[Q] I just spent hrs searching "Nook Reader on rooted Nook - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet
A year I put cm7 on my NC, I really use it. I have spreadsheets on it for everything, including “what’s in my freezer”. The one ONLY thing that I have missed is the B&N Reader. I have all the other reader apps and none of them compare to the original. Loaded B&N app--can't get it to work on cm7.
Now I have my NT in a awkward stage. I have not been able to get the drivers changed so I can root it. (I have had a lot of help from this forum; and am ready to try 2 more methods that look hopeful) BUT, I have sideloaded all the apps that I use in my NC, can get around the home button nicely with ADB and with AppSwipe (terrible name for my favorite app!) I have the ability to pop back and forth from Dropbox to pick out a book choose reader (B&N). I haven’t touched the home button in a week since I loaded AppSwipe.
Finally, here’s the question: If I get the drivers changed, which I have a burning desire to do; will I lose the reader?
If you are just planning to root, then no, you'll still have the original reader there as well.
If you plan on using CM7 (when it's completed) then the reader will be gone.
If I recall correctly, after I rooted (indirect's method), I still had access to the entire B&N launcher and apps, including the stock reader. Homecatcher asks which launcher you want to launch, and if you choose the stock launcher, it works very much like out-of-the-box.
Unfortunately, I was reading a thread last night, indicating that the reader was not being restored from backup properly on the CM7 release.

Nook app on Market
I've been on the CM7 alpha now for the past week with good success. I just went out to the Android Market and downloaded the Nook application. It is working fine for me. I've been reading on it all week.
It is good to know that the B&N reader works in CM7 on the Nook Tablet. I was wondering that myself. I knew from experience that the B&N reader from the market doesn't work on 1.4.0 rooted.
I can echo that rooting the Nook itself will not remove the reader (as long as you don't choose to "de-bloat"). Note, there are SD methods for rooting so you may not need to resolve your driver issue. So, regardless of your route (root, CM7) sounds like you are golden for reading your Nook books.
My thoughts are around an issue that is a bit more subtle: At the moment, I'm considering running CM7 on SD for a multi-boot experience. If I want a full tablet, I would boot to CM7 on SD. If I want a stock (or meta-stock) experience I would boot to the internal firmware whether it be root or stock. My reason for this? Whenever I try reading ebooks from the library (specifically ePub) and try to view them using the B&N reader on my phone, it won't work - I can't seem to read licensed content that I borrow from the library because I can't seem to sideload it: Adobe's tool (and others that I've tried) don't recognize my phone as a Nook.
Now, my need for a multi-boot would evaporate if someone tells me that Adobe's tool (and others) recognize a Nook Tablet running CM7 as a proper Nook - my problems would all go away and I would happily run CM7 internally and avoid multi-boot altogether. Anyone with input on this?
Thats exciting. Tell me, are you reading a book that you bought from B&N?
I have been cutting up (gasp) my favorite books and scanning them into epub, I can't get B&N to read them on my cm7 NC?

For library books, I use Overdrive Console app. It downloads into the Nook. It's great but they had no pg numbers. I ask why & they updated it but the pg numbers are only by the pgs in the chapter.

The Nook app installs for me but I can't synchronize my account or make the 'shopping' or 'search' buttons work. However, I can read all of my .epub books on the sd card so I'm good.
The nook app from the Android store works. The reader app on the origjnal 1.4.0 nook firmware does not work.
Ok, I stand corrected. I uninstalled the previously Market version of the Nook app and reinstalled it and things work better now. The 'synchronize' and the 'shopping' buttons work now.
I was also successful in connecting to B&N severs, while downloading from Market and using B&N Nook app on the NT with CM7. The reader worked on stock with root but access to B&N account/server was wiped out for me. I tried some methods found on this forum but they didn't seem to work for me. I have heard that others have successfully succeeded in the attempt of connecting to the B&N severs on Stock while rooted. @Claudiaa you could try the root method and try different approaches to getting the B&N severs to recognized a rooted Tab, then you could use the un-rooter if unsuccessful. You could always start back at Stock software, I'm not sure if that is the case if you decide to go with ClockworkMod Recovery(void warranty, proof). If you do decide to use CWM Recovery their is Stock ROMs out there, that have root, certain hacks and apps preloaded. Info is always helpful, good luck on your decision.

