[Q] What causes "Status 7" error in ClockworkMod - HTC Rezound

I'll occasionally get an error in CWM when trying to flash a custom rom.
It comes up with "Status 7; Installation aborted"
Someone know a simple fix?
Thanks!

Usually it is caused by an install script error, which there is no "easy" fix for. You could pull a install script from a ROM that installs ans put it in the ROM that gets the error. This always worked for me when I had my Incredible 2.

Simple fix? Install Amon ra and use a real recovery.

It Seems like you are trying to flash an ext4 ROM from and ext3 version of CWR. Try upgrading to CWR 3.0.1 which handles both ext3 and ext4 ROMs.
This is the easiest procedure to solve your problems .I hope your problem will solved

Appreciate the help, luckily I haven't experienced this problem with the most recent roms I've been using.

I've really been interested in the difference between CWR and Amon Ra. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to flash Amon over ClockworkMod. From what I've read, ClockworkMod has more problems than Amon Ra, though I'm so accustomed to CWR.

Its really easy. Download the file for Amon Ra, place it in the same folder as ADB and Fastboot, rename it to recovery.img, place your phone in fastboot with the usb connected to the pc and type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
Boom. Done.

Wasn't expecting a tutorial
But I'm really unfamiliar with ADB, so you're going to have to dumb it down for me.
So first, get the recovery img for Amon Ra. Easy
Place it in the same folder as ADB. Are you talking about a file on my computer?
And also, would it be possible to install through fastboot by renaming the img. PH89IMG and updating just like that? I believe that's how I got CWR when it still was unavailable through Rom Manager.

Yes you can do it that way also. Just remember to delete the img file as soon as you can to avoid bootloops.

If you have s-off then you should either use rom manager or use fastboot
Most people on this thread use rom manager because its just so much easyer

He's not talking about just the CWR .img file I don't believe. It sounds like he wants a zip of CWR that he can flash via hboot like a radio which would install recovery. I'm not even completely sure that's possible.

It's not. Have to use fastboot. However, if you go to the link site, it has rom manager there as well, which will flash recovery for you...
If that's not good enough, then he's just being overly difficult.
Actually the recovery image was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks everyone

Hmm, actually it is possible (with engr hboot anyway). I just made one in about 2 minutes and tested and it seems to work fine. Flashed CWR from bootloader like a champ.
I'll put it up (if anyone happens to need it for whatever reason) when I get home.
Edit:
Eh, went ahead and uploaded it. Just put on sd, change name, and reboot to hboot like flashing a radio. You should then have ClockworkMod Recovery installed. If anyone feels like trying it, let me know how it goes.
This means one should be able to edit the custom upgrade firmware used in the original tutorial to include this and cut out a few post-rooting steps. It *should* give you CWR immediately after going through the tutorial without requiring RM. I haven't tested that part yet but the reasoning seems sound.
Edit2:
This is ClockworkMod Recovery 3.1.0.2 (latest for mecha at time of posting) btw.

Need help to get root

I got my Evo 3d off Craigslist this morning and i love it. Traded my Evo 4g plus cash for it and i couldnt be happier. I was very successful in rooting the 4g amd never had any problems that i can think of and im hoping the same goes for the 3d.
Anyways ive been reading and reading on how to root it, get s-off so i can install a recovery and them flash a rom and kernel. Ive managed to confuse myself because it seems that if you root it one way, you may not be able tp fash custom kernels and if you use another method to root it, your more than like to have all sorts of problems.
Basicall i need help and if someone could post a link to show me best method on how to root, s-off, install custom recovery, and install a rom on the 3d it would be greatly appreciated.
I have Sprint (cdma) Android 2.3.4. Software # 2.08.651.2 hboot 1.5, baseband 0.97.10.0808

I've tried setting up sdk all morning and can't get the cmd to recognize adbas an interal or external command. Not sure what exactly it is that in doing wrong.
I wanting to know if there'sa way to install my first custom recovery thru the bootloader in my phone without using my computer so I can flash the su.zip and get this thing rooted. Thanks

The twrp recovery has a method to flash that recovery without a computer by downloading it as a zip and naming it properly. See their site for detail.
I still recommend s-off since it is easier to flash Roms and the ics Roms tend to bootloop with s-on.

It looks like you renamed it to the wrong thing. If you downloaded TWRP 2.2.0 zip, it must be renamed PG86IMG.zip on the root of the sd card. Then when you update in bootloader, it should work.

Amon Ra 3.15 issues

Hey everybody, so I installed Amon Ra 3.15 on my Rezound running ICS 4.0.3 and I'm having issues with superuser. Whenever I restart my phone, superuser gets deleted. I guess a bigger problem is that when superuser was installed and I tried to use WiFi tether, it never worked. I installed su and superuser through Amon Ra, but I guess it didn't take. So now I have no superuser app on my phone and I'm not even sure if I'm rooted. I'm running just stock ICS 4.0.3 with Amon Ra 3.15. Can anybody tell me how to fix this issue or get "real" root access so I can run a tethering app please? Thank you!

That was the very first thing I did when I installed Amon Ra and it's never worked properly. Superuser app would delete itself after every restart and apps like WiFi tether never worked even when superuser was installed. In WiFi tether the settings were: Galaxy Nexus LTE, Netd, and enable route fixing.
Should I just try reinstalling Amon Ra? Will that even work?

