All sprint CDMA Evo 3ds have two 5MP cameras however the 3D pics are of 2MP.
Some GSM Evo 3Ds (launched in Asia) have the upper 5MP and the lower 2MP camera.
No 3MP on Evo 3d , its on LG Optimus 3D.

ok, thank you.
@ALL, any way to find it out?

See my post in the EVO GSM forum. Install Elixir2 and pull the info from there. Take the resolution for each camera and multiply them:
Camera - 2560x1920 = 4.9MP
Camera - 3840x1080 = 4.1MP
Front Camera - 1280x1024 = 1.3MP

ok, its same to you.
but why its 5 and 4? i thought its 5 and 5 or 5 and 2?

Htc evo 3d gsm 5mp +5mp or 5mp +3mp or myth
Hi ,I read about some of the theories..that people stated...
so the cdma have 5mp +5mp ?
Asia version have 5mp +3mp
what about europe? 5mp +5mp ? or 5mp+3mp or all this is just bull****
my htc evo 3d gsm(bought in sweden, europe) states by the program elixir 2 the following:
camera 1: 2560x1920 (focus length 3,49mm) and zoom: 2
camera 2: 3840x1080 (focus length 3,49mm) and zoom: 1,74
------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE LG OPTIMUS 3D gsm (bought in sweden, europe) states by the program elixir 2 the following:
camera1: 2592x1944 (focus length 4,6mm) and zoom: 8)
camera2: 4096x1536 (focus length 4,67mm) and zoom: 8)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
well some say you multiply the resolution and you get the megapixel lets see:
htc evo 3d gsm : 2650x1920=5'088'000 ---->about 5mp
3840x1080=4'147'200---->about 4,1mp still not 3mp !!!!
lg optimus 3d gsm:2592x1944=5'038'848--->about 5mp
4096x1536=6'291'456--->about 6mp omg all the sudden its 6,29mp?? nah cant be true they are identical
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HERE IS A FUNNY THING, I CAN TAKE 3D PICTURES WITH THE HTC EVO 3D USING THE AMAZE CAMERA APK AT A RESOLUTION OF 4096x1152 JPS pictures
and 3d pictures mpo at 2048x1152
this is because jps are side to side picures(double the width 4096)
mpo are 1 picture mixed (the width is 2048
which is half of what the jps picture size IN WIDTH ONLY)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONCLUSION: I ALL THIS WITH THE 5MP +5mp and 5mp+3mp is bull**** ,its something with the drivers of the cameras or zoom not megapixel
CAN ANYONE WRITE DOWN THE DATA YOU HAVE FROM ELIXIR 2 A CDMA USER PLEASE AND IF POSSIBLE ONE WITH THE ASIA VERSION
---------- Post added at 11:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 PM ----------
Ok so the lg optimus 3d takes 2d pictures 5mp at resolution 2592x1944
takes 3d pictures 3mp at resolution 2048x1536 -->JPS
WEIRD....HTC EVO 3D TAKES 4096x 1152 jps and mpo 2048x1152
lg optimus 3d you cant take mpo pictures its seems only jps
well this fu.. up stuff more, the elixir 2 gave a report of the lg optimus 3d that the camera 2:4096x1536 which seems you CANT even use that resolution in both 2d and 3d
and the htc evo 3d showed a report of camera2:3840x1080 and i was able to take jps pictures at resoultuion of 4096x1152 and mpo pictures at 2048x1152
ANYONE WHO HAVE HTC EVO 3D CDMA PLEASE SHOW US YOU REPORT FROM ELIXIR 2 AND IF POSSIBLE ANYONE WHO GOT THE ASIA VERSION

I got the same like this. I never really realised that we can record 720P with our front camera.
That is amazing. The HTC Sensation only got an VGA front camera. I believe that mine notebook probably also just an VGA webcam got.

I would agree that the settings seem rather odd for the camera's, and am more inclined to believe it's a driver level thing than hardware.
Mine are:
Camera - 2560x1920 = 4.9MP
Camera - 3840x1080 = 4.1MP
I think Elixer 2 is just reading what's available from the driver. Darn I wish they HTC would release there driver code.
5MP 3D would actually be something pretty darn good.

Yes its reading from driver according to me too...............any 5MP camera can be designed to work less than that..

Well, i ran the app and the Camcorder says 720*480(that is not HD recording)??

[Q] 3D Picture Resolution Improvement?

is there anyway to make it so that it stitches two 5mp pictures instead of two 2 megapixel pictures?
maybe in a rom?
just so that we can take 3d photos, but also have the 2d form where its actually nice to look at instead of a 2mp 2d picture.
just a thought.
Its two five mp cameras, not two 2 mps. Just checked it out in engadget and wirefly

yes i know, but when you take 3d pictures, its two 2mp pictures that are stitched together. you can notice it when you view a 3d picture in 2d.
Yeah
It really should be an option

yes, there might be a way. assuming this is a software limitation and not a hardware limitation.
to determine if its possible in the software, have to decompile and sort thru the closed source htc camera apk file. that is probably the only/best way to figure out the logic and coding htc uses.
is it possible? wouldn't know until we see the code.
see to be quite a few requests surrounding the camera on this device. perhaps it would be worth tweeting or mentioning on htc's facebook page as these types of requests seem popular. maybe they could release these added options in an OTA. would be even better if they just release the source code and we could compile/modify ourselves. in the mean time, next best option, decompile/modify the existing htc camera .apk!
hope that helps!
i am really interested in this too, could any of you smart people try to decompile ? i would done it myself if i only known anything about android but i don't.
so i hope someone could look into it !