[Q] Synchronizing data about specific apps between two Android devices
So, I've just gotten a Nook Colour, with CyanogenMod7. I've also got a Mytouch 4G Slide. I use Moon+ Reader on my phone, and would like to set things up so that I can use the same program on my Nook. However, I'd also like to set things up so that when I finish reading on my Nook and go out with my phone, I don't have to find my place in the book again. So basically I'm looking to synchronize data specific to particular apps between my Nook and my phone. Anyone have any suggestions?
Ereading after Snowball mod...
For any one who has had difficulty using the NT for ebooks after applying the Snowball mod (and greatly expanding it's usefulness; hat tip:cfoesch)... While I couldn't get the Nook app from the market to launch, I was able the pull the Library.apk and Reader.apk for the StockRestore from AdamOutler (again, hat tip), and install those. The upshot is that Calibre recognizes it as a NT, and places files appropriately. Mods: noob, here. Place where you see fit. T
Could you try with any other app instead of calibre to see if it works too, like the main nook app and report back. Would be nice if this gets solved using the nook app with snawball method
Tried it with the Nook for PC app, and it will allow you to connect and transfer BN content to the NT (allowing that you sign up for the required Adobe account :\ ). I do still wish that I could use the Nook app from the market rather that the poached apk's from the stock rom. Not sure what else to test/try... Hope that helps. T
[Q] Best method to run custom ROMs and keep access to B&N Nook specific content?
So I've had my NT (16GB) since Christmas and have been rooted and OTA blocked since the beginning. Now that CM7 is available and relatively stable, CM9 is getting there I am soliciting some advice on how best to proceed. I have purchased several Children's Books from B&N and have, much to my chagrin, noticed that they are only viewable on the NT (probably NC too but I don't have one of those). I got the NT because I wanted a cheap good tablet, I also want to support B&N through purchases from them for content as much as possible, but let's face it I'm not buying the same apps multiple times. So what to do..... Option 1. (Currently Evaluating) - I purchased a class 10 32gb SD card and put an ROM on there (CM7). I just completed this step last night and I am still playing about. There seems to be noticeable lag though in starting apps and browsing/playing around in general. This could be a early symptom of things just needing to settle out though as I haven't spent a whole lot of time on it yet. This would allow me to pop the SD card and boot stock when the kids want to view the books. A hassle but possible good alternative. Option 2. Find some way to get the stock B&N reader programs on the custom ROM. I have no idea where to start with that and the brief searches that I've tried has suggested it isn't possible. Option 3. Just live with Rooted Stock and the side loaded apps that I have now. This isn't as much fun, but does make for a fairly usable tablet with the full Nook capabilities. Just a few nits but none that are completely onerous. However no ICS and that might be a problem with apps in the near future. Option 4. Bootable SD of a stock image. This would allow me to completely change the internal storage and have a separate bootable card for the stock needs. I haven't seen any of these offered in the Dev section yet but I'm willing to try to make one myself with a little more research. A couple of questions here though would be how/or if I can access the SD card from internal storage boot and share media on the card (movies, music, etc)? Can you default the boot internal with a special key press to boot from SD card? Ideas. Option 5. Can you run a VM of the stock image from a normal boot? This one is way out there as I haven't seen VM options for Android yet. So that's about all I can think of. Interested in hearing your thoughts and ideas. Thanks.
Your option 1 with CM 7 should allow you to load Google Play, which will allow you to download the Nook Reader app from there. It will allow you to read your books, and some other content as well, but not Nook apps. (You can't read some magazines except with native Nook, and although the apps you've gotten from B&N don't function here, you can download from Google Play most anything you want. Also, you can always boot back to stock Nook Tablet and do that. I flip back and forth between CM7 and native stock Nook Tablet all the time.)
I also boot back and forth between stock and CM7. I use both Nook & Kindle apps on CM7. I really only boot into stock when I'm in the Barnes & Noble store.

Alright, I'm new to this forum, so I hope I'm not violating any rules, and if this is the wrong place to post this, I apologize. Anyways, I've been trying to root my Nook Tablet with an SD card. I have been using WinImager to do this. I select the image to burn to the card, and then tell it to do it, but then it says something to the effect of "Are you sure you want to write to a phsycial device? This may corrupt the card." I hit "OK", and then it comes up with "Error 5: Access is Denied." It is a SanDisk 8GB microSd card, and I am using the stock adapter that came with it. I put it in the SD card reader in my laptop, and I have made sure that the lock switch on the side is set to UNLOCK. The card was also ran through the clothes washer, but it still works fine in my NT. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Is there a way to fix it? Also, do roots allow you to access content previously purchased from the B&N store? TIA

Onto your rooting question: It will not affect content purchased through the B&N Store. Should you decide to install a ROM rather than the stock interface, any purchased media (books, magazines, etc) can also be accessed through the Nook app in the Play store. Apps, however, cannot.

What do you mean by installing a ROM instead of a stock interface?

I heard you could install the amazon app store on the side with that OS.
If you want to keep the B&N interface, sure. If you don't care about that, you can always try out one of the ROMs in the dev section. Just make sure you read up on the installation instructions before you do. Either way, there are also instructions on reverting back to 1.4.0 (even a rooted 1.4.0) in the dev section.

I have attached a screenshot of the live koi fish wallpaper which has the Amazon and Playstore. If you like the wallpaper you can look in the general section. The Playstore says it is not compatible with Nook.
Can I still do that with 1.4.3? If so, how?

[Q] SD Boot Without Altering Internal ROM
I have successfully used CM on my Nook Color and was going through the "Triple Thread" thread believing that this was the same sort of thing as that, but for the Nook Tablet. Right when I was about to get to the very end, I realized that this was a method of ROOTING and FLASHING the ROM on the Nook Tablet from the SD Card - NOT booting into CM from it. I like the ability to pop the SD card out and reboot the "real" Nook whenever I want to (some apps like magazines only work in the native form, not in the Nook app for Android). I have searched, but the solution eludes me. Note: Just out of curiosity and wishful thinking, I popped my Nook Color SD card into the Nook Tablet - hoping... But alas, to no avail. It just booted like it always does. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
