch for the last 6 months...
So... being a new Evo 4G LTE owner, I have a couple questions...
1. I don't wanna root and start using ROMs just yet, so is there a way to disable the stupid tone while turning UP or DOWN the volume with the rocker?
2. Is there a way to disable Sense and use the default ICS launcher?
Not to be that guy but aren't we all new Evo LTE owners? Did you mean to say new to the Evo line?

The forums are FULL of threads for "Non-noobs"... This one is for noobs that have come to Android or existing Android users who previously owned another brand Android device that may not be familiar with HTC devices or HTC Sense...

If you wanted pure Google you would have wanted the GNex. You can download apex or nova launchers and they are like using the default ics launcher...
Sent from my LTEvo
HTC removed the default launcher starting with the second froyo update to the og evo, they never explained why but honestly when you have teams working to make a whole new experience for android and people are just switching back to stock it does tend to screw with the people who spent hundreds of hours pouring over code and trying to design something that can stand out in an oversaturated market, and it shows that they atleast try to listen to their customers, sense is pretty scaled back and streamlined compared to the older bloated mess that just added on top of what was there to try and keep up with and anticipate customer demand

Apple may be better at rolling out new os but I have very little experience with them. I can only go by what I hear. That being said I still won't be buying any apple products. Between my evo 3d, toshiba thrive, desktop pc and my chromebook i'm very happy. I can do so many things apple users only dream about. With Apple your forced to wait to get something till they decide you can have it. I like flashing roms and the custom things we can do. I would like to see google make a standard dock for all the different device makers to put into there devices.

Update on Jellybean

Looked at the Sprint Community Forums and there was this user (crfinaz1) that went to a Sprint tech store in Arizona and met and HTC rep. According to the rep, it was supposed to be released on the 27th, but HTC sis not like the mods to the new UI in Sense. The OTA was sent to some random users but it was quickly pulled off because of the mods that HTC didn't like. According to this user, the update is coming out this Sunday, (12/2/12).
I an highly doubtful that this will happen on Sunday, but we all have our fingers crossed for this update to come out. And I think its pretty hilarious that we might get the update before the AT&T One X does . Justifies that Sprint is great at updating if we get the update on the second (first one for the GS3).

If I was to flash the new JB rom, would I be unable to use cm10 afterwards? Would I need to wait for HTC to release their source 90 days after?

Pretty much this. I had been thinking about going with a pure Jelly Bean ROM, but figured I'd patiently wait for Sprint/HTC to release it. How long do you think it'll take to root it when it gets released? LOL
Already using JB, Ran away from Sense to (what I really hated before) CM to fix multitasking, and now cannot bring myself back to Sense. But CM10 lacking proper camera drivers, and has a bit more weirdness. Not for everyone, that's for sure.

Kind of same here. It's the "multitasking" that's killing my urge to stay on Sense. But as an interface, I like Sense more than CM10. So yea, at least I have an option to run Sense, unlike with Nexus.

Have you tried the multitasking fix? It makes things a lot better. Not perfect, but a hell of a lot better.

Exactly how I feel I just love the little features of sense 4 to much to lose it.
I had the nexus s 4g before this and always ended up trying to duplicate the sense widgets and ui smoothness and always ended up with an itch that aosp just couldn't scratch.

Jewel getting 4.2.2 Sense 5 per Twitter

Saw this on Twitter and figured I'd share. Most of you know Football is almost always accurate so this gives me hope I'm hopping on the One next month and giving my Evo away so just sharing this for kicks.

They're doing everything they possibly can to keep step with Samsung so I can see it happening.. HTC is in full on desperation mode and I like the results of it so far

Of course i hope they do but naturally with htc i have my doubts
If this happens I will be very happy with the support this device has received over the last year.

Good news for sure.... Correct about football though... Almost always is key word in statement... He typically nails software related items so I'd trust this.... He was off on the One hardware as he stated no new Qualcomm snapdragon chips in development by HTC a short while ago... Somewhat easy to be fooled on that front less u have the device in hand though....
I'm more interested in timing of OTA than anything else regarding this new development....

I would like too see a OTA timing as well. Football is very good person and usually gets his hands on everything before anyone else can. Sure do miss him. He did a very good job posting the leaked firmwares . wish he could post the official current firmware right now with signed exe
Good news. I would think the ONE would get updated to 4.2.2 before Jewel. Regardless, HTC really needs to get their hands dirty this year for sure.
via eVo.
Pretty sure we're getting after the one does.

Sense 5 doesnt come with 4.2.2, its 4.1....but im sure this is talking about a future update rather than the first version of Sense 5, although I cant see HTC keeping Sense 5 but updating the android version, Im sure they would throw out something like Sense 5.1 or something with it
I'm running viper 3.1.4 and have used CM10.1 version 4.2.2 and i think viper hands down is better, unless I'm missing something here, i think the evo is still at its peak running the right rom and kernels.. And I've looked at the new changes to sense 5...Don't like tiles.

The first version of an official OTA that has sense 5 for this phone will deff include 4.2.2 at least... Will come after the One gets theirs but fact is its coming regardless...
