wrong CWM flashed what to do now...? !!!SOLVED!!! - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

!!! This Thread Has Been SOLVED !!!
Hi peeps...
Today, a friend tried to flash a new rom to my phone... He also tried to update my CWM recovery... now here is the ***** mistake - he only flashed my phone with Galaxy Gio CWM...
Now when I boot phone, it identifies itself as Galaxy Gio GT-S5660... I can boot into CWM recovery but can not flash Ace .zips from there (gives error 7) ... Checking the log tells me that the phone wants to now see Gio files not Ace...
What the hell do I do now...? Is it a return to stock via "Odin" then Root, CWM install again (correct one), CM7.* flash from there...?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I need my phone functional ASAP...
Cheers Family...

Pe"ACE"...

I'd go with the "stock with Odin, cf-root, custom ROM" approach..
(although I flashed Jusada's carbon Sunday straight from stock in my wife's ace)
From my Galaxy (ICS RC4.2)

Change the assert in the ace update scripts to match gio and error 7 might go away. Should be able to use this to update cwm.

Hey @SGA... Dude... Can you believe it... My beautiful Ace... ****in Gio bollocks...hehe
Anyway, tried changing asserts but still got error 7, so it was a quick visit to @sammobile & now all is good... Followed the odin route & now I'm back to where I know & love...
Just finished flashing "CyanogenMod 7.2.0 by FrozenAceTeam" rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1493143
Thought I'd get back to you before rebooting the phone... Really looking forward to the new CM9 @macraw/TeamCooper version... Twitter info is new version up tomorrow with camera fix & link for d/[email protected] update on twitter...
BTW, thanx for the info regarding @ketut kernel code (github), it helped shed a bit of light on a few points for me...
Anyway, thanx again bro...

Good to hear you're up and running again! Consider yourself lucky it was recovery from a similar phone, or that beautiful ace could have been much worse off, lol.
I've been anticipating the Alpha 3 download link for a long time, checking every 30min for a while it is still very much in Development by my opinion, a lot of visual artifact is apparent. OCing features are built in and seem to work well though... CPU and 3D performance is down
I was holding off on the new 7.2 to flash Alpha 3, but I'll give it a go before heading back to theMythICS Beta 2 (my fav).

flash back to CMW 4.0 and than to CWM 5.0 works for me

Yes dude u can, i flashed a new rom on class (boring teacher) cuz the rom i had was crashing and it worked right away, u just need to do the wipe data, factory reset, ... (the usual stuff to install a new rom), but u can do it if ur already on gingerbread... at least it worked for me for custom roms (if u wanna install a stockrom u need odin)
good luck!

dude... the most boring teacher i've ever met... and on my way to the class the rom started to malfunction so... i've got an excuse and i was bored xDDD
it worked pretty fine actually... cwm did all the work... i've installed the rom and do the 6 classics wipe/format and it was functional on the same class (oh and btw i was 30 min late to that class xD, so it works fast too, i think it was ready on like 15-20 minutes with just a bit of concentration -> i needed to look at the class too )
anyway... u may or may not need to do all the wipes, but at least in my experience it's always better if u do wipe all (i've installed like 9 roms this week cuz the stockrom 2.3.6 on my country was REEEALLY lame and slow... and if u don't wipe the new rom can function normally, but in my case i've got some bugs that were solved wiping)
so... good luck!
Ive wiped ashed and odin my phone a hole lot almost every day aeast 9 times since april 2011
But ive made an challenge with my brother that if i dont flash any rom in the next week then i wil get 50 bucks from him and i need to ve at stock unrooted so this week no fun for me

[Q] Hey guys! Need help with my SGA

Hey all I've been browsing the forum for a couple of days and decided to join so I can speak with you all ok so I've been pretty scared with all this android modding and rooting etc. because its more difficult than anything I have done before u.u I have already semi-bricked a Galaxy Mini recovered it, then hard bricked it by flashing the wrong recovery but anyways I got a SGA like three weeks ago and I am one of those guys who like to mod/flash everything and I don't like the idea of my Ace being Stock xD (I have a flashed xbox 360, modded wii, and jailbroken ps3 and have done jailbroken/unlocked iphones) anyway I wanted help on how to get started on all of this, my phone is currently:
Stock Rom Carrier: Claro
Froyo 2.2.1
And I want to install any of these:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341426
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461948
Can anyone guide me to accomplish this?
And perhaps I can learn from the one who helps me
PS: I have been reading on this forum for a whole week xD
P.S.: b4 I post this let me tell u that i have been reading xda forums for a whole year b4 joining
Now lets get back to work
So u r on FROYO huh ????to root on FROYO you can use SUPERONE CLICK ..they have a tutorial too ..next up why dont u upgrade to gingerbread ????then ull be able to flash CM7..just google "2.3.4 for Samsung galaxy ace androidadvices.com.. they have a good tutorial too ....then google" root Samsung galaxy ace 2.3.4" to root on gingerbread (after u have upgraded offcourse)...hit the thanks button if I helped ..

