Are there any known issues with using the latest CWM recovey for the Evo View running Honeycomb? I have just downloaded cwm 5.8.1.5 and was going to flash it but I wanted to make sure there aren't any known issues first.
Is anybody else using cwm 5.8.1.5? If so, what improvements did it bring from the default 4.x version?
it recognize both internal and external memory so you can flash roms or files from the internal memory if you don't have an sd card ..
it's best to post any questions on the original thread to get better respond
Thanks for the info. To install it did you just take the recovery-clockwork-5.8.1.5-express.img file you downloaded and rename it to PG41IMG.zip and then let the fastboot detect it to install it? Or is there a zip version that is flashable from the older cwm recovery?
NP.. I used ROM Manager to flash it
It also can be flashed using fastboot command

Will this method work if you get a different device? Say downgrading from a Vibrant to a MT4G?

From rommanager flash clock work recovery then boot into recovery and find the zip and flash
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes rename the zip file to update.zip but that should have already been done when you rooted your phone.
^ no. you never rename a rom.
Flash cwr
Reboot into cwr
Install zip from sd
Check out the noob guide (signature) for much more detail and steps.
You can do it from rom manager, but cwr still needs to be flashed.
I have a rogers tab on 3.2 and im having troubles rooting. Ive downloaded the root.zip and placed it in the root of the internal memory.
When i try and lash it via the stock recovery by choosing "apply update from sdcard" i receive the following error.
"E:error opening /data/media: No such file or directory"
Any thoughts?
I've searched here and cant seem to find anyone with the same issue.
You need to Odin clockwork mod first them flash the zip.

You have to rename it into update.zip
Otherwise you have to choose it manually which shouldn't be a problem anyway.

will try flashing CWM via odin... is it the same version as the 7510?
Do you have P7500? If so, I referenced the following link to root my Rogers tab P7500:
http://galaxytabhacks.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-hacks/how-to-root-galaxy-tab-10-1-the-easy-way/
found the issue.. i had encrypted the device, hence why i could not flash anythign from sd card
even after installing CWM i still could not flash anything as recovery could not get access to sd card, ended up having to flash rogers stock rom back and starting over.
Hello to all, i came from Malaysia and i just got my GT-P7500, done fashing to ICS 4.0.4 running XXLQ8 stock ICS with Kernel 3.1.10..
I tried rebooting into stock recovery mode, when i choose to update flash from external storage, the system is telling me that E:/ volume not found,
/sdcard notfound.. Can somebody or anybody explain this and explain to me how to flash update..
Do i need another recovery mod or can i do it with the original stock recovery mod??

I think the reason your post has not been answered is because we don't know exactly what you're asking. Also most answers are already posted. You just have to search and read them.
I'm not sure what you're doing myself, but I think you need to use Odin to flash CWM recovery and then use that recovery to flash ROMs, kernels, etc...
Since I really don't know what you're trying to do, you need to make sure what I said is REALLY what you need to do. By searching and reading you will find your answer.

tq very much.. right now, i'm trying to do just like u say, if it works, i'm in your debt..
what i meant was, that my android recovery system cannot detect the path to SD card, since the gt-p7500 did not have any SD Card slots, so i can't flash any .zip files from my tab.. Thanks so much..

One of the partitions on your tablet is mounted as /mnt/sdcard (or /sdcard). You normally push files there using USB from your computer, either using "adb push" or mounting the sdcard as a media device on the computer.
Stock recovery does not let you choose a file from the /sdcard directory. I think the errors you're seeing is that the stock recovery isn't finding the files it's looking for.
You'll need to install Clockwork Mod recovery if you want to flash custom ROMs.
Galaxy Tab doesn't have an SD Card slot, so anything with external storage/mounting USB/ etc won't work in recovery. Flashing a ROM is possible because the data partition is read and treated as SD Card. If you need to add something to your tab via USB while it's in recovery, you'll need to use the Android Debug Bridge and type adb push, then the file, then the destination.
Example:
Code:
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/
Hi
I just bought a second hand nook tablet and it was flashed the CM10.2, I'm preparing to flash CM11 on it, but it seems the recovery is a bit older.
I download the latest recovery.img from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2585175.
But I've no idea about how to update the recovery, could anyone give some help? Thanks in advance.

Oops.

Here's how:
Download any flashable internal recovery zip file (e.g., flashable_CWM_6.0.2.9.zip from Succulent's repo http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery).
Use an archive file manager such as 7-zip to delete and replace the recovery.img inside the flashable zip file with your choice of TWRP (internal recovery) file from http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/acclaim (e.g., openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-acclaim.img); remember to rename the downloaded TWRP .img file to recovery.img before inserting it into the zip file.
Flash the resulting flashable recovery zip file using current EMMC recovery or SD-based recovery.
I have an 8gb nook tablet that I rooted probably 2 and a half years ago and haven't changed anything on it since. I am wanting to undo and update to current root and flash a 4.4 rom like on my phone. What is the best way to go about this? I know how to unroot, I just need to know the best way to root currently. Thanks.
Custom ROMs like CM comes with built-in root capability, and moreover once installed replaces completely the existing ROM currently in place (be it stock ROM, rooted stock ROM, or another custom ROM). As such, there is no need to root (or re-root) prior to flashing a custom ROM. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575489 for more background info and pointers.
Cool, thanks for the reply and links. I have some reading to do.

Will your guide for Installing CM10.1 Internally on Nook Tablet work for the 8gb model also? Will it work for CM11 also?

It should work (with the usual caveat YMMV). Flashing CM11 requires CWM version 6.0.4.5 or later, or TWRP version 2.6.3.0 or later (in step 2(b) of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43326042&postcount=123); you can find the SD version of TWRP 2.6.3.x at http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/acclaim. You also need a recent Gapps version corresponding to the CM11.
Alternatively, if your NT is already on CM10.x (as my NT was), you can:
download CM11 ROM and the corresponding Gapps zip files onto your NT (user content media partition).
use SD based recovery to flash a flashable emmc CWM zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48855275&postcount=2) or flashable emmc TWRP zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49111924&postcount=8) into emmc.
remove SD then boot onto emmc recovery (which is installed in step 2) and use it to install the ROM and Gapps zip files downloaded in step 1.
Remember to use SD based recovery to backup your current ROM before flashing CM.
I need help once again. In step 2a. of Installing CM10.1 Internally on Nook Tablet, I do not see the boot.zip with the 3 files needed and I am not sure how to extract them from the .img file from the pre-made SDcard images. I've only used linux like once and that was to root my Droid DNA. Thank you for your patience with me.
Nevermind...I found a Linux Reader program that let me extract them.
Thanks again.

For future reference, you can use 7-zip (which is available for windows) to open .img files and extract its content.

I did try 7-zip first and it didn't work. I may have just done something wrong. I'll try it again. Thanks for all the help.
