Hi!
Any way of having my Galaxy Nexus automatically start downloading my favorite apps from Market when I format my phone.
I have millions of apps and it takes always so much time to download them again. For example If I change rom its annoying to start installing all the needed apps when I t could easily just load the basic software automatically.
Somehow last time my phone did download BeautifulWidgets without my "permission" from the market and installed it.
So any possibilities to make this happen?

That is google backup feature. It will download all your preveously purchased app only.
I would rather suggest to buy Titanium Backup Pro. Damn good for app backup and restore in batch mode. Good filtering . You can even set the location of your app .
You need root permission to run it. But trust me it will be worth purchase...
You can always use MyBackup Root...is free is efficient and can also backup sms mms system settings etc

Seconded, I am a frequent flasher running a nightly ROM, so I live by Titanium Backup. The paid version allows for an express, confirmation free batch restore. Just set it, leave it, then once it's finished, reboot it.

I agree, Titanium Backup is the finest of its league. It'll cost you some money, but its totally worth it.
If you just want the apps use this

It also has a ton of other features, but it makes a flashable backup of all your apps then just flash the zip file and all your apps are back. It's much quicker than titanium but i use titanium for data. Best of all its free...

I know how to backup but I would like it to work different.
Like for instance now I just got back to stock because wanted to see if I can update to 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 but sadly wasn't able.
So now I am probably gonna go to AOKP and after that is installed I need to once again install that big list of apps and its really slow downloading the one at a time from the market.
So I would like to have some way that I have list of programs I want and a software would get the apps from the market for me so I don't really need to do anything.

What you're wanting is much more time consuming and less efficient than the suggestions posted here. Your data wouldn't be restored, so you would have to setup the apps again anyway. You'd have to wait for the market to try to download all of those apps at once, which takes longer than restoring. And there are already apps out there that do what you want to do, the apps just aren't redownloaded from the market. Titanium Backup has other features too, and really helps with clean installs.
I don't think that what you want exists, aside from the built in Google backup. If you'd rather keep doing what you're doing instead of using backup/restore software, it's your time to waste.

Hello , like many of you , i flash my phone quite often. It seems like we always have a new update or new rom . Trust me , im not complaining . I think its amazing .
I am using Titanium Backup now , but its quite a task to sit there and click install on 80+ apps . Is there a way we can auto install our apps with each flash ? Im not positive , but i think busybox can do something to this degree .. but havent really been able to find a cut and dry explanation .

google also auto restores your apps now.. it did it when I flashed and wiped everything to 2.8 again, and my 3 apps I had previously downloaded were automatically restored by Google, lol.

This will put a cwm flashable zip on your SD card that you can use to put TiBu back and everything else before entering your gmail info and giving OTA access to unwanted app downloads. Just thought I would share this from another thread on the subject of google auto restore.

This was offered up in that same thread after the 'update.zip' method was suggested:
You can avoid this by skipping account creations at first boot, just hit skip skip next skip. Then you can go into settings and make sure data backup is unchecked. This prevents automatic data backup/restore when you do log into your account. Now log into your Google account. During setup it will ask if you want your data backed up, make sure to uncheck that! It actually comes up with a message that asks if you really want to delete existing backups on Google servers? Of course you do want it to so this won't happen again.
Do you lose apps when installing a new rom? I was wondering about purchasing Titanium Backup and Rom Manager but do not want to lose them when moving from Rom to Rom.
No...you dont lose them...you just reinstall them

When you try to reinstall apps, I suggest one at a time though, when you try multiple installs at one time, it seems to cause FC's to happen. But, I use this app and save the appbackup folder to my desktop for safe keeping. It is pretty simple app to use.
Purchased apps are always available to you in the market to re-download. When you are in the market click on My Apps and you will see all of your purchased apps. I use Titanium Backup to backup before switching ROMs and daily just to be sure I don't lose anything. The purchased version lets you reload all of your apps without being prompted one at a time. If you have a lot of apps that is definitely worth it.
I was putting roms on my phone at one point every day or two. I never lost anything because I had good backups.

I agree with cyberpyr8, that is a good app, if you want to pay money for it. The one I suggested is free if you are penny Pincher like me.
Have a question about the google backup option, where it automatically downloads and restores apps. Is there a way to clear out the apps it has in memory, and then back up fresh? I used it a while back, and now I have a nice clean set up the way I want, but when I turned it on it starts downloading all the old apps I no longer wanted.
Any ideas how to reset or clear out that list?

I've never found a way to clear google's list of apps on their side. However, if you skip google setup during the initial setup of the phone, and then setup your account later, it will not automatically download your apps.

