hi guys,
getting my new evo3d on wednesday. Just upgraded from my beloved hd2 which i had for 2 years. She was a beaut. This forum its members and developers were a pure godsend.
However, after seeing this phone on offer for £229 it felt wrong not to buy it. So hopefully you guys will help me get the most out of this new phone as i did out of my old.
cheers.
Indeed, mine should be arriving Thursday from Asda. The wife is getting my Desire.
Step one for me is to go into the clean room at work and apply my screen protector lol
Step two I guess is to charge and get sense setup how I like it
Welcome fellas
---Jay--- From the CM9 powered 3D
howdy mr paul. it was too good a deal to turn down, eh?
regarding the protector i always had murders applying my old ones. I found the best way was in a steamy bathroom clean the screen as best as possible with the cloth and then blow on the screen to remove any residual dirt/dust fragments whilst laying the protector on.
You are right about sense. the amount of times i had to redo it with all the wonderful roms on my old phone.
edit - thanks jay.
Welcome aboard indeed. Coming from those phones you should find everything fairly easy here. Solid guides in the dev roll up sticky to get started.

you should look up a company called ghost armor
polyurethane screen protector, so thin you don't even know it's there.
if you know anything about polyurethane, it's tensile strength, and other applications it is used for... you will see why it is by far the best form of screen protector out there.
thanks sarge.
@cobraboy85 that ghost armour is that the same stuff as the zagg invisible shield? I tried that on my hd2 but i could not fit it properly. If it is more a case and a screen protector then it sounds great.

I've use 2 brands all the time and have no complaints.
First is the more durable skinomi one I used on my EVO4G. http://www.skinomi.com/
That thing could take a serious beating and you can't beat the warranty.
The next is what I have on my phone right now and thats the SGP Steinheil screen protector.
http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/htc.html
The later was easier to install and a little thinner btw.
I used to use screen protectors religiously for a couple of years but never used one on my Evo 4G nor my 3D. Have never had a scratch on the screen. The screen protectors always seemed to take away from the feel of the phone for me. Just my 2cents, try it without one.
I use the matte ones that a finger-print resistant. However; I just recently removed it because I ordered 4 new ones, and I'm liking the way my screen looks without it. Much nicer.
I always use Martin Fields screen protectors, always found them to be fantastic.
Yes the Asda deal is bloody great!
Im also coming over from a HD2 because of the ASDA deal.
I love the HD2 and how that has evolved over the last 18 months, just hope the EVO 3D will be just as great an investment.
Hopefully with the price drop of the EVO 3D GSM and the flood of new owners, development will really start to boom, who knows may even surpass the CDMA forum
Looks like there are some great devs producing some fantastic ROMS already. In addition, we have ICS potentially on the horizon!!
Happy Days ahead one hopes
Yea EVO 3D us cool phone, I love it, had it for 4 months...
I bought 2 screen protectors for 40$.
I took them off week later.
EVOs screen is not easy to scratch so I don't see reason to put protection on it.
I'm thinkin to get otterbox case, it looks cool

no it is not a case, it is a thin film that is applied to your screen. look into it, promise you... best screen protector out there.

You spent $40 on 2 screen protectors? I got 4 glare-resistant, fingerprint-resist, matte screen protectors for $4 with free shipping on eBay. Get your money back, or call the police, because you were robbed.

So, I bought this slide screen protector last week for two dollars from ebay and I thought it was too good to be true but they are actually great, here is the link if you want it:http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-XtremeGUARD-HTC-MYTOUCH-SLIDE-3G-Screen-Protector-/230487883667?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item35aa25ff93#ht_2384wt_1137 I cant even tell I have it on! make sure you follow the directions!!
i was going to make this same thread whenever i bought mine lol, these screen protectors are perfect, and easy to do, i literally used one hand to do it(i recently got a bad cut on my other hand)
2 dollars is to cheap not to try just bought one now im excited hopefully will work good already got a little scratch on the side of my screen
Ordered one. Thanks!

