CM or stock ? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

hi all
just wondering which do you prefer and why ?
stock or cm ?
i prefer cm more since it has more features ...how bout you?

cm for more options , battery life

If you want to go to work safely and foremost a stock, with cf-root b84fix and OC and a2sd.

Overall -cm. For me battery life lasted longer in cm than stock. And obviously features add to it.

CM7.2
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App

CM Permission management is the biggest selling point, I love the fact that is integrated and no need to install extra apps or modify apks, plus the 640*480 video recording, last time I checked stock only lets you record video at 320*480, then of course the pletora of additional features and the coolness level

nice idea to make a poll like this

Definitely cm!

my opinion
CM!
Why? (This is just my opinion, i don't wanna pi** anybody off with this.)
Stock has some samsung-only apps like "AllShare" etc. but i dont care about these.
And it has its own contacts browser which supports quick call/sms by swiping over the contact. i really love that feature, but the pros of cm are alot more:
- its looks better (menu effects from ics etc.)
- it has awesome customization options
- it has the theme chooser <3
- and the most important thing: it defo runs faster/better!

i prefer stock based roms
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium

i love cm but can`t install in my galaxy pro,no custom flash recovery anywhere

Stock with CF-Root b84.

it seems cm is more desired than stock ...still what's the upside for stock?

CM7 More speed and better Performance and better Settings

i wait for CM9 Beta

(Custom) Stock. Full stability and more comfortable for daily usage.

stock FTW
for me its modified stock... Ive tried loads of roms and so far omega rocks my world and my phone....

there's some kind of magic when you revert from CM to stock... you know... all working as they should, you have the assurance that your phone won't give up on you. The thing is though after a few minutes on stock and having tried CM you miss lots of things which I can't be bothered to mention now.
So CM for me!

yea...once i use cm and tried back to stock ( based rom) it feels rather odd ...and limited =(

Ok, I need suggestions for rom,

Hi all! I really need a rom with fully-working camera, + fast, stable, bug-free, for adolescent daughter, so I ask your suggestions and your knowledge of this phone.
My own phone is Optimus p500, got it modded to my liking, etc. I got the Ace for the ado daugther in the house 2 days ago. She is a facebook, pictures and sms addict. No overclocking or games for her is needed. She needs a simple, stable, bug-free and fast rom. It needs to not bug or FC so she can impress her friends.. Today I have read through many pages and threads of roms, and I had a quick look at what is available. Ics sunday and cm7.2 rc0 by lates would seems among the most promising available.
A working camera is definitely a must for her. If needed I could always get lg camera and try it, as suggested in some roms to see if I can get no dark videos and LED working. [ I'm wondering if camera gives trouble, nobody tried to get stock samsung camera ported? ] Is there a fail-proof, noob-proof 3rd party camera, or is it the LG one, or is there any rom fail-proof and noob-proof, stable, fast and bug-free? [ I realize nothing is noob-proof, but she need stable, fast, bug-free, a good camera with LED flash working, and facebook. ] If there is no bug-free camera rom I know she'd prefer the laggy stock rom because a working camera is essential for her. I'd hate it for her to be " stuck with stock " though.
Also, is there any roms, options or ways to get 3rd party apps to login using facebook credentials ? Most weird issue. Might be a deal-breaker on any rom for noob adolescent daughter..
Any suggestions? I believe you all know this phone way better than me. I could guide you for my own but I'll appreciate the tour guides for the Ace

Stock ROM?
I
Srsly, the most [relatively] bug-free, stable ROM for the Ace would definitely be Samsung's own.
CM7 for Ace has some minor glitches and bugs ere and there, although its reportedly faster. But since your daughter is not too technical (based on my speculation of your description), having too many or too little options isn't a concern of hers.
You can try a custom stock ROM, of course. It (should have) the same stability, but smoother. The most well recieved custom stock ROM here might be fla.sh's X2, codeROM, and TheMyth ICS. But the first two are dead projects with no active developers.
This post was sent from hell.
Gingerreal is the only option plus facebook issue was there own issue. Its not related with roms. Its fixed with newest version. Everything is working perfect on gingerreal. So you can go with that.

facebook issue is resolved. only thing not working in camera is flash during video .
for stock modiefied rom i recommend mythics , gingereal ,

I like MIUI, I've tested MIUI Spain and MIUI Scotland.
The last one is very, very good but these days is closing :-(
Now I'm looking for a good on to my SGS (GT-I9000). Any recommendation?
MIUI for customisation and look.
CM for speed and performance
stock for stability.
each one has its own + and - . so its all personal preference.

