actually i have some folder "videos" in /data which i am not able to select.. any guidance on selecting it...
Cheers!!!
You might check to see if the folder starts with a period. MX Player "hides" files and folders that have a period in front, unless told not to in Settings.

Just a guess, it might be an os problem. In that case, hold tight for cm

MX video player should be able to see your data folder. You may want to check your permissions.
Any reason why you don't just move the folder?

Hello,
I have similar problem posted in another forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23725226&postcount=20
Did not solve this so far!
Cheers
u need to make ur data folder read for all types of users.
if u have a file browser such as es file explorer or root explorer you can change permissions, make sure to check all the read checkboxes and apply the changes.
mx video player should detect that folder and all subfolders...
Something I just noticed. If the videos you want to play are associated with another app, MX Player will not list them for playing.
Clear any associations you may have applied to other video playing apps.
Android 11 don't allow apps to access data folder that's the issue. The scan works in older devices give a solution to access that folder in android 11 and the problem will be solved

I have mattc Leo 1.5 installed on my HD2. I also downloaded Estrongs File Explorer and is able to mount samba directories in LAN. Now, now the problem is that when I try to open an video (.avi, .rmvb) in the samba directory, it opens it with the Android default video player, which doesn't play these files.
I was trying to go to Setting -> Application and find 'Video' application to clear the default, but I don't know which application to clear default, and I don't see any video player related application anyway.
I was hoping that I can default open .avi and other video files with rockplayer, can someone please help me?
Thanks so much for your time
Edit:
I think I give up on ES File Player for playing video on samba , I saw something similar from nexus one forum about mounting samba as local directory, and then rockplayer can brower and play. does anyone know if it is possible for mattc Leo 1.5 build

Don't think it's possible yet. I also have the same problem as you (also with ES File Explorer). I googled making rockplayer the default player, but the search results weren't helpful or said it couldn't be done.
Try clearing the default of "Gallery - HTC Corporation".

Base on this thread from ES File Explorer forum, I believe you are right

Now, the question is, does anyone know any other ways to mount samba and play the media file with desired media player such as rockplayer?
Thanks!

Total shot in the dark here as I dont have rockplayer yet and my android build has just took a s**t,,,, but...
Does rockplayer have some sort of playlist editor? is there a paste option in the playlist editor?
Copy while browsing in ES -> paste into the playlist editor???
Probably a really stupid idea but its an idea lol
I also use the combination ES and rockplayer. Its a nasty work around but i do as follows: start downloading the file with ES. Go to rockplayer and start playing the file. Its works quite well and no waiting. Hope this helps until a better app or update comes along.

You can use CifsManager
http://208.100.42.21/showthread.php?t=756158
It mounts Windows shares as local mount points.
Works like a dream with Rockplayer
SGS 2.2.1 with speedmod cifs tweak enabled working to mount cifs partition but... only the default player can show video\mp3... rockplayer no :| Any idea?
Chooo
I know a workaround.
-Set your preferred player as a default (menu -> setting -> application -> <you player>).
-Browse your samba directory using es explorer.
-Tap & hold the video file.
-Select Open As Video.
It automatically plays the video using my 3rd party media player.
(I didn't try with a music file).
Use the cupcake version of ES file explorer and it will ask you how to finish the action