For sure ordered one. $2 is worth it no matter what. thanks for the post.
Sweet! I've been waiting for BSE to come out with theirs but so much for that. Thanks for sharing.
are these the stupid protectors that tell you to install them with water? I ordered a set of 3 protectors off amazon for 2 bucks because they were the only ones available when the phone first came out and they all ended up in the trash within two days. I have ordered cheap protectors for my G1 and you just have to clean the screen and put the protectors on and it comes out perfect. Also I notice a lot of the new protectors are made of some rubbery stretchy material and not plastic like the ones I am use to.
Why not read the description and FAQ's in the link before you make a judgment. If you don't like it, return for a refund. Yes you use A LITTLE soapy water but as long as you don't drown your slide you should be good. After two weeks, this thing is still looking new .
Just ordered, hope its as good as you say =P
So far so good. There appears to be some slight distortion, I hope that it will clear up as the moisture evaporates and the protector adheres to the screen. Not sure if it is just a mental thing, but screen actually seems to be a bit more precise with this rather than the regular screen protector.

Mine came in today and I usually hate putting these things on but it was pretty painless. Im waiting for all the moisture to dry though. Ill have a better review of it in a few days.
Just wanted to update. The distortion cleared up within a few hours. Now that the bubbles are gone (took a couple days) it is crystal clear. Overall, I am very impressed. It was $2 well spent.

Got mine in today. Everything looked cool until I put it on. That's when I noticed a piece of lint or something stuck just near the right edge. Couldn't get it off for the life of me. Sucks. Gonna order another one. Good thing these are only $2.
I got thr same screen protector and it is just as good as any high dollar one. Worth the $2
This thing is awesome! It really looks nice I am very impressed, for $2 its one of the best investments out there for your phone.
I did have distortion the the first day but it cleared up to be crystal clear. Ordering another for my g/f tonight.
Edit: Just wanted to say that this protector does not leave smudges or finger prints at all. Had a protector on my HD2 and I still had aton of smudges and finger prints even with the protector.

It took about 4 days for mine to arrive. Its coming from Utah so it shouldn't take that long.
Ordered it on a Sunday night and it came in the following Saturday.
They ship it in a regular envelope, so delivery times arent guaranteed.
Just wondering, from what part of the phone to what part does this cover? I mean like, from just above the buttons to the end of the black outline on the phone? or just strictly the parts you touch the screen?
Hey everyone, I made this post to ask around and see if anyone has tried out the ZAGG Invisible shield for the Mytouch Slide, and what do you all think about it.
I'm thinking of buying it but would like to get some feedback first.

I have it on my slide it has allready saved my screen my daughter dropped mine and it scratched the screen shield and it saved my screen. They have a lifetime warranty they are a little difficult to put on so if you are getting it at a store let them do the install and whatever you do make sure you leave your phone of for 12 to 24 hours. 1 is it helps and all the bubles realease and 2 they use a liquid spray on each piece when they install it.And you dont want anything wet when you turn it back on. I swear by mine. And I live in Utah where they are headquartered.I have an in so I get alot of free skins and stuff.
I wont use any protector that requires a spray or water to apply the protector. I'm waiting for the plastic static cling protectors to come out. I used them on my G1 all the time and they are simple to put on without any bubbles and plus the are pretty cheap. These new rubbery screen protectors feel weird, they say its some high tech military material or some garbage. I just want a simple plastic protector that sticks to the screen with no solution. There's a ton for the G1 I dont know why they havent released any for the slide yet.
I'm not too sure about Invisible Shield, but I recently installed a bodyguardz full body protector on my slide and so far I love it. The major advantage I see over invisible shield is that, for about the same price, bodyguardz gives you two sets of protectors in case you botch the first installation (which I did). Overall, after a few days after the second installation I only have a few small bubbles and I actually love the feel of it overall... since installing the protector, I have found it much more easier to type accurately in swype, but that may just be me. There is also no negative effect on the touch screen in any way if you were worried about that.

Thanks a lot! I actually never even thought to check T-Mobile and the last time I checked e-bay all I could find are those new ones that require that spray or water. I just bought these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...Category=20336&_trkparms=algo=LVI&its=I&otn=2 I'll let you guys know how they are. I can also tell you NOT to order these http://www.amazon.com/EZguardZ-T-Mo..._1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1278542660&sr=8-1 I bought them and they are trash, literally thats where they ended up in my trash lol.
Thanks for the info, and everyone's feedback, I went ahead and decided to get the ZAGG shield full body, try it out and see what happens, I tried the T-mobile ones and they just had too many scratches too quick, hopefully ZAGG won't let me down.

