I just want to be sure I can restore different ROMs from Nandroid backups without wiping or resetting? Also, do you rename your backups to identify the rom, etc? Thanks.
No need to wipe. And I've renamed mine and just added _cm9 to end of file name or whatever rom it was at the time

Just a side note on renaming your backups. Make sure you don't put any spaces in the new name. It caused problems for some people.

Has anyone tried that boot manager app on the photon? I know its not officially supported but I believe some Motorola phones are. We might get lucky.

Forgive me, I know this has been discussed by search turned up a lot of fruitless stuff to wade through.
Real simple: Is there a way to backup my phone 100% before trying a new ROM?
I'm not so much worried about contacts, etc... as I sync with Exchange at work. More about saving all customizations, apps, etc.... when I want to try a new ROM release. (I know I"ll have to re-setup all that on the new release... just want to be protected if I decide to go back to the previous ROM).
Thanks!!!
That's what a nand backup does
Backup - nand
Ahhhh..... always wondered about that, but my quick google-search came up empty.
So I don't need something like the app "ROM Manager", though it sounds like it'll make life easier.

Nope NAND is all you need.
One tip thought after to do a NAND backup and after to get a file manager installed rename the the backup to something you'll recognize. The way it work though the original name is a time stamp yyyyddmm-tttt. If that makes any sense. Just remember there can't be any spaces in the new name.

They do take up a lot of space. I move em to my harddrive on my pc and keep the one I use most on the SD.

All I do is nand the ROMs that work well and like. For example my goto everything works rom is Evil Eris 3.0. And and of course a keep ROMs that I know work backed up just in case. Also before changing ROMs do a wipe then restore. I find that sometimes there's a few apps that get left when switching.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
That's too funny lol, Eris lightning is my goto Rom I keep on the phone also good Rom huh?

I'd like to run Eris lightening but because of all the red theming i have issues. I'm working with conap to change all the pngs to offer different theming. My issue is I'm red/ green color blind. Lol

If you rename your nandroid don't put any spaces. Just numbers/letters. And don't use rom manager.
Can nand restore apps back to the sd card? I am running the kaos rom...
I kinda have the same question... is there an easy way to backup all my apps (even the droid store ones) than restore them when installing a new rom?
btw what's the best app manager? I'm using linda atm

No spaces in the name huh?? That's probably why the half dozen nandroids I made and renamed didn't work...learn something new every day.

Download Titanium from the market. It allows you to backup all of your apps, data within those apps, and system data (settings, etc.). You can run a batch to backup everything and even schedule it to do backups at certain dates and times.
When you flash the new rom, go back to the market and install Titanium again. Do a batch restore and it'll install your apps and all like you had it.
Also if you use ADW or Launcher Pro you can back up your home screens and restore them so they'll be set up just like before. Note - you'll have to manually add widgets back.

I did come across titanium backup while doing searches and it's good to have some reassurance. oh and should I do a COMPLETE batch in the settings part or mostly do the ones in green?
This queston must have been asked 1,000,000 times but there's no simple way of updating roms from v29 to v30 to ect.?
I do complete batches.

I am getting like half of my apps Force Closing any time I try and run them. I performed a full wipe when I installed it... Could it have something to do with my Ti Backup restore?
Most likely ... What was the last back up you performed? If it was from a GB ROM that will definitely cause issues.
Typically I just restore data from certain USER apps only, never any system apps. I have been OK thus far doing it this way.

Last backup I preformed was a full backup of stock... This is my first rom... I know cherry has been popped... kind of a big deal.
I have had the same experience, even when moving between froyo Roms. Seemed to happen mostly with Amazon "free app of the day" apps i downloaded.
I just posted a process for backups and restores in the thread right before this one that has worked well for me. ( Link below)

How do I backup my rooted phone?

Did you try to fix permissions? Good place to start.
sent from a sweet paper weight.
When i had this problem, fixing permissions from Rom manager didn't help. Maybe I should have done it from recovery? My problems seemed to be apps from the Amazon market.

My phone keeps giving me a contacts storage FC. Tried restoring my back up and clearing all data but no luck. Could somebody please pull there apk and post it here for me to try. Don't really want to flash the rom again if i don't have too.

Did you delete anything from the rom? From what I understand about the blur contact storage is that all of those little social apps need to be there regardless if you are actually using them or not. If you deleted anything then reflashing the rom is the easiest way. If you didn't delete anything then you might need to switch roms or keep trying factory resets
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I had this happen to me when I had the ICS version of Google+ installed on my phone. I uninstalled it and went back to the market version and all is well.
as unlikely as it seems, it was the blur_yahoo.apk from system/app (and its .odex too, I think) for me...just put them back in system/app
its the google + ics apk had that happen to me too uninstalled it and viola!!

Yea not sure exactly what it was but I just reflashed jokers rom and just restrored data through advanced restore and so it makes for a painless fix.

Ok, before I get flamed, I know there's a batch option in TB to restore all apps you have a backup of in one shot. However, I have backups of a bunch of apps I don't necessarily want installed right now, but I don't want deleted completely either. I'm running Newt's OneXXX RLS 1, and he just updated it to 2.1. I just got all my apps that I want installed on this, and don't feel like doing them one-by-one again if I update. My question is this: Is there a way to make a zip or something of just the apps I currently have installed on this ROM, and then to run it on the install of 2.1 so that only those apps will be installed? BTW, yes, I'm using Pro.
I just deselect the ones I don't want installed in batch.

I've been trying to figure out something like this too. Thought there might be a way to use labels to create a set of specific apps, haven't had time to mess around with it.

I use that all the time to get rid of stuff I don't want.
I can't find my sdcard which has all of my backups...I have a few others kicking around that I can use but what do i do if I want to go back to gb or back to stock ics... getting tired of all the bugs and freeze ups with my current hybrid rom.

Downloads are available on the forum for the stock GB and the latest leaks. I don't see what your issue is. Just reflash.
All your apps are at the play store.
Learn to back up SMS and phone logs. Use titanium back up and push everything to Dropbox then you will be able to flash fearlessly.
Just to expand on what ranger said...thx ranger [email protected]: get the paid ver of Tibu...Titanium Backup you will not be sorry best $$ spent, plus google the youtube vid on how to use the tibu...best time spent...
it is a very awesome tool...I never leave home with out...cuz it is on my phone...LOL, kdding..

No ones freaking out buddy...all I'm saying is that I had a very nice collection of backups including a backup of my note stock out of the box. Just about every rom out there stresses to make a backup and not to use tbu especially for data, which is why I don't use it. Obviously I know I can just make a backup of my current rom and flash any rom I want but I wasn't sure or didn't know stock gb was or is available just in case I need to get my phone warrentied for any reason. And when I flash a new rom I never restore apps and such, the only thing I restore are my sms ...I like a fresh phone.

Thanks for the replies guys but I wasn't concerned with apps and data, all I basically wanted to know was if stock gb was available in case I ever need to return my phone (I made a backup of gb on my sdcard which I lost) I don't care about call logs and I do backup and restore my SMS. I tend not to use tbu since my roms suggest not to use it especially to restore data.

I think you misunderstand. TB is one of the top apps for android and everyone who is rooted should get familiar with it. But you need to use it wisely. Using TB incorrectly can cause ForceCloses with both User and System apps. When using it on the Note and especially going from a gingerbread to ICS ROM it is suggested to restore user apps only but not the associated data.
