Hi guys,
I want to order a USB Jig to reset flash counter and remove yellow triangle from my sgs2.
I want to know if resetting flash counter can still be done using the Jig, ive been reading that new bootloaders block it?
if not, can it still remove the yello triangle?
also, any other functions for usb jig besides removing those two items?
Thanks.
If you find the jig doesn't reset the flash counter, flash the old bootloader from here (it's in the section in bold red type) in the PDA or Bootloader section of Odin and your jig should work.
Apart from setting Custom Binary Download to "no" & Current Binary to "Sasmung Official" in download mode, I'm not aware of the jig having any other functions.
well, the jig will put the phone into download mode, even with the new bootloader. it will fail to reset the counter then thought, just as mentioned
Removing yellow triangle
You can remove yellow triangle, by downloading the stock kernel from intratech's thread on xda and flash the .tar file via Odin..
then u unzipped the CF root zip file, copied the zImage file into sd card .. and flashed the zImage file via CWM Manager, selecting Flash Kernel.
Hope this makes sense to you.

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S2 .
I want to know that if i root the stock firmware and then if warranty issue arises , reflash my stock firmware .
After this would there be any way to know whether it the phone was rooted .?
Would that increase the counter that increases for the illegal FW's flashed .?
B'coz i'm not using custom/illegal ROM's
So this way would i preserve my warranty .??
you can root by flashing cf-root kernel and then if for any reason something happens you can flash back to stock firmware but the binary counter will go up one so just buy a usb jig for like $8.

But why would the counter increase if i reflash with stock ROM .??
cuz in order to root you need to flash cf-root kernel which is unofficial. It wont go back to 0 if you flash back to stock. the only way i know to reset is with a usb jig unless there is some other way

Insert the jig after you turn it off.
Is the jig model specific or any would work ??
Intratech has an amazing thread with the carrier firmware. Download your carrier firmware and go crazy with the flashing. If your device starts playing up and you want to warranty it, reflash your carrier firmware. Plug in USB jig (wipes binary counter) and you're done

Get one thats called Samsung Galaxy S USB JIG from ebay
Hi, I'm trying to get the yellow triangle off my phone so I bought a USB jig off ebay and when I put it in my phone it doesn't go into odin mode, instead it goes into factory mode.
I know samsung has changed the bootloader in 2.3.5 firmware but my phone is only on 2.3.4, any ideas?
firmware I have is 2.3.4
Kernel version – 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 [email protected] #2
If the powers on but doesn't into download mode, the jig is faulty, wrong resistor value.
Exchange it for a working one.

whats factory mode? I made my jig and it only cost about 8 dollars including paying for a soldering iron, it was really easy, and now i have an iron for future use! try pulling the battery for 10 seconds, then after reinserting the battery, reinsert the jig.
I had the same problem. Then I learnt that old bootlader is required if you want to use a jig. New bootloaders render the jig ineffective. So
1. go to this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and READ CAREFULLy somewhere halfway down the post to this part...
All packages below this point have the old bootloader so you can safely reset the binary counter with a Jig.
If you've already flashed a full package from elsewhere or updated using KIES and cannot reset your binary counter using the Jig just flash this package in the PDA or Bootloader section of Odin to replace the bootloaders and then you can reset the counter: http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD
Here are the new bootloader tarball if you want to flash them back after resetting your binary counter: http://www.multiupload.com/5LNOCL7KPV

2. flash the appropriate kernel.
3.Use the jig. Lose the yellow triangle!
4.then reflash any kernel you want, if you really want to.
I did the same thing, lost my yellow triangle and then I flashed speddmod kernel!
Hit thanks if this helped! But more importantly thank Intratech on the above linked post because you owe it to him!
thanks for you help..I will have a read up on that, or I might just leave the triangle on since it doesn't bother me much.
just 1 thing though, I thought I read lots of threads and sites that they only changed the bootloader to block these jigs on fw 2.3.5, but I have fw 2.3.4
anyway..cheers for the replies.

sorry, new to sgs2, coming from sgs1, aren't bootloaders included in firmware meaning next Odin flash will update bootloaders? Does that mean you have to flash back old bl after every Odin update to allow you to remove triangle?

I think you are mixing up things.
1. The jig resets the flash counter. It does nothing to the yellow triangle.
2. If you want to remove the yellow traingle, look in the CF-Root thread for instructions. It involves flashing a zimage from a stock kernel.

i thought the same, but fortunately, the jig removes the triangle too xD

As long as you keep geting intratech's ROMs modified with the old bootloader, the jig will remain functional.
If you flash a stock ROM, you will need to reflash the old bootloader

any pros or cons about it
Hi,
When I used my own made Micro Usb JIG, to reset the binary count, i am getting download mode with the following texts on top,
FACTORY MODE (in red)
PRODUCT NAME: GT-i19100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (2 COUNTS)
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
I have made the gig after properly checking the resistance and all, (100K X 3 serially soldered in to 4 & 5 pins)
I don't know why I am not getting odin mode instead of "factory mode" for resting the count and to appear the text in green "erasing download information succeeded"
I have not read any such experience of anybody yet, if somebody has, please share with any solutions ...
[[email protected]
you should not be getting into odin as it is an application no a mode that you need to connect your phone to.
If you have successfully used the jig you should be in download mode. I would check your jig again making sure that you have the right pins connected. The phone sees your jig but is not processing the information properly.
hey, can you post a picture of the Jig you made just to check it
Also, what firmware are you currently on? Newer bootloaders on official firmwares (2.3.5+) were patched so the jig doesn't work on them. You have to flash the old bootloaders to get the jig to work. See Intratech's official firmware thread.

