I had the same problem the dye from the leather cover stained the white plastic on my tab,
The only thing that worked was a polishing compound made for getting scratches out of perspex windscreens not cheap from motorcycle shops, you could try rubbing the stain with toothpaste which is after all a fine polishing compound, try a small area first.

I have the tmo tpu case, which is pretty decent. However, dust and friction seem to have scuffed the bezel and back plate. I plan on getting the hybrid tpu case and hopefully the tighter fit will keep my phone safer.
My question is, has anyone else experienced this and tried to polish the scuffs out? Is it even possible? I looked online and can't find anywhere that sells the bezel. I have looked and found a replacement back plate, but I'm more worried about the bezel.
Sounds stupid and anal, but this is an expensive phone and I've got a good screen protector and case. I like the quality of the glass but am disappointed by the build of the rest of the shell of this thing.
Prior to this, I had a g1 that I kept safe and scratch free other than one drop with just an invisishield kit for 2 years. I love this phone but it is fragile.
Try a metal-polishing cloth--NO CHEMICALS!
I saw a vibrant on display at a tmobile store and the bezel had been nicked and the shiny part was starting to peel off just like it was foil, so id be real careful rubbing on it. Personally id rather have no "chrome" at all, especially if its not real.

polish plastic
Any plastic that is scratched can be polished, it depends how deep it is. Semichrome polish will do it, but make sureto test as some plastics can react to the chemical that is in the polish and it possibly could stain the finish. i ll post the other methods on "how to polish plastic".
The black felt cloth was pushed against my NT in my bag. No there are two black marks on the silver edge right next to the screen. Anyone know how to clean that off? I tried a cloth with some water with no results. Thanks, Endless.
I find I get the best results with Cascade and my dishwasher. Make sure you have "heated drying" on when you do it.

Sounds intriguing.. I may try some Oxyclean.

Seriously, I think it has something to do with the texture of the surface. I've had my NT in a leather folio for two days now, and it's already picked up the black of the leather.

I have been using a purple eyeglass cleaning cloth to wipe off fingerprints and such since I got mine. Recently I noticed some of the purple color had come off onto the silver edges next to the screen. I dampened a piece of paper towel with rubbing alcohol and wiped away. It took a little bit of rubbing but the color came off without hurting the original silver finish on the Nook Tablet. The alcohol I used was only 50% isopropyl. I would use it again if needed. Good Luck.
This gray microfiber cloth may be worth a try to avoid having to clean with alcohol all the time. I have a different type of gray microfiber cloth that doesn't seem to mess bother the gray exterior of the NT.
I've seen a couple of reports of folks cleaning their Tablet with the black cloth that comes with the screen protector from B&N and it leaving permanent black marks on the edge. One of them got a replacement from B&N.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser ftw!

I use 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and a soft cloth to clean/degrease my Nook all the time (3+ times a day) with no issue. 70% IPA should give you more cleaning power than water but be gentle on the plastic unlike other solvents like acetone, toluene, etc.
I used nook cloth aswell and it stained my son's bezel. I think it is because of this porous rubber coat on the frame. I have seen it before and seems to be very absorbent to dye. design flaw by Barnes and noble for sure.
Having this same problem. Got a case for my NT and now deciding to sell it on ebay. Took off the case to clean it up only to find that there are black scuffs all over the gray bezel that so far have not been removable (tried alcohol, lighter fluid, fantastik, windex).
Gonna try oxyclean and CLR and vinegar next but I fear it will not work and possibly make it worse. Wonder if B&N will admit to this problem and replace it. Probably the same issue for Nook Color but the black bezel hid the problem.
So I'm out of ideas.. I've tried everything I can think of..
alcohol, peroxide, oxyclean, fantastic, 409, wd-40, goo-gone, comet, vinegar, CLR, limeaway, and scrubbing bubbles.
Using an old baby toothbrush and rubbing on small spots on the back to test... but no success. No fading, nothing.
My NT looks like it has freckles and I'm about to ebay it anyway (Got HTC Flyer now) but really wish it was cleaner.
This is just one edge, but all 4 edges and the back look like this:
this would work, but i am not sure you want to do it, i'd make sure to mask of the screen just in case but:
some 00/000/0000 steel wool and buff that crap out.
The silver paint is really a poor choice. I've been pretty careful in the few days I've had mine and I notice a scuff around the volume button... I'm assuming from my fingernail... which I keep short.
I use eyeglass cleaner. I spray it on a soft cloth, then use that to rub off all the fingerprints, etc. Works like a charm.

I use the same for my screen. My eye doctor gives little kits w/ a cloth and a bottle of cleaner for free when you get a new pair of specs. Works like a charm.
Barring that I'd go w/ rubbing alcohol for the silver bits.

