Can anyone confirm whether or not the U.S. version of the Note will have Gorilla Glass? Looking at the specs on Samsung's site for both models shows it only on Euro version. http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxynote/note/spec.html?type=find
U.S. site http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I717ZBAATT
No mention of it anywhere.
Samsung and Gorilla Glass have a joint venture with each other.
Even IF it didn't have official gorilla glass, it will still have reinforced scratch resistant glass made with the same process / materials / technology.
I assume it will have gorilla glass. The only high end Samsung phone to not have it in recent times that I know of is the galaxy nexus and the nexus s before that, and that is because of the curved display. If it doesn't, I guess ill have to go back to screen protectors, but its not going to stop me from getting this beast.

Yes but we're talking about the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note, That's the International Samsung Galaxy Note, It's a different phone.

It doesn't say International. It just says Galaxy Note. I think they would specify if it was different. I'm sure at the time that was the only picture they had.

No its not.

Whatever it is, it's pretty tough. I ran the tip of a knife on it, and there are no visible marks. You won't need one of those screen guards on this.

No, it may be scratch resistant, but its definitely not tough. There are plenty of report of the glass shattering when its slipped off someones lap when they are sitting.
The 7" tab has gorilla glass. The 10.1 tab does not.

I asked Samsung awhile back and was told the 10.1 is GG.
seems very hard to me. Whether it is gg or not the larger the surface the more fragile it becomes, unless you make it a lot thicker.

They told me the same thing when I contacted their customer support. I'm going to take their word over others that are saying it's not.

It very definitely might be.
Yeah, its hard to say for sure... I'm leaning towards a similar compound to GG, but in a thinner, more brittle application so as to preserve thinness. Its like the iPhone, the screen isn't "Gorilla Glass" but its made in the same factory

I can't get the links to open. Yes, I'm sure. I asked them 2 separate times, and both times their response was yes.
I've seen a few videos on the web of people doing the scratch test on the 10.1v. It passed.
I can only assume they kept the same glass for the 10.1, but made other modifications.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
There are videos on YouTube showing keys not scratching the GT10.1... If it's not Gorilla Glass it seems to be just as strong.
From Corning's website:
Samsung: Behold II, Captivate, Continuum, Corby S3650, Corby W900, Epic 4G, Fascinate, Flight II, Focus, Galaxy A, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy S, GALAXY S II, Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy Tab, Lindy, Mesmerize, Monte, Monte Preston, Omnia HD, S8500 WAVE, Showcase, Trance, Transform, Ultra TOUCH S8300, Vibrant, Wave II
it's pretty frustrating when the product manufacturer says one thing
and a component vendor states the opposite ....

I agree. There are tons of "gorilla glass test" videos on Youtube. Whatever it is, it's very strong. I wouldn't worry too much. I'd still recommend getting a screen protector though. Easier to clean fingerprints.

You could always just buy an official SAMSUNG folio case and cut off the leather flap. The replacement backs that come on these are thicker and stronger anyways.... Just a thought.

There are a few problems with that.
1) international note tabs are larger and therefore will require modification to work
2) no NFC. Sure, it's disabled now, but soon it will be available for use.
3) Does not look the same. It says Samsung, not Galaxy Note. That's more personal preference.
Ok after receiving my a new White SGH-I717, I started to notice differences right away, albeit subtle ones.
My Original, Made in Korea (MIK) had a brighter / shinier chrome accent, on screen display of blacks are darker.
Noticed the Made In China (MIC) the bezel between the chrome to glass/screen is slightly taller. The screen is brighter, blacks are less dark.
What else has anyone else noticed?

This is an interesting topic. I didn't realize the Note was manufactured in China and Korea. Interestingly enough, I recently exchanged my Note for a replacement, and so far, the only differences I can see is the s-pen fits more snuggly. I haven't noticed any other differences yet.

This is true for my MIC Note, the pen fit snug(ger) to the point it seems to get snagged on the crease depending on how it's pulled out.
Do you have your previous one to compare side by side? Were they both "made in" the same place?

I am guessing they have better manufacturing facilities and better access to the materials, since they have a longer history of being mass producers.
What is everyone's revision number? (assuming that's what rev stands for)
Mine is Korea and rev.3
I'm wondering if there's anything we can figure out or if they're simply being produced simultaneously in both factories.

This really has no significance. In many products, Korean made are far above Chinese made. It all comes down to what we're talking about and the factory.
Though, if MIC Samsung phones are known for being better than MIK Samsung phones... I would imagine the quality control would stay the same throughout the whole lineup and things would follow this pattern for the note.
I think you might be on to something...
My original black note was MIK Rev3. Lots of issues!
But my new white note is MIC Rev3. It has no lag, excellent battery do far, and no signs of black pixelation. And the chrome is brighter to me than my previous note.

What about screen protectors? The ones I got don't really stick around the edges because it kind of curves.

Dry/static cling protectors don't work on the curve, only wet application protectors can follow the curve, and therefore cover the whole screen.

Well, I am not that ignorant that I wouldn't search for it. I read pretty much every review and this one is the only one dating it's Gorilla Glass. Not sure where the author would take that info from.
This is the only phone where there Samsung site doesn't specify the type of glass used. GSMArena also mentioned specifically in their review that they don't know which glass it is.
Have contacted Samsung numerous times already but they haven't replied yet either.

Which is weird. The Alpha is marketed as a phone particularly for the high end materials rather than the internal specs. I would have thought that the quality of the screen material used is significant to mention. Since its not it's rather doubtful that it's GG3.
