Basically i'm a noob to all the rooting stuff and I want to learn, I been looking at doom's rooting kit and he advises backing up your phone, and installing a adb driver for my phone.. How do I go about backing up my phone and installing these drivers?
My phones a samsung galaxy s2
It is Pretty easy to root a samsung galaxy s2
1. Flash an insecure kernel using ODIN
2. Root it with either SuperOneClick or S2Root.
3. Enjoy.
There are many guides to help you check them out
If you really read on to the doom rootkit. It have mention how to do it.

Heya,
I just read d procedure for rooting via odin ,flashing an insecure kernel then rooting via superoneclick and then flashing again a secure kernel.i want to know in this process ,do i lose my personal data like.contacts calenders ,music ,pics etc.
And yes isnt there a one step process to root the s2 like there is for galaxy s,which is ,just download and app and press root? If not ,why?

Flash the cf root kernel and it roots automatically and gives you CWM. There are instructions on the cf kernel site also how to remove the yellow triangle too

No benefit at all unless you want or need to use apps that require root access .
principle would be Titanium back up or CWM full rom backup .
As a fer instance i have just backed up all my apps via Titanium backup pro followed by a full backup of the phones firmware to wipe the phone test a custom rom and roll-it all back if needs be.

thanks for reply mate, think i will just leave it as it is
Hi guys
Does Galaxy S2 has a tool to root it similar to unrevoked for HTC?
This would make things easier for us....
Regards
Marc
just use ODIN and flash a rooted kernel.
about 30 sec and u good to go.
There is also SuperOneClick root. Does it in 1 click!
Super1click is like unrevoked. The difference is that sgs2 must have an insecure kernel installed to be rooted in this way. XXDD kernel installed via Odin has worked for me. Install that kernel then run super1click via your computer.

Hi there,
I have read quite a few forums/threads/blogs but still haven't found a simple answer.
Basically, I am still using stock rom (Samsung Galaxy S2) and have install many apps. If I do choose to root my device, do I need to reinstall all the applications?
I know I should do a backup before I start anything but if my device hasn't been rooted yet. How can I do a backup?
Appreciate if someone can give some pointers on how I can root without completely removing the existing rom and wiping out all apps that are installed.
Thank you.

Yes.
Besides, rooting will NOT delete anything from the device and it has nothing to do with ROM change, you will keep your current ROM.

It it depends on what version of ROM you have. You will need to use Odin and flash as PDA , xwdd insecure kernel. Then you can run oneclickroot. This will keep your apps.

Two ways. Both keep your apps, settings and data:
1) Flash CF-Root kernel using Odin. (search for the CF-Root thread in the original Android Development section)
2) Flash an insecure kernel using Odin (search for insecure kernel in the Galaxy S 2 section) and then run Superoneclick from your PC while hooked up to the SGS2.
Personally, I went for the CF-Root method as it is easier. You just end up getting the yellow exclamation triangle at boot, which you can remove by either using Odin to flash the stock kernel in again, then running the ClockworkMod app (it is installed by CF-Root) and flash the unzipped CF-Root zImage file back in, OR, you can use a USB jig that you can buy off ebay for a few dollars to remove the exclamation mark.
hey guys,
I have managed to read up quite a bit on rooting my Samsung Galaxy S2.
From what I understand, I would need to install kies(already done) for the usb driver, then install Odin(done) and download the insecure kernel xwkdd(also done) to flash it
It was also mentioned that in order to remove the yellow triangle on boot, I would need to flash the stock kernel and here's where my confusion is.
I am using the Indian version of Galaxy S2 and would really appreciate if I get help on exactly WHICH kernel to choose as a stock kernel for my device. I did see the kernel list, but not too sure whether it is meant for other nations.
My phones specifications are:
Baseband Version: I9100DDKE4
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKF3
PDA: I9100XWKF3
PHONE: I9100DDKE4
CSC: I9100ODDKF3
So before I go ahead with rooting, please help me with selecting the correct kernel so that I can join the root world... :-D
Thanks in advance,
Vibes
CF root kf3 is the one you need.

thank you very much. i will browse and see if i can find it in the thread which has the kernel list.
CF-Root is simple and quick. Well, after reading how to get it done.
I'm pretty much in the same boat but I don't know which cf-root to use.. how do I tell?
I'm on kernel version DUKH1
hello guyz i just today bought a Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G

i have tried DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su and got the above screenshot
can some one plz help me with it.....

the easiest way ( in my opinion ) is to find your baseband version and down load the corresponding cf root file on itratechs thread and flash it in the PDA section in odin

i am a complete newbie with android so flashing and all is not for me i just need root on my device so that i can install few of the application
As Wezza said, CFRoot is the easiest & most hassle-free root method for SGS2. Takes all of 2 minutes, very remote chance of stuffing your phone up so long as you follow the instructions. By your own admission, you're a 'complete newbie with Android', and IMHO, using a method other than CFRoot to root your phone is just making life unnecessarily complicated for yourself.
Just my (and obviously Wezza's) opinion tho.

Hi everyone, i've acquire recently a Samsung Galaxy S2.
I came from LF P970.
I would like to know, the best and safest way to ROOT my S2, and Tools and procedures needed to flash new rom.
And yes i've used search and also the INDEX of guides and tutorials, but there are too many for the same thing, so i dont know which one i should use.
Best regards,
ruibullseye
Flash a kernel through Odin to root it. Flash a rom through CWM. All of the details are written down in the guides.

First learn how to flash using odin. There are so many guides on xda and other forums. make sure you install samsung kies and have proper drivers for your phone. Then flash siyah kernel v5.0.1 using odin..Then you will easily get root and CWM recovery
