MTD roms will not work on my phone - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was installing MIUI going from SC or sometimes even stock. For some reason, I can no longer install any MTD based roms on my phone, I get stuck in bootloops when I try to do it. ICS, MIUI and CM7 all do the same thing. Not sure what I can do. I am currently running Geewiz 2.6 which I flashed from Odin. I can install EXT4 roms however. I just want to go back to ICS :-/

Where you do get stuck in a bootloop? What is your install procedure?
I wasn't able to flash MTD roms with a certain SD card I had, is the part where you're getting hung up where it's "waiting for SD card"? I think that happens just after the "checking state of BML/MTD" when you're installing an MTD rom.

You know I think it might be my SD card because I abruptly pulled it out earlier then wiped it then put it back in. The loop is happening past the Samsung logo

Yes, most definately a class 10. My stock card would not install an MTD ROM. There are some people who get lucky and get a stock card that does. Not me.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, I have never heard of the class of sd card interfering with phone in anyway. I'm using the stock 16gb class 2 card that came with my phone and have never had any problems with it

no im not being sarcastic...many folks have had problems with stock sd cards and mtd based roms. I was one of them and a class 10 sd card fixed my issues aswell as many others. Some research on your part would of quickly told you this.

[Q] Phone Storage and SD card won't mount (says "Unavailable")

I recently rooted and installed Bionix V 1.2.1, and it works fine with the 2Gb SD card that came with the Vibrant. However, whenever I put either one of my 2 Transcend 8GB cards (both formatted to FAT32) into it, neither the internal storage nor the SD cards will mount. The phone still boots properly, but in settings they both show up as "Unavailable".
I have searched the boards and haven't found a fix for this particular issue. Could it be the brand of the SD cards that's causing the issue?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I tried that but it didn't fix the issue
I seem to be having the same issue, any help would be appreciated =)
Bionix 1.2.1 has numerous issues. Im a nero fan. But bio1.2.1 was not good
I couldnt download anything from xda.
Now on 2.2.1 stock rom from einherjar dev team.
It is the best rom out. Period. And few have tried it.
So get goin. U wont be sorry.

Look at q&a its all bionix problems right now. 1.2.1 has clear problems right now.

ya, reinstalling didn't work for me either. I was really liking Bionix, but maybe I'll try another rom.
@torturedsoul: did you try booting without a microsd card? Mine only works when i boot with no card or with a Sandisk 2GB Class 2 microsd. Neither of my 2 Transcend 8gb Class 6 cards work, so I'm thinking the rom just might not like those cards.
@Mr Orange: If I was going to switch roms, should i just disable voodoo lagfix and then install a new rom from recovery or is there another step? (sorry for the noob question). Also, is mobile AP working for you in the einherjar rom?

False, it does work.
It appears there is more than one cause for this, and more than one solution as well. I removed my micro sd card and now my internal is working fine. I would like to figure out what do do about the external slot not working though...

GB Sd card fix (EC09)

according to Tom Gray, who's leaked fixed files I'll post later, to fix the sd card issue, remove autorun.iso from the /system/etc/ folder asap. it embeds itself in the sdcard and does some strange things.
just passing it along. will post newest gb leaked fixed files in the am when they are released on fb, unless someone beats me to it.
Nameless doesn't include that file and people are still getting burned SC cards from that ROM.
It was a nice try, but that's probably not the problem.
from what I understand, it's included with the ec09 leak, then it embeds itself in the sdcard. could happen prior to flashing perhaps. perhaps not. just passing along some info, hoping to help.

That makes sense then, as you're supposed to ODIN the leak before flashing nameless or some other ROM.

It doesn't happen, because my ROM formats all partitions where data is stored by the OS. The file isn't included with the ROM as said before, and even if you did flash the stock ODIN before you flashed the ROM, the ROM will format the space where that file would exist, therefore it would never be there.

