Hi, as you can see I have a Galaxy s2 (Unrooted)
I have a problem where my phone is overheating, I know it gets hot when playing games, but it is doing the same thing even when locked without any apps open. The battery life has dramatically dropped from over a day to like 2 hours or less..
This may not be relevant to this problem but on Settings>Applications>Battery Usage: it comes up that the Dialer is using 43% and Google Services is 40%..
I hope someone has a fix for this problem. Really dont want to take it back to the shop..
Please Help!!!
Thanks Geo
Sounds like a rouge app keeping the CPU on load, even when "closed".

You can try to totally restore your phone. The question is: what have you done the day before the problem occurs?

I havent done anything unusual, havent downloaded any new apps that i know of.
I would make a backup of everything and do a factory reset, then restore apps and data step by step.

That's what iv done. Apart from backing up my contacts. Oww well.
All is good now iv done a factory reset. Not a clue what the problem was. Thanks for all your guys help.
As above post, if watchdog lite app doesn't show any rouge app, backup what you can and factory reset. Without installing any apps, check if you have the drain, only then instal each one by one and check.
Also two other apps I use for any diagnostics are ;

Slow with opening apps? Or slow user interface? It shouldn't be slow unless he has tonnes of apps.

Do not make him buy a new phone, this phone can be hella snappy actually!
Start by rooting your phone, you can easily find a tutorial just by searching the forum or via google.
My personal preference:
ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263292
Tweak: V6 SuperCharger Update 9 Beta 6.2.2 (tutorial here)
When installing the tweak, chose option 7 (agressive for 512HP)
APPS: Autostart (find it in market)), preventing useless apps to start, but you must have chose the apps manually.
Auto Memory Manager(find it in market), chose agressive and save the changes.
If he is new at these sort of stuff it could take some time to get it right but it's totally worth spending a day fixing it, he'll get a fast a snappy phone in long term.
Has he tried using the task manager to clear memory? It sounds like he downloaded an application that doesn't behave the way it should (memory/cpu hog). If clearing memory helps he has to find and uninstall the misbehaving app(s), i think there's an app called watchdog or something which monitors memory and cpu usage of all installed apps.
If that doesn't help, go i'd go for a reset. And before buying a new phone, give the custom roms a go because they do tend to increase performance quite a bit!
Thankyou for the quick replies everyone very helpful, he gets force closes on twitter and facebook all the time and also it just randomly shuts down aswell.

hi! regarding the suggested tweak? is there a detailed summary on how to use and instal this type of tweak? ive been reading the post and it seems it only has the overview.. thanks!
my advice is just forget all those mumbo jumbo tweak script. its already incorporated in cfroot kernel. its also doesnt make sense. all it does is doing the same thing. tweak vm dirty, tweak minfree, tweak stagefright and so on with the only difference is the fancy mancy name to make it looks yummy. people just install 2-3 script with different name when all it does is the same, and u actually already done it when using cfroot.
You might also want to avoid CM because it's unstable, just flash a stable custom rom that's still in active development. Make sure to get the latest cfroot kernel version.

They have, but UK operators are notoriously slow with pushing their own, branded versions. Especially on a midrange phone like the Ace. Avoid CM, especially Grif's as that has quite a few bugs. Some bugs in Cyanoace but not as many from my experience.
For starters, root your phone (or get a custom rom with integrated custom root), than download Titanium Backup from Market, and then uninstall all the unnecessary apps, also, delete app and internet cache. That all should make your phone better than new
I would agree about using cfroot.
Root phone with cfroot, titaniumbackup pro backup to sdcard, factory reset, download mode and flash latest stock rom from sammobile.com, root again and then restore apps only, only restore app+data for games.