The silver metal edges on my Nook have also gotten black\brown blotches from the case (not leather) I'm using.
I tried many of the same cleaning tricks you did including dish washing detergent. The marks faded a bit, but they are still there.
I'm very satisfied with my Nook and plan to keep it. I covered the metal edges with scotch tape (1/2" is just wide enough to cover the area most affected by the blotching). This will keep it from getting worse, and hopefully someone will find a cleaning solution that will work. The tape is entirely under the case, so it is not seen and doesn't get tampered in any way.
My NT has the same problem. Does anyone find the way to solve this problem?
If you are out of ideas, you could use masking tape to tape off the screen, then paint it. Just a random thought

Glad I haven't had this problem with mine. I've had mine for probably 6 months now in a leather case and it appears to be fine.
Is anybody having problems with hairline cracks on the battery cover. I have noticed that there are several hairline cracks in my battery cover. White. It's really hard to see but there are several hairline cracks in the coating not all the way through the plastic. Not to concerned because I ordered a replacement a couple of weeks ago just to be on the safe side. Just thought I would ask if anyone has this problem. You have to look closely expecially around the camera hole. Easier to spot on the white.

Same here, but I'm not sure if it happened when I dropped it underneath the car seat.

There have been many complaints in Taiwan on mobile01.com from the battery cover cracking.... Its actually not the cover itself but the paint on the surface, happens on both white and blue.... u can only see in certain lighting and angles. It seems to happen if you flex the cover too much when u take it off... My way around this is to use a credit card to go around the edges to remove the cover instead of peeling it back
Yep same on my white one too

I'll dig the instructions out when I get the chance and look but just wondering if Samsung have covered their own arses by giving you some warning or guide for removing cover.
Yeah, I have a crack between the headphone hole and the loud speaker, and it is causing the top right corner not to clip into the body properly. I have ordered a replacement back cover.
Yeah i noticed this too, I was bending the battery cover and this cased hairline cracks on the gloss paint on the outside of the battery cover. the plastic itself is fine, since its the same as the s2 cover which could literally be folded in half and go back to normal. but then again the black s2 cover didn't have any paint.
so bottom line is: the plastic of the battery cover is very flexible, but the gloss paint isn't and that's what cracks!
My laminate on the back panel started to peel so I sent the cover back for replacement (have a naked S III for a few days). Also the grip to putt it off at the top cracked.

No cracks on my cover, had the phone for about a month. I guess I am probably more careful than you guys when I remove the cover because I have long nails (real ones ) and I don't want to break them (I learnt the hard way with with the S2 )

I also have a white s3 and have a crack on the cover that goes half way across the back. Did 2nd day with the phone. Not going to bother changing it, it dosnt affect anthing i hope:cyclops:
I got this leather case for my Nook Tablet a while back when I first got my nook. I thought it was a sweet case and really like it the first few weeks. One of my friends wanted to try it on her Nook Color, so when I took it off my Nook, I noticed these black marks around the screen. Because of the porous nature of the plastic bezel on the Nook (and the dye not being completely dried into the leather), the plastic bezel absorbed the dye used in the case. IT WOULD NOT COME OFF. I tried everything! Nothing seemed to get the black dye marks off of the bezel! UNTIL NOW, THAT IS!
I was at CVS trying to find something somewhat useful to spend my $2 extrabucks reward on, and I came across this stain remover from OxiClean. It's called the Max Force Pre-Treater. It comes in this gel stick. I had some grass stains I was trying to remove so I got it. Just now I thought about using it to clean those marks off of my Nook. I dabbed a little on, waited a few minutes, and buffed it with a wet paper towel, and sure enough, some of the marks started coming off. From what I can tell, there's absolutely no damage done to the finish on the plastic bezel.
I understand this problem has plagued a few NT owners that use leather covers/cases. The stick is $3 and if you're desperate to remove the black stains on the bezel, you have almost nothing to lose. I'll update on how effective it is as soon as I can.
If it works for you, don't forget to thank me! I'm still an xda-noob at the moment.
Update
It has proven to be effective for stains that aren't completely set in. Unfortunately, most of the stains on mine were the ones set when it initially came out, and they seem to be rather..permanent. Sorry if this disappointed anybody
I don't know how come when I wiped my phone with a blue cloth to clean it a tiny tiny blue cloth got stuck between the metal frame and the white plastic surrounding the screen.
I can not seem to get it out as it seem its embedded in between them, its an sore for me, any ideas guys how to remove this

use youtube and see how to disassemble your device. I've been there and pulled apart mine, and it is quite time consuming, but not very hard.
Other than that, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, send it in for repair and cough up the 50$ charge.