Hi all,
I'm the new with this 4rum. yesterday, i upgrade my phone with [ROM] LGP500 AmberHome V1.1.
This rom 's perfect & work like a charm (thanks to corwin42). but for a while, i found that my music player & also video player does not work. Although i have many music & video files in my sdcard. But whenever i open music or video player, they do not find anything.
I searched our 4fum, but found no clue. please help me solve this issue.
Do i have to reinstall music & video player? Where i can find the apk file??? And how can i install, via adb? i guess ? I used root explorer to copy music & video apk file from GT540, and try to paste in P500 system/app via root explorer. But i got "install error"
Maybe stagefright is enabled. Try disabling it via the tweak script. You can download the script from the thread in the development forum.
I 've just tried the script, but nothing solve. The same thing happen with music & video player.
please help me ...
try another music player
Okay, try this (for a little troubleshooting): Open your file manager and go to the directory where you have your files. Try playing one of them. If it plays, I think your player can't find your music for some reason. If it doesn't, I bet it's stagefright.
By the way, after you disabled sf from the script, did you restart your phone?
after try the script , i restarted...
the music player can play the file, but in the screen it show no thing... i mean no album art, no artist, no song's name ... although my files have full information and show normally before i do upgrade. it's so strange...
Thanks for your quick reply
edit: btw, i do not see the music.odex in system/app folder? is it normal ?
Strange. I have this problem for only some of my files. Do videos play? Do the same thing just like the music.
the same thing happen. When i use file manager to open, it open & play as normal. But when i open video player, it say "no video"
update: i installed another music & video player. The same thing happen. They say no file in sdcard.
I'm not sure and this is just a guess, but I think something may have went wrong with the partitioning process. Do you have a backup of your files on the memory card?
yes i have, so i will try to re - partion ?
Yes, try to repartition. Then restore your backup to your memory card. Make sure you copy your files to the FAT partition, and not the ext one
update:
Things were solved. I do not know exactly to explain. When I mount the sdcard, I noticed that there's a file which was named ".nomedia". I did not know where it come from. Just delete & things were solved. I do not have to re - partion, now my music & video player work like a charm !
Any ideas abt the file".nomedia" ????
anyone knows how can I restore de stock alarm widget??
Hey Guys,
My English is not perfect, sorry about that. I think you could help me to solve this problem.
I have cyanogen 6 the final version on my mini pro and my media apps (like gallery 3d, or MIUI music) can't find any pictures or music from sd card. But these files are in the sd card - I can open it from my computer or Es File Explorer. One gallery app said that it can't find any photos from sd, because I have to get access for it, or something like that. I think this is because of the superuser app.
Thanks for the answers.
I had the same issue initially. A reinstall of the ROM fixed it though.
I tried this. First Gallery 3d was ok, but laiter it started showing ,,there are no items in your collection. I think the files in sd card are protected or something like that. But thank you Sideromelane for your trying to help. Any more idea?
Hey check if you have a file/folder named 'nomedia.' in your sd card. If yes delete it.
Worked for me.
Sent from my U20i using Tapatalk
Make sure you look for it with your PC, as it's a hidden android file and some android explorers won't show it, it's a file called .nomedia
check whether its excluded from media scan...
Yeah! I found the file with name .nomedia and deleted it. Now it works perfect!
Thank you guys for your help!
Now that we are able to use the 11+ Gb of internal storage (assuming you are rooted) are there any media players (e.g., mp3 and/or mp4) that can view data or data/media?
Media files can be seen/played via Root Explorer or ES File Explorer (although it's very kludgy) but I have not been able to find any player capable of accessing this storage area.
I'm pretty sure that you can specify which directory to use with MX Player

Does it ever ask to download the codecs? It never asks to me download anything. I tried to play with the codecs and without them and I noticed no difference. However the player supports HW for h.264 codec only in both cases.
p.s. PowerAMP is a one of the best audio players. And it can access /mnt/* including "internal" linked to your internal storage.
I must have missed something here.
How exactly can we access the 11 gigs of storage on the nook?
Can someone point me to the thread that explains that process?

Nope, doesn't work (neither MXVideo Player or Poweramp) at least does not work for me. I placed an MP4 and a MP3 in some subfolders in the data directory (which shows 11.6 Gb free). I was able to make data/media/vids and data/media/auds using Root Explorer - I can also see the files in ES File Explorer (and play them by clicking on either one and selecting the app to use.
But I cannot get any music or video player to find the file - is there some simple fix? And maybe I don't understand the meaning of "/mnt/* including "internal" linked to your internal storage" .

That is because MXPlayer does not run as root, and thus cannot list the /data directory. (Which is "--x" for anyone but root)
You have to ensure that the permissions on your media directory are setup so that MXPlayer can actually perform a directory listing.