MIUI, but I'm currently on ICS stock because the MIUIv4 ports for my device are buggy as hell. I just wish stock had the icon consistency/theming that MIUI has, its the only thing I miss.

Currently CyanogenMod, because of my Xperia X8 is not supported by MIUI and Stock crashes a lot. So CyanogenMod. I actually use a ROM based on CyanogenMod called GingerDX by Doixanh, because of the stock CyanogenMod wants FreeXperia kernel and errors occurred when I was doing it (actually I was trying to flash NobodyAtAll's nAa kernel) and I tried on my Galaxy 5 (now it is my sister's)(Galaxy 5= GT-I5500), it worked after flashing the correct baseband on ODIN Multi Downloader.
I would go with MIUI if there was a working from with no bugs. So atm I'm using ICS

What ROM do you use on your Nexus One?
Another vote for CM due to it's tweakability.
Personal favourites can be found only by testing, testing and testing.
I'd try CM, but it requires an unlocked bootloader, which voids warranty, and disables me from using OTA updates. :/
Same reason as Mattyas: Tweakability.
I like CM to, but unfortunately they didn't make one yet for alcatel ot-990 :-(
I have used it on my Tattoo that I had and it was great. I am still searching for at least some customisations that are on cm.

MIUI = Customizable and better redesigned look.
CM7 = Stock Android look (with exception of Theme Chooser themes) but greater performance and stability.
CM7 always ran much smoother and faster for me but I always loved MIUI's UI. I stick with CM7 just because it is always stable and reliable. HTC Passion (Google Nexus One).
hv tried stock based,cm based n miui based roms for sometime. all of them hv been stable n gud.
but i like miui cos of its customisation. each themes gives a new look to my fone. m jus lovin it

I have used all three types and I have liked things from all of them and found fault in all the same. It all just came down to what I liked the most for what I wanted/needed.
I use mainly MIUI as I love the thousands of custom themes that are easily mixed and matched.
In the end it is always up to what you feel is the right one for you. The best advice I can give you is to try each one for a week and after that you should have a good idea of which one is best for you.
one do you like? CyanogenMod/MIUI
MIUI. I haven't updated to MIUI v4 because I like the theming too much, and there aren't many themes compatible with MIUI ICS.
I've actually been on MIUI for almost a year.

Stock on my Xperia X8 Crashes, Original MIUI doesn't support X8 (There are ports on XDA for X8) and I have tried MIUI on My Uncle's HD2 (but not MIUIv4) (he is not from blood, just for respect and he works at my dad's office) and CyanogenMod wants FreeXperia Kernel and I am using a ROM Called GingerDX, which is based on CyanogenMod 7.1 (and available for the Stock Kernel). So currently CyanogenMod, reasons: Tweaks, themes, etc. (I just like it).
P.S: If I was unfair, then I'm sorry.

Hi,
First off, galaxy s2 is still an amazing phone compared to the beasts released this year, fulfills every need at great speed and life.
I would recommend to you the Hyperdroid rom, it is simply the best where speed, life, response and its simplicity matters. I am a very happy user, thanks to Hyperdroid team, it wouldn't have been possible for me not to worry about its battery life and yet get great performance. It's based off official Samsung rom, so everything is guaranteed working. Best combination would be Hyperdroid rom + Redpill kernel which is also made by the same dedicated team, props to them. You won't be disappointed
Regarding the notification light, yes it very much possible, if I'm not wrong it requires a custom kernel like redpill...or any other of your choice. From the play store, type in BLN notification.
Samsung Galaxy SII Xtreme ED
Xtreme Energy-Xtreme Power to Live

I recommend the "MIUI v4" Rom..ist smooth and beautifull...and there are updates every week

Why not try some other launcher, such as Go Launcher, ADW, etc, in place to pick a full ROM?
You mean I can put adw. On top of miui, I'm gonna give that a try. Also is there any way to make a log of all the websites visited through any browser and have that remotely accessible?

