Anyone know if there is external DVD drives compatible with the dock?

For what fun could be had in a terminal, maybe but I am doubtful about the stock kernel at least.
Also ofc, no Android apps are expecting it.

It's linux. If you manage to mount it, it behaves like normal folder (for example the one for microSD card or pendrives in Removable folder).
Yes but optical disks are used for more than just reading data disks.
I have an external cd rom and an atp, but don't know if it will work with my docks lone portand nothing if need to test with.

Have an LG GP10 portable sitting next to me, so I plugged it in. All the lights come on as you would expect, but then goes black.....No indication on the TF101 to say it has recognized it
There was a thread on Reddit about this last week...it doesn't work.
You think the kernel could be modified to accept a dvd drive

I need to get an external hard drive for my Transformer, and I wanted to know if anybody had any good suggestions as to which I should get?
Also, what format does the drive need to be formatted in?
Thanks.

I'm using a 1TB WD My Passport USB 3.0 drive formatted in NTFS. The TF recognized it and accepts it just fine.
yep ... im using a WD too ... but mines only the 500gb USB 2.0 one ... but it was VERY cheap at PC World
Does it need to be usb 3.0 for power? I know the power cord for the Transformer has to be.

are you guys powering the hard-drive from the transformer or do the drives have their own external power supply?
Mine powers just fine from the Transformer.

I have three Toshiba 1TB (NTFS) USB drives that work/browse beautifully. (Two at a time, of course!)

mine is simply a USB connection to the transformer. The 500gb model was about £30 from PC World
Just buy a 250GB Toshiba 1.8" HDD.
It very small and enough space to storage.

I'm a bit confused - are you using the Asus Transformer's keyboard dock's USB port? The TF doesn't come with a USB port onboard right? Unless you have some kind of USB dongle that plugs into the proprietary port?

Yea sorry I ment from the doc.
Thanks all, haven't had the time to research the options yet, but I wanted to know, does anybody know of a fast and easy way to transfer movies to/from the external hard drive?

READ/Write ntfs
I know the trp can read ntfs but can it write?
thx
Using a seagate expansion 500gb
My Toshiba 1TB works perfectly out of the box with this tablet. Strongly recommended.

works great with the dock
I use a 500gb mypassport.
It is powered over USB. It works great when plugged into the dock.
I also have an AC powered WD 1tB hdd that works fine too.
Both are NTFS.
Isn't it awesome to be able to play movie content from your NTFS, USB powered drive on your TF? I love laughing at my wife using her iPad.
Any external hard drive basically works...
I use a Seagate 500gb in one of those external cases from DX and it works perfectly well.
I tried searching the forums for an answer, but haven't been able to locate one. If someone knows of another thread, could you link it please?
My question is, is there a size limit to a USB drive that the Prime dock will recognize? I have a Scandisk 16Gb drive. When I put it in the USB port the Prime flashes "Preparing external storage", but that message disappears, leaving me no access to the drive. Smaller capacity USB drives work fine, albeit from different manufacturers.
Is this a capacity issue, or something else?
I think it is something else. I plugged in a 500gb hard drive via usb and it seemed to work fine.
The USB drive that I have that didn't work was a Chromium image which I'm guessing just can't be read by the Android OS.
My 2 tb external works fine.

I think the question is how is the drive formatted. Not every format is supported. I know that NTFS (windows default for large drives) is hit or miss.

Anyone know of a SD card reader for the transformer prime? I found one on Amazon but it was for tf101. Will this work or can anyone point me to one. Thanks

He's referring to the keyboard dock, it has an SD card slot built into it.

The SD card reader for the TF101 works great on the Prime.
Yeap the Asus dock is a wonderful card reader, also did you know that the Prime has a built in slot for a micro SD card already? I'm not sure what they're trying to do, but if a micro would work it will be an easy solution.
The transformer prime dock would be a rather big present for someone else, but if it's that kind of someone else, it will change their life. It's a full keyboard with a touchpad mouse, has full size SD card slot and USB slot which allows you to use external drives. It doubles as a case also kind of, it makes the prime fold up like a netbook.
I shoot a Canon DSLR camera that uses an SD card. While I'm out shooting I can take the card out of the camera and view the pics fullsize on the screen and also copy the files from the SD card to my external hard drive which is connected via USB.

is there a external dvd player disc drive for androids?
Not that i have seen, the biggest issue would be to get enough power to it.
If it was a drive that also plugged into a wall socket i guess it could work but a app would need to be written to play the dvd.
And as it would not get enough power just from the devices usb it wouldnt be very portable and so quite pointless

Android doesn't recognize CD or DVD drives. I have a USB to SATA/IDE converter that is externally powered. On CM9 on my Touchpad I can hook it up via OTG and computer HDDs will work just fine both in SATA and IDE. But CD and DVD drives don't show up at all in Android.
but would it be possible to create a app and driver for android? i have heard of some tablets aparently having cd drives dont no how true it is.

It depends what the external sd is and how big it is in memory size, some work and some don't.
I have a 1 tb external and it doesn't register on my phone not even if I repartition it.

sh^t im planning on getting a 1TB external HD this one in fact
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Sli...UTF8&colid=12HPR9PFUES4B&coliid=IYZBBEJ1LZLS4
i suppose i could go through the process of using OTG Cable with my Nexus 7 and then onto my phone but it's too much hard work to be honest, all i wanna do is to get music onto my phone from the external HD, this isn't good, ill have to reconsider my options unless anyone knows a better way?

Ah figured out how to use my hdd by installing an app called paragon ntfs then plugging my wired hub into my otg cable then plugging my wired extended hdd into that.
It's a very annoying process just to plug a hard drive in but it worked

Okay what I did was have my hub connected to the mains which is also connected to my otg cable of my note 10.1
Installed the paragon app that reads ntfc data on a hard drive (some are fat32 so don't need this app)
Then connected my external 1tb hard drive which is connected to the mains to the hub and all my files showed up on my note 10.1
Hope that's easier to understand
Oops sorry exactly the same process with a galaxy s3, get confused between forums