Wow! a whole year! well I couldn't resist and joined xD this forum seems to have an awesome community
Anyway I kinda knew about the superone click but umm if I root with that then I can go right ahead and install CWM and Custom Roms?
Install CWM4 or 5 for Galaxy Ace, you shouldn't need Root for this. You can find them on this Forum if you look. This will replace your stock recovery. Once this is done you place your ROM on the SD card, reboot into recovery and hit install from Zip then choose your new ROM. Simple as that.
If you need any more help let me know

Ok so I don't need root to install Custom Roms?
And I don't need to upgrade the FW to Gingerbread or anything because I've been reading a lot about this and I'm kinda confused?
-----Edit-----
Also don't I need to make a backup or anything? xD because I don't want to brick my Ace its the only phone I have right now.
U don't need root to install cwm 5 ..well I think u should upgrade your firmware to 2.3.xx because most of the roms for SGA are based on gingerbread .ie they need gingerbread basebands ...if u flash them on your FROYO phone u will BRICK your phone !!!!!
Btw I always got what I needed In xda by googleing so I never felt the need to join xda ..
Sent from my SGA rocking CM7.2 by vo-1 + all-in-one script
Sure you could make a back-up, it is always good to have just in case. You can't restore a stock ROM through recovery, you'll just get a boot loop, but there are other methods to restore your stock back-up. Froyo to Gingerbread is no problem, it is Gingerbread to Froyo that it becomes more complicated.
EDIT: But some ROM's do require you to be on 2.3.x so you could do an official update to Gingerbread to "ensure" everything goes smoothly.

Also what happens if I accidentaly flash a Custom Rom made for FROYO when my phone is on Gingerbread FW?
Sorry for all these questions
Well, they don't say. Why not be safe and flash a stock 2.3.x ROM with ODIN. Better to be safe then sorry right?! Are you familiar with ODIN?
Yes I have used ODIN in the past before but only with the One Package option.
-----Edit-----
And if I where to flash that stock firmware which one should I use European?
Yup, that is what you'll be doing. I wrote a little tutorial on it a while ago, the link is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408974&highlight=2+3+6+update

[Q] Root and custom rom for S5830

Alright this is my first post here..
I am a complete newbie as far android rooting and custom rom installation is concerned. I have been using Samsung galaxy ace's stock installation unrooted phone for about 6 months...after installing a few apps the phone has become sluggish..and battery drains out more quickly I can do a factory reset
but its not practical reinstalling apps again and again . I figured out custom rom is the way to go to unlock the potential of the phone but the chances of bricking my phone has stopped from taking the plunge.
I haven't yet found a recent how to root and install custom rom post for the galaxy ace S5830 ,the ones that are available are 8 -9 months old I believe a lot has changed since then
My current rom is gingerbread DDKQ6
In short this is what I want
1) Back-up the entire factory os( ie samsung touchwiz etc)..incase I screw up I can always go back.
2) root the phone
3) Install a stable and secure rom gingerbread or ics (even better) which is fast and doesn't lag after installing a few apps. without sacrificing any original features of the phone apart from touchwiz
4) a rom which has all google apps running (gmail, android market, placess, navigation ,search, youtube etc).. i noted the current ics roms for galaxy ace don't have the camera working.
Pls help.

Chances of bricking is very less. You can read the stickies in development section. All info given there. Nothing much has changed. So you can use the old posts without worry.
as you new better start with a stock custom Rom . try stocklite 6 or adrenaline Rom. you Will know what you were missing.

For flashing a rom, ALWAYS delete Dalvic cache, cache and factory reset. Remember those 3 and you can flash any rom you want. Delete these before installing the rom, then flash.
Some roms don't require you to delete one of those, but always do just for safety measures and to avoid future problems.
How do i update superuser app?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
As other users told you you can follow other guides about galaxy ace (even 11 month old, not so much have changed (for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145).
Just two advices if it's your firs experience with ROMs and root (that I learned here, and "save" my smartphone til now! )
1) To avoid lag and memory limits you should try link2sd or a2sd when yo'ull root (google for them)
2) NEVER use ROM Manager (or the CWM apk pre-installed in some ROMs) to backup your phone/intall ROMs/MOD/etc (NEVER USE IT!) because it'll brick your Ace!
Hope have helped you... Good Luck

Download Clockworkmod recovery from dev section
Install it by going to recovery-apply update then choose the sip file
Reboot
Download AOSP rom

wipe everything
install zip from SD
choose AOSP rom ok?