Hi all,
I bought my neo v last week and it was brilliant for 4-5 days. But nowadays the phone response very slow. When I come out of any app the icons take time show up. Earlier it happened only when I came out of games like temple run. Now I've uninstalled it. Now even when I came out if messaging or camera, the icons take time to build.
Sometimes during a call incoming, it takes long time to show the contract details.
Should I do something to check if everything is fine with the phone. I really doubt it is the speed of a 1 ghz processor. Also the ram has only around 50 mb free even only music player is running.
I've installed avira, which I suspect could be the reason for this slowdown. Im unable to uninstall either.
Could someone please help me with these for a android new comer? Please let me know if u needed more details to help me out.
Sent from my MT11i using XDA
Avira could be the cause, is it installed from market?
Find it Play or the phone's manage application screen to uninstall.
If it is still that slow then try a master reset, anyway it is just 4-5 days' thing to lose.
use superchager v6

Thanks. Im thinking of the reset as the final option if nothing else works. Manage applications can't uninstall avira. It says uninstall faulted. Will try thru play and let you know soon.

Yes I've now uninstalled needless talk and power managers. It's getting better. But still I've only around 75 mb ram free. Most of the used part is occupied by system services and the software installed by se lyk liveware manager and data monitor. Any suggestion to stop them from unless needed? Anything other than rooting the device?

If you want to stop the bloatwares, you really need to root. You can freeze them or uninstall them permanently, just make some back ups. Have you tried resetting it? I mean factory settings reset? You should try it. Dont install battery savers, task killers and antivirus. It may slow down your phone and eats up your battery. Its better to restart your phone daily to free ram and reset it. If you have done everything but it still becomes slow, contact your phone dealer. You just might have yourself a factory defect phone
like what other said, root your phone or better yet, use custom roms. those bloatware is eating your ram thats why your phone is sluggish. as pandemic said use v6 supercharger to handle the memory.
It is a primitive sort of advice but if u don't want to root your phone...then try auto memory manager and set a parameter to autokill background processes...the processes u don't want to be killed can be whitelisted.
And try some kind of startup manager to prevent unwanted apps from launching by their own...but even then some of them would initialize bcoz of other events...that's where auto memory manager comes to play.
But last advice...its really a very good idea to root your phone to gain full control...service centres really don't care if you are rooted or not unless you unlock the bootloader.
Edit: am not sure if startup managers require root or not...it would have been stated in the app description.

Funny situation is going on there mate. If sync is enabled (background sync+gmail sync) and when u have a 'working' connection, it should trigger and sync on every task u do.
Possible multiple things u can try :
-Wipe gmail app
-Reinstall gmail or update or anything that changes ur current gmail version
- last case scenario, wipe whole phone and reinstall rom or diff firmware?
Thats all i can say since its a rare issue indeed

Ok, so lately I've been running the Nemus Launcher on my Atrix, and I've been having issues with the screen locking up, apps not working, and overall unresponsiveness. I used to run ADW Launcher EX with no problems, so I decided to go back to it to see if that would help. Well, after tweaking the icons how I wanted them to look in ADW, I stopped running Nemus and made ADW my default again. Then the trouble really began. My phone quit doing anything. Every time I would try to open an app, move one around on the screen, or anything else, the phone would either freeze up or restart. After messing with it for a few hours that night, I gave up and went to bed. The next day just got worse. All the phone did was repeatedly restart every time I tried to do anything to it. This continued into today (Sunday), so I decided the only way to fix it was to start over, so I did a factory reset. Now, I'm trying to reinstall all my apps, but I don't even have Google Play store on the phone anymore. It shows up as Android Market again, and it only shows some of my apps in the library. Its been reinstalling some of them automatically, but its trying to install them multiple times at once. This has been going on for 5 hours now. At this point, I don't know what to do to get my apps back on, so I can make phone back how it was with ADW running. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Shawn
If it was my phone, I'd boot into recovery, flash the full wipe zip, then flash a new Rom.

What You need to do is udpate android market to google play, so go to settings->applications->Manage applications-> choose "all' tab find market app then clear all data there and it should update automatically when you launch market. Good luck
Thanks fellas, I reset the Market and it updated to Playstore. Ok, so I've been playing with my phone and got it pretty much back how it was (minus some programs/apps I decided not to re-install) and it runs way faster now. BUT, NOW IT'S EATING MY BATTERY UP BAD! I only have a few widgets enabled and not much running in the background (nothing like before the reboot), but today it ate my battery almost completely up from 7:30am to 11:00am. The phone is getting really HOT too. WTF