I had similar issues when I updated to ICS firmware.....not sure why. So I used Hasoon's All in One Tool Kit to install it. Worked! So how I installed AmonRa was through Terminal on my Mac. I ran "./fastboot flash recovery recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm.img" from the computer. I didn't drop any files onto the root of the SD card. Is this not the proper way to install the AmonRa?
The "recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm.img" file is the only file I have related to AmonRa.
The All-In-One toolkit doesn't work for me b/c I use a Mac.
Can somebody please give me proper instructions on how to install AmonRa is the way I did it was incorrect? I'm brand new to Android, but I managed to get ICS on my Rezound and what I thought was the proper way to install AmonRa. ICS 4.0.3 is working fine, but I just want to get root access to use WiFi tether. That's the only thing I want to do. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Step-by-step directions would be SO helpful. THANKS!!!!
Wait I'm realizing your problem is not amon RA but SU. Are you s on or s off? Did you just upgrade firmware? Because that would make a difference in your root permanently sticking.
Edit: You might be losing root....as I'm not sure exactly what the makeup of your phone is. Try the tool kit and install amon ra and flash su in recovery.
Unfortunately if your recovery is not permanent you have to this again after updating rom, ruu, etc. Someone correct me if I'm wrong ..I've been s off since we got it so I might be off a bit. Again s off and s on makes a difference. Nor sure what you have.
Edit to he edit: I see you are using a Mac.....again are you s off or a s on? That amon ra file is not going to work for you.

That should have worked. You can always flash the new file in the earlier post. After, do like you did with SU...then flash this file here (in recovery):

Ctrl-S to download the thing as a zip file.
I believe it updates the binaries. It worked for me several times. You can download Su from the market, too.

Yeah sounds like you lost root.....since your s-on and you ruu, you have to regain root again. Have you tried flashing in recovery the file from Topgun's above link and post?
You just might have to just redo the root instructions (installing SU), NOT bootloader, through your MAC.....assuming that's how you initially unlocked and rooted. Again I had similar issues so I used the All in one tool kit, which you can't use on a MAC.
Sorry if I can't be of any other help.....but try using the MAC, if you haven't done so already. And then S-Off!

How do I flash in recovery? I know that sounds stupid but I'm still confused about terminology. Does flashing in recovery mean dropping the file on the root of the card and then going into hboot? OR is it putting the phone into hboot and then flashing the file from Terminal? If I do it through terminal what is the coding language? "Fastboot flash recovery"? I'm so confused. Thanks for all the help thus far. I think just a little more help and I can get it. Thanks for being patient everybody.

I would just flash a custom rom like conrom v6. It will fix your super user issues. Flash in recovery means you boot into your recovery(amon ra) and flash the zip(it can be on external or phone)

Flashing in recovery....your file is on the SD Card...not a ph98img.zip file...you flash roms in recovery, for example. But how? Get into recovery (amon ra) select navigate through the flash zip options..(can't remember exact verbiage) select file and you're on!
Flashing in hboot/bootloader...your file is on the SD Card and is name ph98img.zip. The bootloader scans for any files named, thus, and if so, asks if you want to run it or boot (that's why you delete or rename ph98img files when done with them).
Using Fastboot...boot into the bootloader and select fastboot..then you can enter commands from your computer. Fastboot flash [partition] [filename] . A quick google search turns up the commands you might need. At least, that what I do. Hopefully this helps some!
Did you ever flash that file I mentioned up above...flash 'in recovery'

Last question, but do I have to flash this zip every time I restart my phone? I'm trying to figure out why the root didn't stick in the first place and what I need to do to prevent losing root. I don't use any custom ROM's, just use the stock ICS that was in 3.14.605.11. Not upgrading to .12 until I know it can be rooted.
Also, I am trying to find a ROM that gets rid of the VZW bloatware, but leaves as much stock ICS as possible. Looking through the Developer section at the list of ROM's there, they don't have many pictures of what the ROM looks like on the phone. So I'm hesitant to go through them all to see which is closest to stock ICS. If you guys know of any I'd appreciate those recommendations also. Sorry for being such a noob about all this stuff, but a man has to start somewhere.

[Q] Which Recovery????

For future reference, this question has been asked plenty times before. Just so you know if you have trouble flashing the zip in hboot you will need to extract the recovery.img from that zip and flash it via fastboot.

Which in my opinion is easier, I perxonally encourage everyone to learn how to fastboot commands to flash thing. It'll save you a lot of time and questions later.. oh yea, and +1 amonRa.. haven't had a problem yet..
sent from my s-off reZound rockin' neWts xXx 5.1.1 Rom on global ICS firmware
Try all three and find the one you like best. All pretty much do the exact same. You can use can use an outdated ROM Manager with MY versions of CWM. Read my OP for more details if interested.
When doing a backup in Amon Ra, which options do I choose? The ones already selected? Or should I backup anything else extra that isn't already selected?

Thank you kind sir!

[Q] I've successfully S-OFF'd my dna with moonshine! now what should I do?

What should I proceed to next? Im assuming I would need to install a recovery now? (clockwork, etc. If so, do you know of any guides, not sure if I would need to do something different because I've used moonshine instead of another method) I would just like to make sure that I am doing the correct thing to avoid the risk of bricking/damaging the phone, as the I've only done this once before with my thunderbolt a while back. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
Download recovery of choice then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then make a backup and then go to town.

after you get your recovery installed (cwm or twrp both are great) then flash some ROM's and Kernels and see whats good...
i just got S-OFF with RevOne and whats my next steps
I would flash a custom splash screen and an aosp based rom (I like PAC, personally). But to do the splash screen I think you need the ENG hboot.
