[Q] ICS Passion Questions - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a couple of questions regarding the ROM. First would be the CPU governor, I want to know which one is the best for the latest update, which is V13 RC1. I'm currently using conservative.
The second question is, how can I undervolt for maximum battery life? I've seen various people talk about this on other threads, but I don't know how to do it. Is there a tutorial for this?
Third and last question is, are there any other kernals which I can use instead of the kernal that originally comes with the ROM for maximum battery life? I'm looking for battery life, but that doesn't mean I want to completely get rid of performance.
Thanks again.

Have you tried letting your phone die fully then letting it charge to 100% because I know my until I did that my phone was only charging to 83%

Yes I did that already and have gotten positive results.

For the kernel I know passion is based off of CM9, so you could try a CM9 Kernel, but ICS is fairly new and the best governor that I have found is lulzactive and it is included in the stock passion v13 kernel.
There is an app allows you to edit the governor settings for lulzactive, I'm not sure how well it works because I haven't tried it out yet

is there a thread in which I can read about lulzactive?

I am too new of a member to post urls, but all I did was google lulzactive and I found the devs website

Here's a post that describes and explains different governors.
And here is what the dev has to say about the lulzactive governor.

If you're having trouble with your battery not charging fully, then sometimes you just have to replace it. I had that problem with my old Blackberry. Try to avoid charging it before the battery runs low(under 20%), and also avoid unplugging it before it hits 100%. Those are just a few tips on how to improve battery health and performance.
As for managing the CPU, I kept mine on ONDEMAND and I get good performance and all day battery life.

Thanks guy!

I think 1.2 GHz as a max should be good enough. As for governors, try conservative, although smartass will probably give you a good blend of performance/battery.
Whatever you do though, don't put the min as 100 MHz.
Thanks but I'm currently using 100 as minimum.
What's the issue of it?

100 and 200 use the same amount of power, hence same battery life with better performance. You don't even need to overclock, just undervolt all -25.
Using stock settings will give you both battery and smoothness on the rom.

[Q] Battery Draining

How to extended the battery life time and minimize it's draining during your daily usage of the SGS2 ?
Also is. Over clocking. Increases the battery draining ?
To extend your battery life, stop using your phone and/or decrease the screen brightness when using it.
Overclocking will probably increase the battery drain if your phone is using the overclocked frequencies.
To increase your battery life turn your phone off every time you are not using it, turn it on when you want to use it, that will get you good battery life.
Honestly search this forum there are a handful of threads that give guides and tutorials on how to maintain battery life not that difficult to search my friend.

Use it as a paperweight and that should be good enough..Or just keep having the charger in it while you are at home
anyway lame jokes aside. get yourself a decent kernel. in your case speedmod. set the governor of your choice and let the magic begin......seriously for you that kernel should be fine. just do not get to excited when the magic begins and you start kissing your phone though just do not tell us here
Hope that helps mate

To be honest you don't need to use any of those type of application you are better off just removing them and leaving the kernel on complete stock.

Governors are for scaling cpu as you just said. As Nikz said if you are using speedmod no point using any cpu apps as the kernel does all the work for you

[Q] AOKP kernels which has the best battery for you?

I am running AOKP and before the stocks kernels battery life was not too good now I am running NEAK with AOKP 5-1 and I wanted to know which has better battery life. Siyah was amazing for me on GB with UnNamed.
EDIT: I tested Siyah for a few days it was pretty bad even with underclocking 200 - 800 or 1000 and with undervolt. Sticking with NEAK again just wanted to know if NOOP + ONDEMAND would be better or NOOP + LAZY.

Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
Not just that every phone is unique, it's that every user has a unique setup with different app usage pattern. Different apps behave differently and consume power differently; therefore, my setup may require very different kernel setups to get extended battery life than yours might. As he said above my post, your the best judge of what works for your setup, try them all and see what works for you.

In N.E.A.K Options inside Recovery, you can enable two additional governors, as well as put Lionheart tweaks on the Conservative governor.
I find Lazy governor works well for me, but I'm still switching around. NEAK definitely gives me better performance, but seems to give me less battery life. More testing to perform!

i've been using siyah...i get a lot of lockups with neak..but i think its because i'm not using neak correctly.
in the options is it better to have all governors enabled (conservative, lionheart, lazy)? also i hear for cpu that ondemand with bfq is preferred.
also does anyone have sched_mc and ext4 boost checked?
May you please post your i/o schedulers, governor, the way you charge it, and other essential info?

