[Q] int & ext sd card - wipe & flash new ROM - HTC Amaze 4G

Hello,
I currently have a rooted amaze running stock ROM. Looking flashing custom ROM and hopefully ICS soon. However, I am wondering about the best way to do this without losing info and data that is needed or I want on both my internal sd card and my external sd card.
I believe if I do all the wipes and factory resets and flash process, nothing on the external sd card is touched?
However, not sure about the internal sd card.
I have also not restored installed apps from Titanium back up before so I am also curiously how to ensure I can do this after installing a new ROM and don't want that data lost in the process.
Any information or instructions you can provide on what to do to protect the info, data, and apps that I should during this process would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much

I used mybackup pro to back up my apps, my apps' data, my pictures, contacts, phone settings, and phone data. Once you wipe and erase everything, and you flash a new ROM and kernel, just reinstall MBUP and restore your info. I think titanium does it too, I've just never liked the app's UI

+1 for MyBack Up...I use MyBackUp Root tho. Same app one is just free.

I'd like to ask since you have MBUP experience. When I did the wipe, root and flash and then re-installed MBUP, it wouldn't/couldn't see the previous back-ups even though I could navigate to them using Root Explorer. I just assumed it was because it was a new/different ROM so the back-ups wouldn't work. Is that not true? Did I simply set something up incorrectly? I ask because I'd like to try some other ROMs, even though I always came back to and primarily used Energy ROMs with my TP2, but the set-up after flashing a different Windows ROM was a pain. But if back-ups for one Android ROM should work for another Android ROM, that'd be great!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Once I reinstall the app and hit restore, it usually just works. Where is your backup located when you use root explorer? It should be on your external SD card I think. Did you do a NANdroid backup before you wiped and flashed? You might want to recover that and try again maybe...

I'm using RerWare MyBackupPro. It looks like the original back-ups were on the internal SD card (I can still see them using RootExplorer - all of them pre-root and flash). I don't remember re-configuring MBUP, but it now places the back-ups on the external sd card (so I must have).
I'm not familiar with NANdriod backup, but I'll look into it. You prefer this over something like MyBackupPro?

Before flashing ANYTHING, while in Recovery, go to backup and create a backup there. It's in case you mess anything up, you can go back to when your phone worked properly. Every dev puts this suggestion in their original post.
It's different than the app mybackup pro. I use the same one by rerware. That's used to backup apps and data while the nandroid backs up your system

Titanium Backup - Restoring apps with another phone

I went from HTC Desire to this Motorola Attic bad boy.
There are a few apps with data I want copied over, which I backed up on my Desire. I rooted my Atrix. But it doesn't see my backups.
Is it even possible to do this, or are my backups only compatible with the Desire, or what?

i brought my backups from my captivate over to my atrix. some of the apps didnt carry over the settings, but that wasnt a big deal. did you copy your titaniumbackup folder from the old phone to the new phone?
When you copy the backup files to the new phone, there is an option in titanium to reset the application...this will find the files and allow backup

Yep. You could also get the pro version that allows you dropbox backup.

Very confused. I am having the same problem. I got a new phone today (upgraded from G2 to G2x)
I inserted my old SD card, rooted my phone, installed TBUpro (latest from market,) went to backup/restore and there are no backups there. I tried restoring all apps and data anyway. It said it was successful. But nothing changed on my new phone. (Of course I rebooted and verified the SD card is being read.)
All of my backups are in the default folder of the SD card where TBUpro placed them (with the old phone.) I'm supposed to copy them somewhere else?
For now I've given up and am having App Brain reinstall all of my apps, and Google restore my personal info. I'd still love to have my system settings and whatnot restored by TBU though. WTF?

I brought most of my apps over from my MT3GS with TiBu. The only one I really had an issue with was Angry Birds, no matter how I restored it, it would force close. I'm thinking some kind of architecture difference.
Also watch what cross platform system settings you restore. I finally figured out restoring my old wireless ap info is what b0rked my wifi.
Hi... the phone needs to be rooted, but also needs sideloading enabled.

Yes, or change the backup location by pressing menu, preferences. Use detect to locate sdcard-ext this is the removable micro sd card.

This did it. You need to go inside Titanium Backup. hit MENU key -> Backup Folder location --> Hit the DETECT! button. Then choose the desired location (it will you all the backup locations available.)

[Q] About Nandroid backup

I want to backup my ROM before (finally!!) flashing CM9. But I'm a little short on space on my ext. SD card and I'm insterested about one thing. If it backups just the basic operating system, I have no problem with that... But if it backups OS together with all of the apps(from the market ofc), then I have a problem...
I hope I'll get an answer soon...
You should always have a full nandroid backup before flashing another rom. Things can and do go wrong. Saying that, you can do an advanced backup and just backup what you need. Alternatively you can use TB and just backup your apps.