I'm currently using v14 of this rom on SGS2 and for me it's just what I need
Many apps/settings included in this rom makes using the phone much faster and easier
It also includes Apex lancher mentioned by indresh88 which I guess is the best lancher

i9300 not at all smooth? :/

Good morning.
Ive been using my i9300 for about two months now. Im a former iPhone 4 user. I have noticed that the i9300 despite the fact that it has quad-core and 1GB RAM, is not at all smooth :/ I always get lag in the Homescreen and in the settings etc etc. I've tried like 20 ROMS or so :/ am i doing something wrong here? E.g. scrolling between homepages can get laggy! That wasnt supposed to happen right?\
Im currently at MIUI 2.9.14 ROM. Maybe im doing something wrong when i flash a new ROM?
What are the steps?
I delete the whole internalSD, i perform a data/factory reset via CWM, i delete cache and Dalvik Cache. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Yeah try that combo. Wanam or Omega Jelly Bean XXDLI8 leaks are very smooth.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
there are plenty of custom roms out there,
most of the JB leaks are much smoother than the ICS roms i have been using.( i am sure there are ICs roms that are smooth as well , just that i have not tested before. )
currently on Omega v23 and happy with it, no lags. you may just have to spend some time experimenting which one is to your preference.
Sir, I suggest you try out Omega ROM (ICS or JB) doesn't really matter, cause Omega is really really stable. I'm not prompting whatsoever because I'm on MIUI 2.9.14 too with hardcore speed mod kernel and it is perfectly great.
One advice, try not flashing so many ROMs at one go because it might cause system error such as connectivity to wifi or packet data. Stick to one you really like.
Edit: Do a full wipe, flash back stock firmware on PC Odin and root again to remove any bad 'history' and the lag too.
Hope I did manage to help!
Great day

If you want a rapid ICS rom then use Foxhound 1.4.3, it is quite simply the best ICS rom there is, and believe me i've tried them all.
Couple it with Galaxsih kernel @normal and apex launcher not much comes close to it.
As for Jelly bean, take your pick but just know that there are no final builds as of yet and all of them are leaks, meaning that kernel support is limited.
Thanks everyone ive never flashed back to stock before i used custom rom and i think that May be it like one of you suggested. About that miui rom and hardcore speed mod. It works on any MIUI rom or only on specific ones? If it does work on every miui where can i find it? I really like miui
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
You are welcome mate hmm what do you mean?? I'm using hardcore speed mod on my MIUI rom and I don't experience any lag (Provided you use apex launcher PRO too) I even have great battery life (8 hrs of hardcore using; with wifi or packet data On). You can definitely flash speedmod on your MIUI 2.9.14 and you will know what I mean.
Omega ICS on the other hand, is really stable and having that 'stock-ish' feel. But on MIUI, you know we rule the game.
Edit: If you wanna try out Omega, do a full wipe, flash back stock firmware (It will unroot device) then root again then try out Omega. It is really your decision.
But again, you know who rule the game with MIUI. Haha.
Great day ahead.

To get rid of the memory leak, go to ES Explorer, give it root and write permissions (in its options), then go to system/bin/ and delete kiesexe. You won't be able to use Kies anymore, but it'll kill the leak because it's caused by that process.
you should use the stock TW without scrolling wallpaper mod =p
I just prefer you to flash DLI18 stock JB from sammobile, wipe everything before flash, and I would prefer you to change animation scale and duration scale from 1 to 0.5,

Just a suggestion.... If you really like MIUI, but want a smoother and more stable ROM, why don't you flash the latest CM10 build, and then install MiHome Launcher? MiHome Launcher is the default launcher used in MIUI and it comes with an optional MIUI lockscreen as well. Once both are installed, it's virtually indistinguishable from a full MIUI ROM. Plus, it'll have the speed and smoothness of Jelly Bean with the stability of CyanogenMod (or as stable as a pre-release build can be).
Anyway, it was just a thought. Good luck to ya'!

Can you use semi-transparency for dialogs and other pop-up stuffs?
It looks cool when I try it for some drawables but then I don't know if using it too much might slow down the ROM and I'm not an experienced tweaker.
Personally, I prefer a good-looking ROM to a fast bareboned ROM as long as it is usable (I'm not into gaming).