invisable shielde
whats up man. i just wanted to let you know about my personal expirences with invisible shields. i personally have had one on every htc phone ive ever owned (touch pro, touch pro II, HD2, and now the mytouch slide 3G) and i love pretty much everything about them. they seriously are nearly scratch proof and honestly, during a fall it will protect your phone for the most part. installation can be a pain in the a$$, but you just have to brave about it and use plenty of the spray. use it ilberally on the actual shield and your finger-tips and it will make it pretty easy to position it. on the back peice just go ahead and soak that thing cuz its hard to get it right the first time. luckily if you do mess up, these things come with a lifetime replacement warrenty. all you have to do is give them back the old shield and they'll hook you up with a brand new one . once you figure it out though you'll appreciate it a lot. it gives the phone a really nice feel and it keeps it really well protected. me personally, i like to pair a full body invisible shield with a regular t-mobile screen protector. the reasoning behind this is, one, that ive discovered that it is nearly impossible to get the screen portion of the invisible shield on without bubbles underneth it for some reason (possibly because of how slick the screen is compared to the body of the phone?). and two, a touch screen is meant to be glided around on. it should be nice and slick and feel extremely smooth tothe touch, not all rubbery and sticky when warm. and finally, because it just plain looks better, straight up. your not going to get the same clean look of the plastic protector as you are from an invisible shield. yes the standard protectors are easier to scratch, but thats why they come in three packs. so you can replace em when nessesary. i find it easiest to place the protector down on the screen and position it properly, then take a piece of scotch tape and tape the side. that way you can peel up the backing and lay it down properly with a credit card as to get it perfectly positioned and without bubbles. if you follow my instructions you should be able to install with ease . ive really liked every invisible shield ive had, and the only problem ive found with them is that after time the edges of the shield will get dirty because of the adhesive on the back slowly being pressed out over time. that and the edges sometimes come up. but thats why they come with a warrenty, so you can replace em all you want . i tend to replace mine every 4 to 6 months. in the end i found that its a worth it investment if your the kind of person that wants to protect your phone but doesnt want to add a bunch of bulk to the phone from a case. it really allows the beauty of the phone to come out while still being protected. anyways, i hope my review will help you with your installation and help anyone else reading with their choice on wheather or not to purchase an invisible shield. i really like mine, and i hope you like yours too. enjoy
I have had the invisible shield on my last 3 phones and it is clean, discrete and it does everything that it is suppose to. I personally pay the extra money to have the representative put it on for me and call it a day. You will not be disappoint in the product and the others are just plain cheap and inefficient.

Ghost Armour all the way
I ordered one, came in the mail, this was the first Zagg Invisible Shield that I had put on perfectly. I left it for 24 hours to sit and dry and now it's perfect!
I was just wondering around and found this: http://www.ghost-armor.com/HTC/717.html
i was actually surprised to see our devices were supported since we dont have otterbox or seidio.
has anyone tried this?
There are a couple references to the product if you search. I wish there was a kiosk in Houston. I would try one if it was installed by someone who has done it dozens of times. I doubt I could get it right on my own and good installation is key to these things looking good.

I have owned Ghost Armor on my old TP2 and my current Dinc.
As far as the back cover goes, I really don't see how much it really protects. Just basically lets you keep the same feel of your phone and look (clear protector) and protects from scratches.
The screen protector, I feel is one of the best available. If you install it correctly you barely know it's there.
As a test I took my Touch Pro 2 and rubbed the screen all over the cement sidewalk, the screen was still the same as when I bought it used. Also makes scratches on your screen disappear. The ghost armor seems to go back to its normal form and it was left almost brand new with faint scratches. I recommend it to anyone.
And, they offer a life time guarantee no matter what. Just pay shipping/install fee.
How do you guys like your Amaze? I'm looking to buy one and switch to t-mobile, as I'm on PagePlus and can get more for the same price.
And as for the price of the "Stick Plastic" It is fairly expensive $20 for the screen, but you can replace it as much as you want. I normally got a new one every 2-3 months just for the heck of it. It doesn't leave your screen with anything sticky either.

Worth the money all the way. When you go to sell the phone a lot of the time the main selling point is the screen. Back cases can always be replaced and cases cover up sides.