It backs up everything including apps. If you just need the system data, you might just reflash the old ROM

I'd rather revive my old thread rather than starting a new one.
I just wanna know if NandBackup erases Int or Ext sd card contents? Usually I'd go the safest way possible by backing up to a blank sd card, but currently I dont have one.

Nand doesn't erase anything. It just backs up everything. I have restored about twice and its no problem.

Titanium Backup Help

Before I sent my phone off for repair I did a full backup of Apps and Data. Now my phone is back and I'm trying to restore but am unclear how to do this. In TB I don't see anywhere that allows me to choose to restore from where I backed up to. What am I missing?

I hope you still have the backups created by titanium backup with you... Because there is a very good probability that when u sent your phone for repair they formatted everything... If not
Open TB app, press the menu key and open batch option.
In the restore column there wud be an option to restore you apps.... If not then the backups have been deleted!!! You will have to manually install them again... Srry

TiB backs up to /mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup so you must have the SDCard you originally backed up to inserted or it won't know where to look.

From "Preferences", set your "Backup folder location" to the folder having your old backups. After that, go to "Backup/Restore" tab. Now, you can find all of those old backup entries. Either restore them individually or use "Batch" from menu.
That's it!
Perfect! That's exactly what I was looking for - thanx!

I'm not too sophisticated in all this stuff, not sure if/how to do this. I have a rooted Droid Razr Maxx, stock ROM (wanted to be able to tether without monthly fee). When I upgraded from my original Droid, I copied the sd and put the new one in the Razr. This sort of worked, but left the new 32gb card partitioned, with 8gb read as "sd card", the rear as "ext-sd card". The 8gb filled quickly, and I can't download much, even though I have a lot of space on the card. I have been backing up with Titanium Backup, hoping I can use it to fix this. I also purchased a Sandisk 64gb card, which I read (and it claims on the package) is comparable/formatted foe Android. Can I use the 64gb card, then put everything back with TB (and how)? Do I have to reformat the 32gb card instead, then get everything back on it with TB (and how)? Or do I just have to redownload apps, copy media to PC, then replace, without an easy route through TB? I'd appreciate any help, thanks.

Photos deleted after flashing stock ROM via Odin

Hi,
I'm new and though I've watched the noob video I hope I'm in the right place, if not please dont get angry ><.
2 days ago I've flashed into stock rom for my SG3 (GT-i9300) back from my RGUI v5 Build number: MIUI-2.8.3 IMM76D / Kernal version: 3.0.38-Siyah-s3-v1.3.9c
Ask me why? because I've had some issues trying to install official MIUI v4 from the international website and always I get error: "Status 7" with a dead android inside. (Again, Why ? because I as hoping it would make my SG3 even smoother... more responsive)
So I though perhaps flashing it from a stock rom might work, so I used Odin and everything went fine, again ofcourse I got the error and went back to CWM to restore the backup i've made before flashing anything, I dont really mind about the error right now, I've seen similar posts about it and I shall continue investigating it, What's more important is on the next phrase.
Today I found out that all my photos were deleted, after restoring my RGUI v5 rom 2 days ago ofcourse....
I'm not sure how could the situation get any better though I remember previously flashing rom's that the SD card never being touched and I guess I was wrong.
What I wanted to ask is, I just got more CWM backup files on my external SD, does anyone knows if CWM backup restores user data aswell or should I just give up ?
Helpfull tips of how to restore it could be usefull (Oh lord, please spare me I beg you, I'll pray more).
Thanks in advance.
I've flashed hundreds of times on S1, S2 and now S3 and never lost any data or photos that are on either the internal or external sd cards.
Not sure but could it be that you somehow hit format sd card in cwm by accident?

Have you searched your internal and external storage? Maybe they were only stored on a different location so that the stock Gallery cannot find them?
Storages are either completely wiped or not wiped - but you don't only loose one particular folder

I tried to install 3rd party Gallery program which scans my SD's for photos and it could nothing.... Its probably not there.
I think all is lost unless one of my backups contains them.

In a more optimistic view there are worse things, and although its quite hard to swollow all I've got left to do is say thanks to every one for trying...
Thanks.
Sorry, but this is a "Well Duh..." moment.... Flashing any stock rom through ODIN will always wipe the data partition on the internal sd card. You need to backup the internal stuff onto your PC. Only a stock firmware that has been modded will allow a non-wipe flash and you usually need to be rooted as it is no longer a stock rom.
You should be able to restore a nandroid backup of a stock rom too without wiping the internal sd card as this is only putting the system data back onto your phone...

Probably your backups are in the internal storage and Titanium is searching in its default storage in the microSD card (or the contrary).
Search in the Titanium Backup settings, there's one option which lets you find the right right path / search automatically for it in your device.

I believe your backups are actually external, but I'd bet you flashed a cm rom, correct? If so, the mounts are different unless you go into the setting under I believe its security (correct me if I'm wrong) and check the use external storage and reboot. If the rom you're using doesn't have this option, go thru preferences in titanium and search for the on both storage points.
I couldn't seem locate it.