Yes I am getting into download mode but with the "FACTORY MODE" connectable with odin through PC, I checked its added there, but my concern is to reset my binary counter, which I could not, if my pins of usb jig were incorrect I should not get the download mode. But what I watched in youtube is, as soon as Jig is conneced it should get downlad mode in ODIN MODE and saying in green text "erasing download information succeeded"

My current firmware is JPKJ2 routed by CF root v4.4, I managed to delete the yellow warning as directed by Chainfire in his thread, flash stock kernel through ODIN, and flash CF root kernal image from CWM application. now warnig desappeared and Current Binary showing Samsung official. but when I connect my Jig its is same FACTORY mode.....no reseting.
My phone is only one month old may be the new patched bootloder is the matter, Could you tell me how to flash old bootloader safely...
our concern is the reseting of the binary counter and the warrantee, if I flash a new bootloder it may reset counter but, can they identify the flashing of old bootloader.
thanks

I would be grateful if you could answer my these doubts too.
1) If Samsung release the ICS through KIES will I be able to receive update on my CF rooted firmware.
2) is the complete package coming in flashable MD5 file containing bootloder too?
3) do the roms coming in zip file CWM flashable include all Kernal, Radio etc...?
thanks
1) You should be able to get Kies upgrades if you're running a CFRoot kernel over stock firmware. Obviously if you put a non-stock rom on your phone, you'll need to re-flash/go back to stock if you want firmware upgrades via Kies. You can also use Checkfus (search on here for it if you ever need it) to check/download official firmware that's normally available via Kies if you can't use Kies for some reason.
2) Yes. Any roms you download in tar (with md5 hash attached) format normally contain bootloaders (the one's available in Intratech's threads do, for example).
3) That depends on the rom. Refer to the particular thread relating to the rom/or wherever you download it from if you don't get it from here with regard to what's included with the rom. But yes, normally, most roms are packaged with the rom itself, kernel & modem.

Noooo you need to flash the old bootloader not kernel.

I want to reset my custom binary counter using a USB jig, but it turns out that the newer bootloaders used in 2.3.4 or something onwards renders the jig useless. I can flash an old bootloader that still works with the jig, but I'm afraid that after this my phone will no longer boot as I am using XXLPB android version 4.0.3.
Does using an old <2.3.4 bootloader on ICS work? I don't want to find out the hard way.
There is an app by ChainFire, TriangleAway in the dev thread which can be used to reset binary counter. Check that out.
Note : CF says it's bit risky to do so, but you can try if you are willing to.
Flash the old bootloader, jig it/reset the flash counter, flash the new bootloader. Done. I posted both the old & new bootloaders to a thread yesterday (search for it).

Just curious, I am up to the point where I bought a USB jig from ebay seller and found out that it does not work on my upgraded Samsung Galaxy S2 which I loaded DPXL7 ICS and rooted. I see that I have to flash an old Samsung boot loader for the jig to reset the counter and remove the yellow triangle. Can find the download for the old boot loader but cannot find where to download the new ICS boot loader to put it back to original ICS. So now I see there is a free software you mentioned TriangleAway which you said removes the yellow triangle. But does it reset the flash counter to 0 also? If not I want to find the "new" ICS boot loader file so I can restore back to all ICS original build after I flash the old boot loader and use the USB jig to reset things. I'm searching but finding it hard to locate the threads or websites that give a good working download link. Thanks for any helpers out there!

as messing up with bootlader might even Brick ur phone for sure

Installing the old boot loader won't remove the flash counts, it only removes the yellow triangle as the phone detects it as samsung signed or a secure kernel, triangle away can reset the count and trick the phone into thinking your phone has official firmware. Also a usb jig can do the same and as Sun90 said old bootloader restore is indeed quite risky.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.

But I read somewhere that the USB JIG does not reset the binary count on the new bootloader. Is that correct?
1) Flashing the old bootloader is no more risky than flashing anything else; ergo, any/every Odin flash you do runs the (normally very small risk) of bricking your phone. But it is a very small risk.
2) If you do flash the old bootloader, the jig should reset the flash counter and remove the triangle.
3) You are correct, a jig does not reset the flash counter with recent bootloaders (I've tried this myself).
4) Using Triangle Away also carries the very small risk of something going wrong.
So essentially, it's a coin flip as to how you do it. They're as 'safe' as each other.
Take your pick.
The other way to look at it is if you brick the phone by doing whatever, how are Samsung going to knock back your warranty if they cant boot it up either.

The working of the JIG is related to the bootloader not the kernel.
Made my own jig, and somehow it worked, without any changes to the bootloader