I was talking about Ghost Armor. They have kiosks too.
A little late on this one, but I would like to say I am happy with my Ghost Armor.
I was in SF and they have a kiosk at the Serramonte Mall. So I happen to be in town with my new Amaze and I first went looking for Zagg because I had great experience with them. But the 2 locations I called didn't have anything available in stock for the Amaze.
So I was walking the mall and saw Ghost Armor. 15 bux for the front screen protector and 5 bux to install. I figure I would let the guy put it on. He put it on and baked the phone for a little bit and it came out looking fantastic. It feels great and I would recommend them. They also say the material is forever warrantied. And as long as you have most of it left, you can bring it to a kiosk and pay 5 bux and they will install a new piece of armor. And I am going to assume that is pending availability of the product.

do they actually "bake" it? i dont like the sound of that lol
They put it in a type of air circulation box, not really baking it, but speeding up the process of evaporating the water they used to apply the protector.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
it does seem to somewhat "bake" it though. the box circulates air but it also produces a certain amount of warmth, kinda get iffy whenever I have a replacement screen protector applied.
that said, it works far better than zagg (which ive used for all of my previous devices) the only downside is that it produces small visible dents in the screen protector after time, none that inhibit the safety of the device but do take away from the aesthetic of the screen.

Bake was probably the wrong word... They do put it in some sort of box and the phone does come out warm. They do turn the phone off before applying the screen protector. The warmth of the phone from the treatment would be similar how warm a phone gets after some extensive usage.

So my 2 day old Note has a hairline scratch that is only visible with the screen off in the right light. I am told that if I get this screen protector it will more than likely hide the scratch, and obviously prevent new ones. I'm curious to hear if others have this and like it. I have never used a screen protector because I don't like the way they look and feel, but apparently this screen is very easily scratched, despite me only keeping it in my pocket by itself.

Have the Zagg Dry Invisi-Shield installed on mine, front and back protection, and both he dry and wet install shields leave little indented marks when you use the s-pen because they are soft. At first its barely noticeable but the little grooves build up over time. Just something to consider, depending on how much you use the s-pen.

I went to Best Buy and and exchanged the phone for a new one because of the scratch and bought the InvisibleShield. I'm not crazy about the Orange Peel look, but it's better than the scratched screen look.
i have the shield on mine as well........after having the rocket for 5 months and not having a case nor a screen protector i had to get one for the notes awsome screen.
and the S-pen is Great. i use it for texting and everything. the write to text is pretty accurate and fast when you get used to it. my only gripe is that with the Zagg shield the pen does not flow quite as smoothly so it hickups here and there when not applying just the right amount of pressure.
I actually wish that it had the physical home button like the Intl version. I saw some neat tips and tricks -such as disable touch screen -which would be great for movies, etc -especially with children...
I went with the Rearth Ringbo screen cover. Cant comment since I ordered it this AM.

I was 1 click away from ordering that. I ended up with the SGP because I didn't know which was better. I haven't done screen protector shopping in a while. Is the Rearth better than
SGP?
I just learned after buying the Invisible Shield that even though they offer a lifetime "free" replacement, it costs $4 for them to ship it to you and you have to pay to ship it back. In what world is that free?
I bought the invisible sheild today from bestbuy. Not really liking how it feels "tacky" compared to the slick glass. Something to keep in mind when considering purchasing it.

I bought the Zagg tonight, installed it and thought I had it on perfect! Was all proud of myself. Went to go turn the screen on and all these rainbow colors and weird looking dots all over between the screen and shield! I was so pissed. I think I sprayed too much of their liquid on. I should have just paid Best Buy to install. What a waste of money. $22 down the drain.
bought some screen protectors on Amazon to get here Thursday and then 6x off of eBay. I don't care if I have to replace one a month. I'm not spending $20 anymore on one screen protector.
Zagg has also started making an HD version of there screen protector, this one does not give you the orange peel look like the old ones. Right now i think it is only for the Iphone but give it some time they will probity start making them all like that.
I didn't see a thread about this in the accessories section here, so I figured it would be a good one since many people will be getting one, despite the Gorilla Glass supposedly being a good protector as-is.
In my experience, good screen protectors will accomplish one of two things, but never both:
1) Invisibility - you don't even notice it is there, and does not mar your screen quality whatsoever (a big perk when your new phone's biggest feature may be the screen)
2) Glare-resistant - you sacrifice some of your screen's brightness and jump-off-the-phone clarity and colors, yet you do get much less glare, improved visibility outside in the sun, and it tends to have a smoother feel when swiping across the screen.
The purpose in this thread was to allow people to share recommendations for screen protectors on both fronts. I, personally, want one that won't hinder my phone's screen quality (although my OG EVO has a glare-resistant one on it right now). Any recommendations on brand, type, deals, etc?
Also, I've noticed that many of them won't be available until June or so, which is frustrating since I want to have a protector on mine as I walk out of the store next Friday. Ideas? Do I just buy the cheapest thing possible until a great one is available? Risk going without one for a couple weeks?
Share your thoughts and plans here! One week to go!
XO Skins is already shipping them. They posted a few videos today reviewing the phone on their youtube channel. You can get one here.