I've been looking into the camera in the past few days. Take a look at my camera compression thread. I have a hypothesis as to why the resolution in 1920x1080 for each of the two images in 3D mode. Follow me here. In 2D mode @5MP (widescreen) the resolution is 2560 x 1440. This means that the 3D pictures are reduced by exactly 25% in each dimension. My hypothesis is that they use this extra 25% to post process (focus) the 3D image. If you think about it, the further away the focal point, the more the two images overlap. Likewise, the closer the focal point, the less the images overlap. They need to reserve this 25% in all cases because of the auto focus. It's kind of like how you go cross-eyed when focusing on something right in front of your nose.
EDIT: See my attachment for a visual representation of the wasted area
EDIT: Also see my chopped pictures. I took two pictures. The first in 2D and the second in 3D (converted back to 2D). I had the camera in the exact same spot for both pictures. You can see that the left part of the picture is chopped off in the 3Dto2D picture, but the detail is the same. It's like the image is just cropped.

How do you set metering modes on the camera?

How do you set metering modes on the camera? Modes like
Spot
Evaluative
Center Weighted Average
I remember that this was possible on the Evo, but I can't find a way to change these settings anywhere on the Evo 3D?
Can someone please confirm that these settings no longer exist or am I going crazy?

I don't see these modes on my Sprint Android 2.3.4 EVO 3D .. seems when HTC added the 3D support to their Camera application, they left out/removed some previous functionality they used to support. I haven't seen any official reason why our camera doesn't seem to have as many features other than 3D.
Sorry that isn't the best news, I don't have the metering modes feature either but you're not going crazy!

1080 8mp and 2mp front camera mod

where can i find the mod for 2mp front camera and the 8mp 1080 back camera
?
A lot of the roms have this mod already. Check em out. And pick which one you like. Unless you just want the mod it shld be in the themes section.
Those don't do anything. I still don't get why people think they can turn a 5mp sensor into an 8, or turn a 1.3 into a 2, it's just silly, i mean for real. Now, hacking 1080, that could work.

Apparently it does work. The 1080p anyways. According to many while in 3D mode. In 2D it doesn't.
But yeah. 8mp back, 2mp front, hdr don't work.
I also thought those mods were proven useless last I read, maybe they've come along more since...

Hello.
Why my camera is 5mp + 2mp not 5 * 2. Why HTC changed cameras to 5 + 2?
I didn't know that but then I made 3D gif in 3D porch and I realised that picture 2 have awful quality. Just like with front camera.
So red is 5 * 2 but gold is 5 + 2? Or i'm wrong?

The colour of the outside means nothing. It doesn't even matter if it's 5+2 or 5*2, because the processor is only capable of 2mp 3D pictures. So having 5*2 is just a waste.

can you post a screenshot of hardware info of your EVO 3D located in settings > about phone....
You can take screenshot by pressing power and touching home button simultaneously...
that screenshot of ABOUT PHONE will always show 5*2
and that value if taken from ELIXIR 2, can be vague and wrong because elixir pulls information that its told, and the system tells it that
even hboot differences, date of fastboot and all that cant confirm whether its
5*2
or
5+2
only way probably is to flash a ROM like AOSP, and see if your camera works
you will know for sure

Evo 3D with Twin 5 megapixel cameras?

Hi,
I heard that to save costs in later runs of the 3D EVO, HTC dished out just a single 5 megapixel rear facing camera for the main sensor that's used for 2D photos, and substituted the second rear facing camera for a 2 megapixel sensor. Rational is that they limit you to taking 2 megapixel resolution 3D photos.
Early runs had TWO 5 megapixel rear facing cameras...
Anyone know how I can find out if my own EVO3D has 1 or 2 of the 5 megapixel cameras and what hack I need to take twin full 5 megapixel resolution 3D photos if I have the later.
I already tried Google searching but nothing turned up.
Thanks in advance!
Try this camera app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302943
Some EVO 3D has smaller second camera sensor! Try 2048x1152 version first and if it crashes in 3D mode, use 1920x1080 version

if the 2048x1152 version works then you have 5+5. if it doesnt and the 1920x1080 works then its 5+2

Hi EM|NEM, I am revisiting this after recently unlocking and rooting my x515m and gaining renewed interest... even if I roll back to gingerbread and can run that Camera App , it looks limited to 2048x1152 which is 3MP for 3D (but still better than the stock 1920x1080) but not much desired full-on 5MP for 3D ie 2560x1440.
I am investigating how to do the "dmesg | grep sp3d" you quoted.
You mentioned the cm9 builds only had working camera on 5+5. Just want to ask if that means the camera "working" as in... exceptionally it can take full-on 2x5MP 3D photo capture even better than the above camera app?
If yes I will go on to investigate getting hold of these old cm9 ROMs
