[Q] Android driver question. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I'm new to the forums, but I'm not so new at rooting and custom ROMs.
My question is: Are Android drivers (the ones on the phones themselves) backwards compatible? I was planning on porting Froyo to the Nexus S (Sprint CDMA), would that be possible without specific Froyo drivers? Would the Gingerbread drivers work just as well?
Thanks!

[Q] Flashtool or equiv for upgrading X10 on a Mac?

Just wanted to ask a few Q's for a colleague who wants to pop his Android Modding Cherry.....
Is there any way to upgrade the X10 from Android 2.1 to Android 2.3 (officially) on the Mac OSX platform? And also, installing a custom recovery to allow him then to flash custom roms....
Most upgrade options seem to link to using Flashtool which is Windows based (and he would prefer not to have to dual boot to Windows by preference).....

Android 4 to which mobiles?

Is there any site that i can find out to which models can i official and unofficial install the new android 4.0.3 or newest?
A lot of thanks.
clockworkmod.com and under rom manager it will show you all roms for your phone. if your unrooted google it
I would say this is the best site for that. Just find your phone and see if it has been developed for it. 4.0 can't run on everything without a bit of tweaking on a phone by phone basis. The developers on here do that for you.
It is hard to unlock any android mobile phone to install it a rom that is unofficial and if it is easy BEFORE i installed the new unofficial rom is there a way to make a COMPLETE BACKUP of the android phone so anytime i want i can make a COMPLETE RESTORE to factory defaults with official android version.
A LOT OF THANKS FOR ALL.
cyanogenmod.com
Device compatible with CM9 are Android 4.0.3 IceCreamSandwich
To which sites i can see the OFFICIAL android 4.0.3 supported mobiles phones?
The samsung galaxy s plus i9001 does it support it?
And if don't where is the way to install an unofficial android 4.0.3 for samsung galaxy s plus i9001 phone?
Not as such...
I haven't found any comprhensive listing of ICS ROMS + supported devices.
Your best bet is to start from your device and find which ROM's (if any) are out for it. Some devices may never get support, some already have it, some are in between.
Much as I love Cyanogenmod, I can't get a functional CM9 (that is, ICS by Cyanogen) that will work on my Nexus S 4G. But I did find a list of ROM's for Nexus S 4G and by elimination found one that works flawlessly.
Be careful, follow steps closely, and RTFM first!

[Q] Rooting tools for S4 based GSIII

So this will officially kick off tomorrow. Will the existing tools for rooting the phones still apply for the Snapdragon based one or will new tools be needed?

[Q] S4/Tegra3?

Hi, noob here...
Looking to install Paranoid Android 4.1.2 on my htc one v. In the tutorial I was reading, it stated that the instructions would only work for one v international Tegra 3 version...
Not sure what this means, I just learned that there are 2 types, the Tegra3 and S4?
Does that mean if I have Qualcomm S4 I cannot use pa Rom?
Or do I need to find the pa Rom S4 version.
Further more, how can I determine wich version I have?
Thanks!

Porting Android 4.2.2 to Huawei U8652

I know that Benru89 has made a CM7 port for the Huawei U8650 (the aforementioned being thusly compatible with his ROM). I was wondering, given that there is already a compatible ROM in place, what methods would I need to port a different Android version, namely 4.2.2 onto this device?
Would this be a good method?
How does one move up from CM7 to CM10.1.2, essentially?
Porting a Rom from another phone isn't the hardest thing. In the first place you need a kernel that has the ability to boot on 4.2 this will need to be built from source. Also it would make your porting much easier if your phone already had some sort of 4.2 rom which you guy don't have. For my info what is the highest android version available for your phone at this moment.