Back up with cwm after rooting and after installing cwm. Still, the best way to return to stock is Samfirmware and flashing through Odin (u need a PC and the ace's controllers).
It's all in the forums, just don't rush to flashing stuff without an exit plan.

[Q] New to this phone

I just bought a used galaxy s2 I love the phone already. I had the samsung infuse before, and I loved the cm7 nightly builds on that phone, but had to upgrade You all know how that is haha.... I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505172 to root and then had to unlock seeing as I am on rogers.... First thing I have to say is that every time I boot up I see the triangle with the ! in it so I might have done the wrong one? It said before i had the i9000m btw. And I installed CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4 as the kernel
Another thing I might as is that when I tried to open odin 1.85, it would say Odin.ini with a bunch of sqaures, i press ok and it closes.... So i just used 1.83.
Last thing is who do I go into cwm recovery, and I want to go on a cyanogen mod 7 or 9.... Should I try cm9? And how would I do that?
THANKS!
Hope everyone here is more helpful than on the infuse sometimes
the yellow triangle is always there when you boot it cause you rooted it.. but gladly, you can remove it with a usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udzMQ_dsci4) or without usb jig (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOXNf_kH-iA)
I highly suggest skipping CM9 and giving Resurrection Remix a try. Also learn to live with the yellow triangle and forget the CF kernels. I use Siyah kernel and there are other alternatives just as good.
I've tried almost every rom and kernal for S2 and I truly believe RR and Siyah is the best performing combo of them all.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks I will trythat now, but how do I do that? I sent you a message
If you don't have a usb jig to reset the flash counter and remove the triangle on boot up try chainfire's TriangleAway app either found on the play store(paid) or in his thread here on xda(free). Make sure you are running an ICS rom.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Sorry I meant how do I do the siyah and rr thing but thanks
I received your message. All the info you will need is right here on XDA already. When you rooted your phone you probably installed CWM recovery (press home, volume up and power buttons to boot into it). Assuming you have that you can just follow the steps in the RR thread to install. It already comes with Siyah Kernel so you can simply flash the latest version to keep it updated. I used odin to flash a modem firmware for Canadian networks but that's optional since the stock base band in rr worked fine.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
So that means all I do is flash rr from cwm and clear that bs stuff and I'm good to go?
Sent from my GT-I9100M using xda premium
Its simple as that Just follow the extended steps in the faq of the rr thread and remember to make backups in cwm in case you make mistakes and need to try again.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
if u need to do a factory reset/full wipe in the process of intalling the new rom
all apps and data will be deleted
so its convenient to make backup important things like your apps, sms, or call log
not compusory though
backup apps using Titanium backup, there are free and paid version

Stick with GB. CM9 AOSP AOKP and Samsung ICS roms will give you a headache, poor performance and poor battery life. My two cents.
Simply amazing... It has such a good look and feel... But just one thing.... Is there any way to get working mms in Canada?

in my opinon this definetly isnt the case. ive been running ics roms for months now and ive barley had any problems at all, i prefer it to gingerbread, performance is good, and smooth. sensation ics rom is a nice one

[Q] unable to install custom rom (samsung gt-i9100)

hi everyone.i am new on this rooting and all of this stuff.i am currently owning samsung gt-i9100.it came with 2.3.3 android version.then i did this exactly 1) updated my firmware via odin.now it has android version 4.0.3,kernel version [email protected]#3,build number iml74k.xxplq. 2) then i rooted my phone.now i have cwm manager installed on my phone.it says current kernel: cf-root5.4. earlier it says that it is only compatible to version 5.5 or above and some features might get blocked.as i dnt have much knowledge in this field.so i ignored this message and carried on with my urge to install custom rom(toget rid of touchwiz).i tried to install cynogenmod7 rom(stable).everything worked right but on reboot it get stuck on that samsung galaxy logo.and i have to again restore my backup.please help me out with this.thanx in advance
Try from recovery mode using cwm.zip and put the new rom in the sd card. Delete first data, cache, dalvik cache and such luke guides say.

dude!!
you tried to install CM7 on ICS!! Don't think this is possible... (e.g. your current predicament)
you should try CM9, custom ICS -=or=- MIUI v4 etc.
I'm currently using CM7 ^^ just installed today - forgot how smooth it is... still it's not MIUI - but it's good for a holiday
same was the case with Resurrection ICS ROM v2.0.it didnt work either.will do anything to make it work.let me try this .will tell u then.thanx a lot sir