Just took a quick look at data/media and in Root Explorer, the permissions are all checked - that is for read, write and execute and the owner is shown as root.
Ah, Success
Changed the permissions of the /data directory to allow "others" to read and write and I can now play my media. Thanks to all for the help - that's why I absolutely love this forum!

No command - using Root Explorer. First, I set /data from Read Only to Read Write. If you long press on either a file or folder you see nine "boxes" . Three down read Owner, Group and Others and three across are Read, Write and Execute. All i did was to set Others, i.e., check the box, for Read, Write and Execute. I then reset /data to be Read Only. Of course, you need to be rooted.
I think by setting Others to Read, Write and Execute (rwx) it allows media players to access the file.

Yeah, trying to enter them manually. I tried the script method, but the mkdir command didn't work for me either. It doesn't appear I'm allowed to do anything in ADB. Am I missing something? Is this even necessary? Someone else said they just changed permissions in Root Explorer. It's confusing. All I want is for non-B&N apps to recognize content I store in the large internal storage space, specifically music.
NT's rooted, too.

You don't have to type them. Just replace the file after backing it up. Set the same permissions as the the original.

Okay, rebooting now. I'm confused about what I just did, though. What was the purpose of the usrdata folder I created?
I don't really know if this worked. I can choose any folder on my Nook, from within MX Player, but it doesn't appear to be scanning in the following location: /media/My Files/Videos. No .avi files that are within that, or in its subfolders, show up in MX Player. It sees other .avi files, like one in /system/media/videos.
Is there something else I need to do?
Why are there so many "media" folders on this thing, and which one should I be putting things into? there's one under /. There's one under /mnt, although they appear to be the same location, as the contain the same files. There's one under /system. And, of course, I've got one on my SD Card.
If anyone can clear up any or all of these questions, I'd be eternally grateful. Well, at least, grateful for a long time... like a few weeks, at least.

The script is linked to /mnt/internal and makes it possible to use the internal storage after each reboot keeping all of the permissions properly set.
WARNING: you need root for this!
A common problem with ICS and JB Stock as well as ROMs is that the music isn't appearing in the music player.
This is caused due to presence of a file ".nomedia" in your music player folders.
Up until now, you either had to use inbuilt music player ES File Explorer or search and delete all .nomedia files and hope that you get lucky.
But searching your entire phone AND sdcard can take hours, especially if you've got a big (16/32 GB) sd-card.
Also, thousands of .nomedia files could turn up if you've got lots of media files (hello manga addicts ). I have Mango installed and had nearly 3 GB of manga on my phone (), thus the search (using SolidExplorer) hadn't finished even after 3 hours.
Well, don't worry!
I've got the quickest solution to your problem:
Connect phone to computer via USB cable, or better yet use sd-card reader to directly connect the sd-card.
Use your computer to search and delete all ".nomedia" files. It's much faster .
Re-mount sd-card on your phone.
Now use Root Explorer or any other file explorer with root access.
navigate to <root directory>/data/
delete the ".nomedia" file present over there.
Enjoy your music!
Press the THANKS button, I need it.
The problem isn't quite so simple. I don't have have .nomedia files anywhere in my music folders, and yet it doesn't scan them.
I too dont have .nomedia file anywhere ! I think the problem is in libs ?
Try this.
If you have the patience, install mixzing player. reboot your phone. then open mixzing first. go into folders, then the folder where you store your music, then wait. The names of the songs should change from filenames to the id3 information. Repeat for each folder, scrolling so that the info appears for each track; all while not actually playing anything. Now open your stock player, the tracks should have appeared. If they haven't, force stop the media scanner and try again.
Hit thanks if it helps !

Are you guys sure you checked the /data and /data/data files? Get your SD mounted on a pc and search for .nomedia files; include hidden files in your search.
Should work. Did for me AND a couple of my friends, all facing same problems and having different ROMs.
Just in case, tell me the names of the ROMs you people are using.
Will try to help.
Running a fresh install of PAC by nims11 and I have all my media visible. So no worries.