You should try titanium backup. The 5 is worth it. After I install a new Rom I skip all the initial setup and just restore with Ti backup and reboot and everything is perfect

+1 - I found Titanium Backup to be one of the greatest apps. I had a ton of issues with Google trying to re-download all of my apps and created a mess of things. I just keep a backup copy of Titanium Backup on my sd card (the .apk) so I don't even have to open the market to download it. Restore apps after rebooting into my new rom and done! No More issues.
if u want to get rid of a app when u turn Google backup on you got to let it install and them uninstall it and sync
If you go to the web based version of the Android market you can edit what apps are associated with what phone. I actually have an old Droid that I mainly use as an alarm clock in the docking station and I just download apps from the online market and then I have the option of which phone I want to send it to.

Okay, after much reading and studying I am preparing to get ready to root.
Wondering if I need to back up at all before unlocking. I manually copied over my pics and vids and have exported my contacts.
If a nandroid is felt to be necessary for safety purposes before unlocking then you can disregard the rest of my post, I will temp root and use Titanium (although I am still curious about how the apps install on Android OS). If it's not really necessary then I have more questions:
As far as apps go...
If I don't care about user settings/data of apps does it matter if I back them up or not? I can always redownload from Market right? Or will flashing a ROM break the market ties? I have apps from Market and from Amazon.
When apps install do they put files in different folders like on Windows or do they stay "whole" as programs used to do on older Macs? Just wondering how the back up/restore will work. I have grabbed a lot of apps to try out and there's many that I will not install again once I get a clean phone. So is there something I can use to make a back up without temp rooting? I know I won't be able to do a nandroid, does that matter?
Or is it better and safer to temp root with CleanTool, back up with Titanium and then restore the apps I want after I unlock and root and flash a ROM and kernel? Doing it this way will save all my user data, correct?
Also, I'm not worried about phone settings like what icons I have on my home page etc... I haven't gotten it exactly how I want it yet anyway. Still deciding how I want to set it all up so that it works best for me.

If you want to make a back up of your apps you will have to temp root. Ti backup or Mr backup are good for doing it just make sure you change where they save to the sd2. They start out saving to the sd card which in this phone is the internal which gets wiped.

I went through the same thought process you're going through before I rooted (this past weekend). What I ended up doing was exporting my contacts directly from "People". I then just went directly to unlock and perm root. I was expecting to be able to restore my apps and contacts from the market, but to my surprise, was not able to do so. I imported my contacts back, and then proceeded to re-setup my phone by re-downloading apps from the market. Not really THAT painful, and going forward, I have Nandroid and Titanium backups.
You're aware you can do a native screen capture of your present phone screens by pressing power, then home, aren't you?
I temp rooted and used titanium backup. I like to be able to restore data on 3rd party apps only. I use mybackup pro for sms (I only keep 200 per contact, but nice not to lose them), then use google for contacts, calender, etc.
Although you can always backup your apps and data using these programs, anytime you flash a new ROM, it's best to install all of the apps fresh and not restore data from a different ROM (such as the stock ROM). Since I know you want to use Ineffabilis, you might want to use Titanium backup or something to just backup the apps, not the data on those apps. Makes things much better.
EDIT: Also, you can't do a Nand backup without a recovery installed, which requires the phone to be unlocked and perm rooted. You can always backup your apps and data with temp root, but a true Nandroid backup is something that you can't do until you have perm root.

Does anyone happen to know if Words with Friends stores data on my phone or if it's stored on their server since it's between two different people or how I can tell? I'm kicking my bro's ass in a game right now so I DEF don't want to lose that. One day he WILL RESPECT his little sis!

Market knows you've bought apps though so it's no problem to re-download paid apps, right? I have this thing about doing everything fresh on computers so I might just do the same on this baby.
Also, I'm not concerned about my phone screens, I haven't set them up enough to care.

Hahaa, too funny. I'm pretty sure that's all over the network. I reinstalled the app after flashing Ineffabilis and just had to sign back in to get all my games back. Hence the fact that you can continue games on Facebook and such.

paid apps show up on your acct but free ones don't and you have to search for them. If you are looking for just an app backup, app monster pro works well for this and can do apk backup for most apps (some are protected). Just set it up for old style back up, doesn't require root.

I've never had any problems restoring data on 3rd party apps. I never restore system apps/data.

Ah, touche That's right. I forgot it was just system apps that you want to stay away from regarding data. I just always do a clean install on all apps when I install a new ROM anyway.
I got my son (he bought it) a Nexus 9 at launch from the Play Store. It has some of the design issues and we may need to swap it, but he's hesitant since he's got all his apps and settings on it now. Without rooting, is there any way to transfer everything to a new device. We have held off on rooting due to warranty issues and wanting to get a few updates down before tweaking it. Can I just copy all the system folders and files to the new device or is it more complex than tha. I own Titanium Backup for my other android devices but it only works with Root. Any easy way to do it.
Try helium backup. Also Google's backup works really well. When you get the new device It should restore it. Make sure you have backup and reset on in the existing device.

If you are going to give the nexus 9 another try, there is no need, lollypop backs up all settings and apps (allthough not app settings) and restores them on first setup from the cloud.

No, the data inside the app would be lost, you can use as jd1639 said "helium", which even if you are not root, has a method to backup apps and app data.