I have been using them for a while on my Nexus. I am considering switching to the evo lte or the galaxy III. I am waiting for that to compare, but the review in my signature has a tun of comments feedback etc. It's the best one on the market imo. I would get the full body on these since the back of the evo lte looks pretty weak. These don't have orange peel like others and have a lifetime warranty. The best coupon floating around is sprintxo

Hmmm I usually get ghost armor but I might pick this up instead.
Just bought some screen protectors make sure you guys use the
discount code: sprintxo
30% off
i have had the same skinomi one on my epic for 2 years now..they are pretty thick and protect well as well have having a lifetime replacement (just pay shipping). however i may not spend the $7 to get one this time around because while it protects really well, you can definitely tell it's there. the glare isn't bad on it either. being 2 years old i am unsure if they changed the formula for making them though.
I always buy phantom skinz. They are great. You can't tell visibly that they are there. Not anti glare and they're not real rubbery feeling like Zagg and you get 2 for 1.
Usually have a coupon code for 15-30% off. Which usually makes them 2 for $7-9. Can't beat that.
*Edit: Coupon code is ComeBack30 for 30% off making the screen protector 6.96 for 2
On my original evoi had one of Sprints matte screen protectors which weren't too bad, but prefer a screen protector that does not sacrifice screen quality, I had used ZAGG on my HTC touch pro and is currently on my Prime. The feel of the screen is a bit rubbery at first, but once it breaks in it feels very comfortable and smooth. It does not sacrifice any quality and they offer protection for the back of the phone as well. Unfortunately, ZAGG did not have anything listed yet for the Evo LTE , I did email them and got this response:
Hello Aizawa,

I second this. Steinheil is the GOAT. Crystal Clear, doesn't diminish the screen, very durable.
They will be making them soon enough. I need to find something temp for the time being. Because I am a danger around things which aren't protected.
Can't stand the ones with liquid though. They always freak me out.
U guys need to get on sgp about their protctors then soon....

Eh, they 'll still make them. A lot of assessory places say they have no plans but they are waiting to see the demands.
I'd be more concerned if a case maker said that, since it takes more resources. Screen protectors is a matter of cutting the right size.

I know they will still make them but might not as soon as we'd like...
Case makers say the same thing btw, its a straight company line unless they are already into production with the item b/c only then will they be able to 100% confirm they are going to have one.
I know the overall outside dimensions b/w the EVOLTE are different than the OneX slightly but what about the screen?.....should OneX screen protectors not work on the EVOLTE? or is the dimension of the actual screen different too slightly...The MAIN difference is the OneX case on the inside on the screen has round edges where as the EVOLTE is squared off in the corners...
might be worth something trying there for those that want to...
I'm waiting for the Steinheil protectors as well. They're the best. Period.

I may be in the minority on this, but is a screen protector really necessary with these new gorilla glass screens??

I am wondering the same. Been running my OG EVO for about a year naked. Has a few minor scratches. If the new screen is more scratch proof I am not sure if a protector is necessary. But I would hate myself for scratching my new phone.
Just don't know what to do about this.

Gorilla glass won't stop dust or dirt from scratching it. This has been beaten to death in some other topics but the gist is that the key scratch tests etc don't scratch it because brass is softer than gorilla glass. Dirt and some dust is much harder so it will scratch. It's stronger than most glass, but not scratch proof. That's why people still use protectors, let them take the beating, if they get damaged, peel it off and slap another on there.
I got an extra screen protector left over from clarivue for the original evo. Will have to see how well it fits the evo lte, even if it doesn't cover up the screen entirely.

+1... Phantomskinz all the way... I have tried many and this is the only one I have found to feel like it isnt even there. I was a devout zagg user until I got these free with my carbon fiber and I wont use anything else now.