I had the similar problems (random reboots, lockups) with neak (AOKP), while running great on siyah / CM9 kernels. not sure what's caused it - was too lazy to figure out, reverted to siyah.

I've been running Siyah for awhile now and get 16-17hrs on battery with 3hrs screen on, but just flashed Neak tonight, I'll report back with my findings

Btw, these are the settings I'm using, and so for today (6+ hrs) I've had zero problems. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23139337#post23139337
I had Siyah and battery life was not that great. I would leave the phone idle over night (5-6hrs) and it would go down about 20-30 percent. On the other hand with this new Neak kernel it only went down 1 percent. I can def see an improvement in battery life.

[Q] Battery Life with custom ROMs

I think stock kernal is probably your best bet for battery life...
Hi everyone!
1st post on xda, but I'm new in android world!
Anyway, I'm using Omega ROM v27.2 (JB)/stock kernel and I experienced some battery drain issues. After getting BBS, I didn't able to point out what was the cause.
After many readings, I found a possible solution: in advanced WiFi settings, they advised to disable "Keep WiFi on during sleep". By default it's set on "always". They advise to set it to "never" but I prefer set it to "only when plugged in". I think it's more logical!
I don't know yet if it's efficient but I'm trying this and I'll come back later to tell you.

you could use phenomenal kernel for better battery life. it is better than stock kernel in terms of battery life but you need to check compatibility with the custom rom you choose
Foxhound Essential .2 with latest siyah kernel
Best Battery life I ever tried - I've used Foxhound, Criskelo, and Omega JB roms but the Foxhound Essential is the fastest, ram free (430mb), best battery life performance around (8hours extensive use with mobile date turned on). Try it its great! Thanks

I flashed Phenomenal Extreme kernel yesterday but to test it properly I have to wait for Monday when I'll be at work.
I'm not a fanatic of battery life, I just want to find the right mix between performance & battery life. For now, I found the phenom extreme not enough smooth, I'll probably change it for the medium one in few days.

My best results with battery life has been with Phenomenal Extreme and VikingROM. I got about 6 hours screentime with wifi, sync, and lots of gaming. Though i think you can make almost any rom or kernel last about 5-6 hours screentime if you check your running processes and apps running in the backround.
I hv tried lots of roms
Psycho rom XXDLJ1 v 0.0.1 is one of the best
it gives u maximum performance and an amazing battary life
Though you can flash different ROMS and kernels to experiment with battery performance, most reputable ROMS like AOKP or CM10 Wong yield much difference. Too many other variables. I've heard Trinity kernel is a good one, but I just got an extended battery. I found it to be the most sure way of extending battery life.

[Q] Could anyone please help me out with overclocking?

I've already flashed two kernels in hopes of overclocking my Note 1. On one, it hung at the Samsung screen and on the other it booted (after doing something with each app) but kept showing force close messages that I couldn't close.
I really want to overclock my phone because it freezes a lot.
Also, I haven't had any luck with radios, either. These flash okay, but with dramatically slower speeds. Right now, I get on avg. 10 mpbs, but I've seen people with upwards of 50.
How could I do these things? Thanks.

I'm running Blackstar XI with AT&T. And I've only tried flashing overclock kernels, with no success. SetCPU lets me underclock, but the current kernel doesn't let me OC.
Kind of the same with the radios. I've only tried flashing them, with no faster speeds.
Are there other methods then these ways?

I'm not saying don't over clock I just don't cause of battery drain ...... You can just watch CPU temperature and be careful ...maybe don't over clock to max just a little bit like 1600 or something

The only kernel capable of over clocking right now is ptmr3s kernel but I believe it only works with that hong Kong firmware. There are older kernels that can over clock but won't work with the latest cm merges. Like Shane said don't max out most notes can't handle it I never go higher then 1792. Over clocking is great but I don't think we will see a over clock kernel any time soon maybe look into scripts and tweaks.

Under clocking does not reduce performance. Mediocre gaming does not need 1.5ghz if you UC to 1.2/1.1 your performance will remain the same... Out of the extra hour of battery life that doesn't reduce performance its kind of a no brainer. Anyways stay on topic.