IMO the GB Leak was one of the fastest rom's I have tested to date. I did not have any SD Card issues with it so not sure what I had done differently than others or perhaps I was just lucky. My only problem was that network-location based apps would not load.

Let me ask this, did everyone who have their SD cards fried, odined to EC09 first, then re-root your phones?
Any methods that you use to root gingerbread roms, is called gingerbreak, and it has problems frying SD card.
So for those of you who came from Froyo, but didn't care about EC09 modem, flashed the EC09 roms, without re-rooting, should not have the SD card problems.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, if it gets stuck but you do see the card mounting/unmounting, try formatting your SD card yourself and try again (or use a different SD card) -often this works (a fix for both issues is being looked at)"

I have had zero SD card issues with EC09. I did odin the full rom/modem, them used the gingerbreak apk installed from SD card. I also have tested out navenedrob's Nameless v4.1, gonna use it daily, for now, I really like it. I have also tried out jptech's TechnoROM v1 test, not a fan of the launcher. I have flashed both roms and odin'd the ec09 leak several times in the past few days, no SD card issues. the browser downloader, and the market however, hope that gets figured out soon. And FYI nameless v4.1 with nemesis2all OTBv2 recovery and netflix I have been wearing out the battery watching cartoons.

I never odin'd the leak, I just flashed nameless via cwm so I didn't have to reroot. However my SD still died after about 12 hours. I agree there must be some reason some have issues and some don't but I don't think that's it.

I followed these directions to load EC09.
http://t.co/3jqjJNV
I've been running it now for a week and I haven't had any problems at all.
In fact so far this has been one of the better roms I have ran, battery life on this leak has almost been double what I was getting on any other were I would be lucky to get 20hours. Now at that mark I still have almost 40% left.
I do have to say that it does run quite a bit slower though .
Where on froyo everything was snappy this thing takes some time to process even simple things, but I would totally exchange speed for the battery life I have now.
Just follow p3droids instruction on loading EC09 and rooting it via adb and your good to go.

I did this and it killed my SD card.
As soon as I loaded the EC09 leak, the phone refused to recognize the pre-installed sdcard, which was a class 4. Once I switched to a class 6 card, I have not had any problems. BTW, I used SuperOneClick to root the EC09 leak.

Mtd roms sometimes don't get along with some SD cards. You can try formatting in cwm. If you have a spare card try formatting and using that one.
Always use proper mounting, un mounting methods.

when you're formatting are you doing a full erase or a quick format?
you might try a full erase, check for bad sectors and what not, use easeus partiton manager, or gparted, of the sd card formatter.
Miui ate my samsung card about a month ago and it was unrecoverable.
What brand of sd card are you having problems with? stock samsung, sandisk , or kingston?
The samsung cards are known to be shotty to begin with.

How did you format yours? Through the phone or using the computer? Damn formatting through the computer takes 30 min for me. I have not tried formatting through the phone yet cause I heard its one of the guarantees of frying the sd cards on EC09 days, not sure if this roms frying abilities is the same.

[Q] CM7 Upgrade help

I have been using CM7 for quite a while now and recently it this week I have been unable to add apps or even update the ones i had. I would like to move on to a newer version one perhaps a little more stable than the rom i have been using as this one was a fairly early version. I tried the raywaldo reset to stock using a repart cart and it will not boot off the card. It always loads the Team-b CM 7 boot process. I can get to CWM via the reboot option. Is there a reason the repart.img isnt loading? WTF am I doing wrong here???

Check your SD card space. If it is none, get a new one and it should work. You need an SD card to download anything.
I have a 4gb and a 32gb card tried both.
Burn the repart.img to the 4GB card, pop it in the Tablet (powered up), insert the charger cable, connected to the charger and hopefully the repart will start.

The process of flashing a custom ROM does not need/use any component of the stock ROM, and a custom ROM replaces the stock ROM in its entirety on the NT active partitions, hence there is no benefit in returning to stock prior to flashing a custom ROM; see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31 for some more background info.
